  1. Seriously back up your important data. Many people everyday lose their data for good. People are losing data, drives busting, hackers robbing data... Hacking is a serious problem and the thing is any data can be breached including military systems. If you backup your photo's, work, etc you can relax knowing you have it backed up, many people have not backed up and say yes I need to do that, but then bam! bam! bam! out of the blue two drives you're using fail and die, losing all your data. If you have multiple devices you can then make backups. If one device fails you still got your backup. Ideally though you are better off having an offline backup, because it simply cannot be hacked or fail. If you just have online backups that is okay but not ideal because it can be targeted by hackers and corrupted or the drive can fail, components fail all the time. I would be happy If someone read this and thought ohhh yes! I must backitup!!! At least it would have helped someone. It's truly awful for anyone if you lose a lifetime of photo's, what you cannot ever get back.
  2. If the internet went down and we were all offline what split-screen game would be your no.1 multiplayer game? Not including Lan play, just pure multiplayer on one computer.
  3. WD's MyCloud Web services, that are used to access, setup and manage their local MyCloud NAS Devices, have gone offline, leaving Customers locked out of accessing the Data stored on their local NAS Drives. Summary WD's MyCloud, local NAS Devices, where customers can store Data on their local network connected NAS Devices, seem to be fully reliant on cloud services to function at all. As of the time of writing, the WD MyCloud Web services have been down for over 12 hours, leaving customers unable to access data on their local devices. Looking at the Service Status of the outage, just about all functionality of these devices is completely broken - status.mycloud.com While customers can configure to enable access to the device locally on the network without the use of the mycloud cloud utility. THIS FUNCTION CAN ONLY BE ENABLED VIA THE CLOUD UTILITY!!!! So, for those of us who didn't foresee such issues, and just expected that we would be able to access out data locally if something ever happened to the cloud service! We are all completely out of luck! One Customer of the WD forum wrote; My thoughts Given how completely the functionality of these devices has been broken after WD's cloud services went offline, it certainly does make me worry about how much our devices are reliant on cloud-based services, and when these services go down or when they are no longer supported, what happens to all our own personal data. Especially considering this is a device that is installed and connected on the customers local network, such reliance on cloud services is almost like planned obsolescence getting backed into the device from the beginning, Sources https://status.mycloud.com/os4 https://community.wd.com/t/my-cloud-home-service-outage-02-apri-2023/282845 https://support-en.wd.com/app/answers/detailweb/a_id/34991/~/how-to-enable-local-network-access-to-data-on-my-cloud-home-using-the-dashboard
  4. I guess this was really stupid. I thought I understood well enough how this stuff works to convince myself it WASN'T a really stupid thing to do, but I guess I was wrong. Here's the short version: I have a Marvell 92xx SATA 6G PCIe raid controller card which hosts a 4-HDD RAID10 array that serves as my personal data storage and archive server. I pulled drives out while the system was still up, but I offline'd the array via Disk Management (Win11) before I did so. As soon as I pulled the second drive, I got a concerning notification from the controller itself saying the virtual disk was down. I plugged the two disks I had removed back into the system expecting the controller to take them back up once more and bring the array back online. But, that didn't happen. Both the controller card's firmware and Disk Management report them as unformatted disks. The controller card flags the virtual disk that is the array with a red X and reports it as "offline" with only 1 of the original drives still associated with it. The other three are labeled "unconfigured" (why THREE are labeled as unconfigured when I only pulled TWO drives is a mystery to me). So, my question is this: How fk'd am I, and how can I go about unfk'ing myself? The drives should still have maintained parity, right? Can I reassociate the drives with the array somehow? I'll never do it again. I swear.
  5. Budget (including currency): $1,000 Country: US Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: NAS I am going on a multi month work trip to a place where there will be no cell service or other internet connections. However there will be electricity and a place for a computer (inside a workshop) and router. The goal of this project is to make a machine that allows me to store an entire library of content (movies, TV shows, exc) and be able to stream ,or at least download, content that me and my coworkers would like to watch. If there are recommendations for applications/ services that would allow streaming of multiple local files at the same time to mobile devices. Also recommendations for ripping Blurays would be helpful. This is more of a request for applications than of hardware recommendations however both are appreciated.
  6. Hey folks. I'm looking for some suggestions for a messaging app that will work without an internet connection and on Android devices of various revisions. Due to various health problems in the family, I'm paraplegic and my mother is unable to talk. We need something that would work device to device without a Wi-fi connection as the mobile dongle I'm stuck with just now can be unreliable. Something along the lines of 'Signal Offline' etc It needs to be reasonably user friendly as my mum isn't tech savvy. This is my first day of searching so any suggestions would be great. Cheers
  7. Is this a good ups? looking something for a 5600x+3060ti+700w build. Should I buy it? Anyone with this? Any suggestions and reviews? Why don't the techtubers make reviews on upss? I am so confused to buying upss. Ups is a must in my country.
  8. TL;DR - How do I get a pool back online? How do I find the device name of my NAS? Hello, So over the past couple of months my Plex server became unreachable from people outside of my own network saying Plex to be upgraded. At the time i had FreeNAS 11.2. So I tried everything I knew (not much lol) and I googled for the answer on trying to update PLEX and the plugin. After trying everything, i discovered that it could be that I am on an older OS and freenas has switched over to truenas (I don't keep up with server tech. I built this thing a couple of years ago and set it up and forgot it.). So I went onto the web interface for my server and decided to upgrade the OS. The only trains available were 11.3 and 12.3 nightly beta. I decided to update to 11.3 in hopes that 12.0 would show up after the update (it did but when I try to switch to that train an error pops up.). So I switched trains to 11.3, which took literally 12 hours to install, so slow. After the install, it now says that my pool is offline. I only have one pool on the system. So how do I get it back online? I don't know how to do that. I've tried the command in the shell # zpool online "pool name" "device name" . However there is a slight problem, i don't know the name of my device. The pool name is Datacron. I looked all over the web UI and have only found the host name being Freenas. When i enter those names into the command it says it "cannot open Datacron: no such pool."' I don't know how to fix this. Thank you for reading
  9. Hi guys, I recently built the same Truenas Core as Linus did during this video: I put in 5xSeagate IronWolf 10TB NAS Internal Hard Drive HDD: https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B085ZB51HW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I configured my pool using raidz1 for 1 drive worth of redundancy. It was working great up until last night. My pool went offline. I did a manual SMART test on each of the drives and they all returned successful results. So I tried to export and re-import my pool. The export worked, but now when I try and import the pool, I get an IO error Error: concurrent.futures.process._RemoteTraceback: """ Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/local/lib/python3.9/concurrent/futures/process.py", line 243, in _process_worker r = call_item.fn(*call_item.args, **call_item.kwargs) File "/usr/local/lib/python3.9/site-packages/middlewared/worker.py", line 111, in main_worker res = MIDDLEWARE._run(*call_args) File "/usr/local/lib/python3.9/site-packages/middlewared/worker.py", line 45, in _run return self._call(name, serviceobj, methodobj, args, job=job) File "/usr/local/lib/python3.9/site-packages/middlewared/worker.py", line 39, in _call return methodobj(*params) File "/usr/local/lib/python3.9/site-packages/middlewared/worker.py", line 39, in _call return methodobj(*params) File "/usr/local/lib/python3.9/site-packages/middlewared/schema.py", line 979, in nf return f(*args, **kwargs) File "/usr/local/lib/python3.9/site-packages/middlewared/plugins/zfs.py", line 371, in import_pool self.logger.error( File "libzfs.pyx", line 391, in libzfs.ZFS.__exit__ File "/usr/local/lib/python3.9/site-packages/middlewared/plugins/zfs.py", line 365, in import_pool zfs.import_pool(found, new_name or found.name, options, any_host=any_host) File "libzfs.pyx", line 1095, in libzfs.ZFS.import_pool File "libzfs.pyx", line 1123, in libzfs.ZFS.__import_pool libzfs.ZFSException: I/O error """ The above exception was the direct cause of the following exception: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/local/lib/python3.9/site-packages/middlewared/job.py", line 367, in run await self.future File "/usr/local/lib/python3.9/site-packages/middlewared/job.py", line 403, in __run_body rv = await self.method(*([self] + args)) File "/usr/local/lib/python3.9/site-packages/middlewared/schema.py", line 975, in nf return await f(*args, **kwargs) File "/usr/local/lib/python3.9/site-packages/middlewared/plugins/pool.py", line 1421, in import_pool await self.middleware.call('zfs.pool.import_pool', pool['guid'], { File "/usr/local/lib/python3.9/site-packages/middlewared/main.py", line 1256, in call return await self._call( File "/usr/local/lib/python3.9/site-packages/middlewared/main.py", line 1221, in _call return await self._call_worker(name, *prepared_call.args) File "/usr/local/lib/python3.9/site-packages/middlewared/main.py", line 1227, in _call_worker return await self.run_in_proc(main_worker, name, args, job) File "/usr/local/lib/python3.9/site-packages/middlewared/main.py", line 1154, in run_in_proc return await self.run_in_executor(self.__procpool, method, *args, **kwargs) File "/usr/local/lib/python3.9/site-packages/middlewared/main.py", line 1128, in run_in_executor return await loop.run_in_executor(pool, functools.partial(method, *args, **kwargs)) libzfs.ZFSException: ('I/O error',) My complete system specs are: MotherBoard: Asus B550-I M CPU: Ryzen 3100 (using stock cooler) Memory: G-Skill 16Gb 3600MHz Power Supply: Corsair SF 600 Hard Drives: 5x Seagate IronWolf 10TB NAS Internal Hard Drive HDD SSD: Kingstone 250GB Case: JonsboN1 OS: TrueNAS-12.0-U8 I am using this NAS for Plex, File Storage, and a DDNS Server. Can anyone please help me. I have done the cardinal sin of not having offsite backups as it wasn't in my budget yet. Thanks, James.
  10. Hey there people, For a while, I have been looking for a new external backup solution and figured that it might be safer to have a backup disk with redundancy via RAID. The original files are stored on my own computer and the backup solution would be there to write an incremental backup to, about once a week. After the backup has finished I intend to power down the external hardware and pull the physical plug (no energy to the thing) until the next backup session 1 week later. Since the backups are done from a stationary desktop, a NAS would be a bit pointless since I have no intention to request any of the files from another location (I'm a bit old-school ). Whilst looking for a 2 bay DAS solution I found the Western Digital my book DUO (EAN: 0718037856377) as one of the few products available. However, I also saw many complaints about hardware encryption being done which worries me, for I would be unable to recover the data on either of the two disks when the hardware failed (and if I am led to believe from the complaints, that's not unheard of...). If anything, I would like to have my data save and accessible, which is the reason for the extra redundancy. I know that I still have the original on my computer, but it would be great if the DAS hardware enclosure was the only thing that I had to replace, instead of formatting the disks and rebuilding the whole backup again. Which raises the following questions witch I hope you could help me with: I wonder if there are other products like the WD my book DUO but without hardware encryption built in (or if they do, at least with the key available to the user). Somehow I don't believe that WD is the only company making consumer grade RAID storage devices but I'm not able to find 'Offline' multi disk/bay products except for NAS'es. If such product would allow to be turned off (completely) in between backup sessions. In order to avoid power surges and energy waste (standby mode). Quick overview of intentions: 2 Bay enclosure (with or without disks) Access over USB (a/b/c/ doesn't matter that much to me) 2x 4 TB disk (WD RED or Seagate ...) RAID 1 configuration against single disk failure Semi - manual backup (I hand-pick the folders in a backup program and run manually) with the original files still on my pc. No other devices need to access the storage (over the network at least) No expansion in disks or size for the foreseeable future (pref.) Sold in/to northern Europe (current lock-downs make traveling to get something a bit difficult) If you have experience with a similar situation, I'd like to hear your chosen solution. If you are a storage guru (or anything close to that ) please share your wisdom. If you know or bought a good DAS product, I'm interested to know too. If my explanation or question is unclear, please ask for more details. Sincerely, Jack PS: I searched this forum too and found a few results for sort of similar cases except they have no product recommendation or are answered with NAS solutions and since every thread shows a message with "this is an old topic, it's better to start a new one" I tried to listen for once
  11. Hi!!! So a friend is having a problem in wich he starts a livestream on his twitch channel and his channel just disappears from our followed channels, also showing that he is offline. 14. Hey guys, Made a new build a month ago installed windows 7 and had no issues whatsoever, the build is a ryzen 1600 build with 8gb hyper x 2400 mhz ram and a gigabyte ab 350 gaming motherboard with a rx 570 running on 3 hdds. The issue arose when i tried to upgrade to windows 10 . I tried to upgrade directly from windows 7 and ran into booting issues. Then i tried a clean install but was unable to do so because windows 10 always gives the same error " could not set the offline locale information. Error code 0x80ff0000." I dont know what the problem is i have scoured every forum and every thread that had the slightest mention of this issue. The installation media is not corrupt, the hdd is fine ,bios has been updated to the latest and still the error pops up at the same time when windows copies all files and starts to install features.I dont know what the problems is .I tried to install two different windows 10 versions one from disc and the other from usb drive and both show the same error at the same time.I tried installing both the version via the same media on my older fx 8350 chip on an asus m5a97 le r2.0 with the same hdds and both the versions installed without a hitch. Please help me i have no idea what is wrong.
  15. So I'm a competition management system for a certain sport, which will support a variaty of different scoring software packages to communicate with. One of the requirements of this system is that it will be easy to use and cheap to use. The system should work for very small competitions and bigger ones. So I want to see if it's possible to make an online solution which can also work in a offline situation, why you ask? Well this system has to run in all kinds of different venues, some of them have very crappy or even no internet at all, so the system shouldn't be reliable on internet to function. But on the other hand in a small setup it would be nice if it could work just online so people don't have to install anything. So my idea is to have different "roles" in the programming and have RESTFUL API's commuicating with each other between these roles. each role can function online or offline and you just need to configure (or it will be done for you probably) which IP it has to communicate with. Now for the bad idea, I want to program this in php because of the high database dependacies and because I know php pretty okay. Another reason is because most webservers allow for php and i don't want to be restricted in which host/server is used by using for example node.js and finding it's not supported. So the question I want to have a php script running on a desktop. This is not that hard, i found solutions like "php desktop" which can do this. But preferbly I also want my code not to be viewable. Does anyone know for any licencefree/free applications which can be used to do this propperly?
  16. Hey y'all, running Windows 10 on a Dell Latitude 12 Rugged (7202) and like the Windows 10 offline maps but it doesn't seem to use my GPS. Its only getting my location via wifi, not very good at all... Other GPS apps like map sphere work using the GPS on COM PORT 1 but I can't figure out how make Windows 10 maps use the GPS. Thanks!!
  17. Hello guys, anyone knows what's the best Offline GPS ? Maybe you could drop some instructions if necessary from where download offline maps and the app name. I am totally new in GPS thing Tried MapFactor, but it's inaccurate by like 200m.

  20. I'm trying to run a modded Minecraft server but it doesn't appear online and I am unable to connect to it however it loads up fine in the command prompt. I want to run the server through my laptop and play the game through my PC. The server is online from the PC but when trying to run it on the laptop it's offline. When I run the server on my Desktop PC a normal cmd prompt opens alongside a java one. When I run the server on my Laptop only a normal cmd prompt opens. (see attached photos) Is this the problem? Could it be a port forwarding issue? I don't understand how it would be because I've run many servers through my desktop before and still can. Perhaps my router is blocking my laptop? When I try and connect to the server on Minecraft. io.netty.channel.AbstractChannel$AnnotatedConnectException: Connection timed out: no further information Some useful information: - Java version 8 update 261 - Windows 64 bit machine - Modpack Valhelsia 2 - 1.15.2 - PC uses ethernet, Laptop doesn't - The laptop is the "Surface Pro 6" - Asus RT-AC68U (router) I've tried: an inbound firewall rule using 25565 TCP and UDP Allowing private and public access for java trying Java version 8 update 231 trying Java version 8 update 251 trying Java version 8 update 261 Turning off the firewall then running the server Starting the bat file through the java.exe path Server start bat java -jar -Xms4G -Xmx8G -XX:+UseG1GC -XX:+UnlockExperimentalVMOptions -XX:MaxGCPauseMillis=100 -XX:+DisableExplicitGC -XX:TargetSurvivorRatio=90 -XX:G1NewSizePercent=50 -XX:G1MaxNewSizePercent=80 -XX:G1MixedGCLiveThresholdPercent=50 -XX:+AlwaysPreTouch forge-1.15.2-31.2.30.jar nogui pause Essentially the server works fine on the PC but doesn't on the laptop so I have a perfect benchmarking system to solve the problem. If anyone wants me to try something or sends more information feel free to ask. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks! 21. Hello all! I honestly do not know how to title this nor do I know what I am asking/looking for so imma just jump right into it. Currently a firefighter and spend a good amount of time at the barn. A few of us would like to start a Minecraft (Bedrock edition) world but our one biggest hurdle we encounter is the lack of internet and any decent cell reception, due to being out in the middle of nowhere. Yes we do have a network but its only for the firefighting stuff. That being said, is there any way we could all jump in a session from different devices/accounts utilizing some kind of offline network or access point with the bedrock edition of minecraft? Would appreciate any ideas or any other posts related to the topic at hand. Maybe i'm just bad a googling but couldn't seem to find a solution anywhere.
  22. I am wondering if its possible to create a file server that is disconnected from the "internet". And only accessible through select computers on a company network. In which all permitted computers connected to said server can read a retrieved file but only one computer may actually save new files to the server. This sole computer that can save files should also be allowed to modify documents but only save those edited documents as new documents rather than overwriting previous versions of said document. This computer needs to be completely removed from the internet for extreme privacy purposes. All updates to software and OS and the bios must be done by a removable device plugged directly into the server/pc. Any advice on how to set this kind of server system up? Or instructions?
  23. So I have a DS216+ and it randomly goes offline occasionally and cannot be summoned on the LAN via any software means. Even the router does not see it on the network. If I hard reboot it, it wakes up and acts totally normal. It's offline state (see video). Anyone have any ideas? video-1527963444.mp4

  25. Hi! Just wondering if there is a TV box (Android TV sort of things), that can download netflix shows/movies to view them when offline. The end goal is to - Download 4k (or any quality really) shows and movies during off-peak time (midnight~7am, I have 10tb download allowance/month), - View the downloaded shows during the day without chewing up the bandwidth for my other usual internet uses. I also have 1tb peak time (7am~midnight) allowance (compared to 10tb), so it only seems reasonable for me to just download TV shows and stuff during the off peak time. Thanks in advance!
