So I am considering buying a new router since the one I got from my ISP can only do wifi and have a little switch connected for wired. The problem is that my pc when connected to the switch can't find devices connected to the router via wifi. So I wanted to get a router that has wifi and a few lan ports instead of having the router and switch seperate. From the ISP I got this: https://eyenetworks.no/en/air-4920-product-information/ and the switch looks exactly like this just smaller (could not find the exact same) https://eu.dlink.com/uk/en/products/dgs-1008d-8-port-10-100-1000mbps-gigabit-switch So I am not really sure what price point I would be looking at. I could maybe throw 50 dollars on a router and be more happy with it than what I have now or maybe I would need to spend a lot more? I have only ever had the standard routers I got from my ISP. I had considered wanting to use my quest 2 headset with oculus airlink but I am not sure if any router would do or if I had to buy something more expensive like a "Asus rt-ax86u" for example? I play games on pc that is always wired, my ps5 use wifi and is in the same room as the router, and then I use my smart tv that is upstairs that is in the room right above the router. So it isn't a huge house or anything. I hope that someone will be able to give som suggestions or information. Cause I am not sure what exactly I am looking for or what price point I need to look at to get what I just explained?

This issue just started up recently where my steam vr will just completely lose my right controller but if i go to the oculus home it's perfectly fine. My second issues is that after about 30 mins of any vr game no matter what my steam vr just crashes or my oculus link just quits. I have been using a link cable for all my pc vr and i have 3 vive trackers 3.0. I have tried reinstalling my oculus and my steam vr and tried it without my trackers on and with air link/virtual desktop with the problem still happening just not as often when using virtual desktop and airlink. Just incase anyone asks i have tried a index and a quest 2 and the problem still happens. I even did a fresh install of windows with the problem still happening. I recently picked up playing ATS in VR. Setup was a breeze and everything is easy to adjust. However I have not touched graphics settings. And I seem to have an issue where when I'm still the image is crisp as can be, but when I start to move my head or drive forward it makes everything look like a watering mess. I have zero lag at all it's just the image quality being super watering with occasional screen tearing. I waited to adjust the graphics quality until I talked with someone more experienced in beta VR. And yes I definitely am aware that ATS was not made for VR and everything I'm using isn't exactly stable. However I'm seeing people play this in VR with no issues like mine. I wouldn't think it was a graphical limitation as I'm running an i5 12600k and an RTX 3060 KO and 32Gbs of RAM. I am using it over wifi but my PC is hardlined and I'm no more than 5-10ft from my oculus and even when I'm in the other room playing something like Blade and Sorcery from my PC it runs fine so I'm not thinking it's wifi but I thought the info may be necessary. Thank you!

so, me not being a fan of me-Facebook, i dont exactly trust the oculus app and what it might be doing on my system (im sure i could go through and block whatever network access it has, but anyways). i already plan to install OculusKiller to free up system resources, but i also wanna know how much i can delete from the Oculus folder, in a similar way i did when i had Virtual Desktop running, where all i had left after was C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support, so at least SteamVR could work properly with my quest. basically, i wanna delete as much as possible so that all thats left is whatever is required to allow steamvr to connect to my quest over a link cable. anyone have any suggestions or anything like that to share?

I've had my quest 2 for a while now without this issue. Only recently, I came back from an overseas trip which lasted about 2 weeks, my quest 2, connected via a link cable, suddenly has a ton of screen tearing after launching link. Almost looks as if there is a second monitor over the main display that is delayed or extra smooth. I've tried restarting the oculus service, restarting the headset, re plugging in and out my wire, and uncapping my bandwidth limit. Specs: 6700xt 5700G 32gb 3200

Hey guys, new to the LTT forum. I'm looking to get my first VR headset. The Quest 2 seems to be great but I wanna get some opinions about it. My question is really for the more experienced VR users: Is the Quest 2 a good experience compared to a 'full-fledged' VR setup? And what system specs are needed for a better experience? I have a spare room which I could make work, and my brother is replacing his RX 590 fatboy so with a little work I could make a real setup. With that said, I have heard that the Quest 2 is a great experience, it is much cheaper and easier as well even if I don't mind the work. Any input is appreciated!

I'm currently sourcing parts for a PC build which I plan to use for VR. I'll be using an Oculus Quest 2 and connecting it through Virtual Desktop and AirLink. The only card I can find in my budget is the Radeon RX6600-XT. Will this be an alright choice for the Quest 2?

I use an Oculus quest 2 to play PC VR games using Oculus Link. It works great! I have had basically no issues with it running on my PC. I think i will use it to play PC VR games for a long time. Eventually, however, I will want to upgrade. What headset do i choose? The Vive headsets don't seem to out preform the Quest 2 in any way. And even if they do, I don't know which specific model does so. I've heard the Vive pro does well, but it's extremely over priced. And the Valve Index is too far out of my price range ATM. I'm willing to save up for any of these headsets, but I just want to narrow down which one I should buy. Any advice would be helpful!

so pretty much i like to animate and play Vr, so i downloaded blender and oculus link on my RTX 2060 and Everything worked great! Then about 3 months ago an issue arrised my oculus link would crash upon opening heres vid (https://youtu.be/7xyRfXlVB4E). and then i did some digging and figured out my GPU would spike to 100% then go back to normal and that would crash link. (in the vid when it does the freeze frame thing is when the GPU spikes). i dont know what is happening and would love really any input!

Hi! I've been thinking about getting an Oculus Quest 2 for a bit now, but I'm a little worried its a bad idea. It mainly stems from the fact that the Oculus Quest 3 is rumored to be announced early next year. I don't want to buy a VR system only for a better (and possibly cheaper) version to come out a month later, so if you guys could answer a few questions for me that would be great. [Forewarning: Most of these will be about speculation] 1) Is there any credible info that the next model will be a more expensive/'Pro' model? 2) Will the Oculus Quest 2 become obselete soon? (i.e. no more updates, games won't work, etc) 3) Are there any other VR headsets around the same price range which might be better? If you've got any more information that might be helpful feel free to add it. Thanks!

Hi Everyone, Wanting to get some advice for a router specifically for Oculus Air Link. I currently have a nighthawk X6S AC4000 router, but it's in the room next to my PC, and can't be moved. Latency and general stability of oculus air link is a bit rubbish. Was looking at maybe getting a dedicated router and use it as a Wi-Fi 6 AP. Unsure whether anyone's had experience of this setup, and/or can recommend a good router for it. Looking at the TP-LINK AX1500, seems to be one of the cheapest WiFi 6 capable ones. Thanks!

I dunno if Peripherals is the correct subforum to post this under, but I searched and saw other VR posts here, so if this is the wrong place, let me know. The company one of my family members work for has bought 5 Oculus Quest 2's that they want to use for community events and online meetups, I suppose. However, it appears that they have no clue how to actually get them set up and didn't know about the facebook account requirement before purchasing them. They thought they'd just be able to make one account and share it across all the headsets, but it seems they wouldn't be able to play online with each other if they do that. I've been told there's a more business oriented version of the headsets you can buy, but that doesn't really help because they've already purchased 5 regular consumer model quest 2's. I guess what I'm really asking is what the best way to go about setting up these headsets would be. Do they just have to make 5 facebook accounts to tie to each of the headsets so they can play together? Is there any risk of those accounts getting banned and bricking the headset since there's no actual person tied to them? Any help or info would be appreciated, thanks.

The title pretty much explains it. I try to run the installer and it it'll show up on my taskbar for about a second until it closes by itself. I have already contacted the Oculus Support Team but I want this sorted out as soon as possible. Here's a list of things I have already tried: Restarted computer Ran it as administrator Ran the Windows troubleshooter Tried to install it on a different drive I have 800+ Gb free on C drive Tried to run it on a different drive Killed all other background apps Disabled Windows Defender Disabled Windows Firewall So I Googled it and another forum told me to take a look at the .log file. I checked it out and the error was: [Error] [12/26/2021 8:44:30 PM] DeviceIoControl() failed with 0 bytes returned. [0] [Warning] [12/26/2021 8:44:30 PM] Exception when enumerating drives: System.Exception: Exception of type 'System.Exception' was thrown. at Daybreak.Win32.Kernel.IsInternal(DriveInfo driveInfo) at Dawn.InstallLocations.Scan(Int64 requiredSpace) Any idea what this means? Any help would be appreciated. This has been frustrating me all day. Thanks.

Every game I play I get ping anywhere between 200-500. I'm connected to the right internet and everything. I have Telus Fibre so I have pretty good internet. I don't have a router in my room so maybe getting one might help?

So basically, I try to start the oculus software and what happens is when I plug my oculus quest 2 in, the app gives me a spinning wheel indefinitely. It recently started doing this for whatever reason. I have tried to revo uninstall it and then reinstall to no avail. I have changed no default settings within the installation. I have however got it to work on my PC when I installed it on my drive with the Windows 11 preview making me believe it is something to do with my Windows 10. I have 21H1 Pro Edition. I have attempted to look for solutions on the internet to no avail. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Hello, I came back from vacation to a Rift S with a broken cable (due to moving around a lot while playing) a month ago. I've been dealing with Oculus Support ever since, and they've sent a replacement model. I was excited for it to finally work again, but it just didn't (a new issue occured where I just saw static snow or 3 loading dots). I contacted them again, but nothing was working so I completely wiped my main drive and reinstalled Windows (as I got impatient and I've been wanting to do this anyways to speed up my PC). This ALSO didn't fix it. I'm honestly just extremely confused, and I really need help. We tested the USB 3.0 port and the DisplayPort with my brother's Valve Index, and it worked just fine, so it has to be a driver issue of some sort. We also tested my Rift S on my brother's PC, and it works perfectly fine there. Any help is appreciated. If no one knows how to fix it, I'll just sell it to get a Quest 2. (this was reposted from reddit because no one knew a solution there)

Hi, I've tried using a oculus development kit 2 for a school project on unity, but I can't get it to work on my machine. First of all this is the first time i've tried to set up a VR headset. First when I plugged it in the light was blinking orange and blue and the screen was black. So I installed all the packages in my unity project and the unity folder, now it isn't blinking and connecting/disconnecting all the time anymore. But when I try launching dreamdeck just to verify it works well I get a blue screen. My computer Asus ROG Flow x13 (2021): Ryzen 7 5800HS, 16Go, 1650 (Max-Q) (I know the graphics card is barely supported for VR) and I deactivated the energy saving to only use the Nvidia chip. I've tried to plug the headset directly into my computer and through my usb-c dock resulted in the same shenanigans. I know there was a probleme with ASUS motherboard and USB driver but a driver solves the problem and I sure hope that my drivers aren't from 2017 since my laptop is only 2 month old. Is my computer doomed ? Or is it just the DK2 that isn't supported anymore ? That was 1 week ago now I have access to a Vive Cosmos and it is far better no blue screen !! (Hurray) games kind of launched but there is nothing i shown in the headset, (I tried using a dell usb c hub since i don't have any HDMI to DP adapter). Can I use this laptop for VR ? Thanks for your help

facebook Facebook testing Ads in VR Oculus apps and Games
Master Delta Chief posted a topic in Tech News
Summary Facebook is starting to test ads in VR apps on the Oculus platform. Currently, it’s primarily going to be on the Quest, though is likely going to expand to the other devices. Facebook will expand their system based on the feedback of users, claiming that it’s aim is to create a “self-sustainable platform” for VR development. There are already ads on the Oculus mobile app since last month, but it’s limited to only Oculus data. Quote from Facebook Quote from The Verge A spokesperson from Facebook mentioned that the ad-system will use information from your Facebook profile as well as: My thoughts I once considered to buy a Oculus Quest as a means of gaining access to VR in a "cheap" way, however their actions in creating ads within VR apps as well as the requirement of a Facebook login (of which I’m certain there’s already a way to avoid that) makes me not want to get a Quest and just try to find a relatively cheap WMR headset. Though with that said, the "cheap" ones are unfortunately a bit rare where I live. I’ll be glad though if someone manages to make an adblock for those in VR. Before I discuss the problem, I will give out my specs: Ryzen 7 3700x Included Cooler 16GB 3200mhz Corsair Vengence LPX MSI B450 Tomahawk Max Gamdias Kratos M1 750W Bronze Zalman S3 2 1TB Samsung 860 Evo, 1 1TB Toshiba HDD EVGA XC RTX 3060 Backstory (SHORT): I recently upgraded my GPU from a GTX 970 to an RTX 3060 and I've been having problems since. The Problem: When I go into Oculus Link from my Quest 2, if I move to much, it will freeze on a single frame and will either reset the oculus rift home or boot me back to the quest screen. My brother, who is much better with computers than me, said that it could be the cable's bandwidth, but it worked with my GTX 970 so I don't think it's that, but I'm still curious on what the problem is and how to fix it. I also hear almost a frog croak sound coming from my computer ever since I put the RTX 3060 in my computer.

I've been watching oculus's website for weeks trying to get a replacement Optical Cable for my Rift-S. It has not come back in stock for well over a month, that I have noticed. The amazon link just recently had some in stock but they cost nearly as much as a whole new VR headset. Anyone have news on how long this scalping crud is going to last? Or any alternate way to use an Oculus Rift-S without the oculus brand cable?
