Well hello there, I've got a story about my PC. First off, I built this several years ago, back in February 16, 2017, but I wasn't on the forum back then. Since then I've added and upgraded a few things, but nothing too drastic. I'm putting it on hold because money, but I do plan on adding / upgrading more in the future. Anyway, story time. I used to use laptops and whatever generic family PC my parents had. I don't remember all the other computers I used, but I'll list off a few I can remember. Some generic Dell pc my dad got, ran windows 98, xp, vista and 7 through out the years, but now doesn't work at all anymore. Some laptops I remember using was a Lenovo Thinkpad I believe, and a Republic of Gamers laptop my dad got me in high school. That Republic of Gamers laptop I used through out high school and several years after until Q1 of 2017. At some point it just kind of got worse and worse over the course of the week, and so I had to buy my desktop PC parts that week. Luckily I was already planning on getting parts, I was just holding off. Here's the current spec of the PC, they're mostly the same from when I built the PC. Pics! Possible Upgrades / Additions Well thanks for reading this, if you read anything. You can follow the post to know when I do updates, if you like. Got any suggestions / helpful info / constructive criticism (instead of just "well that's just a dumb excuse for [...]"), then I'd love to hear what you've got to say.

Hey guys I got this account today and I'm new here so let me know if it is wrong to post this here. But I'm making a new gaming PC that is a little ridiculous and probably too pricey but whatever I'm going to do it. It's basically a copy of Linus' build from one of his newer videos see here: But I changed a couple things namely the motherboard and I want to know A: if this will work? B: what I could change? C: have I screwed anything up. D: Will my motherboard support wireless connection? My router is in a different room and my dog likes chewing Ethernet cables. E: Has anyone built something similar, yet? I am completely new to the PC scene, I've never built one and I've been on console my whole life. So I wanted something that will last me a while with the room and ease to improve. Your opinions will be gladly appreciated and I'm desperate for advice because I'm pretty certain I have no clue what to do. By the way I %100 percent know or think I've gone overboard, but that was my goal as I wanted this to last a long time. Thankyou so much for taking the time to reply and look at this if you do, any advice is much appreciated!! Terribly sorry about giving you the wrong link guys, I'm new here, but thanks for notifying me. Here is the correct link, I think: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/nhL3m8

hi everyone im going to build a custom pc this summer. i learnt most of my knowledge about computer on youtube in the past 2 years. it's aways been my dream to build a custom pc and this year i finally saved enough money for my dream pc. but still, i don't really have enough knowledge to really choose the parts for the build my self. so i really need your help for that. i really want my pc to be in a razer-green theme but in the same time i want most of the part in rgb caz im not sure if i would want to change the color theme in the future. my budget is about 6500usd including a pc and 3 monitors. i dont think this budget can afford a custom liquid cooling system so im not really thinking about that. but i really want my pc with an all-in-one liquid cpu cooler, led fans, led light strips and some custom cables to add more personality. this is the list of the build i want but im not sure if everything in this list fits. so i really need everybody's help. CASE: Nzxt h440 razer edition Motherboard: ASUS ROG Maximus IX Hero CPU: Intel i7 7700k CPU COOLER: NZXT Kraken X61 RAM: Corsair vengeance rgb 3000mhz GPU: asus strix 1080 ti x2 PSU: Corsair AX1200i SSD: Samsung 850 evo ssd 1tb HDD: WD 4TB HDD BLACK MONITOR: Acer XB271HU / ASUS ROG SWIFT PG27AQ PC FANS: Corsair HD120 RGB LED x3 Btw, im going to buy some custom cables from cablemod, what kind of cables do i need? also, should i change to a m.2 ssd? or is there anything i need to add in this build? i'm still planning this build and i really want to build it successfully. Please feel free to change or add any part for this build or even change everything except the pc case. Thank you for everyone who helps on the build!

Hey guys please check out my build, it's basically the same as Linus' new $2000 build, except prices are in AUD and I changed a few things like the motherboard, ssd and hard drive to suit my needs. I just want a second opinion from you guys to make sure it all works and change things if needed. And then I can go ahead and make it already! I am making a new gaming PC with the budget of $2000AUD and I would like help to make a build of that budget. Note that the shipping cost is around $200 extra so the actual price is of the build I posted is around $2200 so I need to lower the price a bit and the problem is that I also want AiO Liquid Cooling, the SP and AF series fans and if possible CableMod cables and in Australia the price goes up a bit with shipping. #FirstWorldProblems My Current Build: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($335.00 @ Umart) CPU Cooler: Silverstone TD02-LITE 92.5 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($109.00 @ Scorptec) Motherboard: Asus Z170-AR ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($228.00 @ Centre Com) Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory ($93.00 @ IJK) Storage: Intel 535 Series 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($109.00 @ CPL Online) Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($69.00 @ CPL Online) Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB Video Card ($965.00 @ IJK) Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro M ATX Mid Tower Case ($109.00 @ PCCaseGear) Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA G2 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($129.00) Total: $2146.00 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2016-04-21 23:50 AEST+1000 EDIT: I also have cleaner spreadsheet of my computer build including shipping prices and links to where to buy them. I was inspired to do a dual Xeon build when Linus hinted his own $150 build on WAN Show 11/20 and on his Instagram(links below.) So anyways, I had another post in CPUs, Motherboard, and Memory since it fit there, but then quickly escalated... So now, I am building a test bench to fit up to an E-ATX board just solely to fit this server board, just because I can. I am going to post the specs I have at this point. Specs: CPUs: Dual Xeon E5640 @2.66GHz Turbo to 2.9GHz Motherboard: Foxconn 02010HE00-600-G Memory: Hynix 16GB 4x4GB PC3-10060R CL9 ECC @1333MHz Cooling: Two LGA1366 stock heatsinks All other components I have on hand. My power supply I have right now is a PC Power and Cooling Silencer MK II 750 watt. I spent most of yesterday trying to find parts for this build. I used the picture of Linus's build to base this off of. I figured that if he was going on a $150 budget, it was going to be an older socket. I knew that LGA775 was too old, so I decided to go with LGA1366. I originally wanted to use two Xeon w5590s, but I didn't have enough power on my first motherboard choice. I decided to go with some 80 watt CPUs and a more decent motherboard. The motherboard is about $60, and the CPUs come bundled together for $35. These two together should score higher than an i5-4690k in Passmark. The memory is about $40. You may be able to tell, nothing I am getting is new. Well, there is one connector, but that doesn't count. The motherboard I am using has two 8 pin power connectors, but these processors will only be using around 160 watts under load, unlike the others using up to 260 watts. Not much to say about the memory, except I do want to use ECC. I have found some 6-32 inserts for the standoffs that will be used in the test bench. I was surprised to see the stock heatsinks to be so much, but then again. If anyone else has any input or advice for me, feel free to let me know. This is going to be a fun project. I will be updating with pictures when this build starts, and it is a definite go. I just need to order the parts and get the bench ready. It will start in December sometime. Ok, so I have dared to enter the realm of budget pc builds. This is my first budget list, and from the price point, it seems good. here is the link. So, for those of you who don't trust amazon, here is the parts list: - Intel Pentium G3258 - Zalman T5 Micro ATX case - ASRock ATX DDR3 1600 LGA 1150 B85M-DGS Motherboard - 16GB Kingston Tech ValueRAM (2x 8GB) @ 1333Mhz - EVGA 500 watt 80+ Bronze non-modular PSU All of that adds up to about $270 US Dollars ($360 Canadian, 255 Euros, 18 Pounds) without shipping, since I have prime. NOTE: I currently have an Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti FTW That I will stick in there. Also, I will have it running Ubuntu, so no cost for windows AND a lot of steam games are supported! So, if you have any recommendations, please let me know.

OK, so I recently learned about AMDs APUs and they seem amazing. And they are cheap for what they are! Enough of the fanboying. Here is the build. It is currently on-hold as I scrape up funding, and this is most likely gonna be a permanent pc. The total (without shipping) is $366.28 (242.39 Pounds, 336.55 Euros). Here is the parts list. If you don't trust that, here is the other version: - WD Green 1TB HDD @ 7200 RPM - CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO CPU Cooler - Rosewill Dual Fan FBM-01 Micro ATX case - EVGA 430W 80+ - AMD A10 7850K APU, 4 cores @ 3.7Ghz / 4Ghz Turbo w/ 4MB Cache AND Radeon R7 Graphics built in (720Mhz) TDP of 95W - 8GB Kit of Kingston HyperX FURY (2x 4GB) @ 1866Mhz - Gigabyte AMD FM2+ A68H Motherboard (GA-F2A68HM-H) Actually, it will be a bit more than $366.28 because that was BEFORE I decided to use a 2x 4GB kit of HyperX Fury. I wanted 2 so I could go dual channel. And, yes I like the Rosewill FBM-01 case. It just looks so sleek ans stuff. Also, the APU is like my CPU on steroids. It is the 4 core version of my i3 530 pretty much. Any suggestions appreciated. ps. It will run Ubuntu to cut down on OS costs.

Hey all, So I started this project last year and it's been on hold since - the idea was to use some scraps of leather and old cpus to do something, and that something ended up being a headphone stand. It went pretty well, but was never completed, the main issue was that i found no good ways of attaching it to the side of a desk, as originally intended. Which is my main reason for posting, does anyone have any idea/suggestions, any previous experience with mounting and such? I know there are quite a few flaws, and revision i'd make, but it was a spur of the moment thing. Any ideas are welcome though. It pains me to see it just sitting there. Here's a picture of it as of being nearly finished (minus the pins of course, I have no pictures of it without pins). It's a little big and i dont know know to re-size (yes, yes skrub and all) And a link if you're interested in more of the build's steps. (Don't expect good quality photos ) Thanks for reading, - Nup.

Hi guys, Before I start I’d like to say I’ve been following LTT on youtube (along with TechQuicky and Channel SuperFun for a couple years now and I love how informative and how great the content is. My doner case for this project is a CiT Vantage (Blue Edition) Original Case: Stripped Down: This is the case I used for my old PC, whose guts will be going back into the case after this is all done to be turned into a media PC. The Hardware in nothing to rant and rave about; i5 2400, generic m-ATX motherboard, 1TB HDD, 450W PSU, 8GB 1333MHz RAM This project is mainly for fun and “because I can” but also to give me a little, more specialised, experience using the tools before I started my university degree in September. Initially all I wanted to do was to make a window in the side panel and make fan holes in the top for a dual radiator. Rough shape of the window: As you can see from this picture the new window will be the same shape as the old plastic shroud on the side pannel which covered the pre-existing fans. I always thought the shroud was ugly, so its about time it goes. Rough position of the new fans: I wanted to put these fans on the top pannel of the case, but unfortunately the case currently has a top-mounted power supply. Because of this, I’m going to be flipping the rear pannel and motherboard tray (giving me an inverted motherboard). To do this I’m going to have to drill out most of the rivets in the case and fabricate a piece of metal to secure the motherboard tray after it has been flippe (probably out of the metal I cut out of the side-pannel). The red rings indicate the rivets which need drilling: (Sorry about the picture quiality so far, at this point my new camera hadn't arrived, so I was using my phone camera) Starting masking off for the new window: Tracing around the old shroud for the shape of the new window: The First Cut: Half Way There: BREAK THROUGH!!! After Filing the edges and scuffing the side panel to start painting: Paint Plan: Matt Black with white stripes (where the masking tape it). White First: Did 3 coats of white before I put the masking tape back on to start the black Drilling out the rivets: Bottom: Back panel off: Two to go before the mobo tray is free: Aaaannnnddddd they’re out: Any tips of getting these suckers off? Test Fitting: Time to start riveting: Having to drill a couple new holes to secure things to the rest of the case after flipping the mobo and rear panel: Test fitting with the plain side panel: Bother are a little tight, but they fit! After the paint had dried on the side panel there was a bit of overspray where I hadn’t applied the tape securely enough (oops!) So time to do some touch ups, good thing I still have my paints from when I used to collect Warhammer: Now its time to do the window: I've gone with having a completely clear window Measuring up the window and drawing in the cut lines: Masking up the holes to drill in the side panel to secure the window. I decided to rivet in the window because, mainly, I think it looks cool: Holes Drilled: Time to cut the acrylic: Test hole and rivet, make sure I can actualy rivent the acrylic without it cracking: Now to drill into the actual window: And the final window riveted into place: Top Fan Holes: For the top 240mm mount, I started by punching the guides into the pannel I wanted to drill: Then I drilled some 3mm holes as a pilot hole, before I move onto the 5mm holes for the fan screws and the hole saw: Hole saw time: aaannnnddddd my drill isn’t powerful enough to get through the metal with the 120mm hole saw… …so I had to borrow my step dad while I send my drill back and get the beefier model. My step dad’s drill requires a cord, so inside I go Once inside I drilled the holes for the 240mm fan grill’s securing rivets: Now to finish drilling the fan holes: Drilling the holes took longer than I thought, but its all drilled out now and time to clean up the edges Quickly make it into one larger, cleaner looking hole: sing the cutting bit on my dremel left the edges a bit rough, so I changes to a sanding bit to smooth it all down and make the singilar edge “flow” and get rid of any leftover metal shards. Adapting the fans: The fans which were behind the original plastic shroud had been wired to this ugly green PCB. So I decided to get rid of it completely (along with the switch) So I had to get my souldering kit out for the first time in a long while Because its been a while, the solders weren’t as clean as I had hoped Testing the connections: Using a 9V battery connector I salvaged out of an old RC toy which brok, and they work! My connections are solid and both fans are working great Covering the connections: To prevent shorting out on the case, and eachother, I wrapped the connections with electrical tape. The wires are going to be run behind the modo tray so they’ll hardly be seen, but I’m planning on eventually sleeving the wires anyway – as well as the wires on the front panel connectors. Rivited on the grill and installed the Fans: As said above, I’ve got plans to sleeve all the ugly coloured wires. I’ve also got a plan to make a PSU shroud to, again, make things look cleaner and pull things together. However, this is how the case is going to stay for now, I’ve got an absolutely hectic time ahead of me. But I’ll be back, this isn’t the end of this project of mine. Please guys, any constructive critisism, tip and suggestions are more than welcome. Thanks for tuning in

Ok so a few days ago I asked the community for help on building my first gaming PC. I would like to get more complete builds. Again this is the case I would like to use: http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Carbide-SPEC-01-Gaming-CC-9011050-WW/dp/B00I6BJATW/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1445196721&sr=1-1&keywords=CORSAIR+CASE Now I would like to run my games at 1080p with 60fps at max settings. The games I play aren't to demanding. Examples are League of Legends and World of Warcraft. I would definitely love to play WoW on ultra with a consistent 60fps+. I prefer a CPU by Intel and plan to use the stock heatsink. I do not want to overclock. Also my plan was to use a GTX 970, but if my demands aren't possible with a GTX 970 could anyone recommend a better GPU for around the same price or one that is slightly more expensive? My original budget was $1500, but I've decided to cut it at $2000 max. For storage I prefer 16gb of RAM and a 1TB Hard Drive. Also a 250gb SSD that's good quality. Also if anyone can recommend a good monitor I would be extremely grateful(this doesn't count towards the budget).

I would like to build a gaming PC. I've been doing a lot of research on how to build a gaming PC. Let me tell you guys what I am looking for. I want to use this case: http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Carbide-SPEC-01-Gaming-CC-9011050-WW/dp/B00I6BJATW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1445081572&sr=8-1&keywords=gaming+case I'd prefer a CPU by Intel and would like to use just the stock heatsink. Also I want to use a GTX 970 graphics card. I don't plan to do any high end gaming. I just want to play League of Legends, World of Warcraft, and a few other games at 1080p with 60fps+ at max settings. If anyone knows a better graphics card for around the same price, that'd be great. As for the memory and ram I want to use a 1TB hard drive and 16gb of ram, so if anyone could recommend me on what to get that'd be super helpful. PS: Price range at $1500 max. If anyone can help me out or has any other questions to ask me I'll answer as best as I can, thanks.

I know I've been posting a bunch of things with different prices, but I'm just curious, what y'all think. PC Part Picker Link : http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ppYCxr Thanks!

Digital gate to the fantasy world - Arduino LED and PC control!
WildCAt posted a topic in Build Logs
Digital gate to the fantasy world - casual, but ambitious. Hi all! ^^ Finally, there is my build log. I have been saving money and choosing components for a very long time and, finally, here it is! ^^ Feel free to comment, suggest or ask anything! ^^ See latest comments for more actual info! Build purposes: I am interested literally in everything: playing games, making music, video and audio montage and mixing, photo editing, drawing and animating things, making games, programming and something else, that will come to my mind. Until this build my main system was a laptop with i5-3210m, 6GB RAM, 640m. Soo it was really uncomfortable or even impossible to do some things. Because of all listed interests I need pretty fast and universal PC which I will be able to upgrade later, because I will stick to this PC for a very long time. There were no size or silence restrictions for me. I am focused on maximum performance and quality. And also I do care about aesthetics, so I think I will be into modding, but not now, later. Specs: MOBO: ASUS MAXIMUS VIII RANGER Z170 CPU: Intel Core i5-6500 GPU: MSI Radeon R9 390 (@1200 MHz) CS: Cooler Master Hyper TX3 EVO RAM: Crucial Ballistix Tactical 2x4GB 2666MHz CL16 HDD: Seagate ST1000VX000 1TB PSU: SilverStone Strider Series ST60F-PB Monitor: BenQ GW2270 Case: NZXT Phantom 240 Black BTW, temps on GPU: 43C on idle with 30% fans (completely silent). 70C on full load.
