Need help troubleshooting a problem with an old PC I was recently playing a game (Factorio) on my good old gaming PC when it hung (screen froze, audio repeating sample/buzzing). Turned off and back on but was never able to get a video signal back since then. The computer (self built 14yrs ago): I7-930 (no onboard graphics, no overclock) Asus P6X58D-E (updated to latest bios a couple years ago) Asus Radeon HD EAH 5850 (no overclock) 6Gb Ram HDD Win7 Home (x64) 1. I know, it's really old and I am currently planning to build a new one, will probably ask for help here eventually. 2. The situation: it powers on normally, no beeping, all fans are turning, drives makes their usual noise. Motherboard's "DRAM Led" lights up for a few seconds on startup then turns off as usual. I get no video signal to monitor. Everything seems ok inside, nothing looks burned or smells, all screws and cables look ok. This computer wasn't plugged into the internet for awhile, no Windows update for some time and the case haven't been opened in at least 5 years (no hardware changes). 3. What I tried to get a video signal back: A) Turned it on & off a bunch of times B) Tried the three different available video outputs (HDMI, Display Port, DVI) with different cables, on different monitors (all working, tested with laptops). Still no signal. C) Opened the case and dusted thoroughly with air compressor. No, I did not let any fans spin! D) Unplugged all hard drives and tried booting it, no changes. E) Took out Wi-fi card, soundblaster audio card and tried to boot, no changes. F) Took out GPU and tried booting. Obviously got no video but noticed I could turn off the computer without holding the power button for long. The only way I got to experience this difference is when the GPU is out of the case/unplugged. G) Tried installing GPU to second PCI slot, same result as before: no signal on any outputs. H) Checked motherboard button cell voltage, still good (I think) at around 3.1v. I) Unplugged and replugged most cables, same result. 4. Next steps: A friend will lend me their old GPU next week to test. Assuming that if I get a signal then my GPU is the problem. 5. Questions: A) Is there anything else I can/should test myself in the meantime? Haven't messed with the RAM or the optical drive, should I disconnect them as well and if so, what should I expect? B) Would a motherboard start beeping or give a signal if anything else was wrong? C) What's the deal with holding the power button 5 seconds to power off, why does it power down immediately only when no GPU is installed? D) I noticed the heat pipes on the GPU are getting hot relatively fast (yeah yeah, don't poke inside a running computer). Even with no signal, should a "idling" GPU heat up the pipes enough to be uncomfortable in under 30 seconds? The only assumption I have so far is that the heatsink must still be making good contact on GPU chip to soak up the heat that quickly. 6. Assumptions: A) Everything was fine for years and now isn't, assuming something is broken/burnt. B) Without HDD plugged in, same result. Assuming it isn't something wrong with OS, an update or driver. C) Got as far as "no video signal, must be a GPU issue". If anyone has any information that may help me troubleshoot this issue, I would be infinitely grateful. I will update once I tested with another GPU but I don't think it's worth it to start hunting for used LGA 1366 motherboards. I built a new pc yesterday and it has been working fine. I left it on for a while and when I got home it was still working fine. I turned it off and later tried to turn it on again and only the cpu, psu, and case fans spun up. No gpu fans, video output, or rgb. I couldn't turn it off with the power button so I flipped the switch on the psu. I just tried to turn it on again and it did the same thing. While off I tried unplugging the gpu completely and removing and putting back in the motherboard battery. It was working fine yesterday, no hardware has been swapped aside from the graphics card itself to check against one of my other known working cards once this one had failed to POST, same cables and config for the system were used for consistency and work perfectly fine with the alternative card which is a 980Ti in this case. Now when booted the GPU fan starts at full speed, displays no video output and the POST signal indicates a fault with the GPU. I'm honestly unsure how this came about or if there is anything I am able to do about it besides write the card off. Anyone have any suggestions?

I had my GPU as an eGPU already and originally thought I had usable RAM, only to find out it was DDR3, not realizing ahead of time that there's no backwards compatibility. I'm a huge LTT fan and I've been trying to learn more and more leading up to this, but now feel in over my head. I just don't know what else to do, my parts are just spread across the floor (unplugged from all power) waiting for me to have a clue what I'm doing.

So over the past few weeks/months my PC seems to have been crashing more often than it used to, however nothing so bad I did anything other than update drivers. Many of these crashes have been just freezing and not responding. The only thing I could do was hold the power button. Today, however, my PC froze once, and than twice over crashed in a way I have never seen before. The video signal was lost(screen went instantly black), the fans spun up to full speed, and even holding the power button did nothing whatsoever. I ended up just turning off my power supply. I'm starting to get worried, so I decided not to turn on my PC again before I've heard if anyone has seen this behavior before. The crashes seem to happen at random times; sometimes when running heavy games, light games, or just browsing. I have however been mining with the nicehash quickminer for maybe 2-3 weeks now. I mine 24/7 except for when gaming. I have a 2080 and a ryzen 7 2700x, in a P400s with the stock front panel with no airflow. I also only use the 2 stock fans for case cooling(replacements delayed by COVID ), so I suspect thermals and airflow are not great, however I'm not completely sure. Both of the mysterious "blackscreen" crashes happened after I started playing Liftoff(drone-sim), the most recent game I got. Also, the last of the "blackscreens" was while I was using bluestacks, which I just downloaded. I can't think of any hardware additions that happened within this timeframe. I have no idea why this would be happening, and I'm becoming worried for my PC. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hey guys, I build myself a new PC with following specs: Motherboard: ASUS TUF GAMING B550 PLUS CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X GPU: ASUS Strix GTX 1060 6GB RAM: 4x8GB 3600MHz G.Skill SSD: Samsung EVO 500GB NVMe PSU: Corsair RM850 I updated the BIOS to Version 1401. After that the PC bootet, I tried to install Windows but after the necessary reboot I won't get any video output. Not even BIOS. I tried HDMI, DisplayPort also my old ASUS Strix GTX 970 but nothing. CMOS reset also didn’t helped. Debug LED also is useless. Do you have any idea? Googling and asking all my friends with ASUS Motherboards didn’t helped either.

I am attempting to repair a Cyberpower PC for a friend. This computer has had issues almost since it was purchased. Originally it was brought to a local repair shop and they diagnosed a bad video card. They did a warranty swap with MSI and next card worked in the shop and DOA at home. Gets brought back to repair shop and guy does a graphics swap with a shop PC and both cards are working fine. Puts card back in and dies again. RMA round 2 and same scenario, 1660 works fine in other machines and other video cards work fine with Cyberpower special. Gets home and works intermittently. They have had this for over a year now and it's been in the shop more than at home. I picked it up last Friday and did a mobo swap, thinking maybe board damage on the PCIe slot. Same issue. Will work and then stop. I've updated the drivers, verified BIOS settings and it decided to stop working today. I don't want to think of what the odds would be of 3 defective video cards to the same person but that's where I am getting. I'm including a link to the original store page for the PC. Hello, i got my sister an RX 580 GPU to upgrade her old rig. The issue is that it starts fine with windows minimal Resolution and once it adjusts the Resolution/ Installs drivers the Display simply stays black. The Computer stays usable as i can shut it down with Alt+f4 and enter. It has a Fresh Windows install and the bios is also up to date. I tested the GPU in my system and that works just fine even without uninstalling the existing nvidia drivers first. Anyone got any ideas? I'm out of ideas i tried everything i knew: New windows install, new BIOS, diffrerent PCIe Slot, diffrerent monitor/ cable, install no divers at all, install drivers in safe mode Specs are: Intel core i5 2500k 12GB Ram 550W PSU AsRock RX 580 Phantom Gaming X 8GB Asus P8P67 LE Mainboard

I recently gave my perfectly working 3060 to a friend and bought a completely new 3070ti, however my system doesn't seem to work with it. On pressing the power button, rgb lights up and the other components turn on, but there's no video output and the gpu fans aren't spinning. The motherboard's "vga" led lights up red. What I've tried - Unplugging all cables - Diff monitor + cable - Diff pci e ports - With and without my ryzer cable - CMOS reset My Specs strix 3070ti 5600x kraken x63 rgb msi b550 tomahawk TX650M Corsair vengeance 16gb 3200mhz ddr4 1tb seagate m.2 3x corsair sp120 strix helios I haven't changed anything about the system other than the gpu, so it's basically impossible that a component broke. All ideas are welcome.

Hello guys. So i bought a new case for my computer. I installed my config to my new case and right now it's not working. I mean it's working but i have no video output. I checked the rams, cpu, gpu and the psu. These are working fine. When i press the power up button it goes on for 1 or 2 sec and after that reboots and starting up normally but with no signal. My config: asrock h81m-dgs r2.0, i7 4770, 16gb ram, rog strix r9 390, 120 gb ssd, 2tb hdd and a 700w psu. Before the installation everything was fine and this is not my first time in pc building or something like that. (Sorry for my bad english)

Hi guys, first post on here so might not be in the correct place. I bought a PNY GTX 970 for $50 shipped that the seller said worked fine in one PC but when they put it in their new system it didn't give any output. Figured it was a simple problem to fix and that maybe the PC just didn't recognize the GPU. I popped it into my PC to test and at first it didn't give any signal. Reseated the two six pin power connectors and it gave an output when starting the PC, SUCCESS! Installed the drivers and it seemed to work fine, downloaded userbenchmark and it black screened... it wouldn't give an output after that so I let the PC sit over night with the PSU switched off, and then it would give a signal. Sometimes "all the way into windows" but most often it would black screen on boot... I have bought a HP Z220, not delivered yet, that I was planning on putting a GPU in and flip. My first thought was that the GPU bios maybe is a bit corrupted? But my motherboard doesn't have a video out so I can't try to reflash it rn. And if a bios flash doesn't fix it what should I do? Is there any way to pass the signal through a different GPU, think the Z220 had a quadro k600, or the mobo? The Z220 has a Xeon in it so I need to replace it with a i series with integrated graphics if trying to pass it through the mobo? I am in no* way an expert but I've always liked to tinker with stuff so any advice is good advice. Can always sell the GPU and buy a new one but that wouldn't be as fun .

So I just got into pc building and wanted to build my own. and every thing was going great. My new build pc is running a gtx 1070 and a core i7 7700 K. so my system boots up fully, and every fan turns on. But the dvi cable that is sitting in my gpu didn't send any signal to my monitor. i have tried a lot of methods and none of them seems to work . I have redone every cable and have changed the ram to different slots many times. pls help me

I run the tech booth most Sunday's at my church. We already assumed something was wrong with the system because we have only owned it for about a year, and we store little to no local data on it except for some worship software, so we don't think it should be taking more than 5 minutes to boot. It's a Dell Inspiron system with what I believe is a Haswell Refresh i3, with 4 or 8 gbs of ram, a HDD, and some type of Nvidia GPU( we know that much considering the thing came with Gforce experience already installed). The GPU has a VGA port, HDMI port, and a DVI-I port. we use the main VGA port to output to the monitor, and the DVI-I port with a DVI-I to VGA adapter to output to our projector. While I was getting the power point up during morning sound, everything was working fine, everything that was supposed to have an image did. Upon returning from class, the monitor was getting no image but the projector was, with very little time to decide we just ran everything through the projector. So my assumption was the entire port was fried and we'd just need to get another cheap GPU to run the video outputs through. Anyone with any better ideas? Could it be the cable is broken in one spot and no longer sending a signal or something beyond my technical knowledge? Thanks for reading and any help or advice is welcomed.

I have a problem with my new build it. When I press to start my pc the cpu, gpu, system fans turn on normally and my ram led turns on. Then after about 3 seconds the cpu fan spins up and to max rpm. After about another 3 seconds of that my cpu fan turns off gpu fan and system fan still spin and the led of my ram stays on but I get no video output what so ever. The PC has turned on before and this began to happen since I plugged in the 2HDD's. The CPU idles at 40C and the gpu at 50C Operating System: Windows 10 - 64bit Bios Version: (The version that came with the board. (I dont know)) My specs are: Ryzen 7 3700X Aorus Pro Wifi X570 (mITX) 2x8Gb TridentZ Ram Gainward 1070ti BeQuiet Purepower 10 500W 2xSDD's and 2x7200Rpm HDD Noctua NH U12S Cpu Cooler

These are my specs: Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 Graphics Card: MSI Armor RX 570 4gb Motherboard: MSI b450m pro m2 v2 RAM: Hyperx 2x4gb 2666mhz PSU: Gigabyte 700w 80+ bronze SSD: Kingston A400 SSD - 240GB I'm having troubles with the video output. If I turn on the PC with the HDMI connected to a TV from my RX570, I get no signal and the VGA led of my motherboard turns on. If I turn on the PC without connecting the HDMI cable, the motherboard LEDs turns on and off, and the PC boots to windows normally. Then I can plug the HDMI cable and everything works properly (I did a lot of tests and benchmark an everything seems ok). If I try to start the BIOS pressing the del key without the HDMI connected (and then plugging in the cable), I get no signal. I test an old GTX 960 with this motherboard, and it worked correctly, I can enter the BIOS. I even used it to flash the latest BIOS, but the problems with the RX570 persist. Also, I test the RX570 in my old PC, and boots normally, even to the BIOS. I tried clearing the cmos removing the motherboard battery, also booting with a single stick of ram, but it doesn't fix the issue.

Hi, I recently ran into a problem where my PC won't POST and all I get are two different beep codes: When I try booting without RAM - rapid reoccurring short beeps, when I try booting with RAM inserted - 1 long and 3 short beeps. What I've tried so far: 1.Removed all components from the case 2. Reseated the GPU and reconnected all the cables from the PSU 3.Cleared CMOS 4.Tried booting without and with 1 stick of ram (also tried all of the DIMM slots) 5.Tried booting without the hard drive When I power on all fans are working correctly. I can't try to boot without the GPU because I don't have on board graphics. I tried to find the beep codes in my motherboard's manual, but I couldn't find it. Looked on Gigabyte's website, but it doesn't mention the code for reoccurring short beeps. This PC has served me well for a while now so I'm certain my CPU is compatible with my mobo. I've also tried using my spare pair of DDR3 sticks but got the same results. Heya all, A few days ago while i was playing a game my pc froze and when it responded it gave some error messages. I already tried reaseating gpu,ram,all peripherals and clearing cmos but it still doesnt give video output. One time i only had the ram, cpu, mobo and psu in and it still didnt show anything First it was stuck in a boot loop but that doesnt seem to be happening anymore. Every once in a while my mouse and keyboard lights turn off for a few seconds though. Also I know that the screen still works. when I was playing I had windows 10 installed but in the meanwhile i took out my ssd, put it in another (older) pc and reinstalled windows 8.1. I cant use the older pc for any testing because it is fairly old and probably wont be able to handle anything i put in it. I'm beginning to think that the prolem is with the bios. So my biggest question is if i can download a bios on something lika an usb and use a front header on my pc to load the bios from there. My mobo is- MSI z97 gaming 3. The mobo should have 2 bios' but I have no idea how to activate the second one If you have any other questions feel free to ask and I hope I can awnser them

heya all, i made a post earlier to ask for help with my pc that doesnt give a video output anymore. it happened when i was playing some game and ever since that there is no output. but when i took out my ram sticks i saw something with a ram slot. it looks like a notch that none of the other slots have it is kinda hard to see, but on the right side of the second slot there is what looks like some kind of contact. the mobo is - MSI z97 gaming 3 if any of you know what this might be or know that it is normal i would love to hear, thanks ahead edit: i removed all peripherals and gpu from the pc. only things in it at the moment are psu cpu, mobo and ram

So I have some problems with my newly built PC.. When I was playing games it just died, and when I tried to restart it nothing happend, monitor signals "No video input" and my mouse and keyboard isnt getting any power, they are all dead. The only thing that happens is that all the fans start spinning, but the gpu fan doesnt have a constant spin, it stops every 1-2 seconds for about 1 second. Ive tried a different gpu, ram and psu (600W), the gpu and ram were from functioning computers and the psu was bought to test. The motherboard was sent in to where I bought it from and they say it works. I have also tried every ram slot available and I tried starting the computer without ram but I didnt get any beep code. I took out the CPU and it has no bent pins that I can see. Any ideas on what it can be? My first thought was ram, psu and mobo, so unless my first psu broke and the one I bought was broken too, I only have the cpu and gpu left, the reason I still have the gpu in my thought is because the gpu we tried had the fans spinning all the time.. And what I can remember all cables were connected as they should, switched case and psu so Ive redone the cables like 4 times.. (cpu, 24-pin, pci-e and HDD..) Hi guys, I'm in trouble. I grounded myself, picked up the CPU , and was about to put it in when I hit a fan wire and dropped it. It hit the motherboard and bent the pins. I have straightened the pins so it sits easily into the socket, but while I was straightening them I touched them by accident. I used a cue tip soaked in rubbing alcohol to clean them. I booted my pc but no video output to my monitor. I tried another monitor THEN put my old CPU in and it works fine. Whats wrong? I just got this CPU today and I dont want to have just lost a nice pinch of cash. Is it DOA or my fault? I have an AMD A4-4000 APU At the moment. Help me please! I have bought a new SAPPHIRE R9 270X 2GB OC yesterday. After consulting the user manual, I was able to install the GPU on my motherboard without any problem. Upon installation, I installed the latest (14.4) Drivers which seemed to work fine for 10-15 minutes after which my PC started to lag, I got a few "display driver had stopped responding and has recovered successfully" pop up messages. My PC restarted a few times with visible distortions on the monitor. After that I got no video from my GPU and "RAM/GPU error post code" could be heard. I went back to integrated graphics, uninstalled the AMD drivers and tried again. This continued with AMD drivers provided in the CD which came with the GPU(Ver. 13.9). I tried the Ver. 13.12 and 14.7Beta Drivers to no avail. I was able to either uninstall or restore my PC to a previous state to be able to use the GPU in 1024*768 Resolution using DVI to VGA during this process. Now I am unable to get any video output in Safe Mode or otherwise with all AMD drivers uninstalled. Every time I power up my GPU, I am unable to boot as I do not get any video output from my integrated GPU or the GPU itself. My system specification is i5 4570, ASUS H87 Plus, Kingston 8 GB 1600Mhz RAM, CX430, 1TB HDD. TL;DR ~ post with no video output. Installed 3-4 different drivers when it was functional which all led to errors and no video output state. Please help me solve this problem! Thanks A lot in advance!
