Let me know if this is a thread better suited for the troubleshooting subforum. I am a very beginner networking DIYer so forgive me if I use the incorrect terminology. I recently moved into a new house and have COX internet service. They ran a small modem box inside my house and mounted it on the wall of my small network closet to connect the internet from the utility box to the house. From there I have the single wire from the modem running into a NetGear unmanaged 8 port switch, with the first out port going to a Nighthawk AX6000 router for Wi-Fi and the remaining ports are filled with the cables to run to the various hard wired RJ45 ports throughout the house. I used a Fluke Tone Generator and Probe kit to figure out which wire goes to each port throughout the house and labeled them accordingly. The issue that I am having is that the wired ethernet connection will randomly stop working. For example, in my home office, I had my workstation plugged into the wall outlet and one day the internet was working fine, and the very next day, it couldn't connect to internet via the ethernet cable. This has happened on 3 different wall outlets throughout the house. Any ideas? I'll snap some pics of the equipment and cables this evening to add to this post for reference.

I brought the refurbed model with one satellite speaker. The router had the orange light on vs the blue light on the satelite. The MAC address was starting with a 10, which the ISP tech told me "it's acting like a bridge". The connection is from the outside ISP provided modem to this router. There is a post here to change the DNS server. I did that, no joy there. Any help is appreciated.

Okay, so I got a NightHawk MK62 mesh network kit 2nd hand from family a while back. For the first couple months of using it, it's been okay, spare a few minor bugs. But THIS. THIS has broken the experience! So the other night, I upgraded the FW from 1.1.7.132 to 1.1.7.134. This is the result: Pausing internet for individual devices is now locked behind a f**king paywall (Screenshot 1, from the app, yes device names are blurred to avoid being doxxed), and it introduced a bug which prevents me from seeing which devices are online (as seen in screenshot 2, from the desktop control panel)!!! I know for a fact that at the moment there should be listed in the 2nd one: 1 laptop (the one I took the screenshot from) 1 satellite unit 2-3 phones 1 smart speaker, and 1 TV media player Why just those when there's more in shot 1? Well the web interface doesn't show devices not presently connected to it. I am not a tweeter, so I can't complain about it over there (the sitch looks pretty bad for them at the moment as well so...). So I decided to vent to the community here. If someone were to @ them over on Twitter though and link to this tweet, that would be great. Sometimes the only way to get a company to unf**k their mistakes is to generate lots of clout.

Coming here for help because the netgear forums are filled with so much trash. I recently upgraded my comcast internet service to 600Mbps service. Just bought a brand new netgear cm1000 modem and Nighthawk AX4 router to get the most out of these speeds. After setup I get full speeds wired from the modem. When connected to the router however I get a max of 100Mbps wired and wireless. I have turned off QoS in the router and also manually changed wifi channels. If anyone here has any other suggestions please let me know.

REPOST: STILL LOOKING FOR AN ANSWER. Important information: I have frontier internet (fiber) 500/500mbps Current router: Netgear Nighthawk X6S - Model: R7960P All tests were done on hard-wired internet mbps = megabits per second in the post above. And the direct translation I am using is 500 Mbps = 59.6 MB/second download speed. Frointer device: Arris NVG468MQ. Yes I do get a wireless signal from that device. Frontier router: Speedtest.com: D- 380.56 U-490.32 https://ibb.co/Rz3LZWh https://ibb.co/HVVT6Dc Netgear router: Speedtest.com: D- 490.28 U- 530.97 https://ibb.co/rbd0skp https://ibb.co/1MM964x Problem: So in the past whenever I downloaded games they would download at 45-55mb a second. Recently when I download games they hover around 20-30mb a second which is pretty much half as before. So I decided to try the router Frontier provided and all of a sudden downloads went back to 45-55mb a second. Obviously I want to use my Netgear router because it just simply has better wifi performance. So what am I doing wrong and how do I fix this problem?

Hello people, I need some help picking a good Router to get for me in 2020. I recently got an Asus RT-AC88U on sale. The problem, however, is it's unstable. The stock firmware was unstable, leading that the wireless connection would just disconnect for no reason at all. I got recommend using Merlin firmware, which was better, but still, I lose connection. I live in a big house, however, It's a bit old(but renovated). The problem with that is that I can't get new internet cables across the house to set up a good mesh network. I game quite a lot, however, I use a cable, so it's stable for me. I'm fine with 30-50 ping, so QoS isn't a game-breaker by me. A lot of people use wireless to people, so I need a good router to give me a good range, and having a good MU-MIMO might be a must? So all in all, I need the router to have really good coverage, and it needs to be able to handle 15 ish devices connected to it(maybe 5-7 ish at the same time). Any recommendations? What do you people use? I'm willing to pay the high-end version to fix my problem. Incredibly sorry that the post was so long..

Hey Guys!! My mum split some tea onto my Max Nighthawk X8 Cherry MX Brown Keyboard. Oddly enough USB can be recognised by the PC when plugged in. Also the microphone and Headphone extensions still work, from the Keyboard HUB. None of the Keys or Backlights turn on. I've opened up the keyboard, and kept it in front of a fan and even in a heated room for over 2-3 days, and still no positive result. - In exception to the above. So I'm in hunt for a new mechanical keyboard. My Needs are the following:- Back-lit Keys (Blue, White, Purple - Not Red). Cherry MX Red (Preferred) or Brown. Braided Cable - Wired. Numpad - Full 100% Keyboard Available in Australia. Around $200 max (give or take). (I'm steering away from MX Browns this time, to give the MX Red a shot). Let me know your thoughts, and any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Friends, My parents are buying me the https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01M3Z2YA6/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1634&creative=6738&creativeASIN=B01M3Z2YA6&linkCode=as2&tag=arteuk-21 as a present when they visit next week. I am stoked but I am confused that there aren't any 60GHz PCI cards that I can buy and throw into my many PCs & servers. Does anyone know a 60GHz PCI card that I can buy? Or am I not understanding 60GHz correctly? Do existing cards support it? Thank you for taking the time. Sincerely, -Cyrus Halcyon

So, I'm looking for a good PCIE wifi/Bluetooth card. I have a really nice nighthawk router that does 5ghz and 2.4, but I'm located all the way downstairs so the card needs to be good. Also I use Bluetooth to connect an Xbox one controller as well as PS4 controllers and my current Bluetooth USB dongle has connection issues sometimes. Can anyone recommend a good combo card? My motherboard is a Asus z87-a so I think I'm looking for a PCIE card? But I'm not sure. I would like something at least as nice as the wifi/Bluetooth in my MacBook Pro. Any suggestions would help!

Going from a Google Fiber Modem to my Netgear Nighthawk R8000, I have a 100ft CAT 7 cable. My R8000 does not recognize that anything is plugged into it. CAT 5 and 6 cables are recognized and my computer recognizes the CAT 7 cable just fine. Everything I've read online suggests CAT 7 cables should be compatible with even older CAT 5 ports. Suggestions?

So I have an old gen WD MyCloud NAS which used to be my one and all backup/Plex server. Since a few months, I almost never see that on "my network places" as the computer icon, but it's always at the "Storage devices". It has a DHCP address instead of a static (didnt know that until yesterday), My write/copy speeds are in the down 30MB/sec and never higher. Right now, I am trying to move files, almost 500GB+ and the transfer time is almost 6 hours. Is the HD in the old MyCloud, the culprit here? Also, I got myself a MyCloud Home (upgrade, wooo!) So transferring from the old to the new. That's where the speeds are low. Once it's done, can I connect the new NAS via a desktop switch? Will I still be able to "see" the device on "my network places". Any ideas for on how to tweak the settings for a faster transfer rate? My modem is from ATT (Boo!) and router is a Netgear Nighthawk (sweet!). Sorry for the most generic, basic post here. Any details needs, please let me know and I can let you all know. Thanks!

Hey guys, I was just wondering which Router you'd advise me to get in 2019. Every time family or friends visit, my Wifi is just horribly slow and even without visitors I do experience the occasional hiccup. So Ive read into this topic a little. Since im getting new internet (changed ISP, also from 4G to fiber optic) in about a week, I am also planning on a router upgrade. I've checked reviews of course and encountered various routers from Asus, Netgear (eg. Nighthawk) and so forth... What Routers do you guys have? I do game from time to time, however I'm fine with a 30-50ms ping, so I could easily ditch QoS. MU-MIMO however, seems to be the solution to my visitation speed issue - how useful is it really? What about upsides of Triband, distributing max data any given decive can "use" (so: evenly distributing apart from MIMO = simultaneously distributing function, right?) Many high end routers still come with dual cores. Should I opt for quad core and maybe "next gen wifi" - eg. Netgear Nighthawk RAX80 AX6000? Or save 200 and buy this for cheap in 4 yrs or sth. If going for dual core and current wifi gen I feel like I could easily save a hundred bucks, going for something that isnt "gamer branded". But then the product segment is so insanely enormous, everything named complex/similarly. I couldnt really find proper reviews, covering more than 2-3 aspects. Most of them felt more like an ad, texts filled with meaningless sentences like "solid for most people" "very good" "bringing lots of features to the table". Should I go for something that has a fiber optic modem included? As in, it could perform better than my future ISPs standard modem hooked up "inbetween". And a final question that I couldnt find more on online: Im using PIA VPN, since I cant run the app on lets say a smart TV or Hue/Camera/Alexa, securing my time online via configuring the VPN on a router level seems to be the solution. However, many people report extremely slow data rates or just simple incompatibility. So if any of you guys could recommend a router to me, thatd be nice, Ive been surfing for days already. (MU-MIMO, quad core?, vpn?, modem?, triband? anything I forgot?) Thanks so much for your time and greetings from Vienna, Chris

Dear all, I have been deciding about which high-end gaming router is best for me. I have looked at possibly the best two gaming routers on the consumer market: the ASUS ROG GT-AX11000 and the NETGEAR NightHawk XR700. My household contains 3 people and I live in a relatively larger house (around 500 - 600 m^2). I live in new zealand so I am quite far away from US-based servers and I want the lowest ping possible for my gaming experience. I heard that the ASUS software allows for prioritising gaming packets and I do not want any packet loss. I also download a lot of games, usually around 80Gbs each and I would prefer good speeds. Please also take into account the 60Hz channel from NETGEAR and I am not to concerned about security. Which router is more tailored to my needs? Thank you so much in advance.

I am having issues with my Netgear Nighthawk D7000 router. Wired connection is fine I get 60 download and 17 upload, which is my provided speeds. However, on wireless, no matter what device, I am getting fluctuating and slow speeds. It can drop to 0.3 download speeds. I connected to nordVpn on my phone and the speeds shot up to near the wired speeds. So I thought it must be the QOS prioritising traffic. However, the QOS is not enabled on the router. I even enabled it and tested it, then disabled it and tested it, and no change. Please help.

Hello all, I recently installed Tomato firmware on my Nighthawk X6 R8000 router. I was having issues with an older game and my NAT type being restricted constantly which Tomato was able to fix. The issue I am having now is that I have gigabit internet and I can only get 500 or so download and upload now. I was getting 950+ on the stock Netgear firmware. Is there an option that I do not know of that could be limiting it? Also QoS is disabled completely

I am about to move into an area that offers Century Link Gigabit fiber. I am moving from Comcast and have a Netgear R7000 wireless AC router. From what I gather this has the ability to run through PPPoE from the fiber to ethernet box. I have been seeing mixed comments regarding not only throughput of the router itself and the ability to turn off vLAN tagging from CL. Any insight as to this viability would be greatly appreciated. I've seen a few guides that show the vLAN tags getting changed so it is doable. However it seems this is where the total throughput on LAN drops. I'm not sure whether this is a firmware or chipset limitation. I would really love to be able to get full gigabit speeds on the LAN and not have to pay for equipment rentals.

So we recently got fiber internet. and im using the router the isp provided. So how fast should fiber be? im getting 9 down and 5 up. will this router http://www.netgear.co.nz/home/products/networking/wifi-routers/R7000.aspx improve things for me?

QoS i have it enabled. but i havent been able to create rules for specific applications that I want (mostly just my games) When promted to set it up, it asks me to enter a Start port and End port and i just stop there I found on EA forums the ports for BF3 however i did a quick google and some people have suggested Port Forwarding is BAD 1. Does QoS make any real difference? 2. Does it only work if i create specific rules for certain applications? 3. Is port forwarding bad? 4. Is there a way to give my PC priority bandwidth on my home network? Please and Thanks

Hi guys, I recently bought a Nighthawk AC1900 Smart WiFi Router and have to idea what to do. My goal is to have it running with my router that I received from Verizon. I want to still be able to accsess the TV guide and am under the impression that I need that still plugged in to get that to work. Any tips on where to go from here?

I heard that the night hawk can be a repeater as well, and i've looked up how to do it, but their is not any good websites to do so. my current router sucks, and the range doesnt quite make it. I play League competitively and i'll be hitting diamond soon. I have a router already, but i'd like to use the night hawk as a repeater and confused in the process. Can someone tell me the steps that i need to do, descriptively please, I don't know much about these kinda things. Also i have the password on the main router, and nighthawk wont let me enable repeat mode unless i have security to none. ? anyway thanks for the help guys. also i have a modem/router thats what shaw gave me. and if my new router is better then the modem/router will the new router make it faster or be able to use the 5ghz function, or does a repeater literally just only increase the range of the existing router ?

I'm looking to find a PCI-E wireless network card or a USB network adapter that would work well with a Netgear Nighthawk R7000. There have been a lot of past posts that have asked relatively the same question except I've noticed that none of them really come to a solid answer as the OP never gives additional details about their setup, so I'll try to be as detailed as possible. The desktop I would like to hook up to a wireless connection has multiple PCI-E slots and legacy PCI slots available as well as multiple unused USB 3.0 ports. I'm currently using a crappy ASUS N-13 Wireless USB adapter and have been running into stuttering issues while trying to stream 1080p content through PLEX (this computer acts as the Plex Media Server.) I only occasionally play games on this computer so a super fast latency isn't my top priority; a wireless solution that is stable and consistent would be preferable. My current internet connection is only 30 Mbps down and 3 Mbps up (lol Canadian internet), so I probably don't need anything too top-of-the-line. I was browsing around and saw that this TP-Link TL-WDN4800 wireless adapter was rated super well on amazon.com and sits at a good price point. I'm looking to spend around $50 CAD, so I would prefer the retailer be a Canadian one given that the dollar is so crappy compared to the American dollar. Given my usage, would it be beneficial to grab an AC wireless adapter or would a high-ish end wireless N one be perfectly fine? I would only really use PLEX or Xbox One game streaming over the local network and wouldn't transfer large files. Unfortunately, a wired connection isn't possible for me unless I wire CAT-6 and drill multiple holes through multiple rooms and walls which would pose too large of a hassle. I also have not considered powerline networking as a lot of people say that it's hit or miss, and I would like a solution that would work without any afterthought. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks! EDIT: I also found this ASUS PCE-N53 wireless adapter here, but the reviews online don't look too good. Any ideas? Thanks!

I have a Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 router and I am unable to connect wirelessly to it. If I plug directly in with an Ethernet cord I can connect but the lights on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz are out indicating that it is not outputting a wireless signal. When I started poking around at the settings in Netgear Genie I saw that the "Enable Wireless Router Radio" check box was unchecked and grayed out. http://puu.sh/j1Cwv/62f0ac0de8.png I I've updated to the latest firmware but the problem still continues.
