My PC: Acer Predator Helios 300 (2019) i5 9300h 2.40GHz 1660ti 6gb GDDR6 32GB RAM dual channel 2666MHz (upgraded from a single 16gb stick) So on my PC this one game (Need For Speed Most Wanted 2005) is just not launching, I have tried compatibility settings, running as admin, running in 640x480 and all the other normal stuff like restarting my PC, reinstalling my game (from multiple different sources, I even had a friend upload one copy to Google Drive even that didnt work) and after all the bullshit I put the exact same build which was not working on a pen drive and used it on an older PC with Windows 10 on it and it worked just fine one that. Then I downloaded Need For Speed Carbon 2006 which came out a year later and that worked completely fine! Im convinced this game is fucking haunted if you can help me out please suggest in the comments below

controllerxbox Can You Play Far Cry 1 With a Series X Controller?
Just_Landon posted a topic in PC Gaming
Today I wanted to play Far Cry 1 with a controller. So I looked up if I could online, and as It turns out you can! So I tried to with my new Xbox Series X controller. But for some reason it won't work. My assumption is that Far Cry 1 doesn't recognize the newer controller drivers, but I'm unsure. Does Windows treat all xbox controllers different, or is my game not detecting it for another reason?- 3 replies

Do older games, those made in the 90s & the early 2000s hate multi-gpu setups? Here are some of the games: GTA3 GTA Vice City Fair Strike Enemy Engaged 2 Will still be trying the others... Although they installed fine, upon running them, I get a BSOD. I am unable to get the cause or even the stop code because, there are none. (I use Bluescreen View to view the BSOD logs) It just bluescreens for a second then reboots. Here are my specs: AMD Phenom II 960T 3.0GHz 8GB RAM Asus GTX760 x2 ROG MARS Powercolor 6870 x2 Coolermaster SilentPro Hybrid 1300W Windows 7 Pro x64 Just to note, I installed the game on a 2.0TB Firecuda formatted to HFS+ and I am using Paragon's HFS+ for Windows. Other games just run fine. Lock On Modern Air Combat Far Cry 2 Il-2 1946 War Front Turning Point Act of War High Treason Crash Bandicoot Nsane Trilogy Soviet Monsters: Ekranoplan

My experience while dual-booting both Windows 7 and Windows 10 is that more games run on Windows 7, and games run better on Windows 7. 1. Windows 10 has DirectX 12, but Windows 7 has Vulkan, which does the same thing as DirectX 12. And Vulkan seems to be the favourite between the two by current developers, due to its cross-platform abilities and open-source nature. The only games that you'll miss out on by not having Windows 10 and DirectX12 are Microsoft exclusive games (as Microsoft wants to force people to Windows 10 by withholding their games from other markets). And there ends the only semi / potential benefit of gaming on Windows 10 that I'm aware of. 2. If you play old games, then Windows 7 natively had better compatibility for them. Some games I haven't even been able to get to run in Windows 10. I can't immediately think of the list off the top of my head, but the MechWarrior 4 series is one of the recent ones, and there have been others, too. Granted, MechWarrior 4 Mercenaries still takes some tweaking in Windows 7 to get it running, but at least I was able to get it running. 3. Another point is that, though many older games can be played in Windows 7 and 10 with some tweaking, they might take more tweaking to get working in Windows 10 than in Windows 7. There are some compatibility features that are just present in Windows 7 which are either turned off by default in Windows 10, or are missing and need to be added manually. This can included absent system DLL files, or something like .NET Framework 3.5 for legacy game support which needs to be manually enabled in Windows 10. 4. While some people mention that FPS between Windows 7 and Windows 10 should be mostly similar (some more in one OS, and some more in the other), there are some definite and even serious caveats to that: - Due to Windows 10's ironically-titled * Game Mode which is turned on by default, Windows 10 seems to lose some FPS in a lot of situations unless that Game Mode is disabled. - If you play Ubisoft games, they get a chunk more FPS in Windows 7 than they do in Windows 10. Sure, Ubisoft is just bad at PC coding, or whatever else you want to explain it as, but the fact is, Ubisoft games get a chunk more FPS in Windows 7 than they do in Windows 10. 5. Also, Windows 10 interrupts gaming sessions with background downloading, updates, system resets, and the general diminished stability that Windows 10 has compared to Windows 7. 6. Lastly, there are mounds more community guides, fixes, and tweaks designed for older games running in Windows 7 than there are for older games running in Windows 10. In my view, without a doubt, Windows 7 is more stable, more reliable, and more compatible with a wider range of games than Windows 10 is. And Windows 7 is at least on-par with Windows 10 in the area of FPS. If you just want a rock-solid gaming rig that can do just about everything while not interrupting or obstructing your experiences, then I think that Windows 7 is the way to go, as I think that Windows 10 is a compromised experience both in and out of games. Update: The below video is not representative of newer (maybe 1803 onwards?) versions of Windows 10, which generally show parity in performance between having Game Mode on or off. * LTT made a video comparing Windows 10 running games in Game Mode to running games with Game Mode turned off:

Just for fun. List something funny that no one has probably ever heard of. I'll start with "down under dan". It's kind of terrible, the accents are super stereotypical, it starts out with a horrible button mashing sequence, but once you get past all that.. it's actually really fun. Sort of like an old sierra game like space quest but with some RPG elements.

So the game was kinda like your on a game show but it was deathmatch. I can only remember two characters a devil the host technically and a orange blob. You had skewers (needles) that you could pin or send a enemy on or off the map a dodge ball which would bounce off the enemy and tou could catch it and throw it again and again I think their was a eggs gun. Some maps were space stations or in a lava pit a bunch more. It's been a long time so things are hazy you could run around picking up coins that would set off your special attack for a short time. The game was hilarious and just a fun fight. I am almost positive it was either xbox or 360 possible it was on ps2. If this sounds anything like something you may know please post like I've said I've been looking for ever and cant find it. Thank you!

Hi, me and my friends wanted to play WoW and we were having a lot of fun. Just going back into memories and everything made the time we spent really enjoyable. While I was having memories thrown at me by my brain I thought of a game that really looked like WoW. It was this magic RPG that looked like an anime game. You were able to have a mount. Like a horse or even a broom XD. Everyone looked like a wizard and there were these combats from like about 5 people and everyone was able to use different abilities and elements. There were bosses that people could fight. It was a really old online RPG, but I don't remember its name. Does anyone remember this game?

Hi, so I really want to buy Forza Horizon 4 when it comes out, but I dont want to use my debit card, because I dont really trust digital purchases. I searched if there is a physical copy of the game, but I can buy it only digitally for pc. After that I got an idea. What if I trade my old games for a new game. I have like 2-3 games which I dont play at all and when I bought them they were like 60 dollars. So I was thinking if I can trade those games to get a code for Forza Horizon 4? I found 1 website, but it is not world wide and that is a problem, because I live in Bulgaria. So, if someone knows this kind of a website and has used it please reply to me.

First time poster so forgive any lack of knowledge. I used to play Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines, a really fun but old (1998) real time tactics game (http://store.steampowered.com/app/6800/Commandos_Behind_Enemy_Lines/). I got it from steam a while ago and it ran perfectly. Revisiting the game after a few years however, it runs sluggish and mouse movements are laggy. Looking online, the problem seemed to be the game wouldn't take full advantage of the CPU, and there existed programs that could speed up/slow down specific programs on your computer by messing with the CPU. The basics of the game is enemy soldiers walk around in specific paths, and you try to kill them and complete an objective; the game has a top-down POV. My game runs sluggish: mouse movements are heavily delayed, and everyone moves really slow. I found an ancient program, Speed Gear (downloaded from http://download.cnet.com/Speed-Gear/3000-7513_4-28403.html), which would allow you to target specific programs and make them "faster" by altering how they used the CPU. To my surprise, it actually worked! I turned the speed up really high and the soldiers would walk at superhuman speeds and the mouse was really smooth and responsive, like I hit fast-forward in game or something (unplayable, but tweaking it down I got it to a good and responsive playable state). However that didn't last long; after about 10 minutes of perfect gameplay it would always crash. Probably because the program is old and sketchy (after 30 uses, your trial expires). My question is: are there similar modern programs like that today? Or ways to speed up old games on modern hardware? Searching all I could find were programs that "slowed down" your cpu for old games, but hardly anything about speeding up old games. There exists solutions for DOS games, but this isn't a DOS game. Some suggestions I already tried were going into task manager and setting the game's affinity to all processors, raising its priority, running in old compatibility versions, uninstalling/reinstalling multiple times, replacing game files, etc. If anyone could help I'd really appreciate it, I just want to play an old game from my childhood. System Specs: Windows 10 Intel i5 2500k TZ68K+ Motherboard 8 GB DDR3 RAM GeForce GTX 970

Just as a notice upfront, this topic is mainly for me documenting my thoughts, as a sort of public online diary. If you find it too long and boring you are welcome to leave. Something that I've been coveting for quite some time now was the Tomb Raider collection on Steam. In the recent Steam sale I said what the hell, let's do it. I started playing Tomb Raider and I was having the time of my life. This game was one of those prominent games of my childhood. I remember that one time when my brother went abroad he came back with a new game. It was called "Tomb Raider". This might have been the first AAA game that I had a legit copy of. Even though it was in German and I didn't understand a word. Truth be told I don't think I ever made it past level 3 or 4. Then in later years came TR 3 and 4 (somehow I totally missed TR 2), and after that I kind of lost interest until the reboot trilogy (Legend, Anniversary and Underworld). So the nostalgia is strong with this series, and I was afraid that it might cloud my judgement of the game. This was the first time I really gave my best to beat this game. At first I was struck by a heavy sense of nostalgia, memories rushing back. But as I said, I never really got that far, so this subsided quite quickly. To my surprise I was still enjoying the game after that as well. There's just something that I can only describe as "AAA feeling". For 1996 this game looks and plays great. It aged very well. The blocky nature of the levels help with the navigation, even though it's sometimes an eyesore. But the animations, the lighting and the gameplay mechanics are all very well done. Oldschool games often had maze-like levels, like Doom or Duke3D for example, that involved searching for keys which broke up the fighting. In Tomb Raider, however, there were fighting sequences that broke up the platforming and navigation. There were levels in the Thief series where you had to explore ancient ruins and tombs that I just loved, and TR is a whole game based around that. Something about that just really captures my imagination. The best thing about it is that it has no "language" in it. They managed to refrain from written clues and puzzles. There are no markers where you have to go, no objectives screen that tells you what to do, Lara doesn't speak up to give you tips. The whole game is you, the player, trying to navigate this huge ass tomb, figuring out ancient puzzles, looking for keys to activate contraptions. An other thing is that it really has a sense of place. Peru, Greece and Egypt are all distinct. Not to mention Atlantis. I can't help but feel the enormous care and attention that must have gone into this game. Growing up I didn't play a lot of Eidos games unfortunately, but in my later years I've been picking up and playing through more and more of their games. The Legacy of Kain series, Hitman, Thief, Tomb Raider, Commandos. These are huge titles and some of the best games I've ever played. And in my opinion these games are timeless. There's a certain quality that comes with these games that make me want to play them. It might just be that I have a certain kind of love for old games like these, and a tolerance for them. But I think that it's more along the lines that these games offer something more. They offer real challenges, not just based on player skill but also on cognitive tasks. And I feel that this is something we've lost. Games nowdays are afraid to challenge our minds. We've shifted to a more cinematic gameplay and story based games, which is not necessarily bad. Some of my favorite games a cinematic experiences, like Max Payne 3, that even though don't challenge your brain like Tomb Raider, Thief or Hitman would, these newer games try to challenge your thoughts and beliefs. But I think it's a shame that we as a consumer base have become to lazy and impatient to appreciate the beauty in figuring out a puzzle. Instead if it's not apparent right away we resort to online guides. And still, at the same time we praise games like Dark Souls for not holding the hands of the player. Anyways, these are my thoughts. I finished Tomb Raider today for the first time, under 14 hours. I'm moving onto Tomb Raider II, maybe after I'm finished with that I will continue this little experimental online diary.

I've been trying to run Raymond 3: Hoodlum Havoc from GOG on my Windows Server 2012 R2 PC, but every time I launch it I get an error saying "Check your version of DirectX. Version 8.1 or higher is required." I know I'll get someone saying that it doesn't work because I have Windows Server, but I've tweaked Windows a lot and everything else works, so I don't think that's the issue. I have a 290x, so yeah I don't think it's a problem with my graphics card running a game from 2003. I checked my dxdiag and it says I have the feature levels support of DirectX 11.1,11.0,10.1,10.0,9.3,9.2,9.1. It doesn't however say DirectX 8.1, so maybe my OS supports everything from 9.1- 11.1 and nothing before, but I don't know. I've tried compatibility mode with everything from Windows 95 to Windows 7 and It's the same error every time. I don't know if maybe it just can't find my DirectX install or what. What can I do to fix this? I'd prefer to not install a VM just to run this game, but I guess I will if that's all I can do to get it to work. I'll be happy to provide you guys with any more info to help, thanks!

Hello, this isn't very important, but I'm trying to remember a game I played about ten years ago on a old PC that I no longer have. The game was a top down military RTS, or that I remember that was based in modern times. In it, you were in command of a small amount soldiers who you commanded to go certain places and each had names. You had a medic and if you received enough money while playing you could buy a tank or some other type of mech. you started each mission dropped off by a helicopter and the only other thing I could remember was that every time a enemy was killed all the soldiers yelled "tango down". I don't think it was very popular game, but It is just bugging me that I can't remember it. Thanks.

Hey guys hope you're having a good day So I have my laptop which runs games but isn't really stellar (Bioshosck Infinite ~28 fps at medium) and I want to play something on it. Since it won't run Crysis 3 or Far Cry 4 I was thinking of an older game, like Crysis 1. In case it doesn't run or I don't like it what else do you recommend? I will play mostly campaign.

I just upgraded to a Zotac GTX 980Ti AMP video card and I've found I'm having problems playing some older games (although I was getting this before, this is now a clean build so I presumed the problems would be gone). The games I'm having problems with are (so far): -Simpsons Hit and Run -When driving in a car the game randomly speeds up in parts making the car fly across the road and damage, the smoke coming out of the car is also speeded up. -World at War -Frame rate drops, I didn't think I would suffer from this on a game like WaW considering I can run new games fine at 60fps. -Command and Conquer Generals: Zero Hour -Tree animations are sped up and typing in-game is speeded up so when I press the backspace it removes multiple characters instead of one. Does anyone know the problems? I'd really appreciate a fix or at least what's causing it. Thanks!

Source: EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation) (Archive in case it goes down) Restoring old games is hacking, and all hacking is piracy, and all hacking is illegal!.... Right? (WRONG) You smell that? Yeah, it... smells like bull. No, it's not April 1st, I've almost got no words for this. This has to be the worst thing I've heard this year, at least so far. This is no different than the patent trolling that goes on in the industry, people like this keep relating things to piracy to stigmatise and scaremonger. Regardless of whether they're right or wrong in saying that hacking old games is piracy or not (which they are completely incorrect in saying) it doesn't matter, the general public will believe them and the consumers will not get any support. It's almost as if they care for nothing aside from money and business, it's like they become enraged when they see people doing things for free. I'm done, here's the quotes from the article. "The Entertainment Software Association doesn't want anyone to restore the functionality of older videogames that are no longer supported by their publisher, because, says ESA, this is "hacking," and all hacking is "associated with piracy." "Behind this hyperbole, ESA (along with MPAA and RIAA) seem to be opposing anyone who bypasses game DRM for any reason, no matter how limited or important.

So this topic is about what kind old games you want to be revamped/remastered for PC? I mainly want God of War, Crash bandicoot, Driver and Spyro what are the games you want?
