I have a local sata SSD hosting my OneDrive (with stuff like Documents, Desktop... etc also synced here) and as storage for downloads, including torrents through qBittorrent. It is a Fanxiang S101 2TB. Not a T1 manufacturer by any means, but by most reports they are reliable enough. I've had it for a year so far without other issues, and have done full block scanning to verify true capacity and read/write speeds are as advertised. Since 2 weeks ago it has started acting up. My system started stuttering frequently, including in games where I'm otherwise maintaining smooth 200 FPS before. I think I've tracked it down to this SSD. This SSD is not storing my games, nor any other software/apps, but it might be interfering with Windows itself since Desktop etc are on it. It frequently jumps to 100% disk usage, every few milliseconds. Sometimes it ramps back down straight away, other times it stays up for minutes. Even at 100% usage, the read/write speed in task manager are in the 2-digit KB/s range. It also seems to be throttling my qBittorrent downloads - popular linux ISOs with hundreds of seeders are now stuck in 5-50 KiB/s, where I used to easily do 50 MiB/s. I've done a full chkdsk f x r, took 4 hours, absolutely no bad sectors were discovered. It is at about 1 TB usage (out of 2 TB capacity). Would anyone have any ideas on how to further troubleshoot? Could the problem be originating elsewhere that's cascading into this SSD activity? Does this behaviour seem like malware?

after installing microsoft365 (non-cracked/paid version btw) onedrive files' thumbnails start to lag while trying to load or simply didn't load at all, this after a couple of days with no issues. reinstalling onedrive seem to fix that. i just wasn't sure where to share this, what i mean is that it's pretty silly that installing a paid version of office365 messes up with onedrive, unless this is a me thing.

Good Morning/Afternoon everyone, Slight/Big issue at Work, We Rolled out OneDrive backup and the Finance Managers computer has gone a bit silly and looking for a solution So, In the "This PC" you got Desktop, Documents, and Pictures, these are all the things we're creating a backup for through One Drive, the issue is, sometime in the past without us realizing the Finance Manager's "This PC" Documents Folder has turned into his Shared Network P: Drive, so OneDrive when it backed up his " Documents " actually backed up the Shared P: Drive and Took a bunch of documents for storage only on OneDrive, so now no one else in the company can access them, I've tried forcing it to store a Physical Copy of it on his Device hoping it would place them back in the same way it took them, thinking the Documents folder ( that is actually the P: Drive ) and restore it back to normal, but now they're all Solid Green ticked, and still not there >.> If you can please help

Hi all. I built my new PC almost 2 months ago. I installed Windows 11 in the normal "No thanks, I don't want any upsells" way that I always do. No Office products, nothing. Except I must have fallen for a misleading button somewhere along the way, because I'm realizing that my User folder is totally screwed up. All the normal Desktop/Documents/Downloads etc links in File Explorer go to C:\Users\myname\OneDrive\[library name] I don't use OneDrive, I don't want to use it, and if it actually backed up all the files on my desktop I would be paying an ungodly amount of money for storage. How do I change this so everything is directly under my C:\Users\myname directory? I keep writing code in the OneDrive desktop folder and then getting confused why it isn't working, only to realize that my terminal is on the normal directory and my workspace opened under OneDrive

I sometimes have the problem that after the startup of my system both my personal and university OneDrive say that they are not logged in. My system then works for about one minute normally and then starts to look up completely. I still can move my cursor but don't get any responses when I click something. Normally a little later I then get a notification from Windows that a process stopped working and if I want to quit this process. But quitting this does not help. If I restart the same thing happens again. Until now I always had to do a system repair with my BIOS and bring my system to a previous state. But it always happens again after some time, does anyone know whats the cause of this behavior and how I can fix it? I have recently installed Windows 11 Pro and after getting things set up, I deleted OneDrive completely off my computer. I then proceeded to start changing the locations of the Desktop, Videos, Pictures and Documents folders back to the default directory and I managed to change the Desktop and Videos folders (As seen in the image below): But when I went to move my Pictures and Documents folder (By using the "Restore Default" button in the location tab of the folder properties), I got this error: (For context, there is no other Documents or Pictures folder within my "User" folder.) I have already tried reinstalling OneDrive and unlinking it from the computer but that didn't seem to do anything. Is there anything that can be done about this? My Windows version: Windows 11 Pro 22H2 22621.1555

Hello all, for some context, I am my works sole IT guy. I have maintained and deployed Microsoft 365 for us coming up on 3 years ago. We're a small business, only 8 people. We mostly use the SharePoint/OneDrive features of Microsoft 365, being able to do file collaboration in the field is extremely important, so OneDrive or other cloud sync services are literally the only way we can do our inspections. While most of our production data is duplicated on other services (we have two programs we use to do surveys/run reports) the original data (floor plans, photo, excel matrices, and field notes) are all stored in our various SharePoint libraries. Not only are inspection related documents stored in SharePoint/OneDrive, sensitive company info is as well. Info such as client contracts, payroll info, etc. All in all, we have approximately 1TB of data that has been generated since I deployed M365. While the chances of data loss or data breach are low (we use 2FA, only myself and 1 other coworker have admin access to anything, and OneDrive has great protections against mass deletion and ransomware) I would still like to host a backup of some sort. Unfortunately, OneDrive does not really have any backup tools built in. The only real means is to download copies of your whole libraries and archive them, the problem with that is the storage requirements quickly balloon out of control and the process is entirely manual. I recently discovered Backblaze and have considered using it as our primary backup. To do this, I would build/buy a low power desktop (probably a Mac mini), connect it to a drive enclosure or use its local storage and sync all document libraries locally. Then Backblaze would backup up that whole computer and the drive with all the SharePoint/OneDrive data. In the event of a ransomware attack, even though the local copies would eventually be encrypted as the changes trickled in, I could wipe any affected systems and restore 100% of our data to prior to the attack. We would pay for the basically free forever version history feature of Backblaze to meet any possible data retention policies I may have to comply with that I don't know about. This method would also allow us to access our data even in the unlikely event that OneDrive is not available for any reason or if accounts are somehow compromised and we get locked out. What are your thoughts on my approach here?

Hello all, I want to backup a laptop I have with an obscure program installed on it. Reinstalling said program requires a call to a database specialist which I want to avoid. Normally you could just to a system image to a network location/external drive, but because I use SharePoint and OneDrive, restoring from a system image will overwrite all the current cloud data with its brand new out of date data! So unless there is a way to exclude folders from a system image, the alternative is File History which will not backup installed Apps, and since files are in SharePoint/OneDrive this method does not help me either. On macOS, TimeMachine can fully restore user settings, apps, and data onto a clean system and you have the ability to add/exclude drives and folders from backups at will. I simply exclude my OneDrive folders from my Mac backups, but my Windows machine is running with no backups because I will lose data with the built in backup tools in Windows. This is a huge limitation of the Windows operating system that actively risks customer data. -
Hey, so a bit of back story; it's 4am currently and since I couldn't sleep I decided to finish off some school work, after doing all the work on Word I went to go save it using my college login and signing into one drive; there was an option which gets automatically checked saying "Allow my orginization to manage my device", I was pretty tired so I clicked on "No sign into this app only" without unchecking the "Allow orginization to manage my device", I looked into my settings > Accounts > Access school or work, and no accounts showed up which made me think that It didn't actually allow them, but that actually made me more paranoid as I was sure I accidently kept that box checked, so I'm kind of worried that they've got some access to my personal computer now. I signed out and in again to my PC and logged out of word, when trying to relog in; it once again asks if I want my orginization to manage my device; so does this mean I'm in the clear?

I use Rclone to mount my OneDrive with all my Windows data in my Ubuntu partition, which works perfectly. I decided to symlink my Documents, Music and Pictures folders to their respective folders in OneDrive for easier access of the data. However, I ran into problems where all the contents of these folders ended up getting dumped into my home folder, and therefore getting deleted from OneDrive. I managed to un-link the folders and sort out the mess, but I want to know: Why did this happen? Is there any way to accomplish this without disastrous results? -
Hi guys, I'm needing a bit of advice for a solution to continuously sync files from an unraid server to my PC's as well as other family members. Essentially OneDrive but it syncs to my server I'm looking at the reselio sync (formerly bittorrent sync) to do it, but happy to look at others. Thanks!

Is there any sort of software that would allow you to connect to OneDrive and allow you to stream video files that are stored on it without actually having to download the entire file? -

I got a reply from Microsoft OneDrive support: -- [Windows 10] Hi all, For years, I have made my (D:) drive the location of my OneDrive folder because my (C:) drive is a costlier NVME SSD and the contents of my OneDrive wouldn’t benefit meaningfully from the additional speed of it. More recently, I become aware of OneDrive’s “backup” feature which allows the contents of your Desktop, Documents folder, etc. (all of which are located on (C:) ) to be synchronized to OneDrive even though those folders exist outside of the OneDrive folder. That sounded like something I could benefit from, so I enabled it. However, now, when I open up my OneDrive folder on (D:), there is a copy of my Desktop & Documents folder…which actually makes perfect sense in terms of “why this is happening from a technical perspective.” Practically speaking, I think it’s easy to see why I don’t need/want the contents of my Desktop & Documents folder on (C:) to also have a copy taking up space on (D:) of the same computer. So what I’d like to know is if there is a way for the OneDrive app to not download a local copy of my Desktop & Documents folder? When I navigate to those folders on (D:) using Windows Explorer, right click, “Free up space” under the OneDrive section of the menu, it will remove the local copy of the file on both (D:) as well as (C:). What I would like is for there to always be a local copy of the file on (C:) but not have it also exist locally within my OneDrive folder on (D:). Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks! -
Hello! I would like to hide my OneDrive - Personal Icon in the taskbar, while leaving my OneDrive - Business icon. Unfortunately, the taskbar settings only provides the option to hide OneDrive - Personal, which hides both icons. Does anyone have a registry edit that could fix this? Thank you! -
Hello together, Brief history Since early November 2020, my Microsoft account (OneDrive, license keys, OneNote, etc.) has been suspended for no specific reason. I do not feel bad and MS does not help me. I have already contacted support 19 times (via phone (1€ per call) and chat). There they said each time that there is only one department that can unlock my account again - the compliance team. The support department itself has no possibility to view or change the account. To contact the Compliance Team, there is exactly one (!) form. I have filled out this form several times. Here I only got the answer that my account is no longer available; however, this is not possible, since I still have an active Office license (shared, I do not have access) until the end of May and my e-mail is still assigned. I even wrote to the data protection officer of MS and requested my data. Here I also only got the answer that this is not possible (but here in Germany the DSGVO is valid...). Otherwise, I have called the very unfriendly headquarters of MS Germany several times. Microsoft actively prevents other communication channels. Question #1 Are there already similar cases here? How would you approach the issue? Are there any users here who work at MS who could tell me more? Question #2 As a follow-up, I looked up how the various tech giants with online storage respond to lockouts: I found hardly any case where the company responded (Apple seems fine, but is not an option for me). Even for Google Drive, they say they won't help in such a case. My idea: free and redundant storage is not possible anywhere. So I want to continue to have my data with the big tech giants. The idea: I basically want to have my own Nextcloud instance. However, the data should not be on my server, but directly and encrypted on OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, etc. Perhaps this can still be described as a special RAID configuration - just not with hard drives, but with cloud providers. As from the title: Synology hyper backup to OneDrive combined pool of 6 accounts (using cBackup www.cbackup.com), 1 TB each of my Microsoft 365 family account. I’ve been searching left and right for ways to combine and put to good use my huge (and mostly unused) Microsoft 365 6TB OneDrive pool and I just discovered this cBackup service to combine for free various cloud storage solutions into one single drive pool. From what I immagine, I’d have to do the hyper backup to some PC or Raspbery Pi hard drive and then upload/sync the whole thing using cBackup but how would you guys do it, or would it be doable at all? I don’t have a Synology NAS, I’m preparing for a cheap offsite backup solution when I’d be able to afford one. Thanks.

I'm having an issue with OneDrive where it's telling me I'm out of storage space and need to pay for more storage, but won't let me delete or stop syncing the files that are eating said storage space. Apparently, most Battlefield games store save data and some game data in the user's Documents folder in Windows. Battlefield 2042, for some reason, saves shader files there too. The "Battlefield 2042" folder in Documents is almost a gig of DX12 shader data. Buried in OneDrive settings, there's a GUI to uncheck specific folders from syncing. However, if you try to uncheck a folder that has pending uploads, you get an error telling you to try again after the uploads have completed. This is, of course, impossible if the drive is full and is not accepting new uploads. I went into OneDrive and deleted the Battlefield 2042 folder from my drive, which put me well under the storage limit... at which point OneDrive immediately began backing up the folder again because there was free space and the pending uploads resumed. If you pause the upload, it prevents you from unchecking the folder again, or from uploading any other files you actually want to back up! This has created an infinite loop that I can't find a way out of. My drive is full because of unwanted files, but I can't tell it to stop syncing the unwanted files because the drive is full. So I delete the files, but they come back, because OneDrive wasn't told to stop syncing them, but I can't stop syncing them because the drive is full, and on and on forever. Has anyone encountered a similar issue with OneDrive? Have you found a solution other than paying for additional storage or deleting files you actually want?

Hello all, I manage Office 365 for a small consulting company. We are currently using about 1.5TB of data, mostly photos, word docks, and spreadsheets all stored in various SharePoint Document Libraries. SharePoint estimates we will consume our current 3TB plan in 6 months at the current rate of data usage. We are able to offload data to local storage as old projects wrap up and buisness years conclude, so our OneDrive space is fine as long as we offload data eventually. While OneDrive/SharePoint offer many tools for recovering data and allegedly have good backup systems, that does not help us if OneDrive goes down or we can't access it for whatever reason. While the risk of data loss is low, I'd still like to have a local backup of all our data so I'm looking for the best way to go about doing that. Currently, there is no method (that I am aware of) of incrementally backing up OneDrive/SharePoint data. All that can be done is to manually download a whole library and copy it. So at this moment, every backup is going to consume 1.5TB of disk space. That gives us 8 backups at whatever frequency we determine on a single 12TB drive, which costs ~$300. Keep in mind, some data we must retain for about 5 years, but we would like to retain all data for as long as possible. My current plan is to put together an inexpensive desktop with enough HDD storage to store all our SharePoint Libraries locally, then copy that data to a NAS where it will sit. What NAS I should order/build is up in the air. As are a lot of things like: How often should we make a backup? Every month? Twice a month? How many bays is enough? A NAS gets pretty expensive real quick and so do drives. Does the NAS need to be in RAID since we're backing up an already pretty reliable service? RAID seems like it would complicate decommissioning drives when we still want to store the data on those drives. When do LTO tape drives start to make sense? Boss won't be happy about the bill for a project like this, but as the company grows in the future this becomes serious and I'd like to have that security. I realize this is kinda intense, but any input would be great!

Im trying to sync unity projects, image libraries, documents, etc across multiple devices and make them available online for sharing etc, but I think I need a better solution. My cache file is over 2GB just from syncing once. It's not even trying anymore. OneDrive has said it's been processing 144 changes for the last 3+ hours. Ive tried paring down on file count, but I'm nowhere near the recommended < 300000. Are there alternatives to OneDrive for syncing large libraries with 2M+ objects and preferably more than 1TB?

I'm at a bit of a loss with this and wondered if anyone might have some suggestions for a workflow. There's Google Photos, Amazon Photos and OneDrive. I have a NAS full of photos and videos and want to back them up on these platforms. I also want to be able to back up the photos I take with my phone in real time (incase the phone gets trashed before I can offload them). Enabling this will create duplicates on all of these platforms that then show up in the timeline view. Am I missing something, is there a better workflow?

A long time ago I disabled and uninstalled OneDrive from Windows 10. Recently I started using it again but no matter what I do I can't get the OneDrive link icon in the File Explorer. I did everything mentioned here. If I click OneDrive icon in the tray and then click "Open folder", this is what I get (see attached file). Notice in the right panel, instead of OneDrive link icon the active selection is on "Desktop" even though the opened folder is OneDrive as you can see in the path bar on the top. To recap, OneDrive is properly installed on my computer, it works, there's a folder in "C:\Users\....\OneDrive" but no matter what I do I can't get the shortcut link in the File Explorer where it was by default. Any ideas?

Is it possible to show/list a ftp folder in Onedrive without synchronizing the content? I own a Synology NAS and I want to access those files as a folder/shortcut in Onedrive (without synchronizing the files to Onedrive) using a Flow or other ways. -
I need something that can help me sync some folders in microsoft one drive to a folder on my PC. Because I have java code on one drive that I modify between my gaming PC and my laptop and I cant compile it unless its on my PC. All it needs to do is automatically copy the files from one drive into a folder so I can compile it whenever I need to. I tried these -Shortcuts to onedrive (Didn't compile it correctly) -Windows Sync Center (Only to figure out that it only works on windows 10 pro :P) Anyone got an idea of just an easy simple way of doing such a thing?

I am now using google photos to store all my pics but I want to put it on onedrive but my internet is bad it took weeks to upload any wany to transfer between them without using my internet(copy not move) ?
