Well, hello LTT community!! I've been itching to get back on a real computer and nerd out like I used to. FINALLY got around to getting it done. Lemme know what you think / suggest. I plan on gaming at 1080p and editing some basic videos in DaVinci Resolve. I would also like to dabble into streaming and recording while I play so I downloaded OBS and picked up the following items: CAM: Logitech Streamcam MIC: Razer Seiren V2 I cant wait to finish setting it all up and getting started.

Hello, I currently updated my Rig from a (Z97/i7-4790k) to a (B550/R7-5800x). In my switch of components I was able to plug the 1TB HDD and 2.5'' SSD from my old system into my new system without issues (which I expected, and thus did most of my files and saves migration to these drives). However, these drives that were successfully move from old to new didn't had windows installed on them. After updating my file path of steam and other software to the new letter drive I realized some of my old files (like game saves) were saved in my old C: drive. Thus, my question is: Can I just simply plug my old C: (another 2.5" SATA III drive) to my new system and recover that data without any issue? Or will is cause issues due to this drive having an OS installed as well? I've been trying to look this online but with mixed answers, Thus, I thought I would give it a try here! Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hello, first post in a long while. I am planning an upgrade for my rig (Since we all need to work from home) and the internet is pretty confusing on this. (My current build was done by a friend, I don't really know much) Here's the setup: Processor: AMD FX-8350 (not overclocked) Motherboard: ASUS M5A97 plus GPU: ASUS STRIX GTX 950 2gb RAM: 1x 8 gb ddr3 1866 mhz Power Supply: InterTech Energon 650 Watts Hard Drive: 1tb WD blue 7.2k rpm Over the next couple of months I am planning a few upgrades. The first one, that I want to buy now is a new video card, namely an MSI RTX 2060 super gaming x. I've been told that the power supply is bad and I need to replace it with something decent. I will also upgrade to (most probably) a ryzen 7 3800x, 16 gb ram, and and PCIe SSD (m.2) Could anyone point me to a good (modular, if possible) power supply for this? A power supply calculator online tells me I need a 426 watt power supply for my current setup and a 474 watt power supply for my fully upgraded rig. Both of these values seem really low to me so I don't really trust it. Since I'm both gaming and working from home the pc will run at least 8 hours a day.

This will be the second computer I have built. My first one is 7 years old and I have been limping in along for as long as I can and need to upgrade. I plan on using this for gaming but I also use it as a media center pc in m living room hooked up to my tv. My current tv is only 1080p but I do plan on upgrading in the near future. Like I said it will also be used as a plex server and I will be using hard drives from my old system for additional storage. I game but I don't need everything maxed out on graphics but I do want to future proof a bit. That's why I went with the graphics card in the build. One thing that is important is sound quality. I want a MOBO that has an optical output so I can hook to my AV receiver. But if there is a better option I am not aware of please let me know. I want to keep the budget below $1800.00 usd. Hello LTT community I'm in the works of upgrading a workstation I use for streaming and recording live events, also storing and uploading the recorded events. I am looking to either build one from scratch or buy a system that maybe just need a few components added, like capture card and RAM. I am not really up to date with workstations geared towards this kind of stuff... using 2 socket motherboards and Xeon processors so I need some advice/help as to what exactly should I go with. Also, I need this workstation to be somewhat future proof as I hope it can last for at least 7...10 years. Currently, I am working with the following system, it is about 8 years old. It is due for an upgrade. System Model Precision WorkStation T5400 System Type x64-based PC Processor Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X5450 @ 3.00GHz, 2992 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s) Processor Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X5450 @ 3.00GHz, 2992 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s) 16GB RAM Not sure what capture card it has, I can get that information later. Not sure what Graphics Card it has. I guess my first question is, is there a prebuilt system sold by manufacturers that is pretty easy to work with, upgrade and add stuff to it? Maybe like Dell? Or is it better for me to just build the system myself? Here are a couple of things I think are required for this. 1. Dual Socket Motherboard with decent Xeon chips. 2. SSD for programs and OS. Maybe like 500GB. 3. at least 3 spaces for HDD for storage 4. Reliable system, very important. I need it run without problems after all is setup. 5. Long story short, after a couple of years of running multiple machines for various purposes and my wife's constant complaining of all the noise the systems made in our tiny apartment at night, I have finally decided to take on a massive consolidation project. My current setup involves 6 dedicated machines: Windows home office machine (Core i5 4th Gen, 6GB DDR3, Win 7) Plex media server machine (Pentium 4, 4GB DDR2, Win XP) Linux server machine with Samba Shares (Pentium 4, 2GB DDR2, Ubuntu Server 12.04 Precise Pangolin) Linux desktop for audio and video ripping (Pentium 4, 4GB DDR2, Ubuntu Studio Desktop 16.04 Xenial Xerus) Linux desktop basic photo editing (Pentium 4, 2GB DDR2, Ubuntu Studio Desktop 14.04 Trusty Tahr) Windows desktop for gaming (Skyrim, Flight Sim 2002, Battlefield 2) (Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB DDR3, Win Vista) Plus my general purpose laptop, the wife's netbook and an android tablet. I used the machines mostly to learn about Linux, server applications, networking and to test out plausible solutions to see if they would work the way I want them to, or what compromises I could live with. I have just finished dismantling the setup in preparation for a new system build. I've decided to overhaul not just the hardware, but the operating systems I am using as well. The idea is to start with a Linux server distro most likely Ubuntu as I am most familiar with that, but I am also looking at CentOS or Fedoria that will host Virtual Machines, among other server applications. (i'll create a new thread in the proper forum when I am ready to discuss the OS for this build, mean time back to the motherboard.) I've chosen a Rosewell RSV-L4500 case, which supports up to an EATX Motherboards and an ATX Power Supply. I know which ever CPU I choose will need to support Virtualization and Virtualization I/O Support (Leaning towards Intel for this one, but still open to AMD) I am having a hard time selecting a motherboard for this build as I am getting hung up on chipsets, For example the X99 chipset offers way more PCI Bus lanes than the Z270 and AMD's chipset is outdated but I've found a lot more dual socket motherboards available for the AMD Chipset/Processors. PCI Bus support is going to be important to me, because I do plan on running dual graphics cards in addition to a 4 port NIC card, a RAID Card (if the mobo doesn't have enough SATA Connectors for 12 drives), TV Turner Card and possibly a capture card. Although all the cards will most likely not all be in use at the same time, I don't want a PCI slot to reduce its bandwidth because there isn't enough to go around. I am not looking to go crazy expensive, but I don't want to go dirt cheap just to upgrade a component or two in the next 12 months. Any suggestions on a a motherboard that supports PCI 3.0, preferably dual sockets and SATA3? I'd love an M.2 slot as well but that is purely an optional feature for my build.

The budget can go up a notch if necessary of course. Wouldn't want to spend my money on a bad configuration. Any type of suggestions for improvement are warmly welcomed ! USA in $USD The aim of this setup is to run several emulators at once, plex media servers 24/7 and some gaming. I do have some specific questions about case fans. I'm looking at getting a fan controller and was wondering if I need to get fans that are 3pin or 4pin, does it matter when it's not for the CPU? Also, my plan is to make a positive pressure environment inside my case. That being said, my goal is to use all 8 case fan slots and have 5 intake and 3 exhaust (2 being on my Corsair AiO radiator on the top of the case), mainly for 2 reasons, to help keep dust out and to help force more air through my radiator for CPU cooling. Any who, my last question about what kind of fans that help create pressure and currently I have picked the CM Sickleflow green LED fans because I love green and they move a lot of air, are there any better fans out there I can use that will work better for the around the same price (less than $10 per fan)? I'm also not married to having green LEDs but if not green then no LEDs because it will mess up my case colors

I just got my new PC, and Windows won't boot, it gets to the bios screen then looks for input and the monitor turns off, all the parts are compatible, and I've tested the HDD in another rig. However someone gifted me a MBP mid 2010 and I was wonder if I should upgrade the ram and ssd or if its not even worse it considering the shitting proc that it has. Hello everyone, I've just built a new gaming computer, and I can't decide which monitor I should get to make the most of it. I'm looking at ultrawides, and I think I've narrowed it down to the ASUS PG348Q (IPS) or the Samsung CF791 (VA). Unfortunately, I live in the middle of nowhere USA so I would have to drive over 3 hours to see either of these monitors in person. As such, I'm trying to do as much research as possible before I drop $1k on a monitor. I'm definitely more interested in high fps gaming than 4K, and both of these monitors offer up to 100 Hz. My question is: should I stick with the IPS panel and hope I get one without too much backlight bleeding, or should I take a chance on the VA panel and hope that the viewing angle isn't too narrow. I plan to only use this computer for gaming, and my setup should be able to handle 3440x1440 100Hz no problem. Listed below are the specs. Ello! New user here, not quite sure if I'm posting in the right place or not. I'm getting new rigs for University (Leaving home soon.) My plan is to use a laptop for the first one or two semesters before building out my new desktop. Therefore, I'm looking for advice on what laptop to buy. I'm heading in as an engineering major, so I'll be using engineering software such as Solidworks, Matlab, etc. I'm also a bit of a gamer, graphic designer, and video creator. I've been looking around, but am having a tough choice deciding. My questions are; For any video editors; Do you edit on a computer with a touchscreen such as 2-in-1 or use the conventional mouse and keyboard? Graphic designers; 2-in-1 or no? Anyone who might have experience with engineering; How intensive do the specs need to be? The upper limit of my budget is around $2,300, but I would prefer something in the $1000-$1500 range. 4k would also be awesome to have. A killer battery would also be a plus. So far I've been looking at; Razer Blade Stealth Razer Blade Surface Book Surface Pro Dell XPS 13 Dell XPS 15 HP Spectre x360 Once I get enough money and a place that isn't a dorm room I'll build a new desktop rig. Looking forwards i want to start building a personal computer and do wonder if I have to upgrade my cpu or if it is viable to keep it. Hello LTT community, this is my first attempt at building a pc. I've helped friends put together pc's, but have never build one myself, and since I expect there to be some nice sales this holiday season, now seems as good a time as ever. Disclaimer: I'm in need of a lot of guidance as I'm busy with finishing up my degree and am not nearly as well informed as the members here. Budget: I'd ideally like to stay under $650, and I am in the US (if you guys can build something for even cheaper that hits my target then be my guest, I love saving money). Aim: My PC is essentially a vessel used solely for World of Warcraft raiding (number 1 progress on my server baby) and other than that light school work as well as netflix and chilling. World of Warcraft by itself is hardly demanding for any pc, but when it comes to hardcore and semi-hardcore raiding my current setup is becoming a detriment to progress. For those who dabble in wow, I'd like to 20 man raid at ~60-80 fps on high settings (I believe this is possible at $600). Monitors: I run 2 1920x1080p monitors at all times because I'm ADHD and can't game without watching a stream or netflix off to the side. Peripherals: I got this covered (including monitors) already so can save some cash here. I also have a free windows 10 copy from my University so no need for that either. Why I'm upgrading: My current pc is a prebuilt HP pavilion HPE that is about 8 years old now (I know, gross). The pc is running slow as possible and it can hardly push 30 fps in game on bare minimum settings, even with my second monitor deactivated, and this is at idle. During any sort of the load the frames drop to ~20, and very often when entering combat the screen will freeze entirely for 30+ seconds, and occasionally the game will crash. Now I've cleaned my pc both physically and memory-wise, as well as run full scans for any malware or viruses using Bitdefender. I reckon the culprit is age mixed with being a low-end pc to begin with. Oh yeah and don't get me started on the boot times, it's about how long it takes for my kettle to boil chilly water, and that's just to get to the login screen. The pc doesn't become operational after login for about 5 more minutes. It's like an old, fat dog that is being forced to go for a walk. Anyways, ideas I have so far include a MSI GTX 1050 Ti, featured in Luke's video from 3 weeks ago, paired with a Core i3-6100. As far as ram I would reckon 8gigs is enough for now, but I'd like to be able to expand to 16 in the future. For motherboards I genuinely have no clue where to start as I don't understand compatibility at all so I'll leave it to y'alls judgement on that front. I'd like an SSD for my OS as well as WoW (if it'll fit, it's over 100gigs and I'm aware that SSDs aren't super cheap) and a disk drive for everything else is fine. Note: I'm not heavily biased towards brands, but I would prefer an intel processor. If you guys think you can design a great machine within my budget, and you want to completely divert from the path I've set then feel free to. I'm not married to the dinky little list I came up with above and trust you all more than myself with compatibility and fulfilling my requirements. I believe my budget could stretch for an i5 and a juicier video card, but I'm not sure how much all the other components will cost. I'm sorry if my post was a bit unorthodox as I am real hopeless when it comes to this sort of thing, but I'm looking forward to seeing what you guys will come up with, and thank you in advance for all your help. P.S. For cases I like anything minimalistic, especially by NZXT, but anything simple that fulfills the necessary form factor is fine by me.
