To make a really long story short, I needed to wipe the drive in this machine to get it back up and running for my work. I got it home, and was able to use CMD to clean the drive. Unfortunately, I'm very inexperienced with clearing drives this way and I made the mistake of shutting everything down before running create partition primary or any other steps other than 'clean'. Now the Windows install doesn't show the drive. I took it apart, removed the m.2, put it in my machine, and used AOMEI Partition Assistant to get the drive set up again. That seemed to have worked so I put it all back together; it still doesn't recognize the drive in either a Windows 10 or Windows 11 install (Windows 11 was what came preinstalled). I'm kind of at a loss here. I set up a portable copy of Windows on a USB in hopes I can install Windows to the real boot drive (the NVMe SSD) from within the portable Windows install (because the drive does show properly IN Windows, just not in the BIOS or rather not in whatever bootable USB installer I've tried using) but I had to go to work before I could continue down that road. I know the USB installer I made (with rufus) works because I just built my wife a computer and upgraded/wiped mine; so the problem must have something to do with the All-In-One and I just don't have all the information to do this right. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hey everyone; so I made an oopsie. I was trying to fix my oculus rift s and a website said to change this and so I chose the closest thing that the person on the site said to choose (I chose the one in the right box second from the top) and then my computer needed to restart because of it and now my USB ports (all of them) won’t work. If someone knows what’s wrong, please help! I’ve thought of a PS/2 adapter and have someone coming to give me one but I want to know if there’s another way. also, the USB ports work on post. thanks

Server 2012R2. I just accidentally deleted all my DNS service information. Yeah, oops. This server is the only one in the domain so it's the primary domain controller, dhcp, dns and everything else, how do i get all the dns records back. I've spent the past 3 hours googling and nothing worked, i figured i'd just reinstall AD and it would do it, which is correct but i will loose all my AD configs as it's the only domain controller, this would be fine i didn't have a butt ton of group policies. Anyone know what to do? Or am i screwed..

When you connect a drive to the internet, you may want to make sure that any important information is not exposed and maybe encrypt it... In a case of 'Oops, maybe we should have done a bit more security checking', a security researcher looking for open devices on the internet found an unencrypted file stored on a backup drive connected to a New York University (NYU) server for a joint code-breaking project between IBM, NYU and the Dept. of Defense. https://www.engadget.com/2017/05/11/doj-code-breaking-project-found-unencrypted-on-the-internet/ So yeah, while this project would not really be able to cause a lot of harm given that it appears outdated, maybe if you are working on an encryption cracking project, encrypt your work and don't store it on a device facing the internet... while attempting to fix a stubborn bug that causes display one to be allocated to a "ghost screen" which does not exist and forces me to use display 2 for my actual screen, I disabled my GPU from the device manager assuming that my mobo's onboard graphics adaptor would just kind of work. as you might imagine it did not... how do I fix this, can I boot into safe mode and fix it that way? if so; how?

Hey yall, Just wanted to say sorry if I was ever rude to you in the past or today. I normally come on this site every single day. If I was ever rude to you I very much apologize and I hope I did not offend you. I said something as a joke to another member but I guess I came off as a asshole, apologies for the language as it wasn't funny in the end. But I also apologize to that individual. Have a good day! In a moment of carelessness, Google accidentally took down a large part of the Internet in Japan temporarily and caused a widespread slowing of internet traffic. According to an Engadget article, Google had set the wrong network information which made it appear as if large chunks of IP Addresses were to be routed through Google instead of the Japanese ISPs they belonged to. This resulted in the traffic getting redirected to nowhere and caused large delays in service even after the problem was fixed within 8 minutes of occurring. https://www.engadget.com/2017/08/28/google-accidentally-broke-internet-japan/ Seems like a major Oops moment that you would hope they had some kind of checks for, but I guess it's good to know about this potential issue now and maybe find a solution for it... EDIT: Just got around to the Bleeping Computers article, which has a bit more of the technical details on what happened, if not why, who or how... Basically, Google 'hijacked' about 135,000 network prefixes from around the world, which redirected all of that traffic to Google. One interesting bit is that the article mentions that this error led to inadvertently broadcasting these prefixes to Verizon who then passed this on down the network... https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/technology/google-error-causes-widespread-internet-outage-in-japan/

Is there any reason a 140mm rad (35mm depth) would perform worse than a 120mm rad - both with a 120mm fan? Would it matter that parts of the rad don't get "proper airflow"? I'm thinking about replacing the fan in my PSU to work duly work as a PSU and RAD fan - and only a 120mm will fit. I'm really restricted on space - Silverstone's SD03-S would fit, but I'd expect much better performance from a 140x35mm rad and replacement PSU fan than a 120x22mm rad with a 15mm slim.

Ever since I installed GeForce Experience 3 (the redesigned one) This error has been popping up when I go to launch it. I have tried reinstalling it, this works until I close it, then when I go to launch it again it comes up with the same error. Another solution I found was to use DDU to uninstall my drivers and then reinstall them. Once again this worked but only for a certain amount of time (nearly a week) then it broke again. I have been googling this problem and tried many of the solutions some of which suggested to go into the NVidia control panel to mess around with settings however every time GeForce experience stops working so does the NVidia Control Panel it doesn't just stop working though, it completely disappears from my computer, it can't be accessed by right clicking the desktop, searching it in the search bar or accessing it through the control panel. But as soon as GeForce experience starts working (when I reinstall it or my drivers) the Nvidia Control panel does as well. This issue has been bugging me for ages now and I would really like a fix for it any help would be greatly appreciated. *edit* Forgot to add system specs CPU: Intel i5 4460 GPU: Gtx 970 Gigabyte Windforce 3x RAM: 8gb (2x4gb) Kingston DDR3 HDD: 1tb blue PSU Silverstone Strider Essentials 700w

So I just built this pc! I thought I did the necessary research but I didn't I forgot one thing! That there is a difference between 8th gen and 7 gen CPU's! so I got a 7th generation CPU and put it on an 8th/9th generation motherboard! and in my last post, the guy said that one of them will most likely be fired! so now I have to identify which one it is! so the mother still has all the light working on it and also was still turning the fans on when I pressed power and everything! But it just shuts off after like 1 -2 seconds running! SO my question is if I put an 8700 in the motherboard will that tell me if the boards fucked or will that just fry the new CPU as well! and what should I do to fix this situation! Thank you for your help in Advance!! Oh and just to be clear it was an I7 7700 into an Asus Rog Strix z390-e motherboard! I know

Over the time I have built my PC... I basically ordered whatever I could possibly manage to acquire without going into debt... Now I am looking at buying a new GPU, specifically a Radeon VII, because AMD for the win I guess ?... and if I want to upgrade my GPU I HAVE TO upgrade my monitor, and my PSU just to make use of almost ANY newer/better GPU... not that my PSU couldn't handle it, but I would have to remove most of my (internal) storage drives, add-in cards, and whatnot just to make sure I have enough wattage to make the most use of better hardware; as for my monitor... lets just say I'll need a monitor with AT LEAST HDMI, preferably freesync, and a higher refresh rate than 60hz. So in order to get a newer monitor (which I have already chosen), PSU (also chosen), and GPU, it comes out to around $1,230 (I think this is with certain deals/discounts on newegg)... I currently have less than $450 in my checking account... Eff-Me...? There's nothing like doing something without planning, thought, or brains... Now I get to fix all my mistakes, buying everything new, and not cheaping out on ANYTHING like the twat I was/ am. Personal advice for new builders: Planning a build for a "new" PC should ALWAYS include some planning and thought about your parts... even if GPU mining, DRAM shortages/ literally ANYTHING else causes prices to skyrocket on what you want... Also, just don't cheap out too much, it might come back to bite you later when you want to upgrade...

It would appear that the Google Pixel 3 has hit a bit of a snag. We all know that the Pixel 3 and 3XL have the best shooter camera.....but we also know that the Pixel is far from the best video camera out there. The phone can't even do 4k@60fps (and some phones that can have a time limit *cough* Samsung *cough*), but this new potential issue has to do with audio quality. Modern smartphones like the iPhone Xs and certain Android smartphones offer stereo recording now for video and offer great sound quality. However, as discovered by Travis McP, the Google Pixel 3 would seem to offer the exact opposite experience..... According to Travis and Front Page Tech via ftp's community page It would appear that the Pixel 3 suffers from tiny mic and hissing syndrome. In an audio recording in a silent room an electrical hiss is clearly audible, creating a loud noise floor . For a phone that is advertised at being great at photography you would think Google would make sure that their Flagship smartphone would have better audio than a $200 budget phone, and that isn't an exaggeration either btw, the Pixels mic quality is BAD. It is unknown if this is a software issue and can be quickly patched by Google thanks to the Pixels great update times, or if this is a hardware issue caused by poor electrical isolation in the Pixel 3s' design. Either way, screwing something like this up is kinda sad, come on Google. If this ends up being a hardware issue, imo the Pixel 3 cannot be justified over something like the iPhone Xs or S9 even which both offer a slightly worse photo experience but can at least record usable video. It is unconfirmed if the Pixel 3 XL also is also experiencing this issue. Sources: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5ue8R2A-oM ftp YouTube community page

Hello All, Been awhile since I've posted(or even really been on here), and I come to you looking for advice. I have made the mistake of selling all of my PC's aside from my laptop, which is not good enough to do what I am looking for, and am now wanting another computer. Reason: JUST to play rust, I want a computer that can play rust and I probably wont be doing anything else on it. Price: As cheap as possible, used parts okay, OS not an issue. I am legit hoping we can muster something together for 200-250. I currently have a power supply, that is pretty much it. Just looking for a tower though, I can just run it on my TV. Any advice? Recommendations? Thanks!

Well, here’s another one of those “Oops” moments. If you’re not familiar, Android (and other Linux-based operating systems) have so-called ‘Superuser’ access, which grants system-level access. Many enthusiasts desire root access as it allows for system-level modifications, although malicious software can also force itself access to it, compromising security and also possibly breaking the device, hence the reason new Android phones have dm-verity enabled. OnePlus hasn’t exactly gotten a good eye for security, after it was found that the company was sending personal data back to its servers without prior user consent. Well, here’s another one, and yes, as mentioned earlier, it’s one of those “Oops” moments. Source: https://www.xda-developers.com/oneplus-root-access-backdoor/ This means that with some savvy coding, you can in theory, gain root access to a OnePlus without a bootloader unlock. However, having 2 security blunder twice isn’t exactly confidence inspiring.

So I have contracted a little bit of malware on my computer. I was trying to fix it before because I had adware, the adware had gotten rid of all of my default browsers and installed thebrowser. I would like to clean the computer of everything but Windows 10. I have had to install Windows 4 times before this because of various problems with parts and blunders but nothing as bad as this. Help?

So I recently realized that I had signed up for a free subscription of Audible a while back and totally forgot I had done so. Well I now have six credits to go towards any books of my choosing. I am looking for any suggestion people would recommend. If you are going to recommend me story based books I tend to lean towards Science fiction and dark fantasy as genres. With some of my favorite/ cherished authors being Garth Nix, Brent weeks, Neil Gaiman, Glen Cook, Frank Herbert, and HP Lovecraft.

So I was sort of playing around with net user in command prompt and somehow locked myself out of my main local account on my PC. I made an account with the command: net user Blank 73. I'm currently on the 'Blank' account and have no administrative access whatsoever and cannot allow administrative actions because somehow my initial account's password changed...? Help. Please.

Hey guys here's a guide on how to set someone's computer on fire, and fry 3 of their USB components. For a little bit of back story, my friend asked me to build him a computer. His old case was too small, so I swapped it with my sister's case. No big deal, I've been putting computers together on my own for a few years now and switching everything over to one case will be no problem. TL;DR, READ. THE. FUCKING. MANUAL. My sister plugged in two of her USB devices; a headset which stopped working instantly, and a webcam which shorted when plugged in, causing the USB port to melt and cause a small match-size fire that burned out when the surge protection kicked in. Here are some pictures to document what happened. Veteran eyes, tell me if you see what is wrong here. I assumed since the audio cable was right next to the line of 3 pins, that the 4pin connector should go inside of it. Sometimes cables aren't used (like when plugging in a 3pin fan into a 4pin connector) Here's a motherboard document for reference. This is where I fucked up. The ground was plugged into the 5v+ pin, and the 5v+ slot was plugged into the ground pin, causing a short. Here are a few pictures of the damage done. I owe my sister a new headset, a new webcam, and a new whatever got ruined by getting plugged into that port.

So, the title says what happens. I am wondering if this will have damaged it? I am guessing if it's not conductive it won't damage it (I can't find wether it is conductive). I am talking about how I may have gotten like a TINY amount through a gap in tape that was covering it. The parts where it may have gotten into are boxed: http://screencloud.net/v/kf6O (No, the rest of the black spots were not exposed)
