Hello everyone! I recently bought 2 ConnectX-3 cards to improve file transfer speeds between the PC and the "server", but i don't really know how to set it up correctly. Current setup looks like this: What i need is: 1) PC, Server and the Router should be in one network; 2) PC and Server should use 40GbE for transfers between each other; 3) When accessing the internet - they both should use 100Mbit link through the router; 4) Currently, both PC and Server are also connected through SoftEther VPN server hosted on a remote VPS. I wonder if i can set something up, so if some "service" is hosted on the Server - at least the requests made from the PC (in that SoftEther network) would go straight to the Server, and not to VPS and back. I thought "Local Bridge" would do that, but didn't work out as i expected. That link through the VPN is here because i need remote access to both the PC and the Server. I also have Navidrome using that virtual network for broadcasting to remote devices. Any advice and/or instructions on how i'd have to do all of this?

Hi all! So I noticed a few weeks ago that my home network would “crash” occasionally whenever I would try to stream content via Plex on my local network. My client is a 2nd Gen AppleTV 4K. One behavior was: After starting playback, the content would load, but shortly after my server and home network would go offline. All devices would loose connection until my router came back online. The routers would not “reboot” per se, at least according to the status LEDs, but they completely lost connection. Another behavior was: Playback would start fine, but usually after a few minutes, playback would stutter and a “your connection to the server is not fast enough” message would appear. Sometimes it would stabilize, other times it would just lag and crash the network again. Server: 2018 Mac mini running Plex Media Server v.1.87.2.87-87488d5a Router: 2x Linksys Velop MX4200 Anyway, the solution seems to have been to ENABLE “Priority By Device” in my Linksys Smart Wifi App. Assigning my server to the priority list seems to have completely stabilized my network. I watched Oppenheimer (4K @ ~45Mbps), an episode of Bobs Burgers, and am currently watching South Park while typing this. The network appears completely stable. tldr: If you have a Linksys router and your network is crashing when watching Plex, add your server to the “Priority By Device” list in your Linksys Smart Wifi App.

network transfering files between desktop-laptop on home network

Hi, i'm trying to tansfer files like games, savegames, movies etc. How could i do that the "easy" way? I regulary need to do this. -
I’ll give the facts of what happening and what I’m hoping to achieve. My setup: ISP modem is in bridge mode, they (ISP) have provided a static IP to me for years, even when I moved it has stayed the same. So the connection is passed off to my router (ASUS RT-AC5300) for handling. I have had everything setup the way I liked for years, static local IP’s for my NAS, main computer, my dedicated server (old PC repurposed) I use to host games online to play with people once in awhile, all the ports and forwarding ports, ect.. Unfortunately I believe my network was compromised; (Which doesn’t actually surprise me as I had RDP attacks in the past that been flagged when I had to use RDP to connect to my home system from out of town). Now to be fair, last month we had rapid power surges and the Router got turned off and on repeatedly within 3 seconds about with each surge for a good 5 to 6 mins before I got it unplugged. But still feel it’s compromised by an attacker who gain access. I went to log into my router as I noticed my main computer had network activity and wasn’t suspicious, just weird as it was for a server company I used to rent dedicated systems from and it kinda looks like their DNS being used. What I was met with was the router login screen and my credentials wouldn’t work (yes I rebooted the network). My username, and password wouldn’t let me login. Which is why I believe someone else managed to get in through my ISP IP and did who knows what, and then changed my login information. - The Plan - So everything is now unplugged till I can handle it tonight. it sucks having to start from scratch again, but times have changed and maybe someone more up to date on things could help me make sure I set everything up more secure and still be able to game online and once in a blue moon host a few games on my other system. I’m gonna put Asuswrt-Merlin on my RT-AC5300 to try out. I heard it can block attacks from know bad actors by a list using ipset. Also heard it VPN function can be assigned to devices / groups instead of putting the whole router into that VPN mode. I just need to know the best way to set it up to prevent anyone outside of the local network to get access to the GUI / login page. To keep it locked down, but yet easy to host game servers. Also when I do have to open a port for a game or something, what options do I have to insure no one listening for open ports, can’t take advantage of a game port opened.

Hello everyone, I recently built my desktop and everything was working fine. Or at least I thought so. While browsing the internet, everything is fine, playing games is a nightmare. My ping up to 500 for like a few seconds every 10 seconds. You can find attached the picture of ping meter. I tried updating the drivers, disconnecting the antenna and plug it back in, updating bios, nothing works. Plugged to a usb tether or ethernet, everything works perfectly fine. Both my laptop and phone that sits in the same room don't have this issue. Trying to identify the issue I even set up my phone as a hotspot next to the antenna and I got the same result. Any ideas why this is a problem is welcome. Otherwise, I guess I will have to send it back. EDIT v1: Amazon refunded the motherboard while I got to keep it.

This thread is meant to show us your network layout. Some rules You must have a proper network diagram; Something made in Microsoft Visio, Gliffy (Free) or something similar. No all-in-one boxes; There is not much to show off if your network only has 1 networking device. I'm looking a switch to put in before my router as the one they supply has good coverage but it only has a gigabit ethernet output and my house has two routers as the walls are VERY thick by brick and access points don't work even when in its in the next room. We have a single cable that goes to the other side of the house but as said it only gets gigabit connection, I have 900mbps in so obviously I don't near that speed on the other side of the house

I, like many others, have received an email from Google Domains advising the transition to Squarespace will no longer support DDNS and to find an alternative before the transition. I'm still a bit new to self hosting stuff, so not sure what my best options are? Is it better to get a 3rd party DDNS to work on Squarespace or migrating to another domain provider that has DDNS? Currently I have my ASUS AX86U router doing the DDNS, but it only seems to support very limited DDNS providers. (image) Some of the sites I've looked up so far don't have a free tier with DDNS that I can use my existing domain on. Currently I use the DDNS to externally log into things on my network, like the router, SFTP on the NAS, Plex and other useful pages hosted from the NAS. As I said, I'm still learning all this web domain and name server stuff, so any tips/tricks for this would be appreciated. I have been looking up stuff via networkchuck and similar, but they all seem to be running things like this on Raspberry pi's or Linux servers. So I'm not sure how to translate that on the setup I currently have.

First time here in this forum. I have a total of 3 external USB hard disks (2-4 TB each) lying around. I don't use them often because most of my and my family's media consumption is done online and on their phones and such... Instead of just stashing the HDDs in a drawer somewhere, I figured setting up a home NAS with them would be a good idea. I already have a gigabit switch with ethernet wired to all the rooms in the house and wifi too. Devices that need to access it are 2 laptops, 1 gaming PC/HT-PC in living room, multiple phones and tablets. So I've been researching and found this refurbished mini-PC (amazon link) (4th gen i5, 8gb ram, 256gb SSD, gigabit ethernet, 3 usb-2 ports and 2 usb-3 ports) and I'm planning to buy it. It's got enough usb ports and gigabit ethernet which should be okay for my use case. I've already got an old cheap monitor and keyboard-mouse. I've got a UPS backup for my entire house and plan to leave it on 24/7. I also would prefer not to keep them connected to the living room PC as I don't always keep it on. I think I can trust the mini-PC. It has good reviews and all the important data on my drives are backed up to multiple cloud storage services and I absolutely do follow good data backup practices. I just don't want these drives to just gather dust in the drawer. So my question is - Is this a feasible idea? Is there anything really obvious I'm missing with this setup. Any problems that I need to be aware of when using external drives? Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks... Budget (including currency): Upto 200 USD in local currency - 15000 INR. I would prefer to manage with above suggested/already available hardware. Country: India Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Home network attached storage for non-critical files. Non-critical data backups.

Hi Community, I´m getting some issues recently while trying to play Dayz again. While trying to connect i´ll get the error 0x00010001 which means that the host is not reachable, but with VPN connection everything works. So it has to be a problem with my settings. I tried to set up another DNS 8.8.8.8 & 1.1.1.1 instead of my pihole. I tried to open ports (set up a wildcard) for testing in my pfsense. I have uninstalled my surfshark vpn (sometimes they do cause the issue) and now I don´t have any idea left to check. Mostly I run an proxy to cloudflare for my whole network, but I disabled it for the testing. Has anyboby an idea what I could do next? Thx a lot

Hello Issue: I have issue with my build in Realtek LAN card, earlier today I updated my AMD drivers to 24.1.1 and bios (ASUS Prime X670-P CSM) to BIOS v.2214. After reboot my lan connection was stuck in "identifying" ( windows 11) Ethernet adapter : Realtek Gaming 2.5Gb E Family controler Troubleshooting: Restarted PC multiple times Release/renew ipconfig command via CMD Disabled etherned adapter Uninstall etherned adapter Driver update for etherned adapter tried different cable directly from router (normally is connected via switch) From this point it gets weird at this point I just gave up,thinking that BIOS update fried the network card so I added another Broadcom PCIe network card to the PC,rebooted but it still has the same behavior which si totaly weird. So I reverted back to BIOS v1811 , no change. Set everything to default , CMOS reset - no change I reset the router to default settings - no change. I set up the static IP address to my router directly - IT JUST WORKS :D. Everything works like usual. except windows icon which says I am disconnected But problem is that I can't use VPN because it has same problem , it just can't connect to the VPN network , i got the feeling it can resolve or obtain IP address. When I revert the Static IP to automatic - again no network - only identifying. Can I solve this without reinstalling windows ? I really , REALLY don't wanna Other PCs/laptos/camers works on my network fine. Thank you all Have a great day ( at least better day as I am having :))

In my quest for a G-PON to RJ11 and RJ45 converter, I came across the UISP Fiber XG on the Ubiquiti site. However, it seems to only support RJ45 and not RJ11. Given the necessity for an RJ11 connection in my setup for calling purposes, I'm reaching out to the community for recommendations on alternatives or if there are other products that fulfill both requirements. I've attached a picture for your reference. Your expertise and advice, especially if you've encountered a similar situation, would be immensely valuable. Thank you for your assistance!

I apologize for the long winded explanation of the issue... I am completely lost here. I am trying to access a few newly added web apps I intend to host. When trying to reach them I get nothing. Beating my head against the wall for a few days with no luck. Not sure what new link in the chain is kicking me. Some background: Currently I host several web applications out of my home server running TrueNAS Scale Bluefin 22.12.0. My setup for accessing them is simple: TrueNAS machine Truechart or Official Chart app Node Proxy Manager (Truechart) (Port 443) Port 443 forwarded on router to TrueNAS machine Domain (Cloudflare NS & Proxy) points to my home IP. Profit.. This has worked wonderful for me, but I am getting sick of TrueNAS Charts, and even more sick of Truecharts. Desired new setup: I have installed a debian VM running docker and portainer on the TrueNAS machine. I have a bridge setup as the network interface on this VM. I can access portainer using 192.168.1.101:9443. Great! Seems to work. Add a new container, 192.168.1.101:8443... I'm in, awesome. Add new domains to NodeProxyManager. Nothing. Can't get in. Odd. When I open the ports on my router they become accessible. I can use Node to forward to my desktop without issue. What is or isn't working: For example, just to test I spun up codiad. http://192.168.1.101:7443 https://code.domain.tld (Proxied by cloudflare) This is the one I would like to be working https://home.domain.tld (Not proxied, but pointing to the same IP) https://home.domain.tld:7443 (Not proxied, port opened at router pointing to VM IP) https://code.domain.tld:7443 (Proxied, port opened at router pointing to VM IP) https://home.ip:7443 (port opened at router pointing to VM IP) So, opening the ports directly works, but only when not proxied. (Not a real option for my use case) Level1Techs uses a VPN to access all the apps in the guide I read, but some of my apps are meant to be public. Any time NPM is in the chain it seems to break, but I don't have any issues using it for other devices on my network, including the TrueNAS charts on the same machine. NodeProxyManager setup (It also has home.domain.tld pointing to this same entry for testing) Info Physical NIC/TrueNAS NIC IP: 192.168.1.100/24 Bridge/debian VM IP: 192.168.1.101/24 Router: Dream Machine Pro: IP 192.168.1.1/24 I setup my VM, docker environment, and portainer following this guide from level1techs Any ideas on how to resolve this issue would be extremely appreciated.

First I wanna say thank you for taking the time to read what I can only assume to be the worst dumpster fire of a situation, My pc’s mobo is a Prime z370-A, I used to run windows 10 pro and now on windows 11 because of the journey to madness, the reason I went from a utp cat 6 to a cat 8 flat is because of damage and common disconnecting due to the old cable, things I have tried to get the motherboard to notice the cable that is now connected consist of network resting, dns flushing, ip/dns release and renewing, updating the driver through the windows feature even tried to get the new ones from the manufacturer but to no use, and yes I did try turning it on and off again, oh there is also the method from bios where I tried the onboard devices thing, any help is appreciated.

Hey all, just looking for some tips and tricks to set up a physical firewall on my network. At the moment my Asus Router does the firewall/router combo and it'd be a lot more secure (and not to mention good practice for me since I wanna move up in my IT job) to just use a physical box to process traffic through. Currently I have a HP EliteDesk 800 G3 SFF PC that's kinda been my testbench/tinker box and I'm thinking of turning it into a physical firewall. It only has onboard 1gig ethernet, but in all honesty I'm pretty sure my ISP doesn't offer anything higher than 1gig for me as a consumer anyway, and anything 2.5 gig is just for local transfers anyway. What software would be best and what might be the best way to go about setting it up? I know some people run a Linux based OS that's dedicated for networking (Proxmox and the like basically) but if there are other suggestions as well, I'd be interested to know what they may be. Also any video tutorials or guides to follow alongside are always helpful. I'm much more visual of a learner than text lol. Whatever suggestions you may have will be welcomed graciously. Thanks everyone <3

We recently upgraded to fiber optic cabling to our house and the speeds are amazing but since then I've been having some problems. The symptoms are as follows: Only problems are with LAN WIFI works fine (every device with LAN connection has the same experience) When powering on device it shows that it is connected to internet but when trying to access any website it will load indefinitely (but won't show in browser that there is no network connection) While on the device it says I am connected when I check connected devices in the router settings it does not show anything until Only thing we have done to temporarily fix the issue is restarting computers, unplugging and re-plugging lane cable, and rebooting the modem. It will also randomly through the day just stop working but if I am downloading something it will continue to download; or in a call on my pc I can still hear the other client, but they cannot hear me. This happens until after about 5 minutes it starts working again. Before the fiber and new modem nothing like this happened which is why I am inclined to think that the modem has an issue. After a bit more testing I found that the internet stops for all LAN devices when I turn on my own PC, and the other devices will lose internet but also still say they are connected in the bottom right. Things I've checked: I've run an antivirus Checked the cabling running from my pc to modem (still recommend and idea if you think its the cabling) Network reset has been run and no change. How can I fix this

The following is my current setup for my gaming/work use. The desk is an Ikea MALM which, ngl, one of the best desks I've ever had. The monitors are mounted via cheap monitor arms I got on Amazon (and yes, made many, many missed attempts before landing them in a spot I liked). I keep my mic mounted on the wall as well (yes I miss mounted that too). The mic is a HyperX QuadCast S. The monitors are 2 ASUS ROG PG279Q's (The far left and the far right) And an Asus VG27AQ1A (Center). Why the mismatch of monitors? Because tbh they're so extremely similar that it doesn't matter, the only difference being the center VG27AQ1A which support HDR, which I only turn on for gaming. The PC in the SilverStone case is my Debian 12 Home NAS/Media Server. Lovingly referred to as "AlphaCat." Networking, I run off a Refurb Asus AX1100 that has served me very well for the past 3+ years. And a Zyxel 2.5gig switch behind that. The white box is the comcast modem. The brown bag is a crap load of ethernet cabling I use to make ethernet cables and spare HDDs should I ever need them. Tardis lamp for beautiful lighting which does have a smartbulb I can turn off remotely. The VR headset is a Vive Pro with wireless adapter, Valve Knuckles (don't remember what the new name is), and FBT kit. Not pictured are the 4 lighthouses that surround the room. Hi there, I need help identifying a persistent and challenging issue. We are offering a $100 USD reward for its resolution. So I work for a Minecraft server, and we average a few hundred daily players, however the last 2.5 months or so we've been facing a network issue, every few minutes, we have a random player get disconnected. This problem randomly started happening out of nowhere, the Minecraft server is a Prison server, and we have seasons that last around a month, and this issue popped up mid-season, and mid-seasons we don't change anything major, or update any plugins except for our own plugin when releasing patches for the gamemode, and we did not push anything that would cause the issue we are facing, it quite literally seems like it started out of no where. For quite some time, we were running on a dedicated server provided by Hetzner and we had 0 issues, and like I had previously stated, we then started facing issues out of no where, and at the time, we were using a game DDoS protection service named TCPShield, we then began to go back and forth with their support team as we had figured it was a problem on their end, and after a while we weren't able to come to a solution, so as a troubleshooting step, we switched to two other providers, one being Papyrus, another DDoS protection service, and another named Pufferfish, which we bought a VPS through, and began proxying our Hetzner machine through that ourselves using HAProxy, however none of these things fixed our issue, we still had players disconnecting every few minutes or so, and we had no idea as to what the reason was. After trying different DDoS protection methods, thinking that was where our problem was, none of them resolved our issue, so we decided to switch hosting providers from Hetzner to OVH, that way we eliminate the extra DDoS protection layer we were using, and we used raw OVH as our DDoS protection, that way we could also rule out the dedicated server we previously had as the issue. So now, we had a new dedicated server on a completely different host, an entirely different network, no extra layers of DDoS prot, and we still faced the issue. Our Minecraft server setup consists of a proxy running Bungeecord, 5 hub servers, and the main gamemode server, Prison. When players are disconnected, they aren't disconnected from the server they are on and sent just to a hub, they are kicked entirely from the proxy, and we tried switching the software the proxy used from Bungeecord to Velocity, which still did not fix the issue, we had the exact same error. No matter the server you were on, whether that be a Hub server, or the main Prison gamemode, players were still being kicked, so we decided to look into our plugins to see which plugins we had in common between these servers, in-case it was a faulty one. We found quite a number of shared plugins, however these plugins were all up-to-date, and ones that we didn't believe would cause the issue, such as things like LuckPerms (permission management), LiteBans (punishments), and a few other of believed innocents. We tried disabling plugins that were interacting with networking, such as ProtocolLib (a packet handler which provides an API to devs), and a few other non-required plugins, which again, did not solve our issue. Current Setup: - A dedicated server on OVH running Ubuntu 22.04, with a Ryzen 9 5900X CPU, 128gb of RAM, and gigabit networking - Pterodactyl game panel (baremetal) - Docker, which runs our databases (MongoDB, MariaDB, and phpMyAdmin), metrics software (Grafana, Prometheus, and InfluxDB), as well as houses containers the Pterodactyl panel hosts - Game server proxy running Velocity - 5 Hub servers, and a Prison server (running a 1.8.9 PaperSpigot fork) We Tried: - Switching dedicated server hosts (Hetzner -> OVH) - Switching DDoS protection services - Switching game server proxy software (Bungeecord -> Velocity) - Switching software on the 5 hubs, and Prison server (Custom PaperSpigot fork -> VortexSpigot, another Paper fork, and vanilla Paper) - Ensuring our fireware was properly configured (no rate limits, or bad rules) - Disabling plugins we believed to be at fault, or were interacting with things at a deep level that could potentially cause our issue We Know: - It isn't our dedicated server hardware, or host/DDoS prot (could be something on the machine its self, software wise?) - It isn't the machine being bottlenecked - It isn't the software the proxy, or other servers are running - The issue isn't region based, many players we checked were very far distances from one another The Error (Only shown in proxy logs): [15:36:12] [Netty epoll Worker #44/INFO] [com.velocitypowered.proxy.connection.client.ConnectedPlayer]: [connected player] xxx (/xxx:11576) has disconnected: An internal error occurred in your connection. [15:36:12] [Netty epoll Worker #44/ERROR] [com.velocitypowered.proxy.connection.MinecraftConnection]: [connected player] xxx (/xxx:11576): exception encountered in com.velocitypowered.proxy.connection.client.ClientPlaySessionHandler@38e34ed5 io.netty.channel.unix.Errors$NativeIoException: recvAddress(..) failed: Connection reset by peer [15:36:12] [Netty epoll Worker #44/INFO] [com.velocitypowered.proxy.connection.MinecraftConnection]: [server connection] xxx -> Prison has disconnected With everything we have tried, nothing has fixed the issue we are facing, and we're running out of things to try, which is why we are making this post in hopes someone can help us resolve this issue.
