Hi all! I have been following the LTT forum for a few years now, and ever since I saw his PC mounted to the desk video on Youtube I thought I had to try something a bit more refined myself. I'm no carpenter and have no special skills but just used some basic tools from the hardware store. I ordered the parts back in Q1 of 2017, the i7 7700k had been released and the GTX 1080Ti was due to be released (I pre-ordered). I had been following Gamers Nexus and LTT on youtube for reviews of the products. I also ordered the HTC vive, my plan and dream was to get into VR gaming and still play to this day. I modified a case (a Gigabyte Sumo circa 2004 that I got from an old flatmate) and installed them and all was well. We moved to a larger house at the start of 2018, got married and got a dog. We had a voucher for a furniture company from Christchurch, New Zealand called Mocka (https://www.mocka.co.nz). They do nice kitset furniture and I told my wife I could get rid of the big ugly PC case and install all the parts into the desk https://www.mocka.co.nz/marlow-desk.html. It was my first go at watercooling (as air cooling for performance would be too limited given the internal height of the gap in the desk) and I used an EK Extreme kit to get me started, plus the GPU waterblock. This year I had to change the coolant, do some maintenance on the components and wanted to change some things about the desk, the layout, and tidy the cabling. I thought I should upload my build after changing the coolant in the loop and show the changes to the desk so people can try this themselves! Most other Desk PC's are either janky (mounting to the underside of cheap furniture) or building your own from scratch. Even if you can't get the same desk, one with similar dimensions should work (will post below). I got all the mods done before our baby boy was born, and I have been working through the lockdown so there might be a few gaps between posts but I'll try to get the photos and posts up as soon as possible. The professional photos are from Humphrey Hanley, a photographer and awesome guy: http://nohandsnoexcuses.com/. Please excuse the terrible shots from my phone that I tried to take during the build (and now). I had not planned on posting the build so not all steps have photos but hopefully none are missing.... any questions please ask me and I'll try reply as soon as possible.

Hey there everyone, Like most people I was excited to see the new 30 series but seeing the prices here in NZ has me questioning whether we're getting ripped off. They're $699 USD in the US converting that to NZD is $1033.63 adding 15% GST would be $1188 Assuming import costs divided by unit, I still don't know how stores are getting their prices to the $1500s and $1700s without massive mark ups Am I missing something? https://www.pbtech.co.nz/category/components/video-cards/nvidia-desktop-graphics-cards/geforce-rtx-3080

Threadripper gaming build advice 4000$ NZD
Skylinegodzilla posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
hey so I am planning to build a new computer (in 5 months after I've saved up) and I am wanting to do a threadripper gaming build. currently, the most powerful computer I own is a 2013 macbook pro that I did/do my desing/3d animating, rendering and game dev work on, my PS4 died, and I want a computer more dedicated to gaming, VR. And as well may be used for faster rending of my animations. Also the kind of games I play range from Minecraft to games like Farcry 4, Fallout and other games of the like (which I had to install on my partner's computer since my mac did not have the graphics power to run it in bootcamp) Problem is parts are way more expensive here in NZ than in other countreys like the US (and yes that is taking into consideration the exchange rate) and there are fewer parts to chose from. So I would like some help picking parts to build the best machine fit for me that I can. My price range is about 3500-4000 NZD Right now I'm using a simple single Full HD monitor. but plan ongoing 4K in the near future. I will still use my existing peripherals but I will need a new version of Windows 10 as my current version I'm running Bootcamp on was the free upgrade version from the windows 8.1 I bought for Bootcamp Now I am wanting to use Cooler Master - COSMOS C700P ATX Full Tower Case and a thread ripper processor but everything else I can change. This here is what I have chosen at the moment. https://nz.pcpartpicker.com/list/LDM6Bb but like I said I'm open to changing everything except for the case and processer family. please help me pick the right parts for me. Thank you. -
This is a question to all Aussie based users: where are some good places to buy PC parts, both new and second-hand? Links would be much appreciated. I'm from NZ but will be visiting Melbourne, Sydney, and the Gold Coast in just over a week. I'm mostly looking for a new GPU, probably a 6GB 1060 and if I can find one significantly cheaper than at home I'll probably pull the trigger. Also what's your second hand market like? I'm assuming crap but not as crap as ours due to the larger population.

Well let me introduce myself I'm Savageiste or Jon Whatever works Now I have recently gotten my first job (computer technician at best buy) and have been well mapping my life I'm interested in becoming a software engineer or an animator and I have also been noticing that USA, America, US whatever you call it have been going to crap with all the riots and protests about well stupid little things that these morons consider huge right infringements (note that was opinion so don't rage storm this post because I disagree with that, the right to disagree always holds true in my book) and I've thought well New Zealand is pretty beautiful, clean, laid back, people aren't fighting over a blonde billionaire being the land's ruler and I just like it and I mean it maybe an isolated island but it's quite modern (although expensive amazon packages can still get there within the same week and even the free tier is within 1.5-2 weeks) and they have this Skilled Migration Program where I you have the skills they need in their economy they'll give you a 2 year residential visa and if it works a permanent resident visa which is as close to being a citizen as can be (with the exception of running for prime minister or joining their rugby team) and I looked it up they lack IT AND MULTIMEDIA so they WILL TAKE SOFTWARE ENGINEERS AND ANIMATORS!!! it will probably be hard to find a job but with some saving up I can could make it work. so see a plane to Auckland will cost $800 (probably reduced in the future) plus a single 400 square-foot apartment just outside of Auckland would be anywhere from $1500 to $2000 a month in us dollars (depends on facilities and how far from Auckland tho) and if I add in internet, food, utilities, entertainment (I won't need much insurance because medical care is cheap sometimes free based on the situation and ambulances are charitable so 100% FREE they don't got that in america so cost of living would be $3000 a month or 4486.05 Kiwis (New Zealand Dollars) per month and also it would be $2000 for the visa so if i save a year of living ($36,000) plus the $3000 to even get there and $1000 for a car there plus any other last resort money I could possibly need so I could be at $50,000 needed for this to be secure I very well could start saving up 20-25% now and in several years after college and having a few job years I could reasonably do this (at least if it goes right) so what do you all say yeah go for it? a change in plans? maybe not because of a reason I didn't consider or know about?

So I'm finalizing the parts list for my first build. Problem is I live in New Zealand so will buying most my parts from USA (we have pathetic variety and it's a little bit cheaper even with postage). Now for converting the PSU plug, would you recommend a plug adapter or just buy a cord that has my plug type? Is there any functional difference? These are the two I'm looking at, plus powers supply; EVGA 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply http://www.amazon.com/VCT-VP-Universal-Australia-ArgentinaTravel/dp/B00374I2T2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1442130218&sr=8-1&keywords=usa+to+nz+converter http://www.amazon.com/3112-3-Pole-Plug-Polarized-Power/dp/B00MJFWB6K/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1442188894&sr=8-8&keywords=pc+power+cable+new+zealand I've checked and the power supply accepts our 240v sockets Thanks guys, first post here This is my parts list so far if you're interested http://pcpartpicker.com/p/74kvyc (I know dual channel memory is better, I'm trying to leave heaps of room for upgrades and a second stick will be one of the first along with more fans)

The quality of streaming on vessel is pretty bad for me in New Zealand. I am able to watch youtube videos at 1440p@60Hz, however vessel's service seems to stutter, or not load at all, when streaming 480p upwards. Is anyone else having these issues?

Hey everybody, I've been making some travel plans, and the way I decide where to go is just find an excuse to go somewhere, and then go. I was about to head straight to the states when I saw there was going to be a meetup. I figured this was a good excuse to go to Canada, so I'm going to do that for two weeks. I was wondering if anyone in the community would be willing to lend me their couch for all or part of that time. I'm willing to pay in money, beer, or groceries if you want, as long as I can get away with paying less than I would have for a hotel, motel, or giant upturned poutine box. I can also pick up things you can only get in Brazil, since that's where I am right now. The laptop is staying behind, so I won't drain your power bill with any heavy-duty computation. If you have any doubts, I'll do my best to try alleviate them. Cheers, Reid

I live in New Zealand and come across this on the news and found it rather interesting with the recent release of netflick and other NZ only online streaming services early this year. Just a few quick things before reading to give context: Spark is a ISP/creator of Lightbox Vodafone is a ISP Chorus is the company in charge of maintaining the network and contracted for the fiber rollout NEON is a streaming service created by SKY (a cable company) http://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=11447564 "Spark said the average New Zealand house now used about as much data in a year as the whole country used each month in the late 1990s. Rival telecom company Vodafone said video streaming now made up 60 per cent of its home broadband traffic. On-demand streaming services such as Netflix and Lightbox drove much of the surge, the companies said. Spark said average monthly data use per household for its broadband customers had grown an "incredible" 29 per cent in just three months." "Its consumer director Matt Williams said the company expected its internet traffic volumes to grow by 85 per cent annually. Customers were drawn to unlimited broadband plans and the Netflix and NEON streaming video service, he said." A bit of background on the current internet in NZ The government is partly through the installation of Fiber throughout and at times the network struggles to keep up with these demands (ie as soon as game of thrones goes live, its noticeable) due to the old school copper parts of the network. I am currently on copper with 30 down and 10up with fiber due in my suburb in july/August next year. With the current fiber role out residential internet speeds in New Zealand are all over the place ranging from under 1mbs in rural areas and up to Gigabite fiber in certain towns. The average speed in NZ is a tad under what I currently have 24 down 10 up. If this increase continues into the next three months how will the network hold up and should ISP's do something to keep their networks running?

MyRepublic is launching soon in Indonesia MyRepublic.co.id and from the SG and NZ websites i see some far better deals than the one i have now (which is 6Mb Down 3Mb Up, isnt even 3Mb up and they cost 50$/month) and i really really think its 'Far too good to be true'-deals but the review i searched online is 'False-charging','Constant disconnections', and 'Pending Routers Installation' I just want to know is MyRepublic good?! Because its limited and its really fast, its a 300% upgrade from my contract with FirstMedia. Thanks!

Celebrating their 11th year Computer lounge is doing 11% off pretty much everything and for $1 they build your order if you purchase everything from them just make sure you add it to the cart, granted the standard build isn't too fancy but if you can't be bothered it's well worth it. Use the code : "CL11TH" Valid till 11PM NZT

So here in NZ we have recently been offered VDSL (high speed copper) and Fibre internet plans, almost everywhere has Fibre/VDSl access according to Chorus, they own all of the lines across NZ and they are responsible for laying and maintain them as well. Every ISP I have checked with says we don't have access to either of these services, so we're stuck with standard ADSL <8mbs So my question is why don't we have access to these services if they're offering them and they claim we can use them?

so my dad brought this up yesterday, someone at his work has this streaming box thing http://www.amazon.com/G-Box-Midnight-MX2-Android-Streaming/dp/B00CH643A8 from what i can tell, it's a android version of a apple tv and was getting all excited about how his friend can stream all the live sport for free, like golf, soccer, motorsport etc. From what he told, his friend said this is all legal, that he doesnt have to pay a subscription to watch all this live sport content. I said that its not legal, as you have to pay a subsription here in NZ to get any live sport to watch He doesnt seem to understand that this isnt a problem, streaming the content for free help me out here.

I remember seeing a thread about how expensive components were in various countries. Australians are always complaining about prices there, but New Zealand is far worse. My CM Scout 2 was just less than $200NZ, mostly due to shipping to NZ rather than currency conversion. I've been looking at the Phanteks Enthoo Pro like many others, and it seems perfect. AIO watercooling in the Scout 2 is pretty awful, and so is the front panel. The dust filters are crap. The Pro looks great and the price in the US is excellent. I would upgrade in a heartbeat if I could, but prices in NZ are so bad not to mention availability in NZ is poor. I can't find many Phanteks products in general, and to give you an idea PBtech doesn't even stock NZXT products anymore. It's just Cooler Master and Corsair cases, with a few random leftover cases still available. The 900D at PBtech is $660. Currently I'm looking at an additional $150 to import the Pro, bringing the total price to under $300. I may save some money if a company like PBtech decides to stock it, but that's unlikely. Anyone else know of a good place to get the Pro when it comes out? Comments about how you pussy Australians still have it bad are welcome also.
