Budget : not as important as it should be, I plan on building the PC over a few months with good parts but not to overkill Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Games: starcitizen, modded Arma3, Huntshowdown, Space engineers, DCS, Halo, Modded cities skylines. Other details Im running a hp victus 16 with a AMD Ryzen 5 5600H cpu and a RTX 3050gpu, crucial 32gb ddr4 2400 MHz and a 500g SK hynix pc7 SSD as well as Samsung 1t 970 SSD And im looking for more out of gaming. the laptop runs most if not all types of games i want to play, however this is with most settings turned down or off completely depending on the game/mod of course. im looking to upgrade but not go overborad with it all. ive got plenty of time to build and pick out the right parts just dont know how to go about it. I know for a fact i want to push for the next gen tech with 4.0 SSD and 5.0 options so that the computer has a chance to be great for next 5, 10 years if possible. im also unsure of what graphics card to buy as well. it really dosnt matter to have full raytracing or anything major like that i just want to turn the icandy on when i want to and still get above 60 fps heres a link to PCpartpicker of the parts that ive chosen based off of multiple 4.0 SSD slots/ other new techs https://pcpartpicker.com/list/yhthsL

I'm currently running two machines with X570 architecture, one a 3900x and the other a 3600x. My plan was to move the 3900X to the 3600 machine & replace the 3900 with the next gen processor. I have an Aorus X570 Elite mobo (and aside from upgrading to the Pro) has anyone heard anything about the reqs for the next gen? New mobos, backwards compatibility, or anything in that neighborhood?

I'm looking forward to buying a new laptop, as my MSI GT660 is starting to feel the age. However, i'm not sure if I should just pick one up now, or wait for next years laptops, as i'm not sure what intel and nvidia has in store for the next generation of products. Anyone know if theres any rumors or general info of what MAY be coming out? Is it worth waiting for? I do want something not too thick like the GT660... and i dont mind spending extra for something good, its just, i dont wana buy something now, and regret it next year, or end of year, if something amazing comes out. thanks in advanced.

Hey guys, so I have been out of the PC scene for a while till recently. Its amazing to see how large and frequent the strides in technology development is and I'm proud to be a part of it as it grows. Recently, I was selling my RAM kit to get some better ones and a guy reached out asking for a ridiculously low price because 1. It was was used (2mo) and 2. DDR5 is coming soon and it will outperform. This has the chance to come off as naive or un-knowledgeable but that was my past couple years in the tech field. My understanding of DDR5 is that it hasn't been finalized enough to take onto mainstream and especially because DDR4 is doing so well. But the guy insisted it was coming soon and ultimately I refused to sell a Corsair 16gb 3000Mhz Cl15 kit for 80 bucks. So my question to you guys is, is DDR5 to be expected soon? Wouldn't that mean you will indefinitely need a new CPU-Mobo combo to make use of it? Are there any chances of it having backward compatibility? Will DDR4 drop in price even more so, regardless of DDR5 and if it does come out, can we expect a dramatic drop? Leave your thoughts below please, looking to get as much insight as I can absorb lol Thanks!

Hey So I was thinking about upgrading my cpu and mobo. Currently - MSI B450-M Gaming Plus + Ryzen 5 2600 Thing is, I don't think I need the upgrade to Zen 2 as of now, and all of Intels products carry a huge premium (mobo, cooler). Rest of the Specs - 16Gb 2933Mhz C15 Ram and GTX 1080 2100Mhz Ryzen 3000 is better than my current chip but were talking about cpu performance increases which only give ~20% frames increase max on avg. For that, its not worth the price right? My idea now is to wait to see what Intel comes up with in response next year and get that. I can hope that they will be cheaper because of the competition and faster than AMD as we already see right? What are your thoughts on this? Will Intel's next lineup be the right choice? Will their "intel premium" be reduced because of the competition? Can we hope for AMD to beat them in gaming performance or will Intel never be dethroned? Could use your opinions and thoughts on this to further my understanding. Thank you!

Since everyone seems to be upgrading to Ryzen 6 & 8 core CPU's to get prepared for next gen, I was thinking if I should upgrade or still wait for another generation or two. I currently not really sure because I turned more into a casual gamer and are also very budget oriented. Therefore I would only like to upgrade, if it is really needed and makes a big enough difference to justify the price of switching out all the parts. I play games in 1080p with 60 FPS and lowest settings I would go for keeping 60 FPS are medium graphics. I checked out several benchmarks and saw that there is currently not that much of a difference in most of the games, except very multicore CPU demanding ones like AC or Battlefield V, but that will probably change once the new consoles come out. The only games I have and where I noticed some CPU bottlenecking are a little bit in Star Wars Battlefront 2 & a lot in Battlefield V, where the FPS can drop below 60 from time to time, when the CPU is hitting high usage over 90% and causing the GPU usage to drop a lot. On one hand I would like to wait until more games are affected, but on the other hand I would like to be prepared and also make use of the current worth of my old parts, making the upgrade a little less expensive. ---------------------------- Since MSI is currently having a cashback deal, it would be in my budget of 430€ to upgrade to a Ryzen 3600 non X on a MSI X470 Gaming Plus Max, where I would get back 50€ for buying the board with that specific CPU. The total upgrade would cost me around: 168€ - Ryzen 3600 110€ - MSI X470 Gaming Plus Max 70-90€ - 16GB DDR4 RAM @ 3200 Mhz = 368€ minus the 50€ cashback making it "only" ~ 318€ Selling my old PC parts, which would get me around 100-130€ on Ebay, will make it "only" a ~ 200€ expensive upgrade. My current system: CPU - Intel Xeon E3-1230 V3 @ 3.3 GHz (Stock) GPU - 8GB Sapphire Radeon RX 580 Nitro+ MB - GIGABYTE - GA-H87-HD3 RAM - 16GB RAM @ 1600 Mhz PSU - Be quiet! My little brother is wanting to get his gaming PC built and I have been putting it off for a while now. He'll be taking my old setup (RAM, MB, CPU and AIO) and I'll be upgrading those components accordingly. After some thinking and discussions with you guys on LTT, I'm stuck on what to do. Go with the 8700k now and be done with it or wait for the next gen CPU in September. Now I am only considering going to the next gen for one reason. The possibility that the next gen CPU will not have tooth paste and will instead be soldered, or at the very least have better thermal performance than the chips have currently. I've already purchased the Z370 MB, RAM and AIO (I can return them) and am not even sure the RAM and AIO will fit a Z390 MB anyway should I keep them until the fall. Do you think it would be worth waiting for next gen or should I just go for it now? Current Build: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/TpnvZR

So Microsoft mentioned in that over-the-top (kind of Hooli-ish) commercial for Scorpio that it will have an 8 core CPU. I remember Linus (or somebody) saying that game devs are still having trouble utilizing quad cores. Is this marketing or "future-proofing?" Or something else entirely?

This PC is to compete with the next gen consoles It is $530 without the monitor PC parts picker list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/q9Js99 I have a couple questions... WHAT IS THE CHIPSET for the FD8320FRHKBOX CPU? is there any cheap 8gb ddr5 RAM? (just wondering because that is what the ps4 has) Also is there any better case for cheaper?

So I was thinking last night about the next generation of graphics cards and what they will bring to the table in regards to gaming performance. My thoughts on this is that we have come to a lull meaning that the next top tear of graphics cards will only slightly better the performance our current top cards such as the Titan x and 980ti I'm talking 2-5 fps improvement. If this was the case that would make the graphical performance between cards considered to be high end and cards that would then be thought of as lower to mid range cards (gtx 970) very small. This is just my expectation for the next generation of 14nm cards what do you think, will we be seeing truly next generation cards or have we come to a temporary stand still till newer technologies come to light.

If Nvidia's beastly new Titan X graphics card wows you—and it should—well, hold onto your pants: The company said it's next-gen GPU technology, codenamed Pascal, will offer roughly ten times the performance of the Titan X, at least in compute tasks. http://www.pcworld.com/article/2898175/nvidias-next-gen-pascal-gpu-will-offer-10x-the-performance-of-titan-x-8-way-sli.html

NCIX: http://bit.ly/1yxvlt3 Amazon: http://geni.us/1uKJ The Fractal Design Define R4 is a phenomenal case that has done such a good job of staying relevant since it first came out in 2012 that Linus has determined that he needs to unbox it once per year!

So I'm using an old graphics card and I'm unable to play next gen games at the moment. I want to upgrade it, but I don't know what to choose. I can afford a GPU for around $150. My current PC specs: Motherboard: Gigabyte H61M-S2-B3 CPU: Intel Core i3-2100 (3.10GHz) RAM: 4GB GPU: ASUS GeForce GT 430 PSU: 400W Or maybe i should upgrade whole pc? Thanks

Hi, How do you feel about next gen? It's 2015, DDR4 prices will drop, new GPUs, new CPUs.... All incoming this year! I make up this build : here and was thinking on start saving for it. What you guys think of it? I allready got some parts from my computer (2 1/2 years old and still running fast), but the next upgrade i make it will be for newer parts, and possible to upgrade for parts 2015++.

Hello everyone, i'm planing to do a build with a i5 4460, but i'm hesitating between two gpu : Gigabyte GTX 960 and ASUS R9 380 I heard that the R9 380 was a rebrand, so quite old, but it out preforms the gtx 960 The gtx 960 has a higher clock speed 1241 vs 950 Mhz, and as i heard overclocks better, and keeps cooler, but gets "weaker" than the gtx 960 Both Cards are the 4gb Model !!! And are nearly the same price point app. 250 Thanks a lot in advance !!!!!

Tossing up between getting a GTX970 now or waiting for the newer pascal 1000 series cards. I haven't really been keeping up with hardware for a while but with starwars battlefront and fallout 4 coming its time to upgrade my very slow gtx 560. The biggest deciding factor is basically will the new Nvidia GPUs be out by the end of the year in time for game season? with the 970 already 9 months old and I dont really need the horsepower until November. On the other hand my ever growing pile of shame which is mostly only playable on mid settings (it just makes me wanna cry) wont be getting any smaller without an upgrade. Sorry if its a basic question but theres very little info out there, some saying pascal in 2016, some "by 2016" Thanks

This is a question that has been thought about. Should next-gen consoles come with built in dust-filters? We've all seen the problems associated with the last-gen consoles including the overheating on both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. This led to people having to open up their consoles, void the warranty, and clean out the dust, but what if filters came built into the system? I imagine these filters would be on the intakes of the consoles and the screw for removing them hidden under a plastic cover on the outside of the console. This would make it so users can simple remove cover, unscrew a single screw and pull out the dust filter for cleaning. Benefits: -Less dust on the consoles components. -Better cooling (If the filters are cleaned every 6 months) -Longer lifespan Drawbacks: -Users won't know this filter exists. -Could clog if uncleaned for years. Is this a good or bad idea?

iv seen a lot of new games coming out having the recommended CPU be the fx-8350 and iv heard that since the new consoles have an 8 core CPU that games with start to take advantage of more cores. so do you think it would be worth the $170 to upgrade to help future proof it? Also do you think my fx-6300 is bottle-necking my current rig? My specs are: GPU- GIGABYTE WINDFORCE GHz edition 780 CPU-FX-6300 RAM- 8GB MOBO- ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 and an aftermarket air cooled heatsink(forgot the model). Thanks for any help guys

Ok, so here's the deal. I am a college student living at home and doing many hardcore classes. So not much time for a job. The money that I do run across I try to save for the most essential computer upgrades/additions to a computer I have been working on for quite a while. I have a feeling that I will not be able to save enough money to get a new CPU on top of getting a new GPU for my system. Here are my current system specs. Intel Core 2 Extreme qx9650 // was given to me by an Intel employee 4gb of crucial ram //will be upgrading to eight Intel DP43BF Classic series motherboard // I realize the CPU is not rated for it. The plan would be to upgrade to Intel DP45SG board for overclocking ability. PNY Nvidia GT 630 2gb // I would really like to get a GTX 970 as and upgrade. I know the PCIe connection is different, but I also know that there is not much, if any performance difference AS OF NOW between PCIe 2.0 and 3.0 LEPATEK 600watt PSU My question is this, assuming I did the upgrades listed with whatever money I was miraculously able to scrounge up, how well would the qx9650 hold up in today's modern games? My thought is that it would at least do decently. It has 4 cores 12mb of cache and is clocked a 3ghz. With the addition of the new motherboard I will be able to overclock it to around 3.7ghz comfortably on air cooling. What do you guys think? List some games you would think it would struggle in if you think it would not do well. Would the overclock help significantly? Be honest guys, I need to know what I am in for as I know I will probably not get around to replacing the CPU for a while. My main goal is that I would at least like to be able to break the 30fps mark at 1080p in Star Citizen once the full release is out. As a frame of reference I have been able to play BF3 with my current system a little above 30 fps at 900p and all 4 cores at 80% CPU usage, not overclocked.
