Hi, Recently my Asus AC-RT88u wireless router (https://www.asus.com/au/networking-iot-servers/wifi-routers/asus-wifi-routers/rt-ac88u/techspec/) has decided not want to connect via WAN port with my TP-link VX220-G2V. After 10th factory resets and troubleshooting I've given up. Moving on I'm now looking at a decent replacement Wireless Router with atleast 4 ethernet ports and WiFi 6 to connect my smart things hub, 2 room with wired ethernet. I was also thinking on buying the same brand to prevent conflicts. ( https://www.tp-link.com/au/home-networking/wifi-router/archer-ax1500/) Possible replacement? Any help on this would be great. How fast is the Xbox 360 e WiFi I am not getting the full speed of my NBN connection on fixed wireless with Telstra I did a speed test on my phone I am getting the full speed but just not on the Xbox 360 e WiFi.

im going to build a pc pretty soon but im not going to be using wired internet i live in australia an already have nbn but dont know how to connect it wirelessly any help would be appreciated

Decent Prices and "speeds" but their service is slightly good. but not that good. Dodo - http://www.dodo.com.au - Covers NBN and ADSL2+. In my opinion 8.6/10. Brilliant Prices and speed deals. --- Rarely spoken about FIBRE ISPs --- Node1 Fibre - http://www.node1.com.au - Covers NBN and Their own Fibre Network. Up to 500down 500up mbps. IMO 7.6/10. Connexus - http://www.connexus.com.au - Covers NBN,ADSL and their own Fibre Network. up to 1GBPS. IMO 8/10 DGTek - http://dgtek.net - Covers Their own Fibre network. Up to 1GBPS Symmetrical. (up and down) IMO 8/10. Only Covers Elwood and a few surrounding Suburbs.

High ping when sharing wifi only while playing the same game

Whenever me and my girlfriend play the same game one of us gets a massive increase to our ping, if we play two different games it's fine but if we're playing WoW or LoL together it just shoots up if we're playing separate games it's stable. Is this just a wifi issue or something else? -
so here is a little story for some people to look at. https://www.cnet.com/news/kellyville-green-box-represents-everything-wrong-with-australia-internet-speeds-nbn/ the slogan was "faster internet for all of Australia" but im pretty sure the fine print said "unless you are one of those 2nd-3rd rate citizens that is in rural areas, then you can just burn for 4 months straight. here is the fun thing, at home we are paying $70 a month for 350Gb of data at 3.5Mbps. an when we go over we get hit with a 128kbps shaping. we pay more for data because... we live out of town. so apparently that means we dont get the unlimited data plans because..im guessing they have to stamp an mail the data manually... more over we get slow speeds AND its constantly being interrupted Or slowed further, sometimes for hrs... sometimes for months on end. this is what its like to live with rural australia internet (or at least in my area). we have had our house line zippy tied to a star-post for 3yrs now. we can not get a even remotely decent deal. satellite costs are bad. especially with the ridiculous on peak data caps we arent going to get the NBN 3Kms out of town because we arent worth it. BUT we can get NBN satellite... which last i checked Telstra was going to charge $150 for 100GB. so i have a few things to put out there an ask. In 2020 are Shaping speeds less than 1Mbps acceptable. 128kbps struggles to open a generic google search. is data caps of 60Gbs+140Gbs (60 between 7am-1am and 140 between 1am and 7am) somewhat predatory, (this is mostly designed to drive people to buy the more expensive package because they are using up 1/4 of their data when they are awake.) and Should customers have complete access to their purchase when ever they want ? (to me this is like buying fuel for my bike\car but only being able to use 1/4 of it during typical wake time and having to buy bigger fuel tank if i want to drive\ride more during this time) anyways be happy to hear what other peoples internet is like. surely cant be worse than what we have here.

hoprfully i explain this properly but here goes so ive just moved into a new house (im in australia btw if that helps) and the internet from the road comes into the house in the garage and theres a second port in there aswell that goes to the kitchen. so i have one router in the garage (tplink archer vr600) taking in the fttn connection, and ive also got a server plugged directly into that router. and then ive got the other router (tplink archer vr2800) in the kitchen currently in bridge mode. ive currently got the router in the kitchen having all the devices connected to it but my problem is that i cannot access network shares etc from the server thats connected to the router in the garage. so i guess what im wanting is the have the router in the garage to act as just a modem but also share the network ports with the router in the kitchen. please let me know if you need more details or a network map or whatever

Summary Today the Australian government has announced that 2 million premises in the FTTN footprint will have access to FTTP with fibre on demand by 2023. Premises in the FTTC and HFC footprint will have access to up to Gigabit speed and premises in the existing FTTP footprint already have access to Gigabit speed. This upgrade is set to create 25,000 new jobs in engineering, construction, transport and project management. My thoughts Good news for those stuck on under performing FTTN connections! What a waste of time and money. If only Australia stuck with the original 93% FTTP plan but hey politics. Hi, Just planning on fixing my Wifi coverage and performance throughout my home. My current setup is a Huawei HG659 modem which then is connected to my Asus RT-AC88U router. My plan is to buy a new Modem preferably Asus to utilise the AiMesh feature so only need to use one dual band SSID. Just wanting to know whether the Asus DSL-AC68U modem will work on its own without the need of the my Internet providers modem (Huawei HG659) connected to it. Also Im from Australia and I'm using a service called NBN Fibre to the node because I've also read storys of lots of problem when setting up Asus modems with it. Hi everyone, I'm just looking if anyone can give advice on why i would get such horrid speeds over wireless at night where i struggle to load a 144p video on YT. During the day over LAN i get 100mbps download and 40mbps upload. Wireless i get 20/30 during the day where it should be 100/40, and over night it is so unstable i get "internet is unavailable" Getting real sick of paying for internet speeds i rarely get over wireless. Hey guys. I recently made a post about trying to resolve a router issue I have had, but nothing has fixed it so I have decided that I will be taking it back for a refund and getting a new router. I would love to hear some recommendations about what to get as I am not too sure what is good. All I know is I have had terrible experience with Netgear and Billion so I would prefer to avoid them if possible (also, Netgear has horrendous customer support). Also not a fan of Cisco routers as I don't really want to use a command line to configure everything. I only have a basic understanding of networking. The router needs to have VDSL2, as I am getting NBN in my area (I'm in Australia). A quick TLDR of NBN; all areas now receive FTTN. I would love to hear opinions and suggestions from those who have good experience in networking if possible as I have had issues with recommendations from people who aren't too good in the area (yes, that is my fault). I want a router that is very reliable and has good features if possible. My budget is about $300 - $350 AUD ($235 - $275 USD). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Hello! I am planning to switch to the NBN in the first week of January. I was wondering if anyone can tell me their experience when switching? Was it instant or did they have somebody come to your house and set something up? I am trying to find something online but I can't find anything but what happens when you switch to the NBN, not switching. (NBN Co Limited is an Australian government-owned corporation tasked to design, build and operate Australia's National Broadband Network as a monopoly wholesale broadband provider. Hello everybody! I recently found out that I will be moving to Wagga Wagga from Sydney and I was given the job to find decent internet plans for a cheap price. One of the plans that I found was $80/month for a landline telephone and unlimited internet data on the NBN (National Broadband Network). Investigating more, I found that the speed was NBN Basic which is about 1.2MB/s Down and 500KB/s up. Would I see any benefits from going with the NBN plan such as more consistent speeds and lower ping or should I just pay the same price for cable with 3MB/s down and 1MB/s up? Thanks!

hey guys so i'm moving in about 2 weeks and the new apartment has NBN(fiber) and i have gone with the 100/40 speeds and i'm finding it hard to get the hardware i want in a package(looks) i want. the fiber line comes in at the corner of the apartment and its in a reallllllly thick concrete cupboard and i'm certain the wifi signal will not even reach the master bedroom so i think i will go with a router and AP in separate packages so i can put the AP in the living room as its the middle room. whole place is wired and has a switchboard in the networking cupboard and every single wall is real thick concrete. so what i was thinking of is : Draytek Vigor 2120 and Linksys WAP300N https://www.pccasegear.com/products/31634/draytek-vigor-2120-gigabit-router https://www.umart.com.au/umart1/pro/products_review.phtml?id=10&bid=2&id2=272&sid=139980 list of devices connecting: 2 ipads 2 chromecasts 2 PC's 1 laptop 3 phones and a NAS (all of that just for 2 people can't believe it sorry about the bad sketch of the floor plan that's the stretch of my artistic abilities

So yeah...if you don't know what Fibre To The Node is, it's the Liberal party's way of cutting costs on the NBN. Basically they run fibre from the telephone exchange to a node or "fibre box" which then uses the existing copper infrastructure to connect to individual houses. The trials were delayed for 3 months if I recall correctly, but it's finally been tested with some rather astonishing results, TBH. Impressive...really impressive. Note that the upload speed is weirdly slower from a closer distance to the node, I suspect this is just a tiny bit of variation in the tests, nothing too out-of-the-ordinary. My only concern is that these speeds would drop dramatically if there were more houses being fed by that specific node in that test. According to the source, which I will mention towards the end, only 4 end users were involved in the test. I would kill for those speeds though, 33Mbps is plenty for Twitch streaming which I am unable to do now on my 0.8Mbps upload speed. And downloading Steam games at 98Mbps - it wouldn't take 3-5 hours to download games and updates anymore. There seems to be a lot of Aussies here, lets discuss what's going on with the two network plans, as it's something we clearly all have an interest in. For any non-Aussies (or Aussies out of the loop) that would like to be involved, here's what's going on: The Labor Party, which is currently in government, has started building the National Broadband Network, which is essentially a Fibre to Premise network to 93% of the premises in the nation, and satellite services to the rest. As no company (specifically Telstra, the now-publicly owned corporation responsible for the current copper network and the majority of mobile infrastructure in the nation) would have any part in this, the government created NBN Co (ironically, this was exactly how Telstra was founded). NBN co is a government owned corporation, that has designed, is currently building, and will maintain the network in the future, regardless of which plan goes ahead. The Coalition, which is likely to be voted into power this year, intends on changing the network plan to be "Fast. Affordable. Sooner," where NBN co will essentially be building half of the original NBN to nodes, then using the current copper network to reach the surrounding premises. This plan has been backed by Telstra, whom would be very happy to see their obsolete copper network still being used for another hundred years. If I suck at explaining it, here is a 4 minute explanation from a show on the Government station, & you can be sure as hell they don't say it like that on the commercial ones. And to all you non-Aussies, yes, that is pretty much what all the political commentary is like over here

So yeah.. Tony Abbott defeated big Kevin Rudd and as I'm sure you Australians out there know, Abbott intends on keeping the current copper network for a long time and is proposing the HUGE 25MB/S SPEEDS by 2019. UNPRECEDENTED IMO. /sarcasm Seriously, his plan with the 'partial' implementation of the NBN is illogical and the fact that they want to connect up the optic fibre through the ground, just for it to be bottlenecked by the copper network by the time the connection actually reaches a home is ridiculous. "25 megs is going to be enough - more than enough - for the average household". - Quote from our new PM. I'm on about 9mb/s download speeds and 0.32 upload. Yes... 0.32 and I live literally across the road from Telstra's broadband tower (Suburban area with ADSL2+) I hope things change but honestly, this is disappointing.

I'm moving this week and I'm getting NBN which is Australia's not so shit, but still shit broadband network. I was thinking about how to get the most out of the connection and was looking into routers, do routers effect wired speed or just wireless? Or are they just to boost bandwidth?

So. Some people know what the NBN is right? (National Broadband Network) Well. They use MTM (Multi Technology Mix) Which is made up of FTTP,FTTN, Hybrid Fibre Co-axial,Fixed Wireless and Satellite. ALSO Recently announced, Fibre to the Distribution Point. I don't have the NBN yet but I am apparently going to get HFC (Hybrid Fibre Co-axial) within the 2nd half of this Year. the NBN have announced DOCSIS 3.1 being released around June on the HFC network. Potentially making it up to 1GBPS speed capable. Although with all these recent complaints about how S**t the NBN is and how slower it is than what they ordered. I don't think If I'll get it. I may as well get Cable with Optus Which makes you pay up $80 for 30mbps down and 2mbps up. (Or 100mbps down and 2 mbps up for about $90-$100) Back when Labor was in charge they promised an ALL Fibre network. Then the Coalition (Liberal) came along and Stuffed it up by introducing MTM. Labor's plan would've costed in between: 44 Billion and 73 billion Dollars (AU) and Malcolm Turnbull said his plan would cost $29.5 billion then it rose to $41 billion, and then last year to "up to" $56 billion. Please correct me if I have forgotten anything critical here. Thought I'd just bring up a conversational topic. Thanks for readin'

Hi. I live in the Adelaide Metro area, the area that has had terrible wind over the past day or so. So, yesterday, my dad was home and then he took my sister to school. He got home and the internet was down, alongside our Foxtel box. The Foxtel has since come back on. I tried the usual things: Resetting the router I even went as far as unplugging our fibre box from the wall and plugging it back in. Today, my dad got the front cover off of our fibre box and it has revealed that there is a red light where the 'fibre' light is, and with further research (I am using the internet, not my own though) this means that our fibre box has lost connection with the fibre network. We are with Optus, and my dad has tried to ring Optus but couldn't stay on hold forever because he was using his mobile phone and he's only on prepaid. He didn't speak to anyone in the end but he might be able to call Optus from his work tonight. Any suggestions would be great, I can't use my internet on my ethernet devices like my gaming PC and it's killing me not being able to do things online. As I said, I'm somewhere and I'm using a free WiFi hotspot. Thanks, Alpha.
