Summary Japanese camera company Nikon announces that they are purchasing RED Digital Cinema and that it will become a wholly owned subsidiary. Quotes My thoughts I did not have this on my 2024 Bingo card by any longshot. That being said, I hope that Nikon does allow for others to use for instance ProRes Raw internally, and to make it easier for other companies to introduce their own raw formats as they see fit. We all know that RED was very lawsuit happy, so let's also hope that Nikon doesn't follow Reds footsteps and tries to sue anyone who even thinks about wanting to do a raw format. Can you guys recommend a good DSLR controller app for modern android that works with my third hand Nikon d40. I have the usb cable for it an otg adapter, and a phone with otg. I only need the software. Free and open source is nice but not a necessity.

Hi there, My Nikon P1000 requires a restart after a while as the HDMI feed it gives turns off sometimes and just turns to a blank nothing. My cable works fine and my capture device is a Blackmagic Design Ultrastudio Recorder 3G. I was just wondering what is going on and how I can fix it. I've set the sleep to 30 minutes, the max I can, but HDMI feed shouldn't be effected should it? The issue is that it doesn't retract the lens when it stops working, so I do not think it's sleeping entirely, I'm really unsure what is going on. Thanks, Eli Edit 1: Could it be because of this causing the issue?

I currently have an ancient Panasonic Lumix TZ10. In the family we also have a Nikon D5200 with an 18 - 55mm kit lens. I can usually take this away with me when / if I go away for a day or two, however I'm about to go on an 8 week trip over to the US and so I don't really want to borrow someone else's camera for that length of time. I had ordered a DJI Mavic Pro from Jessops (here in the UK) on finance, however I have since managed to purchase one from a different retailer. Jessops have told me that I can either cancel the finance, or use different a item/s in it's place. So I've been thinking of using the outstanding finance to purchase a new camera for myself. I usually use my TZ10 when attending shows (sports and otherwise) and concerts, as it's got a decent zoom, it's small and compact. I usually take the D5200 when going practically anywhere else, as the quality is far superior in all aspects. I've just never attempted to take a DSLR into a concert / show because I've read about the unlikelihood of being allowed to take them in. So I would like a small compact camera, good in low light, good with fast action, good zoom, whilst obviously also high quality. Portability is also big factor to take into consideration because we are going to be travelling, with that a flip-out screen would be handy but I suppose not a necessity. Video recording is something I also want to be able to do well. However I also would like the sheer quality that comes from a DSLR, it's versatility; ability to use external microphones, video recording (again), landscape photography, timelapse, etc. I'd love for this to have a better zoom than the D5200 we already have, and that brings me to the point, that if I was to get a camera of my own I'd probably like to get one that's better than the D5200. Don't really see the point in getting two of the same camera. So after days and days of research and working myself up, I had come to the conclusion it was between these cameras: Canon EOS 750D (T6I) with a 18 - 135mm IS STM lens at £799.00: http://www.jessops.com/online.store/categories/products/canon/eos-750d-digital-slr-18-135mm-is-stm-lens-95334/show.html Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II at £549.00: http://www.jessops.com/online.store/categories/products/canon/powershot-g7-x-mark-ii-digital-camera-97892/show.html I had also noticed / was considering: Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ100 at £549.00: http://www.jessops.com/online.store/categories/products/panasonic/lumix-dmc-tz100-camera-in-black-97614/show.html Panasonic Lumix DMC- FZ1000 at £589.00: http://www.jessops.com/online.store/categories/products/panasonic/lumix-dmc-fz1000-digital-bridge-camera-93162/show.html Canon PowerShot G5 X at £613.00: http://www.jessops.com/online.store/categories/products/canon/powershot-g5-x-compact-camera-97413/show.html Nikon D7100 with 18-105mm lens at £899.00: http://www.jessops.com/online.store/categories/products/nikon/d7100-digital-slr-with-18-105mm-lens-88945/show.html Now my drone was £1359, so I've got that amount to play with. With that amount I could indeed purchase both the 750D & the G7 X but then I wouldn't be able to purchase any accessories to go with the cameras which would be a basic necessity, such as a camera bag, SD cards, an SLR Gorillapod, a Rode mic, a deadcat, etc. I can go slightly over and pay in cash, but I don't really want to go much over if at all. I also can't purchase from any other stores other than Jessops.com, or at least that's the only place I can use to fulfill my finance allowance. I can't decide which route to take, which camera or cameras to get, if they're even the best deals I can get, are they the best fit for purpose. I know a little bit about photography, video editting and cameras but not enough to make an informed decision. I've already got a Go Pro Hero 5 Black, as well as my Mavic Pro, a OnePlus 3T (which my girlfriend thinks I should use instead of a compact camera, and I'm slightly kiiind-of inclined to agree), and ideally I'd love to have both a compact and a DSLR camera but I just need some help figuring out what on earth to do in this situation and I do need to make a decision in the next few days as I set off in a couple of weeks. Please help?!

I want to buy a DSLR by the beginning of May, but I dont know what to get! I have been using my friends Nikon D3300 to learn how to use it so im familiar with the nikon UI. Right now im thinking about the Nikon D5300 because it has more video capabilities and a rotatable display. I want reccomendations for cameras at 600 USD and image quality is my priority. reccomend anything! thanks!

I have been saving to buy a nice DSLR for a while now and was planning to get the Nikon D3400. But now the Nikon D5300 is on sale for the same price. Both cameras have 24.2 megapixel CMOS sensors D5300 has a bigger, rotatable, more HD screen D3400 has a fixed screen ISO on D5300 is 100 - 12800 (25600 boost) ISO on D3400 is 100 - 25600 the rest of the specs are here in a newegg comparison: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?CompareItemList=-1|9SIA29P1JA9107^9SIA29P1JA9107%2C9SIA29P5130090^9SIA29P5130090 The D5300 is 600$ at costco and comes with a bag, SD card, and 70-300 NIKKOR DX lens. Just like the D3400 on newegg Can I get advice on which camera to pick or reccomendations for another camera with high image quality for around 600$? thanks! P.S. the D5300 is from late 2014 but is better if I decide to record films in the future. For now I will use a camera for photography.

I have been using my older Nikon D5200 for video for the past while, as I know how to use it well, and I know it works. So two weeks ago I was filming an event with my D750, and I reviewed the audio afterward and it was complete trash. Popping, weird clipping, all sorts of things highly undesirable in an audio file. The audio was unusable. I was using my trusty Rode VideoMic Pro, and I had ensured that the mic cable wasn't touching the camera. I also was using manual focus, so the focus motor wasn't the problem. I had just changed the battery in the VideoMic. Now I want to get to the bottom of this, so I just tested both; D5200 with mic-fine, D5200 with onboard mic-fine, D750 with mic-gross audio, and D750 with onboard mic-fine. I always set the pre-amp on the camera to around 5-10, and use the boost on the VideoMic or when I am editing to get an acceptable volume. What am I doing wrong, or what setting must I change?

Here is the question.. It mabee seem nonsense.. WHICH IS BETTER .... CANON - NIKON - SONY !! ?? ... DSLRs !! (compare each other with its same or approx equal price range) ..... wanna know the recent DSLR's market for Canon, Nikon, Sony !!
-
Hello, so im nit sure if this category of question will work on this site but here goes. So i am recently very interested in photography and I was looking for an entry level dslr to buy and I found the nikon d3400 which came with 18-55mm and 70-300mm lens. Then i saw mirrorless and the sony a6000. The a6000 was a bit more and I want to know is it justifiable to pay more or is it better to go dslr for entry level photographer. Please help?!!!!

Hi all, I have been doing photography for a year now. People said i m really good at it so i m officially my school photographer after 5 months. Most of the time, i shoot sport (in/outdoors) but all of the lens i use are the school lens. I have a Nikon 50mm f1.8 and a sigma 18-35mm f.1.8. Although the 50mm suits for indoor sports with its fast aperture, it doesn't works when i m outside trying to do track & field or rugby. I now have a money for my own telephoto lens so i f left with two decision. A: a 70-200 f4; B. a 50-100 f1.8. Because i m shooting on a D7100 with APS-C sensor, i wont be able to get the same bokeh with 4 or 2.8 as full frame so i m really falling for the 1.8 but the focal length is what holding me back. Thanks,

Hey, I have a Sony Alpha 37 currently, and want to upgrade to a Nikon D5300. I already have two lenses for the Sony, an 18 - 55 Default lens and a SIGMA DG 70 - 300 lens. Can I use these lenses on the new Nikon using an adapter? If so which one?

Hey guys, I have a trip planned to some local mountains, and I have a shopping list for it and future trips I want to take my camera on. I have $450 to get everything I need. I need a bag, I have the Nikon kit bag that came with my camera, but I hate it, walking in the thick woods behind my house it gets stuck on everything and I have had my 55-200 fall out of it twice after getting stuck on thorns. I was thinking about a backpack style bag any suggestion would be appreciated, I know almost nothing about camera bags. I need something I can have few lens in and a way to carry a tripod or monopod and maybe a flash. If I can't afford everything I would rather just use the bad Nikon bag over not getting something else on this list. The next thing I think I need is a tripod, something to do long exposures in the middle of the wood, and that will work in a studio environment. I was looking at this https://www.amazon.com/Manfrotto-MKCOMPACTACN-BK-Compact-Action-Tripod/dp/B00L6F16L0/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1482252283&sr=8-4&keywords=manfrotto so far any other suggestions are welcomed I don't really know any other brands, I would like something cheaper, but that will hold up well. Currently, I have an amazon basic tripod I got for like $10 and lightly breathing on it blurs everything. What kind of memory cards do people tend to trust that are cheap and work with photo and video on a D3300. Just started in photography about a year ago. Trying to decide what prime to start with, crop factor has me a bit confused. The current lenses I am looking at are the Nikon AF-S FX 50mm f/1.8G Nikon AF-S DX 35mm f/1.8G I am having a problem with the 50mm and using it on a crop body I have looked up videos and if I do have it correct then the 50mm would have the same FOV as a 75mm if I do understand how this works if not then please explain or link to a video. Most of what iI shoot so far are portraits of family, As well as tech stuff like mice keyboards and plants like the photo attached. I mostly like to shoot plants and still wildlife like flowers and leafs what other lenses would be recommended. the reasons I am considering these lenses are because they seem to be lenses that everyone can make use of. I want something that produces more bokeh than my kit lens. I have a few night shots I have tried in my living room using Christmas lights in the background and I wanted nice little balls of light but instead got just a blur, should have kept the photos, but it just wasn't what I wanted.I really like when photographer separates the subject from foreground and background with bokeh/blur. also need a way to edit RAW photos from my camera, currently using ViewNx 2 anything better that is free or cheap and/or thing to look into in the future, would like to learn one that i can import from Nikon cannon or any other brand so if i switch one day i will not have to learn a new editing software. what other stuff should I add to my list filters, any suggestion I would be happy to hear. Question about public shooting. I live in the south of the united states, and in a pretty boring small town. Not much to shoot that I fell is interesting, I feel like the few times that I have found an interesting subject in public I never have my camera with me. Since I have started photography which has been about a year my camera has only left my house once, and then I felt embarrass to leave the car with it. Did anyone else do that when you got started, I feel like I don't know the appropriate time to take my camera with me. Feels like a bad question because I shouldn't care what others think unless it is friendly criticism, but I feel like people where I live would get very mad if I tried any form of street photography or even have a camera around them. Sorry for the long post, I just really enjoy this as a hobby and finally have more money to throw at it because I have really enjoyed it lately, either this of a new 1070, and I don't really play game much anymore, trying to get away from the computer and I don't want to make big buying mistakes.

Hey guys, just today I bought my first somewhat wide angle lens, i've only had 50mm lenses for my Nikon D700 and I was on a budget so I purchased an older Nikon AIS 28mm f/2.8 Series E Lens for 55 dollars which is also really clean. I can't seem to find any video's on this lens so i'm hoping you guys could tell me a little bit about it and some of it's pros and cons. Thank you so much!! Heres a photo of it!

Hey, So in case you couldn't tell by the title I'm looking for lens suggestions for my Nikon d5500 I bought recently. I currently only have the 18-55mm vrII kit lens but I find it rather limiting due to its variable aperture. Does anyone has any suggestions for a good standard zoom lens for a nikon aps-c body?

So I saw some cinematic and regular footage from Nikon D3300 on YouTube, and to be honest, Mikayla Not Impressed. (No, I'm not named Mikayla). The cameras seemed to focus on some narrow plane in the video, maybe changing gradually and all, but most of the video was blurred out of focus and this REALLY hurts my brain to have to force it to interpret that video information. I want a Low or Mid-End DSLR (or even a power shot, if those exist) equipped in such a way that this problem does not occur. I saw some Nikon D5100 footage and it was MUCH BETTER in terms of cinematic focus - most objects in the scene were detailed and not out of focus. Which I want. Any ideas? Specifically I am okay with PowerShot Cameras - the Sony RX100 III actually seems quite nice to me as strictly a camera for video and photos alone - but I am sort of bummed out at the lack of an external microphone input. So is there one for under 1K that supports external microphones AND shoot 1080 at 24fps (and preferably also able to do so at 60, 50, and 30 fps as well)? So naturally I prefer DSLR cameras with their better lenses and all - but I want one with an external mic input (where you can get an external stereo microphone to pop on the top of it or clip onto yourself). I mean the Canon T5i looks pretty good, but it didn't receive as high a score as the Nikon D3300 on Dxomark. The D3300's video seemed to have the focus problems I mentioned, but those seemed to go away in footage videos (on YouTube) with the D5100; I don't know if this was due to a better Lens or some settings tweaks or just the fact that it has better image processing. I'm pretty new to photography so if someone could explain these things, that'd be great. Also, I plan to get the camera to start up a YouTube channel for reviewing and tech, and maybe a channel for bike guides. Which I probably won't be able to get from my own money, I'll have to make crowdfunding campaigns for it - so naturally, the price appeal of something under 1000 dollars (including with accessories like tripods, batteries, chargers, SD cards, cables, microphones) will work best for those viewing the campaign. So I guess the main question is - were those setting tweaks, the lens, or the camera's internal hardware that caused those focus blurs in so many of the cinematic footage tests for the Nikon D3300 that I see on YouTube (the video about Toronto is an example)? Thanks.

Hey guys, So I bought a Nikon D3200 2 years ago in a very impulse buy when I was on vacation. I realized how much I loved videography and now make loads of videos on it. I bought a AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm F1.8G lens recently and really like it. But for video, I feel like Canon or Sony are much better options, and with my first short film project coming up, I was wondering if I should upgrade. I can sell all my gear and I will then have US$1100 to spend on a camera and lens. I feel like moving away from Nikon is the right move. Should I sell my Nikon related gear (2 kit lenses and 1 extra lens), and look for an alternative? I was thinking the Sony A6300. Or should I invest ~US$300 into lighting, better microphone etc. I have a Nikon D3200, 18-55 Non-VR Kit, The kit zoom lens (i never use it) and the previously mentioned 35mm F1.8. I own a cheap $20 mic that works ok, no lighting and 2 sets of ND and polarizing filters. Thanks!

So, i'm having some issues trying to get photos off of my camera. the camera in question is a nikon D80. When i plug the camera into my PC can't find the photos anywhere but they show up perfectly fine on the cameras display. the SD card in question (well micro SD card that's using a adaptor) used to belong in a old blackberry which was the only SD card i had at the time. I've scrubbed through all the files and i can't find the photos anywhere. The techie in me thinks that they might be stored in the camera itself but tbh i have no idea if it's even has any internal storage. I'm not very used to camera equipment so do excuse me if i'm a bit slow thanks EDIT: just found the problem

Heya! This'll basically just be a rant, so do what you will with it. I just bought a new camera, super stoked about it! Nikon D7100, found it at a good price second hand with an extra battery and battery grip. About 2 hours ago I got a text telling me I can pick it up and man do I look forward to that. But I'm also kind of low on cash atm, so my go to option was originally to just sell my old (first) camera. I've been telling myself that I wouldn't care about selling it but now I'm having second thoughts. It's a D5100 and is in as close as you can get to mint condition, was my first real camera. I will get alot of cash the coming months so it's not like I'll ruin myself or anything, have lots of saving I can "borrow" from. Although getting some extra cash just now wouldn't be bad either. I'm not sure, but the thought of letting it go kind of feels bad. Am I just being too sensitive or does it make sense?

I have been reading up on photographing the solar eclipse. I found some good articles on it. I found on Nikon's site and it recommended 900mm for shooting with a UV filter of course. Question Should I rent a nice lens from a camera shop costing 80 - 120 USD Or can I buy one of these fix zoom lens I am finding on amazon for 80 - 120 USD. They are far lower tech with manual focus and fixed zoom but It would be mine and I could find uses for it later. The article also did recommend switching to manual focus anyways. I guess I am leaning towards this because it would be mine but is it any good?
