in need of someone to bash some common sense in me
akoniko posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
Hi there, i was planning on building a pc that could do anything i could ever dream of (within reason ofc) without crippling my bank account. still quite new at this so any tips and stuff would be greatly helpful. https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/6V84pB the list i had prepared, needs in depth inspection from a trained proffesional (someone who've built at least 1 (one) unit) ive been playing on a potato laptop that doubles as a space heater/stovetop combo and looking for a major upgrade, a little treat, mmmmmmmmmmmmm yummy parts. shoutout payday Budget (including currency): $5000 CAD Country: Canada Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: unlimited games no bacon, video editing/streaming, practically 24/7 operations, any other fun hobbies i might come across >.> (blender, UE5, the like..) Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): buying sometime this winter (time constraints aren't rly an issue) -
Budget (300$ or 400$): Country: US Hello everyone, I am currently building my own gaming PC and I have been adjusting my part list to create the perfect rig for my needs. However, with recent news about the MSI situation, I am now hesitant to go with the motherboard that I had chosen from that brand. As I plan to use my PC for gaming, streaming, programming, 3D modeling, machine learning, and deep learning, I am looking for a motherboard that can handle my needs and is reliable. My budget for the motherboard is preferably around $300 to $400. I would appreciate any recommendations or advice from the community on what motherboard to choose. As for the rest of the parts I'll list them down below. Intel Core i7-12700F 2.1 GHz 12-Core Processor (purchased) Noctua NH-D15 82.5 CFM CPU Cooler (not purchased) TEAMGROUP T-Force Vulcan Z 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory (not purchased) Samsung 970 Evo Plus 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive (not purchased) EVGA XC3 ULTRA GAMING GeForce RTX 3080 10GB 10GB Video Card (not purchased) or 4080 12gb? Phanteks Eclipse P600S ATX Mid Tower Case comes with x3 fans I believe (purchased) EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G5 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply (not purchased) Noctua A14 industrialPPC-3000 PWM 158.5 CFM 140 mm Fan x2 (not purchased) total my budget for this entire build would be roughly 2k not including tax.

My question is, besides losing support for older CPUs which I don't care about, are there any downsides or hassles associated with updating your bios/uefi, assuming your power going out and bricking your board isn't one of them? Will it have effects similar to clearing CMOS? For example would all of my RGB settings and fan curves have to be recreated from scratch? Not sure if any extra context is needed but here is my personal situation. This is the gigabyte page for my MOBO BIOS revs https://www.gigabyte.com/us/Motherboard/B550-AORUS-ELITE-rev-10/support#support-dl-bios I am interested in smart access memory so I'm kind of excited since zen2 now supports it, but I don't really have any USB 2.0 problems etc. like others have reported, so I can't really think of other reasons to rush to update my BIOS unless I get my hands on a zen 3 CPU. Hello there. Long time viewer, first time forum poster. This is my first time ever building a PC, the only time I even opened a case was to remove an optical drive from one PC and install it in another. Anyways, my question is: how do I connect x5 3-pin fans (3 included with the case and 2 arctic p12s) into the motherboard fan headers? Since there are only three of them do I need some sort of splitter cables, or a fan hub perhaps? I also want to have voltage control for the fans, but I read around that connecting 3 fans to a PWM hub would have them running at 100% all the time. (if that's true that is) The motherboard in question is a Gigabyte B550 AORUS ELITE AX V2 and the case is a Phanteks Eclipse P400A Digital. Fans are the 3 included D-RGB fans that come with the case and 2 Arctic P12s (3-pin).

The specs of the PC I am building are here below. I am wondering if the Power Supply I was able to pick up is going to be efficient enough for my computer to run properly or if I should return it to Newegg and wait for bigger wattages to come down in price because...all of the power supplies of higher wattages are a bit above my price range with the ones that ARE...are a lil bit iffy right now. Hello! total beginner and novice pc enthusiast here so excuse my ignorance on a couple of topics! so i´ve had this pre-built pc for a while that i bought for my dad and i've been using for some light photo editing for a few years as a hobby, but recently some small photography jobs are starting to appear and i was thinking of also doing some 1080p video editing. (no big projects or youtube content at all, mostly just resolutions that work for social networks) i was wondering if there are any parts on a 7 year old pc that are worth replacing instead of trying to build a "budget" pc, and i'm in venezuela and if you know anything about what's going on down here, my "budget" is incredibly limited already, but my brother live in the US and could send me some parts and i wanna know what could make the most sense! obviously it's no master-race gaming behemoth but i recently beat the witcher 2 (yes, 2) on 800x600 so i don't mind turning most bells and whistles down i understand something like a 1050ti could run straight from the motherboard since it doesn't need an additional power supply (good, since the one included is a generic, chinese one), and i think some of the newers 1650 can also run straight from the mother board? i don't know how a core i7 from 2012 compares to i3 or i5 from newer generations but this thing currently handles anything but games pretty comfortably. how much would you say makes sense to spend for a novice photographer like me? i do all of my gaming on ps4, but have always liked to try pc games too! anyway, would really appreciate your options about what storage, gpu, or ram would make sense? THANKS

Gaming for now, but will eventually be used to stream (PC and PS4) and then later to be used to develop games (3D Indie). Monitors. Initially 1 @1440p-144Hz, then another one when I get into streaming. Would like get up to 3 curved monitors for "maximum immersion", but might also go with a Wide/Ultrawide @1440p~144Hz curved and a portrait monitor on the side. Curve tightness doesn't matter a whole lot to me as I have plenty of desk room to position. I'm taking recommendations as I haven't exactly decided yet. Budget for new monitors is between 500-850 US$. Peripherals. I already own an Arctis 5 (2019 vers.?), DUALSHOCK 4 (PS4) controller, HyperX Crossfire Wired Mouse. I do not own a keyboard yet, but I already know exactly what I'm looking for there (Cherry MX Speed Silvers). Looking for streaming equipment and haven't done much research on it yet. Don't want to spend more than 150 US$ on: Mic, Stand, Camera, Pop filters, etc. Open to suggestions. Why I Am Upgrading. I currently own a Dell (pls don't hurt me) Gaming (it gets worse) Laptop (it was a gift, I swear). It runs League of Legends with max settings at 63 fps. Yikes. I know that there is a big problem with thermals and it is thermal throttling when I play video games because when I crank the AC to MAX I can play up to 80 frames for a few hours. I want to replace the thermal paste, but I want to have a functional laptop in one piece with nothing broken more. Plus, I'll need somewhere to get the OS from. Additional Info. I live in Ohio, so the outside temperature is consistently unstable, so I rely on air conditioning and keep it around a 69-72 degrees fahrenheit. I am very open to suggestions about possible build paths. Reason I went AM4 was to eventually upgrade to the 3900's. Games I would like to play with the new rig: Far Cry 5, Borderlands 3, Outer Worlds, MH:W, WoW, LoL, Minecraft, DBD, DS3.

Budget (including currency): $3500 USD not including peripherals. Willing to go slightly higher if needed. Country: United States Aim: This build will primarily only be used for gaming. This is my first time spending so much money on a build, and I feel I am a little out of my element with part selection. Even though I have built all my previous PCs it was never with such a wide selection and high budget so I feel like a novice builder in many respects. The primary goal is to build a rig that utilizes the new 3080 series coming out in the next month or so. I know this will eat up a majority of my budget despite not knowing a true price point yet, and I wanted to plan accordingly. As far as time is concerned I would like to order all of my other parts before the release of the new GPUs so by the time I receive it I have everything else already built and cable managed. I would like to avoid using liquid cooling options and instead use a heat sink like the "be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4". I don't really have an interest in RGB, or anything that will put out a huge amount of light or sound. If the part does have RGB its not a big deal, and I really wouldn't mind. But aesthetics are just something I don't care much about. So far I have put together some items but because of the wide selection I can't really tell if I am getting the most out of my choices. Below I linked my PC PartPicker system builder and while I think the choices are good, I feel like I don't have the most up to date knowledge to make the best choices. Playing games with my friends and family is large part of my life, and for the first time I am able to comfortably afford something this expensive. If anyone has any idea's for parts, suggestions, or comments I would really appreciate it. Budget (including currency): £400 Country: UK Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: GTA V, Minecraft (java - modded/shaders), Far Cry 3/Primal, Dying Light, some basic video editing tools for remote learning for pupils (I have done some screen recording for tutorials and teaching, and this would continue to be important) Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 (stock cooler, but debating an upgrade) RAM: 3200MHz 16GB RAM - Can't remember the name, I think it's Corsair, CL-18 MOBO: MSI B450 Pro Carbon Gaming with Wifi PSU - overkill Seasonic platinum tier 800W (It was on an exceptional deal and there were general shortages of other options at the time of purchase) Case: Fractal Meshify C - two included case fans + 2 Noctua 120mm (configured as 1 rear exhaust, 1 top exhaust (lined up with CPU) and two front intakes) The above are all recent purchases - my old PSU blew and I needed a new system with a quick turnaround in early June - no time to wait for B550s or to properly investigate RAM etc. Storage: 1TB 7200rpm HDD - ~10 yrs old, forgotten name 1TB HDD/SSD hybrid - FireCuda 1 TB ST1000LX015 Current GPU: Asus ROG Strix r9 380x 4GB Displays - two 1080p basic options - one is a philips 221B from the v. early days of HD (2007/8?) and the other is an old Sharp Smart TV we replaced with a bigger model for the living room. Both are 60Hz standard, running off HDMI (I used a DVI-HDMI convertor) My aim is to futureproof the system as far as possible - I would like to play 1440p in future, but have no budget for that kind of monitor for now. In the meantime, I want a system that will enable me to keep gaming without too many compromises on 1080p for 5yrs or more before considering an upgrade. I am currently looking at the Gigabyte Windforce RX 5700XT 8GB for £350 on amazon however I'm not sure if this is overkill or will 1080p games begin to demand 8GB VRAM in the future? My alternative option would be an Nvidia1660S (the 6GB GDDR6 versions ~ £220 at first glance), and then using the money I save on a 1TB proper SSD (It turns out my hybrid SSD is a bit crummy (I bought it as a compromise when SSDs were still fairly prohibitive in price)) After spending ages trying to work out which GPU is best, I haven't the foggiest where to start on SSDs. Linus talks about NAND and other bits which kind of go over my head. Should I go for the 5700XT, or save on the GPU and upgrade the SSHD to something better? Is NVME worth it/affordable enough? I would want to go for 1TB storage again, as the other drives could be general bulk storage but I would like current projects/games to be able to take advantage of faster read/writes than an HDD. (I could compromise to 512GB if there were good balances to be found elsewhere) An additional query, though this maybe belongs in another forum - having never had the budget to become an audio-visual connoisseur, would people recommend a higher refresh rate 1080p monitor for smoothness or a 60-75Hz 1440p monitor for fidelity and detail? I am not fussed about super speed frames or advantages in online play, I am more interested in an enjoyable viewing and playing experience. (I have included this thought as it may impact on the choice of GPU recommended) Apologies if this is way too long-winded - it's my first ever forum post! Any help would be much appreciated. P.S. If you can magically recommend a monitor upgrade, SSD and decent GPU for less than £500 (I might be able to push the budget if a monitor were involved) that would be amazing! (but I imagine impossible)

I have been slowly upgrading a Dell OptiPlex 3020 into an below okay low end gaming rig for a few months now (like 8 - 10 months) and am needing a new pc so i thought I would ask the LTT Forum for some help! also i overheard my dad saying that he will just buy me a pc so I don't constantly ask for upgrades which sparked me to look around for some parts to build one so he doesn't get me and intel based machine that has a GT 710 (Just to note that my dad thinks that Intel Is Better than AMD For value and performance cause the last time he bought a pc was 8-6 years ago so in the replies could you also state why AMD is now better, cause I don't have much knowledge of how intel went from a good choice to a bad choice for consumers) Budget (including currency): £300 - £400 (idk the exact) Country: United Kingdom Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Premiere Pro, Obs Studio, Games (can be run on low settings if needed (I'm used to it lol) ) I'm going to be doing some Gaming, Video editing and recording with some livestreaming, need a rig that is capable of doing those simultaneously. Parts CAN be second hand I plan on getting a GPU second hand I am upgrading from: (was a dell OptiPlex 3020 before i did some small upgrades) CPU: i5-4590 (4c/4t) GPU: R5 240 (bad lol) RAM: 2x4GB DDR3 1600 MHz Motherboard: idk all that ik is that it doesn't restart (black screen when I try) CPU Cooler: Unidentifiable, looks like a intel default with some random no name fan on it. Storage: 500GB HDD (idk the speed) 240GB SSD Going to buy parts in October Want to play games at 1080p 60fps Any Settings (100% Resolution Scale) Current Parts List: https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/ZF162ZMB87SI?ref_=wl_share No Peripherals needed All help is greatly appreciated!

So i have posted to reddit alot, and i was told to post here. My problem is that my pc display goes out after nudging it, and it bothers the hell out of me. Once its out, my power led on my case goes out, and stops working to turn off the power. But, when i reset with the psu switch jt turns on the pc, but the pc doesnt display. I jave tried all ports, onboard and on my gpu. I have reset cmos. I have gotten the pc to boot long enough for me to install win10, but after nudging it like i said, the pc becomes a lottery, with a 1 in 500 chance of the power button working, leaving me to repeatedly reset cmos, plug and unplug, and all that jazz. Please help, as i just built this system and i want to game! The specs are ryzen 3 1300x, rx 460, wd 250gb (i know ill buy more storage) hyper x fury ddr4 2400, msi a320m gaming pro, and cooler master 500w lite. All stuffed and cable managed into a corsair 88r case.
