Should I wait for the 15900k or go for the 14900k?
Jclau77 posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
Hey everyone, So I've made it my plan to go full on next gen by 2024 after recently acquiring my 4090 Strix. As of this post, I am unable to use it due to me being overseas but nevertheless, since I've gotten the most expensive part of my next gen upgrade I am starting procure funds for a full on next gen system. I am currently sitting at an 11900k and ddr4 64 gb of g skill ram (3200 mhz) and I feel that my covid Era pc that got me through college needs an update. My main concern is that the 11900k might hold my 4090 from its full potential but I digress and besides, the 11900 was such a disappointment. I only made that jump reluctantly when it got bundled up with my 3080 ti back in 2021 but anyway. I am set with two options, one I wait until Q3 of 2024 and wait for Intel to drop their 15th gen cpu and also go z890 or I can go all in and make the jump by either Q2 of 2024 and get myself the 14900k, z790 and a ddr5 set of ram. Please let me know which is the best option, any help would be appreciated! Thanks! Oh and before I forget, I mainly use my system for uni work and 4k gaming. I'm going into IT for uni next year and I'm going to be using my desktop once again to get me through it. -
Hello everyone. As the topic headline states what would you like to see Nintendo implement in their next console? Personally if it is a switch successor i would like to see a lot of improvements. All base models of the new switch (let’s call it switch 2) to be with a 720p OLED screen a) Why 720p not 1080? it is for battery life reasons. if the game runs natively on 1080p and is just downscaled to 720p while in handheld mode and has a consistent 60 FPS many people (at least those who I interact with would be willing to compromise) More Powerful Hardware: A new Nintendo Switch SHOULD be upgraded hardware capabilities, including a more powerful processor (possibly if NVidia Ada Lovelace or a custom silicone but with GDDR6 memory instead of GDDR6X (more power hungry), improved graphics performance, and increased memory capacity (from 4 to possibly 8 or 10 gigs). This would allow for better graphics, smoother gameplay, and the ability to handle more demanding games. Personal note/want: If Nintendo implements Frore Systems whisper quiet cooling solution I would be VERY impressed Docked mode as a MINIMUM of 1080p 60FPS (this is a NEED TO HAVE!!!) and possibly natively 1440p and with proper DLSS (if they go with NVidia chips) 4k 60 (this is a WANT not a need) Backwards compatibility with the original switch games (cartridge's); As someone who travels from Germany to the Netherlands and Bulgaria cartridges are a great way to trade with other people from the community therefore, for many people a buying decision would actually be "Can I play the games I already payed full price or 30% off (Nintendo's biggest deal on a physical copy of a game that I have seen) on the new console?" a) But why would you want that? Well having backwards compatibility with older titles helps both the consumers who already have a decent library of games to actually buy the new console and the game companies who WILL have incentive to keep updating the games and issue updates with improved graphics for the switch 2 (moving from 540i or 720p 30 fps to 720 60 FPS and 1080p 60 FPS and above in docked mode) Who would not want to see their Favorite Fire emblem / Xenoblade / Persona character in FHD? Improved Battery Life: Extending the battery life is always appreciated, especially for gamers who enjoy playing on the go. Enhancements in power efficiency and battery technology could lead to longer playtimes between charges Joy-Con Improvements: Addressing the drifting issue that some users have experienced with the original Joy-Con controllers would be a significant improvement (what i mean here is; CHANGE TO ELECTROMAGNETIC JOYSTICKS YOU CHEAP FUCKS), I am well aware that a single company actually holds hundreds if not thousands of patents for joystick features and it is more of a licensing issue than anything else. The above statement is also valid for the switch pro controller. In all honesty I would change the joysticks myself but my soldering skills are nonexistent and I would honestly like to see analogue buttons on the L LZ R RZ buttons. Increased Storage: A larger internal storage capacity would be beneficial (32 gigabytes is nothing!), most long term users I have interacted with find the current storage space limiting. Sure there is a DS card expansion bay but even if you get the 128gigabyte one (as most users do) at some point you will see that filled up very fast. I have most of my games on a cartridge's and I’m already half full on my external storage just from patches. Now imagine you buy mostly online, you need a patch to play a game and need to download a game and that storage fills up very quickly! Online Services and Connectivity: Enhancements to the online infrastructure, including more stable online multiplayer and a more intuitive user interface for online services, would be welcomed feature. The following is just me wanting more stuff that would inherently benefit a lot of people (basically me being greedy and spoiled) A. Multimedia Support: Incorporating multimedia features into the dock, such as the ability to play Blu-ray discs. B. Stream content from popular streaming services, would make the Switch a more well-rounded entertainment device. C. Compatibility with Older docks to play at least 1080p 60FPS games since it is HDMI 1.2 D. Improved Stability: Enhancing the stability of the dock, both in terms of physical support and durability. (ngl currently the dock feels like a very cheap plastic toy) What did I miss that you would like to see in the potential new switch console?

Summary Microsoft Flight Sim 2020 looks likely to be the first Xbox next-gen exclusive title. Due to its earlier release on PC, the game has been shown as very demanding, which could result it being the first exclusive as the Xbox One line of consoles look like it will struggle with the game. The reason why this will probably be the first one as other new titles will be on both consoles. The only other next-gen exclusive that I know of which has been confirmed is Forza Motorsport which has no confirmed launch date. It will come out in Summer 2021. Quotes My thoughts Hope this kick starts it as we have seen next to none next-gen games. Sources https://www.theverge.com/2020/12/10/22168892/microsoft-flight-simulator-xbox-release-date-announced

Look closely, very closely Source: https://www.pcgamer.com/amd-is-changing-the-type-of-cooler-it-uses-on-next-gen-graphics-cards/ I almost never notice how loud my fans are because I wear headphones and I also don't get bothered by them if I do notice. But it's still pretty cool for those that want a quiet system.

WARNING: If you hate WCCFTECH, then you may go ahead and move on to another thread because this one is an exclusive from them. Unless you have actual good discussion points to contribute to this conversation, in which case, welcome, fren!. I try to keep this short. WCCFTECH has reported getting some naming details that are really interesting. Additionally, here's pricing details associated with the upcoming NVIDIA cards based on the new watt classes. I'll end this here for now, but do have a look at the full article. I will say, this is very interesting, specially considering that AIB partners don't even know what's going on with the naming situation. Can't wait till next month for more official news! OK, wasn't going to report this, but hell, why not. Salt is a great seasoning. According to WCCFTECH, DigiTimes published a report citing an interview of Hsu Wen-Fang, chairman of Power Logic. In this interview, Wen-Fang: Further quotes: Now, I will leave the rest for you to look at if interested, but i do want to point out that I think that last quote is actually pretty on point. I certainly wouldn't be discussing "nex-gen" anything if I didn't already have it at the very least announced to the public. But that's just me. Agreed? Discuss below and let's keep it clean and profess... err... just keep it clean, ya? Source: https://wccftech.com/nvidia-next-generation-gpu-q3-18-power-logic/

So, this got posted about an hour ago from the time of writing: BUT WAIT!!! THERE'S A HUGE CATCH. This post was a miscommunication between the writer of the article and the sources he spoke to. At the top of the article, he corrects this with: So why even post this? So that nobody here gets overly excited to then be utterly crushed and also to elaborate on the volatility of the tech news that are still going on regarding the next gen GPUs. I'd like emphasize that the salt trucks need to make stops in everything you read out there until official announcements. Who else was disappointed about the news from the GTC conference? Anyone have any news or speculations to share. =)

Okay console gamers which would you prefer to have. A higher detailed larger resolution game, but at a reduced frame rate. Or Higher frame rate and a less detailed game at a higher frame rate? now of cause if you had wanted both you should have chosen the glorious pc master race.

Title says it all, the gtx 980 ti is really tempting but do you think it would be wise to wait for the next generation of cards to come out. I would normally say that if you keep waiting for the next thing, you'll never get anything but the rumours say Pascal is going to be really big so what do you guys think?

So, many gamers are talking about the die-shrinks and the new tech and everything. But when is that all going to happen? Well, according to WCCFTech, Fudzilla, ExtremeTech, and many others, that is all scheduled for next year. I first saw AMD was scheduled for Arctic Islands or r9 400 series in 2016. Will include HBM2 and will be built on a 14/16 nm die. Then I saw NVDAs article with the same tune. The thing is, AMD is going to have priority to the HBM2 access, and NVDA second. Still, both are going to get it. But, here is the question: Which do you think will win in performance? I prefer to think that it will be AMD because they are the ones who have the first and only HBM GPU on the market now. They were also the ones who co-developed HBM, so I expect they will know more about it in general. But that is just speculation... What say you, gamers, enthusiasts and 'PC master race' peoples? EDIT: see second post of mine before posting.

This is a question that has been thought about. Should next-gen consoles come with built in dust-filters? We've all seen the problems associated with the last-gen consoles including the overheating on both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. This led to people having to open up their consoles, void the warranty, and clean out the dust, but what if filters came built into the system? I imagine these filters would be on the intakes of the consoles and the screw for removing them hidden under a plastic cover on the outside of the console. This would make it so users can simple remove cover, unscrew a single screw and pull out the dust filter for cleaning. Benefits: -Less dust on the consoles components. -Better cooling (If the filters are cleaned every 6 months) -Longer lifespan Drawbacks: -Users won't know this filter exists. -Could clog if uncleaned for years. Is this a good or bad idea?

Hi guys, not sure if this is the right topic to put this under, but I have a suggestion for a video I'd like to see from LMG. In a lot of recent games, video memory has played a huge role in performance and playability at high settings. I have SLI 780s, and it seems like I can't max out most new releases, not because of lack of horsepower, but because of the 3gb frame-buffer on my cards. I get a lot of stutter, and sometimes ridiculously low frame-rates, simply by upping the texture resolution one notch, or turning on AA. VRAM usage pins to 100%, and I can't play the game. This got me thinking, how would faster storage effect minimum frame-rates and stuttering in games in scenarios like this? Obviously it's not ideal, but I think it would be an interesting video, to see if installing games on SSDs does actually make a difference in situations where assets have to be read from the disk. What do you guys think? Or have you even tried this yourselves? Thanks

Hello and welcome to the LTT Build-Off, Week 4! This week's challenge is to build something to convert people from the "next-gen" consoles to PC gaming for $550 (No elitist ideology required). A twist this week is that you do not need a monitor or speakers, because a console would be hooked up to your TV. You can opt for a KB + M, or a controller, or both (and this is part of the price). Make sure that this PC is something you would want in your living room. A tower case with LED lighting may not be the best choice... As always, the rules can be found here. This contest will run from Friday the 2nd to Tuesday the 6th, with voting on the 7th and 8th. May the odds be ever in your favor! UPDATE Aug. 9th 2013: @tk421 is the winner! Thank you to everyone who participated and voted. The next contest can be found here.

In the sea of disappointment that the Xbox one reveal seems to have caused, I guess it's nice to have a laugh as current gen XBox Kinect users have their XBox stop and listen to commands from the livestream itself . http://www.polygon.com/2013/5/21/4353010/kinect-trouble-xbox-one-reveal?utm_source=feedly

BM has demonstrated a new type of memory technology that the company believes could one day bea replacement for NAND flash. The company’s Theseus Project (conducted in cooperation with the University of Patras in Greece) is the first attempt to combine phase change memory, conventional NAND, and DRAM on a single controller. The result? A hybridized storage solution that outperforms PCIe-based SSDs by between 12 and275 times. The physics of phase change Phase change memory is one of a number of alternative memory structures that’s beenproposed as a replacement for NAND. Phase change memory works by rapidly heating chalcogenide glass, shifting it between its crystalline and amorphous state. In its amorphous state (read as a binary 0), the structure has very high resistance, while in its crystalline state (binary 1) resistance is quite low. Phase change memory can quickly shift between the two states, plus research from Intel and Micron have demonstrated the feasibility of intermediate states, which allows two bits of information to be stored per cell. Phase change memory has much lower latency than NAND, much faster read/write times (in theory), and it can withstand millions of write cycles as compared to 30,000 with high-end SLC NAND and as few as 1,000 with TLC NAND. Even better, it’s well positioned compared to other theoretical memory devices. Even so, NAND flash has enormous economies of scale and billions invested in fab plants across the world. What IBM has done with Theseus is to incorporate a small amount of PCM into a hybrid structure where its ultra-low-latency characteristics can be effectively leveraged. This chart shows the various areas where IBM believes phase change memory could be useful. Note that in many cases, the PCM is being integrated either as a cache solution or as an additional tier of storage between NAND and DRAM, just as NAND is often integrated between DRAM and a conventional hard drive. Project Theseus is an aggregate controller featuring what appears to be 2.8GB of PCM (36 128Mbit cells per card, 5 cards total). IBM calls this its PSS (Prototype Storage Solution). The advantages of PCM are illustrated in the slides above. These graphs show the total latency for various types of requests. Note that the PSS solution (that’s the PCM card) completes the overwhelming majority of its requests in under 500 microseconds. The two MLC solutions top out at 14,000 and 20,000 microseconds compared to 2,000 microseconds for the PSS, while the TLC NAND is an order of magnitude slower, topping out at 120,000 microseconds. In short, these early PCMs, built on 90nm CMOS and at extremely low density (modern NAND flash is now available in 512Gbit sizes compared to 128Mbit for PCM) is a full order of magnitude faster than commercial NAND, with vastly superior write performance and data longevity. There’s just one little problem IBM makes a point of noting that its PSS solution uses 90nm memory produced by Micron. The only problem? Micron gave notice earlier this year that it was cancelling all of its PCM production and pulling out of the industry. While it left open the door to revisiting the memory tech at some point in the future, it indicated that the superior scaling of 3D NAND was a better option (despite the numerous problems identified with that technology in the short term). Where does this leave PCM? The 2013 ITRS report notes that NAND performance isn’t actually expected to increase much from present levels — in fact, it’s going to be difficult to maintain current NAND performance while improving density and holding write endurance constant. Right now, PCM is the most promising next-generation memory technology on the market — but if no one steps forward to manufacture it, it’s going to be a tough sell. (source: Extreme Tech )

Long time reader, first time posting with this account, the one associated to my YouTube channel. I'm not the best writer but i love making videos so I hope you guys enjoy. With the release of the PlayStation 4 touting "rich, high-fidelity graphics and deeply immersive experiences" I think it's time we tale a look at how these graphics compare to the previous-gen experience and a high end PC. Battlefield 4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdSTmVxJzq8 Call of Duty: Ghosts This is my first time making videos of this kind, there are a few mistakes but i think it will help you understand just how improved or lacking the graphics are on the PlayStation 4.
