It's not often that you see tech companies care for so long. But when it comes to gaming, ASUS takes things seriously. "Republic of Gamers" (ROG) is their gaming-focused sub brand that provides the enthusiast with gaming motherboards, graphics cards, headsets and so on. There's even a backpack available for your ROG notebook. And their enthusiasm is not limited to present-day technologies. Today, ASUS revealed their new ROG IDE cables. John Trent, ROG representative, tells us: "We want enthusiasts to be able to build complete ROG setups. The technology is outdated, but hell, we released ROG SLI bridges not to long ago. We don't care." ASUS claims that these special cables can achieve transfer rates of up to 170 MB/s by the use of ultra clean and smooth copper, taking gaming to the next level. However, installing the cable the right way around is important. "Every cable, before receiving the ROG logo, is installed and tested for performance to determine the best direction of installation. Once it's determined, they print the ROG insignia on the motherboard side of the cable." And consumer feedback appears to prove them right. In many online shops, the cable was sold out only a few hours after release.

For wide array of reasons, I'm looking to move from my Corsair C70 to a Bitfenix Prodigy. I need something I can strap into my passenger seat and reasonably carry across a parking lot once a week. While I'm saving up to move to Ryzen later this year, I was looking to see if I could just grab a z77 ITX board, but all I see on ebay is a sea of non-overclockable parts. Is there somewhere better to find few-years-old components, or am I SOL for this summer?

Hi I have made a server out of an old Sun Microsystems ultra 20 m2 and it has been working good so far but I want to update the bios as far as I have been able to find the 1.8 version .img from someone's personal server that to be honest that probably won't be up for very long. I want the latest 1.9 version but ever since Oracle acquired them they removed Sun Microsystems support repository as you can see on the way back machine but the links go nowhere. Also to be completely honest Oracle just wiped Sun Microsystems prior to being acquired off the face of the earth. I as well can't contact the proper support on their website or their phone line because without a support id I can't EVEN TALK TO SUPPORT (smacks forehead). I just find it sad that I can search and find a whole freaken Macintosh repository but Oracle snapped it's fingers and all support disappears. But that's my rant but if anyone has anything concerning the bios update that would be AWESOME.

Today it would appear that Apple has added a new repair program for those of use with older Apple devices. So it seems like Apple is, imo, more than likely trying to keep people from seeking out independent repair shops that are run by people like Louis Rossmann. Yeah, considering how far back these programs go, I can't help but feel that they are trying to hush the calls for Right to Repair by opening up this program to devices that are almost completely unusable in todays world. Apple typically will classify a product as vintage/obsolete after 7 years, after then you are SoL for 1st party repairs. So it looks like they will only be servicing these machines if they have the parts just lying around or they come across them from trade ins or their recycle program. That could also be another source of this program coming into existence. Apple has made it very clear that they would like tor recycle everything that they can and make their manufacturing process and how they operate as a company as green as possible. Getting people to bring in their old dying Macs for repairs or recycling if the repair is not viable is a great way to keep Apple devices out of landfills. I am running an i5 6600k and an rx 480 4gb (all stock speeds). 8gb ddr4 ram aswell. I can achieve 60 fps on 1440p high in BF1, will NFS payback be the same or is it more demanding. I feel like my GPU is becoming obsolete now. AC origins doesn't run too well (40 fps lock at 1440p med) and watchdogs 2 is unplayable... However, these are Ubisoft games remember..... PS: I hope to play it at medium/high settings

Hey guys. I have my current system which has Core i3-4370. I am planning to upgrade my cpu to Core i7-4790k by the end of this year. Is it advisable to upgrade my Haswell Cpu for future compatibility or jump to the latest platform which is the skylake? Is the LGA1150 platform obsolete? Please enlighten me about this. PS: I'm on a tight budget. Thank you.

I have a 6350 on my main system , was a sweet little chip back in 2012-2013 , but nobody is recommending it or it's little brother (6300) nowadays. The architecture is old and the chip kicks 50C after 2 min in DOOM and 70C after a 1:30 hour gaming session, so I get why but it looks to me that it's performance is not half bad, especially for the price. Yet still people don't recommend it, albeit if you buy it it's pretty much standard to get an after-market cooler to overclock it aswell. Still less expensive and better performing than the i3-4170 at around the same price . . . or is it ? I made a pc for a friend with the i3 in question , it performed phenomenally but his resolution was lower than 720p so I can't really compare it's performance with my rig. Can somebody with hands on experience fill me in ?

Hello! It's been a couple of years since I kept proper up to date with all the technology advancements in the PC universe. I've been looking to upgrade my GPU for a little while now, and will do to a 1080 or 1070. But ever since one of my MOSFETs on my motherboard decided to melt, killing off my good old Z77 ASUS V GENE and 3570K, I have been looking at some new stuff to buy. With innovation moving so slowly the last few years outside GPU technology, when do you guys reckon things will pick up again? and when do you think new technology will "force" a upgrade? As I said I'm not extremely up to date, so is there anything on the horizon that could bring an actual incentive for people on Sandy or Ivy Bridge to upgrade? DDR4 for example does not bring any impressive performance gains for a generational shift, nor does Skylake. I'm guessing there is no need for a PCIe 4.0 standard as of yet. However how long do you guys think it will take before PCIe 4.0 or a new SATA standard would be 'needed' or implemented? Or another form of technology that would be a proper selling point for new hardware? I am contemplating at the moment to wait a little while for Intel (or AMD for that matter) to release a new CPU generation and with that new motherboards following, it is my guess however that I might as well just buy current Skylake hardware as there is such little innovation. Thoughts?

With only minor improvements over Haswell in gaming-centric programs, I've witnessed many an argument as to whether Skylake is worth it, perhaps for the new features or the broader upgrade path. I still see almost everyone going with socket 1150, since it still has an upgrade path to high-end consumer CPUs like the i7-4790k, which performs on par with the flagship 6700k, although this could be subject to change with the release of superior Skylake processors. With that in mind, how long do you think the Skylake platform will last? Do you think the extended upgrade path is a good reason to pick Skylake, or should people stick with 1150 just as they stuck with 1155 when 1150 was new? Regards, Aereldor.

(Before starting a description, this is not exactly news and I am not much of a writer, however I am posting it here including my sources. This issue, as-well as the IPv6 Router Advertisement flood needs to be resolved. This won't be the easiest to read however, anyone with some technical knowledge should be able to get the just of what I am saying) Sam Bowne teaches Ethical Hacking at the City College San Francisco1. Sam Bowne has done many talks at Defcon which can all be found on You Tube2. Most recently Sam Bowne had his students modify & compile malware in Python into Windows executables3, thus making Virus Total.com unable to detect it(Virus Total does not use heuristics, as normal Anti Virus engines would) making the code effective against Anti Virus softwares with Behavioral Analysis options disabled(Which they very rarely are)4. After having published his findings a Twitter follower by the name of Bobby 'Tables5 suggested to Sam Bowne that Behavioral Analysis really only watches the process for "a minute or two", suggesting that a simple delay in combination with Sam's original method could make both definitions obsolete by modifying the malicious code, compiling in Python, then switching it over to a Windows executable, leaving heuristics or "behavioral analysis" the only thing left to pick up the malicious code. To get around heuristics Sam simply used a delay after starting the process to in essence wait until the guards pass to do something malicious. The delay issue in itself actually worries me a fair bit more than, a slight modification of malicious code in Python. My suggestion for Anti Virus manufacturers is to offer users the flexibility on both how long heuristics will watch certain processes, and maybe even the intervals in which the Anti Virus software re-checks processes. Anti Virus Software such as ESET Nod32/Smart Security is already so light weight and efficient that, I could see myself having it watch processes for about an hour long still with minimal performance hits.
