Recently I encountered a weird issue with Firefox renderer I believe. I know that this should probably need to be addressed by the Firefox community, but I believe this forum is a good start and way more active than Mozillas. When I start playing a video on youtube it causes GPU spikes at over 60% utilization. If I kill that process, firefox restarts it with way less GPU usage, more in line with normal behaviour, at ~20%. Chrome allways uses way more GPU so that's why I'm sticking with Firefox. The graphics drivers are updated to the latest version both in Intels driver utility and in ASUS's updater. (it's a ASUS Vivobook notebook with I5 11300H and Nvidia 3050). I'm leaving here a unlisted youtube video for you to observe the behaviour. Feel free to give me any suggestion on this issue and also repost it or give a headsup to Mozilla if you have any contacts with them. OBS Screen recording

Hi. I love Thunderbird and for the longest time I wanted to use it as my default email client but I'm picky about looks, mainly fonts in this case. Thunderbird's default fonts are Serif for some reason and just look dated and horrible to look at, expecially coming from the Mail app on my iPhone and apple Mail on my past Mac (now maining a Windows laptop). To explain what Serif blutly means for those who don't know, it's those fonts that have characters end in 90 degrees "feet and hats", as seen expecially in letters that have some sort of straight lines like "d, h, i, l, m, n...". Sans-Seriff are on the other hand those fonts that have characters with straight clean lines with no "feet and hats", this is the best I can explain it. I think I finally succeded in changing the fonts in the preferences menu but even though they are all Calibri Sans-Serif in my email editor window, when I read the message on the recieving email the message still has a Serif font. Why? How do I change this? I attached some images: the one with dark theme is the email about to be sent The other one is the message recieved and viewed on thunderbird (the test is been done from my personal email address to my work one, both on thunderbird). The 3rd image, the one with the "reply, reply all..." heading is the same message viewed on my work email on the webmail portal. As you can se this Serif bull***t is a thunderbird fetish only. How can I get rid of it? Thanks.

Is it time to make browsers great again? Mozilla says yes. Source: CNET, Medium I don't know about you but browser wars never really made me excited. Remember back in 2010 when Microsoft was forced to respond to the reality that IE users are ditching it in favor of other browsers so they introduced Internet Explorer 9 which Microsoft claims the first browser to do GPU-accelerated browsing to make it fast. But the problem is that, IE 9's rendering engine Trident falls short when it comes to HTML5 compatibility. Now, Google Chrome is the most HTML5 compliant browser Project Quantum is basically what Microsoft did with Internet Explorer 9 up to Edge. Would Firefox 57 really shake up browsers again? From what they're saying, it's JIT compiling and GPU acceleration although anyone can correct me on this. What? Why? Hopefully performance and stability is better on Firefox 57. I encourage everyone to read the CNET article. But from the looks of it, Firefox is playing catch up with Chrome. Firefox 57 is also the update which will introduce multi-threaded processes just like Edge and Chrome. Hopefully they'll add sandboxing too. IE 7 I think was the first browser to do sandboxing by leveraging low privileges to the browser. Google Chrome implemented it better by sandboxing every tab opened so that if one tab crashes, the rest of the other tabs will remain unaffected and they even sandboxed Adobe Flash and other browser plugins. "Mozilla didn’t just survive. It’s gotten to a better place,” Beard says. “We’re back and we’re ready for the fight.” *Looking at this picture, I think Mozilla ripped off Daredevil's mask.

https://www.pcmag.com/news/368879/mozilla-to-launch-firefox-premium https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=de&u=https://t3n.de/news/mozilla-ceo-chris-beard-anbieten-1168614/3/&prev=search In a recent interview with German site t3n, Mozilla CEO Chris Beard confirmed that Mozilla is currently in the process of implementing a premium subscription model for Firefox. Current plans include an integrated VPN solution and potentially secure cloud storage. The stated motivation is to diversify their revenue streams, which is probably a good thing since, according to Beard, 90% of their revenue comes from search deals with Google, their main competitor. Beard reiterated that there are no plans to strip down or remove the currently available free edition of Firefox. Personally, I don't really care about any of those premium features, but as long as Firefox remains free and Mozilla gets more money, everyone wins.

Hello fellow LTT fans! I am curious what your thoughts are all on browsers - specifically between Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. I know LTT has done a video on browsers, and that chrome has the larger marketshare. However, people seem to like firefox for the anti-tracking and privacy aspects. What are your thoughts on these two browsers, which do you use and why?

Hi all, I primarily use Thunderbird as my desktop email client. I have configured Enigmail to handle my encrypted emails, but it has a default feature that isn't available to other users of PGP: it encrypts the subject line. While I would normally be elated by this, no other program is able to do that. Thus, my subject lines sent from Thunderbird always read "..." in any other email client. Does anyone know how to disable subject line encryption on Enigmail? Once other programs start doing this, I'll turn it back on immediately. But for now, I gotta turn this off. Thanks!

Hi all, I'm using Thunderbird 68.10.0 (64-bit) on macOS Catalina 10.15.5 I have multiple inboxes used on my client, mostly Google accounts but my primary one is non-Google and syncs via CalDav. Unfortunately, my tasks won't sync. In fact, adding a new task is a completely grayed-out option. Anyone else run into this issue? Attached is a screenshot of what I see, as well as the add-ons I'm running (minus Enigmail... I use that, too, but only had so much room in the screenshot ¯\_(ツ)_/¯). Happy to supply more details if needed. Thanks! ----- UPDATE: Welp, I figured this out myself. My service has a different CalDav address between calendars and tasks. Whoops!

So I'm trying to screen capture me scrolling through a website on Mozilla. Is there a recommended add-on or script that would help with a smooth scrolling experience for capture purposes?

Source: https://www.theverge.com/2017/12/16/16784628/mozilla-mr-robot-arg-plugin-firefox-looking-glass Short version: Mozilla automatically installed a third party extension for a TV series if you agreed to send telemetry to Mozilla (opt-out not opt-in). I'm sure somewhere within all the terms and conditions\EULA it says Mozilla is allowed to do this but I doubt users expected Mozilla to do this, especially considering it has been positioning Firefox as the browser that respects user privacy and control.

Problem: Opera and Google Chrome keeps saying that I have no internet connection even though I have. OS: Windwos 7 Pro 64bit. Specs: Lenovo Thinkpad T420. Bios Version: LENOVO 83ET79WW (1.49 ), 9/5/2016 More info: I opened the Private Browsing of Opera and enabled the VPN function and it works. Disabling it makes it not work. Private Browsing of Google Chrome does not work. I am using Mozilla FireFox the latest version to post this. I tried to reinstall the Google Chrome and restart the laptop it does not work. What do you think the cause of the problem? Is it my ISP? Hope somebody can help me.

Hi everyone, I have a quick question. For work, my employer uses Team eHub, which requires the use of Microsoft Silverlight. At work, everything is fine with their Windows 7 machines, but at home I cannot access the site. I have downloaded Silverlight, but cannot seem to get Edge, Explorer, Mozilla, or Chrome to work with the Silverlight application. I get the alert that it is no longer going to be supported, but is it not supported within Windows 10. I think I'd be wrong assuming Windows 10 should support other Microsoft applications and software. I'm currently trying to dig up my old laptop for Windows 7. Has anyone else had Silverlight issues with Windows 10, and is there a workaround? Thanks in advance.

Millions of Firefox user might be vulnerable to a new kind of exploit. It uses a weakness in Mozillas Browser: lacking compartmentalisation of extensions. By using the capabilities and privileges of one or more of the vulnerable extensions, attacker could force a Browser to open a Website containing malicous content and eventually execute arbitrairy code on the victim's machine. Of the top 10 most popular add-ons vetted by Mozilla officials and made available on the Mozilla website, only Adblock Plus was found to contain no flaws. The Attack seem to be in the proof-of-concept stage, there are no reports of the vulnerability being exploited in the wild. EDIT: For the attack to be properly executed, a victim would have to download a compromised add-on in the first place. The Ball is now in Mozilla's park since only a proper vetting of extensions would lead to a short-term resolution of the problem. Hey guys, Don't know if others are experiencing this or not. But from about 4 days ago. I'm facing a great peril. It seems that When I turn on my pc and open up google and make a search, as the instant search feature's on for me. its coming about fine. But when i close that tab and open another google tab both on my mozilla firefox. I'm unable to search anything as no search results appear for any phrase. Refreshing doesn't help. Rebooting the system doesn't help either. Not a router problem either. Other sites are loading instantly as usual, just google. And the funny thing is that google's responding quite great as the website's fine but when i make a search its going wacko... The only extensions i have in firefox are : Ad Block Plus and Zenmate that's it... No themes, nothing. What do i do? and how do i cure it? I've attached some screenshots as reference to this awkward topic.

Hong Kong based startup firm, Acadine Technologies, run by a former president of Mozilla is reportedly taking up the mantle of FirefoxOS by continuing work on its own derivative system, H5OS. With Mozilla's relegating of FirefoxOS to the back burner H5OS may take its primary mover position to head off on a wild tangent of its own devising rather than kowtow to the original FirefoxOS mission statement. Acadine Technologies is still a fledgling startup. It is in line for second round financing from various VC's and companies. They claim to be a more focused Silicon Valley style startup than a "Chinese" company. And made the decision to incorporate in Hong Kong rather than the US OR Mainland China in order to maintain connections and accessibility across the globe. And they invite further investment from western partners to assuage any concerns and more solidly tie themselves to the global market than a regional or political one. Mozilla is not dropping FirefoxOS entirely but has apparently dropped its agreements with various carriers. Which seriously hobbles its future in mainstream mobile handsets. Acadine is pursuing a similar setup to what Mozilla was aiming for before, by angling for agreements with carriers worldwide for market access for its devices running H5OS. Hello guys, I hope this info will be helpful to anyone who is using FF and youtube center. Recently youtube center stopped working (maybe 5 days ago) and reinstalling the plug in did not work. I found an article on reddit how to bring it back to life. 1. Install greasemonkey add-on from the "store" 2/ Google the youtube center developer build and click on the "userscript" 3. Greasemonkey will detect it and will ask you to install it 4. Install and Finish - it should work as it was before (minus the initial configuration of the addon)

Sourced from Mozilla: https://discourse.mozilla-community.org/t/firefox-os-connected-devices-announcement/6864 Here's the crux of the announcement: Firefox OS was initially shown in 2013 aiming for a platform focussed on a web-first approach. They were targeting low end markets but ultimately were doomed to fail once android devices ramped up their low-end focus. Have you had a chance to try their OS? It interested me but I never was in the market for low-end phones.

As some of you may know (many of you may not), Mozilla is now finally, finally, finally offering an official (read: not "Waterfox"), stable 64-bit release (version 43) of Firefox on their download page. Here is what I'd like to know before potentially blowing up my current 32-bit installation for those of you who've installed it and tried it: If you install over your current 32-bit installation, does it "take the place of" the 32-bit version, or is it a separate instance, like how IE 64-bit acts (IE 32-bit and IE 64-bit are separate apps)? How is "extension" support? I'm aware that there's limited "plugin" support (it ironically still supports Flash), but do some of the more-popular extensions play nice? Think top-10 extensions. How do 3rd party apps already on your system that use the "default browser" (Firefox) behave? Are they going to blow up, or is that hard to say? For example, a 3rd-party RSS reader that uses the "standard external browser"? Are bookmarks, history, and cache preserved from the 32-bit installation if it "takes the place of" the 32-bit version? Btw, I'm not interested in the "omg you idiot, theres no benefit whatsoever from using 64-bit over 32-bit" discussion so I ask that you please refrain from that discussion. I'm ONLY looking for your own personal experience here in an attempt to prevent blowing up my system. I remember the early Waterfox days of 2012 completely fucked the Firefox installation so that's kinda why I'm asking. Thanks for the on-topic replies.

A few days ago Mozilla announced their first ever set of awards to projects Mozilla relies on. The awards are money that goes towards different purposes. Some of the money will go towards interesting and beneficial things, such as 25,000 dollars to Discourse which will be used to develop email services in their software (with the hopes of replacing mailing lists). One of the awards however has caused some controversy. Buildbot, the open source project Mozilla uses to automatically build software is going to receive 15,000 dollars and will be used to "remove the term 'slave from all documentation, APIs and tests". To be fair, the money is also going to make Buildbot work better with Amazon EC2 cloud, but that comes second. It seems like the word "slaves" will be replaced by "replicants" or some other form of it. Since Buildbot uses the master/slave model, the word "slave" is used all throughout the documentation and code (example here). Rewriting that will be a fairly large project. This is not the first time Mozilla is fighting for political correctness. A few months ago an anonymous Mozilla developer complained on Reddit about how Christie Koehler was "batshit insane and permanently offended at everything". Shortly after those posts Mozilla's CEO made a public statement threatening to fire the anonymous employee if he was found. It seems like Mozilla is working very hard for political correctness ever since their previous CEO was forced to step down last year after it was revealed that he had donated 1000 dollars to Proposition 8 (anti-gay marriage bill) a few years earlier. If you are a donator to Mozilla, how do you feel about this? Do you think your money is going towards a good cause or do you think that your money is being wasted? Are you a developer and if so, are you careful with your words in order to minimize the risk of someone getting offended by your code and documentation? Source: Mozilla's Blog

Wired reports that Amazon, Google, Intel, Microsoft, Mozilla, Netflix, and Cisco have teamed up to create a new video format in order to replace Adobe Flash. It is designed to work on low powered devices at an amazing quality. It will also support copy protection. The format will be released under the Apache 2.0 License which means it's open source and royalty free. It does not have a name yet. I just downloaded firefox to check it out yesterday but when I watch YouTube so many frames are getting dropped (almost every 2-3 seconds), is it because I just installed it? or because I messed with some settings? BTW, it doesn't happen in chrome.
