Hi. I recently "upgraded" my system from an i5-4460 to a Xeon E3-1230v3. The upgrade was going majorly well except for the fact that the Intel stock cooler would make the CPU reach 90 degrees Celsius or higher, sometimes throttling when going over. I invested in a used Noctua NH-U14S, and it was like magic how it cooled down my temps to 60 degrees max. The problem I'm having is that I benchmarked the cooler's performance using CPU-Z's Stress and Bench settings, and the CPU sticks to 3.5Ghz at idle and at load (Base clock is 3.3, Turbo is 3.7). Single Thread Stress also for some reason only reaches 3.5Ghz max. But, when I benchmark the CPU using Cinebench R23 and Blender Benchmark, the CPU goes to 3.4Ghz for 5 seconds, and then immediately sticks to 3.3Ghz for the entirety of the benchmark, going back to 3.5Ghz when done. The temps are fine at 40 degrees at idle and 60 degrees max under load. I have no idea why this is happening. I've tried turning off Intel SpeedStep Technology and the problem still persists. My power plan is at High Performance, but changing it to Balanced doesn't really change the behaviour of the CPU sticking to 3.5Ghz at idle. Any help? Edit: Prime95 torture test also has the same behaviour. CPU downclocks to a strict 3.2Ghz while torturing, and goes back up to 3.6/7 when stopped. I was wondering if the fan clips of the Noctua NH-u14S support 140mm fans because the fan used has 120mm mounting holes. I was thinking of using noctua nf-a14 industrial ppc fans instead of the current NF-f12's im using now.

I have to decide beetwen these air cooling systems. If you want to recomend others in the same price range, do it, but before tell me wich one of these two you preffer. Thank you and regards.

A couple days ago I filled out the form to get a free NM AM4-UxS from Noctua for my recently purchased NH-U14S. I've since then received 2 emails that look to be related but with a catch. Both contain attachments but 1 of them ended up in my junk folder. I haven't opened either yet & am wondering if any of y'all who've claimed the same or similar mounting hardware have been emailed by the following address when doing so. Normally I never open an email with an attachment & find it odd that there would be one when the email is titled to be a shipping confirmation. c.vodica@rascom.at

I've tried researching both of the above choices but oddly no one has compared them directly to each other. I did find some testing the NH-U14S & the past gen NH-C14, although I'm sure improvements have been made. I've also asked Noctua & they recommended the NH-U14S, but also acknowledge that the NH-C14S would cool the VRM's better. Although I'm still a little confused as to how a fan blowing through hot fins will cool the also hot board components below with hot air. On Noctua's site I did find one thing that supports their reply but there's no details explaining why. Under their TDP guidelines it ranks the NH-U14S as "95W & OC***". While the NH-C14S is "95W & OC**". More asterisks representing more overclocking headroom. This is the last thread I'll be making related to my cooling upgrade because I'm tired of researching it & should be ready to buy one of the choices soon by the end of this month.

What is the shortest ( height ) case that can accommodate a Noctua NH-U14S cppu cooler (165mm tall)? The motherboard is a mini-ITX.

As the title says, which card should I get, a 980Ti reference or ACX 2.0? I really like the reference design, but I'm worried about thermal throttling and the noise of the blower fan under load, will the reference cooler be much louder than the ACX? Options(Not in a specific order): Feel free to suggest something else if you think it's better and explain why you think it's better. (Im not doing custom water cooling loop in this case It just isn't doable in this case without modding the shizz out of it, which im not willing to do.) 1. Noctua NH-D14 After googling a while it seems to fit in the case, however: - Does the side panel close properly with it? -Yes it does. - Does the other heatsink tower come over the RAM slots so much that you can't fit Corsair Vengeance RAM under it? -The heatsink it self comes only on top of the first RAM slot from CPU socket, so yes you can use tall memory to some limit and you have to move the other fan to the other side of the cooler. - Do i need to remove the plexiglass that has the side panel fan mount? -No, but you can't have the fan installed on it at the same time no matter which way you orient the cooler. 2. Noctua NH-C14 - How much of an difference there is in terms of cooling performance compared to H100? - Does Corsair Vengeance RAM fit under it if i leave the bottom fan off? - Do i need to remove the plexiglass that has the side panel fan mount? 3. Noctua NH-U14S - It has only 1 heatsink tower and yet it seems to outperform NH-D14, is that possible? Performance graph (Source:Reply in my original post by ody133) 4. Hello, i recently built my first desktop pc, and trying to make it quiet i chose a define R4, an nh-u14s for the cpu, and a direct CU II GPU i was pretty excited about it, but once i put the rig together i felt quite disappointed by the noise level let it be clear: it's quiet. if i listen to something at low volume, or talk or whatever the noise is inaudible, but when i am in a silent environment i can hear it. it's quiet, but it's a lot louder than the laptop my high expectations come from my laptop, which happens to be pretty cool because when it idles, the noise is zero: all the fans are off, the hdd is not moving, i can't tell if it's on or off. no sound at all. no. zero. this new desktop pc, on the other side, always makes that little noise. i'm happy about the amazingly quiet state that it keeps when it goes under load, but dammit that background sound on idle bothers me. i'm writing from my laptop now, i usually use that to surf the web so that i don't have to bear the noise. my full specs are here http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/80480-%E2%82%AC1400-build-check/, i swapped the black drive for a green one i tried to open the pc to check if the cable management is too terrible, causing that noise, but i don't think that's the case, it's not so bad i checked if the noise comes from my PSU which is the only not-low-noise piece in my pc, but nope tell me guys, did i have too high expectations?

Sometimes it's "more performance", sometimes it's "new form factor", and sometimes it's "just plain better". The NH-U14S improves performance and improves compatibility at the same time. Not everyone wants a pre-filled liquid cooler. The ones that will perform better than this air cooling heatsink usually require specific cases for compatibility.

Hello, I want to buy a new cooler for my CPU. The H100i or the Noctua NH-U14S. NH-U14S: +low Noise -less performance H100i: +better performance -pump noise bothers me So which one? Is the H100i with NF-F12's the best choice? Or is the pump noise very loud so I should get the NH-U14S? Sorry for bad English I am German

Will The NH-U14s fit in a Storm scout 2 case?

So I recently purchased and installed my new Noctua NH-U14S and I've encountered a weird issue. Whenever I attempt to install the suggested 140mm secondary fan in pull, I get a weird buzzing sound. To further complicate things, I've tried installing the add on 140mm fan in push and the provided fan (the 140 with mounts like a 120) in pull, same deal. I then attempted to install both of my standard brown noctua 140's (the radiator optimized kind) and I still get this odd buzzing. I've tested each fan on its own outside of the case, and I can say with almost 100% certainty, it isn't the fans. So what gives? P.S. Slowing the fan speed down doesn't work very well, as for some reason the max you can set them to on my motherboard is 600 rpms, which is basically nothing for these fans, and even then the noise doesn't go away completely (just gets slightly quieter) I'm shocked to have this sort of an issue with a Noctua product, considering how great the fans themselves are. And the fact that they sent me a replacement AMD backplate since I lost the original fm2 backplate that came with my motherboard.
