Okay so i've noticed recently when i try and download ANYTHING windows update, malwarebtyes, steam; or any real software no matter if its 300kb or 8 gb it fails within seconds. If i turn on any free vpn such as urban or hide.me, ect.. the moment i start it i can download anything without fail. i proceeded to download steam installer file 25 times with 100% success rate through vpn. without vpn it was a 100% fail rate. i have 400 mbps, Ethernet connected, ive contacted ISP they have told me they are all good but replaced my entire line from pole to house, through house to modem, they replaced modem and router all free(really nice of them). the issue sadly did not get fixed, i also noticed that i would get a norton notif every once in a while saying something like "intrusion attempt bocked" or "redirect blocked" keep in mind i will be on my desktop programming not running any other programs or surfing the web. i have norton 360 run scans daily and ive never caught anything. when i ran malware bytes it found 44 cases of malware. i removed them and then scanned the next day finding another 10 malware, i made sure not to surf the web or download anything during the 24 hour period to be sure i just wasn't being a fool and downloading malware. so i've come to the conclusion that perhaps norton just isn't finding a rat of some sorts, and someone has been throwing malware on my pc and norton only blocked a few download and redirects. Im curious if anyone has some thoughts on whats happening? also im very safe when it comes to the internet i don't goto 'FREE __" sites i don't download random stuff, i simply play TF2 on steam and code for work nothing more. i know this isn't the proper place to seek computer suport but norton won't help, isp can't do more, and im running out of options? norton support told me basically "well if norton doesn't find anything then you're fine; if we have a tech look at your pc it'll be 99.99" so knowing norton couldn't find the 44 malware to begin with i canceled my subscription out of hatred for their lack of support and came to the most tech savvy forum i know THOUGHTS? WIN 10 64 bit gtx 1050ti intel 8100 32gb ram 1 tb nvme. do pc stats even matter? idk but there it is

I have a norton vpn and whenever I use it omegle says, "error connecting to servers" and it doesn't work. I set the region to America where I know it is not banned. It only works if I turn off my vpn, I made sure to clear cookies and browser data and it didn't work with the vpn. How can I fix this?

I'm running a Windows 2016 server as a file and maybe a media server one day. My question is, do I need to have a an antivirus program installed or would windows defender be enough protection for it? I have Norton 360 on it right now (they gave me an extra key when they upgraded me). I'm thinking that windows defender should be enough but I just want some other opinions to make sure I have everything first.

I'm looking at replacing my Norton 360 that I currently have that Norton tried to auto subscribe to me at £95 for 1 year and when I went to cancel it they offered me for £40 for 1 year but that is more than I hsve seen in magazines that I read the two have have interested me the most is Norton 360 Deluxe + Utilities Ultimate 2023 [5-D, 1-YR] £17 https://store.computeractive.co.uk/p44029-norton_360_deluxe__utilities_ultimate_2023_5-d_1-yr This would essentially replace the subscription I currently have but add the Norton Utilities that is suppose to be good. Avast Ultimate 2023 [10-Device, 2-YR] £25 - Antivirus, Avast SecureLine VPN, AntiTrack, and Avast Security Ultimate for Andriod & IOS https://store.computeractive.co.uk/p37015-avast_ultimate_2023_10-device_2-yr It gives a lot more for your money but I don't know as much about Avast as I've been using Norton for 15+ years Do anybody know if there is much difference between Norton and Avast?

I know I am dumb but, I am still using Norton on an old laptop. (I renewed the subscription before I knew better) Anyway, I don't really want to full on uninstall Norton. However I want to use the Dark Souls Connectivity Mod. But it is a .EXE from a random website, and whenever I try to run it Norton deletes it. (I know it is safe, I have friends who are using it right now) If you want to try and help me you can try. But mostly looking for commiseration.

Alright, so as far as anti-virus was concerned, I've been pretty settled on Avira for a very long time, about 5 years roughly. This was until I started checking my CPU usage in task manager recently and found it at 100% constantly. This was on the desktop baring in mind. Whenever I started to play games, my PC would stutter and it was because of this issue. I know this because as soon as I started ending Avira processes in the task manager, the usage would reach normal levels. Avira was running a constant demanding scan which was using 100% of my CPU. I decided to put an end to it. I have uninstalled my anti-virus and I am in the process of finding a new one. For the mean time I am using Windows Defender. I am eager to know what anti-virus software you guys use and which ones you can recommend for me. I don't want anything fancy, just something to give me the peace of mind than my computer is sufficiently protected. A free trial should do fine, or if anyone has any other ideas, it would be much appreciated. Thanks, Pat.

Hey Everyone, I'm just on here to look for what peoples opinons are. So we have Norton antivirus ending soon (I know its paid for, but it was good for my parents at the time) and really we don't want to spend money on a subscription and want to save money in the long run. We also have a wireless router that was supplied from my ISP, I know I don't have to say but it is of average quality but we tolerated it. Now is the time I am thinking whether to upgrade to alot better router, end norton antivirus and use the built in Microsoft defender and some preventative teaching to keep my home network safe. I am quite experienced with networking so the more advanced nature of networking isn't really scary, but I have not been in this predicament before so I don't really know the non enterprise options that are good. So what I would like to know is what are the some of the best routers for the best experience, seciuirty and speed I could get for a maximum of around £150 to £200. I see some that are Asus and Netgear and just think whether these are more secure than my current router and will at least be a good combination with the built in Antivirus. Some information to note: Most devices are Windows 10 or android 7+. I don't have IoT devices (Alexa or google home) I have some smart TV's from samsung. My ISP is Virgin Media (UK) Router is Virgin Provided SuperHub 3 I hope to have some help in deciding the most secure router I could get that is also a known and supported brand. Thanks Jake

I just downloaded the twitch desktop app to get devil may cry on my computer and then my tablet is went off alerting me that my wifi network is compromised by an unknown third party: SSL Decrypting: an attacker is attempting to decrypt this net work and may view and alter your communications. But none of my other computers are going off (maybe cause they are wired) and I cant find the encryption settings in my router setting (linksys 1900acs) and i know they havent fixed the Krack problem yet. Anyone know how to fix this?

So I was trying to download Firefox as my back up browser and my Chrome wasn't working to I went to my internet explorer. I keyword searched Firefox and clicked on the first web sight, not knowing it was a add website. So I downloaded the installer, I ran it and it disappeared, so I tried again and the second time I realized it was a fake site. So I quickly ran a full system scan in Norton and all it found was about 10 tracking cookies (those cookies had my name in them for some reason) So I now assume everything is cleared up. Should I do anything more to make sure my computer is free of viruses or anything it might have done? And yes I know I`m idiot for not realizing earlier This is the sight if it helps anything (open at your own risk) www.open-download.com/Firefox

First of all, happy new year to you guys! I'm currently in need of any advice or suggestions on what can be the best possible antivirus software for home/personal use? I have goten away with using none for quite a while(bad practice) since I don't transfer files with many other computers. That isuntil recently I've come across a virus that turns the folders into my usb drives and my new WD My passport ultra (ouch!) into applications. The files were okay and luckily. I've managed to clean the infected drives by trying out some workaround through cmd and deleted the "recycler" folder. I've also reinstalled windows on the affected computer - no virus (for now). Now, I'm looking at different antivirus programs that I can use to make sure that the drives are thoroughly clean. I'm currently looking at Symantec's Enpoint Protection (since I've read that one user was able to clean his infected drives with a Symantec software, though he didnt mention what specific prgram he used). Although, during the installation process for the trial version, I've noticed that it involves some network/server configurations and whatnot. This got me thinking that this might be too much for home use. (The srver configuration is still on going until now). What other antivirus programs can you recommend? Or is Enpoind Protection okay? I've tried ESET Nod 32 a while back to remove some infections on usb drives as well, but unfortunately it didn't detect the recent virus my usb and computer had. Thanks!

What Antivirus do you use? I want a new one for my rig and all I really want it to do is: Block Malware, Phishing Protection, Something that can remove junk or extra files from my computer. But yeah, I just want to know a decent Antivirus (Paid or Free), and also what one do you use and do you like it? Or can it not handle modern Malware?

Why does everyone here hate Norton and their products?

So, I had left my PC idle for a bit, I came back, and I noticed that performance was crap. I checked task manager to find 4000+ rundll32 processes dedicated to norton. Rebooting didn't help.

When Linus unboxed the Gigabyte U2442D ultrabook, he mentioned that there's no point in buying antivirus software because there's so many free options available. I was wondering if this is actually true, because most of the free antiviruses are lacking a lot of features. Should I stop paying for my Norton subscription and get a free program instead?

Hello Internets, So lately I've been noticing that random Chrome windows will open all by themselves and show me some stupid spam or ads. The problem I have, is not only is this problem highly annoying (Say I'm in the middle of a game of Hearthstone and it pulls me out just to show me this >_<) but it is also not being detected by my Norton's 360. Does anyone know how this problem is occurring and/or how to fix it? Any help will be greatly appreciated - tharrison14

Hi everyone Iv'e been using Norton security for my computer for a couple of weeks and it's using all my CPU usage. My computer is quite old but runs like a champ until I run Norton in the background, every time I run Norton Smart Firewall and Norton Auto-Protect it says Google Chrome is using large amounts of CPU usage but when I turn off Norton my CPU usage goes down to 15-25% like normal. I just can't use Norton like this so if there is a way around this it would be a great help. Thanks

So i went to fire up Insurgency today and was greeted by a "game failed to start (application missing)", i thought this was very strange because i had not played the game in a while but it was working last time. So i verified the integrity of the game cache and it said there where four files missing and are going to be re-downloaded...Something like that. Once it finished Norton popped up and said the games main exe was a Trojan and was deleted. Has this happened to anyone else?
