  1. Hello! i´m building a pc in the Fractal Design Node 202 case and i was wondering how i should config my fans? INFO: For those who don´t know, the fans are mounted under the GPU giving very little clearance between the (in my case) 12mm slim fans and my Asus rx480 oc Dual (no not 2 GPU´s). it´s about a 5mm clearance. The GPU is an open air style graphics card. Question: Should the fans push air in or pull air out from the case? THANKS!

    Help , wonky new build

Hello linus tech tips forum, im resorting to you guys for help, i have a new build computer CPU : i7 6700 mobo : MSI h170i pro AC mini itx GPU : xfx rx 480 gtr balck edition PSU : corsair SF 450 sfx power supply Display : HP pavilion 32 (48-75hz freesync) 1440p display case: node 202 fractal design strangely when i installed the first gpu in (rx480 RS,. i bought the wrong card), it wines badly with electrical buzzing noise, and so does the second one that i RMA (RX 480 GTR), this third one also whine, but really slightly, not as bad as the other two.(it whines ONLY when playing games or demanding program) so there are couple of problem. 1. my gpu is studdering badly on firewatch, only on firewatch , i played ABZU and heroes of the storm quite frequently and its fine. (going to test with witcher soon) 2. while playing abzu with the freeync on , suddenly the diplay lost input signal. (replugging does not seem to solve the problem) and i dont hear the sound of device unplugged (normally windwos 10 does this when i unplug the displayport.) is it a shoddy PSU or is it a driver issue ? im tired of trying to solve this annoying problem. i can provide video and photos to help with diagnosis.
  3. HELLO! I´m building in the Fractal Design Node 202. And i was wondering if you could fit a case fan right over the CPU Cooler, in the motherboard compartment. there is a dustfilter right above the Motherboard and CPU Cooler, to let air into the case. The fan i´m using is 12mm thick. the CPU Cooler i´m using is the Cryorig C7, it´s 47mm. The indent in the case for the dust filter is 8mm deep. And the case supports CPU Coolers up to 56mm. IT PHYSICALLY FITS IN THE CASE. QUESTION! I`m going to be using the case fan as an intake. Between the Case fan and the cpu cooler it´s about 5mm between the CPU Cooler and the Case fan. Would it be ok to have that small of a clearence?? Thank You!
  4. Going to put a really thin case fan right here with where the motherboard is. Was wondering for this small form factor case, Is it better for air to push or pull? I will make it worth with some screws bwahaha. It is the Node 202 case
  5. 1. Budget & Location US of A, 750 USD max, purchasing on Black Friday. 2. Aim General Use, Light to Moderate Gaming, Eventually, Light Video Editing and VR 3. Monitors Running on a 4K TV for now. Gaming will be done at 1080p 4. Peripherals Already budgeted for and chosen. 5. Why are you upgrading? Can't game on my current MBP. Morning to everyone! After about 10 years in the Apple ecosystem I've decided to come back to PC gaming as the PS4 just doesn't cut it anymore. Due to a lack of space in my current apartment, I can't find a nook to place a monitor, so, for the time being until I move out, this new pc has to be hooked up in my living room, to a 4K TV. I'm looking to run everyday tasks with this PC, as well as set up a future racing rig once I have the space, I wanted my components to be at least minimum VR spec so that I at least have that option down the line. I this I ran into a few problems. which I'll talk about in more detail below. This is my partlist which I'll be purchasing on Black Friday / Cyber Monday, and is still open to change besides a few components. 750 USD is the max budget. PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant Type Item Price CPU Intel Core i5-6500 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor $170.00 CPU Cooler CRYORIG C7 40.5 CFM CPU Cooler $26.99 @ Newegg Motherboard Gigabyte GA-H110N Mini ITX LGA1151 Motherboard $14.96 Memory *GeIL EVO POTENZA 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory $67.99 @ Newegg Storage ADATA Premier SP550 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive $61.99 @ Amazon Video Card Zotac GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 6GB Mini Video Card $239.98 @ SuperBiiz Case Fractal Design Node 202 HTPC Case w/450W Power Supply $119.99 @ Newegg Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts Total $701.90 *Lowest price parts chosen from parametric criteria Generated by PCPartPicker 2016-11-17 05:11 EST-0500 CPU - I want a quad core for future proofing / a future project of mine which will envolve some video editing. I was equating an i3 6100, but I feel the quad core performance will be a better bet in the long run. The price is from the current sale at my local MicroCenter. CPU Cooler - Want this thing to be quiet and the Intel SHF just doesn't cut it from what I've seen, so I decided to go with this after a lot of positive reviews. Mobo - This is an open box from MicroCenter at about 44 USD, with 30 USD off from the combo deal, it comes to 15 USD which really is a no brainer. I'll pick up an M.2 Wifi/Bluetooth card later and add that in so that this rig will become more portable in the long run. Memory - RAM is ram in a closed case. 16GB is the least im looking for if I'm ever going to go into video editing. SSD- One of my areas of doubt as currently MicroCenter has an Intel 600p 250GB M.2 PCI SSD at 70 USD. Which would you go with? I've read some reviews that the 600p isn't all that great but it's still faster than a SATA 6 SSD right? Eventually, I'll pick up a 2.5 HDD to add some data to in the long run. GPU - Lots of questions here... But I've decided to be able to run VR long term here and the jump from 500 to 600 to 700 USD in terms of performance is huge, so 750 USD is the max budget. Which leaves us with the RX 480 or the GTX 1060. I'd like to go with the 480, as I may Hackintosh this system eventually, and that would be more compatible, as well as more future proof. I don't run any super stressing games, Diablo 3, Dirt Rally, Civ 6, Football manager, Motorsport Manager, Borderlands 2... and I plan on playing this at 1080p if the game doesn't run at 4K, eventually in a VR setting. Being this a small case, I'm inclined to go with a blower style cooler, but the stock RX 480 isn't really all that great... Does anyone have a regular 480 in a Node 202? Does it run super hot? After JayzTwoCentz reviewed the XFX card, I'm inclined to go with that one of the MSI gaming X version... The 1060 is also a solid choice here as that is about 10% better out of the box, about the same price, and a better overclocker... But DX12 performance is looking better on the AMD side, and I'd like to keep this system for a little while. Case / PSU - This thing has to fit in my living room and this was the easiest way to do it. Not a fan of the SilverStone case, and the fact this one comes with a power supply is pretty clutch. A little worries about heat dissipation but well see how that goes. Keyboard / Mouse - Ordered the Anne Pro 60% Wireless Mechanical KB, and buying the Logitech G403 eventually to go along with all this. After all I will be playing from my couch so no wires would be lovely. Thanks for your input!
  6. Hi. Node 202 is compatible with SFX PSUs up to 130mm long. Seasonic Focus SGX-450 PSU is SFX-L, but it is 125mm long. I found 3 builds on pcpartpicker with that combo, and in one of the builds the guy had to cut the case for power cable to fit (he states that he used SGX-500, but dimensions should be the same). Other builds did not report any issues, and I can't tell by their pictures if they had to do the same. Maybe these guys did something differently (e.g. replaced power cable)? This is the only decent (tier-A) SFX PSU that is currently available in my country, so hopefully I can make it work without cutting the case... Maybe someone on these forums built the system with that combo and can confirm that it can fit?
  7. Currently, I have a low profile Noctua cooler keeping my ryzen 2600 nicely cool in the tiny Fractal Node 202. Obviously the trade off with such a small case is heat, and in turn noise. But what i want to know is, is it worth using a 92mm to 120mm adapter to attach a larger fan (a slimline noctua) to the cooler to help further reduce heat, and noise? All props to the tiny fan on the cooler keeping the 2600 frosty, and it being barely audible at that, im just anal about it. Therefore, if i can improve anything about the build, i will! (photo for reference) Specs: Ryzen 5 2600 16GB 3000Mhz DDR4 6GB MSI GTX 1660 (super slim notctua underneath to help the intake of fresh air) 500GB SSD
  8. Aware this includes no actual "red" however, it was the successor to "big red" in my profile photo! Decided I wanted to move away from my Dell Inspiron 7500 Gaming Laptop, as I found myself using it as a laptop less and less becuase it was so heavy and loud. At the same time, I also fancied a smaller compared to my previous and so: Little Red was born. Build out of the tiny Fractal Node 202, here are the specs: MOBO: Asrock B450m mini ITX AC CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 6 core/12 thread @3.7Ghz Cooler: Noctua NH-L9a AM4 RAM: Crucial Ballistix 2x8GB DDR4 @3000Mhz GPU: MSI Gaming X 1660 Super 6GB GDDR6 @1990Mhz (photo is a week old, the super was an upgrade literally yesterday) SSD: Sandisk 1TB PSU: Fractal Integra 450w (came with case) Extras: Noctua slim 120mm fan sat under the GPU Having never actually built in such a small case before, it was quite a challenge at first. I removed the drive cage to make room for the GPU, and the SSD just kinda sits there in its place nice and secure behind the absolute MOUNTAIN of cables fractal provide with such a small case (???). Really impressed with the system! Runs everything I need games wise, as well as being silent as hell unless you're under some serious load. Even then, its only the tiny CPU cooler that you hear, but it still does a great job at keeping the 2600 frosty really in such a small case. I decided against mechanical drives purely for speed and noise levels, plus if im goig to move this thing around (like taking it home for the holidays), the SSD just made sense- much better. The original iteration (this thing has been through 2 GPU's already because im picky) did have a sapphire nitro RX580, but that thing ran hot and loud. Credit where its due, these MSI cards might be expensive but i'll never use another brand I think as even its older brother Big Red who my friend now owns has a Gaming X 1060. I havent heard the fans spin up to audible levels ONCE yet. Possible upgrades? Well, i'll probably replace that ram with 2x16GB just because I can (and thats the max the mobo supports anyway) and maybe drop in the version up on this CPU, again, because I can. But apart from that, the last thing to do would be to populate the M.2 slot on the back of the motherboard. Thanks for reading, this was a fun build that'll hopefully last me some time!
  9. Currently, I'm using Fractal Design Node 202 and my CPU has been delidded and my concern is that the liquid metal inside. Will it leak over time if I travel around with it? Will be using a backpack most of the time. Anyone had issues with LM while often transporting/travelling PC? Application of the liquid metal is a moderate amount, not too little nor too much (Conductonaut). Any feedback would be helpful.
  10. Hey guys, so I want to get better cooling for my PC. Important aspects to know is that it's a Fractal Design Node 202 case, so that means there's only space for 2 fans beneath the GPU, I'm running Stock cooler on the CPU and GPU, The GPU is an EVGA GTX 970 FTW. So questions to come. Which CPU cooler should I get? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VGDN6F6/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1MF7H0BYA5GKO&coliid=I2QM28GRFMSW6H https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009VCAJ7W/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1MF7H0BYA5GKO&coliid=I1XB4TTVTG4OD6 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0080ATR2Y/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1MF7H0BYA5GKO&coliid=IPAKQT0FZN6TR&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0177GTV9U/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1MF7H0BYA5GKO&coliid=IVFSXJF2GITH2 Which two 120mm fans should I get to make an exhaust under the GPU and would having the GPU and the fans trying to pull air in opposite directions in less than one inch space work?
  11. Hey everybody, first sfx build project here. I'm trying to fit a little gaming/workstation in a node 202. I'm a sound designer/game designer and I'd like to have a 6700 (maybe k) in it to profit of hyperthreading when I'm doing editing and recording. Do you think that a noctua l9i will be enough to cool a 6700[non k]? (I'm pretty sure that it can't cool a 6700k even if it's not overclocked, tell me if I'm wrong, it would be awsome to have a 6700k ahah). There's not a video card because I already have a 970 (even if it's not blower style but I'm "cool" with it right now). I need a small form factor because I travel a lot and I'm not able to work properly on a normal laptop (and cool ones are way too expensive for my possibilities). Thanks for your help, I can't wait to see more on this forum. Enrico
  12. I recently built my own computer in the node 202 case. I love it however the GPU is getting very hot. The problem I think is that the case only has one opening for airflow in the whole chamber which houses the GPU. I have attached two pictures to illustrate my point. I added arrows where the airflow comes out on my card and where the only air vent is located. Does anyone have any advise or do I need to look into a different case?
  13. Ok so I plan to custom watercool in my node 202 I am using an r9 nano and a 4770S please dont tell me it cant be done or its dumm etc im not here to argue. I have one problem for my waterpump I need a molex cable but the 450W PSU that comes in the Node 202 which I already have the power supply measures 4 inches long does anyone know a power supply thats under 4,5 inches long that has a molex cable?
  14. ***read the title*** So, i wanna build myself a juicy htpc sized beast pc... planing on using a 6850k in a node 202... gpu is gtx 1080, ssd 1tb etc... i was wondering if you could tell me a good fan for this cpu and this case in particular. For all i care, you can make me a pc on www.pcpartpicker.com if ya have any ideas. Aimimg for a small pc gr8 4 travelling and gr8 for gaming m8. Price? Around 2500 USD. I have a mousd kb and a monitot already. Tnx in advance Me, Myself & I
  15. Since roughly the start of 2016 I've been contemplating a new watercooling project, but wasn't sure what to do as I was happy with my main rig already. Then my thoughts turned to upgrading my HTPC so it could play games as well as serve media (with the aim to dust off my racing seat/wheel and play on the htpc. I spent some time thinking about how to approach this and then @red773 made a thread about how he'd watercooled a node202 which really kicked off my interest in making this a reality - although I wanted to go hardline and also wanted it to look completely stock from the outside (so no chopping the top of the case up to let tubes fit etc...). Fast forward a few weeks and I had pretty much everything I needed apart from the pump/res (more on that in a later post) and the final list of fittings. For anyone who wants a complete parts list you can see the pcpp link in the spoiler.. Before I even consider putting any of the watercooling parts together, I had to fix a huge issue..... The motherboard and RAM are red and black - which I absolutely detest (sorry to the millions out there who love it). I stripped off everything with red paint on it and already thought the bare components looked a lot better... For the heatsinks, I simply masked off all the black areas leaving the red paint exposed before giving it a light sand. The RAM accents were just sanded and the chipset heatsink had a combination of masking and being attacked with a sharp blade to remove the plastic covering it came with to expose the red paint. As I live in a high rise apartment, I don't have access to large areas to put together a spray booth so I had to go ghetto on it in my living room! A few coats later and it looked a bit like this That's it for now but plenty of updates and pics to follow (I'll add spoilers to the first post for late comers). 16. Hey guys, While planning out this PC I couldn't find much info about building such a high performance PC in this tiny case so I thought I would write something up. If you are planning a similar build and have any questions I would love to answer them! Also, if you would like any benchmark numbers let me know and I'll run them when I get a chance! Here is the PC part picker link with more info! http://pcpartpicker.com/b/KnccCJ
  17. Well one day I thought it would be cool to build a mini itx pc with an r9 nano. Shortly after that Kyle made a video of his itx pc in a node 202 with a 6700k and an R9 nano. After this I gave in and ordered all the parts. i5 4570T, shitty gigabyte h81 motherboard, 16gb ram, Sapphire R9 nano, 480gb ssd. After I build the PC I benchmarked it to find out it's slower then my 380 because of the CPU bottleneck, so I got an i7 4790 used with scratches on Ebay for $250. I got the CPU did not test my PC again since I was busy working on my main PC. Then one day I thought why the fuck not custom watercool this tiny ITX computer? I found all the parts I needed to watercool it from PerformancePCs I picked out a waterblock for my R9 nano, a custom ROG EK supremacist EVO and I was going to get a EK SE 240 rad but it was out of stock so I got a magic cool rad instead which was only 1mm thicker. Then I found some slim 120mm fans on Amazon and I got 2 of those. Long story short I got all the stuff I needed and started building. \ I started with installing the waterblock, I ended up breaking the fan header on the PCB because the stock cooler fan wire would not come out. I started putting the tubes in place, I ended up not having enough tubing for the PC so I had to reuse some much larger tubing from my main PC making the tubing in my computer all different sizes. And my large tubing would not sit tightly over the pump so I tried to use zip ties to hold it, rookie mistake, the PC had a huge leak the second I tried to fill the loop. It took a lot of paper towels to clean up. Fast forward my PC is still leaking at the pump but I got the loop filled and am now using iron clamps to hold the tubing. The PC works but has not been benchmarked yet. Close up of the ROG CPU block the sex appeal is real. From this side you can see how everything fits, this setup is only possible with a single slot graphics card for everything to fit. You could use a Nvidia card however I highly don't recommend doing that, first you would have to cut off the DVI port on the card to make it single slot. Also due to the cards length, the fans would be struggling for air in my setup only one fan is choking for air, but if the card stretched over both fans the airflow would be highly reduced. I also don't recommend a Fury X or regular Fury because as I will show later the performance is the same but the Fury would take far more power for the same performance. Not to mention the Nano is cheaper I got mine for $480 on Newegg from Sapphire. And final picture of the PC I will be uploading more photos when I cut the cover panel of the case to actually fit over this as the fittings of the GPU block it from closing all the way down. I forgot to mention as suggested to me by a couple super helpful members I am using a sata to molex adapter to power my pump as this power supply does not have any molex power cables. The leak has been fixxed for now I am still waiting to see if it will leak or not after I added 2 iron clamps to each pump output/input. This build is a work in progress feel free to leave any feedback or suggestions! The firestrike score is 12648 with everything stock. This score using my 4790 actually beats my old score of 12382 when I had a 5820k and a Fury X in my main computer. Temps are as following: 60C at load on the CPU and 48C at load on the GPU.
  18. Hello. I'm am wondering if anyone have experience with building in the FD Node 202. It is quite small, and I'm a bit put off that I have to have one or max two SSDs. Mass storage is a bit of an expensive challenge. I have noticed that there is a "support bracket" below the graphics card. However I want to know if it would be possible to insert an HDD below/underneath the GPU. This do require me to get a blower style card, which I am OK with (not optimal). I think it would give room to put in a positive pressure fan next to the HDD as well. I think this will be possible, but this is just a theory, really. It would in case give me the possibility to add a lot of storage, while keeping the very small form factor, and style that I like. Anyone know if this would be possible? I appreciate all the help I can get. Thank you in advance. PS. I have obviously not bought it yet because money.
