Hi there, Building a new computer and it's not bootin. First, I built it and put it in the case, and plugged everything in. PSU started clicking noises and the case fans would turn on and off so they weren't spinning just basically going back and then forth, the CPU and GPU fans were however fully spinning. I removed the motherboard from the case and psu to check it out. Discovered I plugged the wrong motherboard cable into psu (should've used the smaller one). When I did this the motherboard light turned on but the CPU and GPU fans were not spinning. When I hooked it up to my display and keyboard there was nothing coming from the computer. It was not booting. I theorize I might have shorted the motherboard somehow, but I'm hoping I didn't fuh it up that bad. Im using a 5600x with the Asus tuf b520m wifi as well as an Asus 4060ti. I appreciate any help or insight thanks

The budget is ideally around $1300 Australian dollars ( Up to $1500 max). Will probably be used for music software, gaming and work on 1080p 165fps with medium to high settings. Mixcraft 9 (Music software), Fortnite and Minecraft. Has to have at least 500gb of SSD storage and 16gb of RAM. Motherboard with at least 4 RAM slots for future upgrades. No preference for the case size. Ideally no HDD drive. Aesthetics don't matter for this build. Looking for upcoming sales. Will build soon. Starting fresh upgrading from a laptop. Monitor and operating system are bought separately and aren't needed on this list. Don't need any extra peripherals. Any help would be greatly appreciated Thank you, Carl

I would like to build my first pc, and have been saving up for a few years now. I put together this pc, but would like to hear some more qualified people opinion on it. Im also not entirely sure which companys gpu, storage, and psu I should use. I dont mind spending a little extra on rgb just not crazy amounts. I will mostly use the pc for heavy gaming and school work. It would also be nice to know which parts I should upgrade in the future. Thank you for the helpful feedback in advance! Budget (including currency): 1700-1800€ (willing to go up to 2000€) Country: Germany Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Mostly simulation and strategy games: Stellaris, CK3, Cities, SC2. Also, some light photo editing with Lightroom and Photoshop. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I've been using Cloud gaming with Shadow and GeforceNow the last couple years but performance worsened recently and I'm not willing to keep paying 30+€/monthly. For more demanding games like Horizon, Cyberpunk, Ghost of Tsushima I've used my PS5. I have an 1080p Ultrawide and will be getting 2x 4K standard monitors (soon). AFAIR they are all 90Hz. PCPartPicker Part List: https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/QKvZgb CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7700X 4.5 GHz 8-Core Processor (€327.99 @ Mindfactory) CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 50.5 CFM CPU Cooler (€69.90 @ Amazon Deutschland) Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX B650E-I GAMING WIFI Mini ITX AM5 Motherboard (€280.24 @ Amazon Deutschland) Memory: Corsair Vengeance 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-5600 CL36 Memory (€99.99 @ Amazon Deutschland) Storage: Samsung 980 Pro 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive (€69.90 @ Amazon Deutschland) Video Card: Gigabyte WINDFORCE OC GeForce RTX 4070 12 GB Video Card (€647.99 @ Mindfactory) Case: Fractal Design Torrent Nano RGB Mini ITX Tower Case (€103.89 @ notebooksbilliger.de) Power Supply: Corsair RM750e (2023) 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply (€117.21 @ Amazon Deutschland) Total: €1717.11 Remarks CPU: I was looking into replacing it with a 13600K but it looks like the ITX mainboards for Intel are more expensive for similar feature set. CPU Cooler: The Dark Rock Pro 4 is very big for that case. I watched some video and it barely fits. Considering this recent LTT video a single tower cooler should be fine. I'm open to suggestions. The Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black Edition looks fine and not too expensive. Mainboard: I did want to get a M.2 Gen5 slot for later on but Gen5 SSD's are too expensive for now. Case: I definitely want a small case and the Torrent Nano looks cool and is small. I was also looking into Micro ATX size but the price difference wasn't that big. I'll be happy for any suggestions for improvement.

Hello, forum I currently have a problem with my new PC, which is running single 16 GB RAM Stick (new ones on the way), because the other stick was seemingly a bad stick. (read below for long explanation) The PC as stated has 16 GB 5600 MHz in it currently, but i have an issue of it using so much RAM. Out of the 16 GB, its almost always at 90% utilisation or around 15GB usage. But i dont understand how thats possible when i cant find the cause. I found windows to be using in the systems eyes 30-40% of my RAM, but that aparently in systems eyes translates to 800-1500 MB???? The PC works, but games has understandebly been affected by the PC deepthroating it self with RAM... I could really use some assistence. Although i am hoping its gonna be fixed with new RAM. Full story: So TDLR. I wasted so much time and efford. troubleshooting MB when RAM was most likely the only issue. But now my PC is eating ram like it was candy and there was no tomorrow.

Hello! My old PC broke down after a few days and I have a tight budget on a new one, ( UK ). I do not need a CPU as I already have a decent intel 7th gen and I do not need a case. My current basket on amazon.co.uk/PCPartpicker: Case Fans: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08FM933ZJ/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A3STHAF5JJFW9X&psc=1 CPU Cooler: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01MSD39CN/ref=ox_sc_act_image_3?smid=A2AQP0ZOWQKJQ2&psc=1 RAM: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07B2Y1N8B/ref=ox_sc_act_image_2?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&psc=1 MOBO: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08B1TDFVT/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&th=1 PSU: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01127D0MY/ref=ox_sc_act_title_6?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&psc=1 SSD: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B086BGWNY8/ref=ox_sc_act_image_5?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&psc=1 And the GPU Must be comparible in performance to a 960/970. Would be appreciated if could find better parts for the price, only things I would keep are the fact that the motherboard has wifi, and it has HDMI from the cpu and it has an M.2 drive slot. Many thanks - DCR!

newpcbuild Where do I go for some advice on building a new pc?
-Dan- posted a topic in General Discussion
I know I'm very late to the game, but I've just discovered LTT and am getting the itch to build my own computer again. But I'm looking for a plain-Jane non-gaming - but customized - configuration. Most builds are high-end gaming boxes with lots of LEDs, etc. I don't need all that. I'm a retired IT guy who built a couple computers years (actually, decades) ago. And (hold on now...) I'm not a gamer. I only use my computer for some personal web development (HTML, CSS, JS, PHP, and tad of Python), some minor video editing, and the normal email, word processing, spreadsheet, music, web surfing, etc. I've been on a higher end laptop (Dell) for about 4 years now, but have become increasingly frustrated with its monitor limitation and other minor limitations (USB ports, audio/mic/headphone options). I've been too far away for too long to have a go at this on my own - specifically, wisely choosing the individual components. I plan on keeping a new computer for quite a while, so money isn't (too) limited - but of course, I don't want to overspend or overbuild either. Where should I go in the LTT Forums to look for help? Thanks so much for any advice. -Dan- -

Budget (including currency): ~2000€-2300€ Country: Austria Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Mostly Indie Games but I'd like to run some AAA Titles cranked from time to time aswell. Other details: So first the Part list I've come up with.: Intel® Core™ i7-11700 MSI MPG Z590 GAMING PLUS G.Skill DIMM 32 GB DDR4-4400 Kit Thermaltake V200 TG RGB NZXT Kraken X73 360mm Samsung 970 EVO Plus 250GB Gigabyte Geforce RTX 3060 Vision OC 12G LHR be quiet! Straight Power 11cm 850W I need some advice if I've made any Mistakes in picking the parts. Or maybe I am overspending on something. So you might notice I've gone with a 11700 instead of a 11700K, that's because I do not intend to overclock it so it should be fine? Also I am planning on salvaging my existing 8TB external HDD, so I only need the SSD as a Boot drive. I intend to be playing on 3x 1080p Monitors. Although I will upgrade in the Future. I will never play on all three simultanously I'll just use two of them for Discord or my Browser. I hope I've said everything. Any help is apreciated. Also sorry for my bad English. :D

Budget (including currency): 30000 NOK excl tax. / ca 3000 Euro Country: Norway Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Semi professional to professional 3D modeling digital construction + gaming. Most demanding task: RENDERING big buildings. Other details: Running 2 AOC CQ32G1 monitors. 1440p 144hz 1ms, Sennheiser headset, Logitech mouse and keyboard. Hi! I'm a fulltime student at BIM, 3D modelling architecture. I have a small business on the side, and plan to work fulltime for my self after my education. My current PC is mostly from 2009, but runs perfectly for what I've needed it for till now. Working on bigger projects I start to get problems, and rendering is just hopeless. Current PC specs: MBOARD: ASUS Rampage ||| Extreme CPU: Intel i7 930 COOLING: Fluid corsair 120mm radiator, dual push pull. RAM: DDR3 22GB corsair vengance 8+8 and some old stuff. GPU: NVIDIA Geforce GTX Titan Black Edition 6GB STORAGE: Corsair MP510 960GB NVME m2 2280 + SSD for OS PCU: HX850 OS: 64x Windows 10 Home CASE: Corsair 800D Attached a photo of my picked list on pcpartpicker. LINK : https://pcpartpicker.com/list/V3dwTJ Now this is my first ever full build of a computer, I've aided a friend in getting his computer, and I've upgraded the ram, storage and GPU on my current PC. There are so many numbers and specs on pc items that I'm not really sure if my list is good/ok or could be better. Would really appreciate some help and I will try to get most of the items on Black Week, Cyber monday. Im 100% certain that I want the 12900K and pretty certain I want the Arctic LF 360. In LTT tests it showed that the CPU get really hot, and in GN tests he used this cooler and the temps was very acceptable under high loads. Also, Im pretty sure I want the Be Silent case. Can get that for alot cheaper then what PC picker suggest. I already have the Corsair MP510 1tb NVME. Dont mind blowing the budget a little bit, since its gonna be a PC that generates income. But will try to get within 3000Euro Ex tax. Things im most uncertain about is if the Motherboard suits my needs. I have decided to go for DDR4. I'll rather get DDR5 or 6 in my next pc upgrade, cause I need a new PC now. I would like to be able to get 128gb ram in case I would need more than 64, though I doubt that at the moment. Is there things to watch out for, if another MBoard comes on sale, do I only need to see that it is DDR4 128GB, PCI4, LGA 1700 compatible? or is there something else I should be on the lookout for? I might go for 3600mhz RAM if I can find it for an ok price. Dont see a good reason to go higher with my need and setup.? Also got no clue about PCUs, only that I should have a little more power then recquired. PCpicker suggest 654W, so I thought 850W would be good, only upgrades I could really see me doing is adding more Storage NVME or SSD, and possibly adding 64 more GB of ram. With some upgrades I was considering the PCpicker suggested around 750W. Also what GPU I get could vary alot. GPU's are hard to get atm, but haven't they been hard to get for at least a year? Will this get better within first half of 2022? I believe I could manage on my GTX titan black 6GB for a little longer if there is any reason to wait, but also dont want to just indefinetly push it, since the VRAM has impact on my rendering work I believe. Is it mostly better to go for 16GB Vram than 12 GB Vram? Is it smart to have a NVME 250GB for the OS, or is this abundant? Sata SSD is much cheaper, but the speed of NVME is so good, would believe it helps with the OS? Will probably get a MBoard with 3 M.2 slots. Will W11 possibly get alot heavier than W10 ? The Case is big enough for my new PC and I like the 800D, but I'm not sure if there is really enough airflow for this 12900k HOT cpu. Since it only have back and top fans. Also, it is humongous! Now, I wont get much money for selling my current PC altough it runs fine, for instance I cant download AOE4 cause my system is too old, dont know what other games this affects as I mostly play old games like AOE2, 7Days, Dota. What would you do with it? The GPU is the most valuable piece, can get around 250Euro on the used marked at home. Would you sell it, or maybe set it to mine for coins? Believe the MBoard fits 4 GPUS, if I could find some scraps around, maybe it would turn out and ok mining station. Electricity prices has gone up though, and my PCU i believe is from 2009, so I'm worried for a fire hazzard with mining. Really hope I can get some qualified help, especially if I am doing some huge errors here? I am really looking forward to building this PC as my current PC is something I got from my brother inlaw around 6 years ago and he built 11-12 years ago. Would expect the new PC to be a hefty step up from my current.

I would want to buy it in around a month. I've also been thinking about buying a rig without the graphics card due to current prices and upgrading it later. I would use the processors graphics chip or a cheap graphics card until then. resolution should bin min hd 1080p, or if possible for the price 1440p. refresh rate is not to important as long as there are no really obvious lags since the pc will mostly be used for creative work. Thanks in advance for the help I've been really lost in my research, not knowing what is really important for my purposes.

Budget (including currency): $3,500+ USD Country: United States Purpose: Playing video games (Literally any, like Minecraft to Cyberpunk 2077) So my friend wants to build a gaming PC for the first time, and he has a big budget. He is fine with a computer that costs around $3,000 to maybe even $4,500 dollars. We would like tips on maybe better parts to use, or just general advice.
