I'm trying to use 'motion' on a 2006-era macbook with a cheap 2002-era external webcam. The webcam works fine, and I can record as much as I want with ffmpeg, but for some reason the 'motion' software is struggling terribly. Example: in a 30 second clip recorded by 'motion', 80% of all frames are dropped (typically I get 5 seconds of video followed by a static frame) Why is it so horrible? I could just leave this computer recording the entire day and it won't have as many dropped frames, but when motion is processing it everything drops. I'm using the default configuration file that comes with Arch Linux (aur repo ; attached below) ############################################################ # System control configuration parameters ############################################################ # Start in daemon (background) mode and release terminal. daemon off # Start in Setup-Mode, daemon disabled. setup_mode off # File to store the process ID. ; pid_file value # File to write logs messages into. The camera captures in mjpeg and so if possible I would *like* to just copy the video stream from the camera without any transcoding (but motion doesn't seem to allow that). What are my options to get this to a reasonable state? I'd like to avoid upgrading to new hardware because the next step for this laptop is the bin (and I prefer to avoid creating e-waste if I can)

Blender: Strange motion tracking jitter?
Mr Technician posted a topic in Programs, Apps and Websites
Let me start by saying that I had a successful camera track and solve of some footage I had prepared in blender with a large number of highly visible tracking points. The majority of the tracking points remained throughout the entire shot and checking individual tracks in the track preview window showed that the trackers stayed properly centered on each point. I was working on setting up my scene and decided to call it a night, but I ended up opening blender again a few minutes later. To my confusion, there was a very noticeable jitter in the track and I could see my model sliding around the footage, whereas before I closed the software the model was locked to the footage. I checked through each point and saw that each and every point lost the track at the exact same time and in the exact same way (the track "slipped" in the same directions for each). This surprised me as each of the tracks had been successfully locked to their respective tracking points before. I had not locked the points so I assumed something had caused them all to shift, so I cleared the tracks and started over. Everything was fine until this morning, when I opened Blender and found that each of my LOCKED points had "jittered" at the exact same times and in the exact same ways, ruining the track again. I'm really at a loss for what to do here. Update: I've played around with this further and it appears to be an issue with switching from the motion tracking view to the default view. Even if I apply the camera solver constraint while in the motion tracking view, creating actual keyframes for the camera position, it will still ruin the track when I switch back to the default mode. Update 2: The issue appears to be an issue with a mismatched background video file that starts at a different time than the track. -
Hey there as my post title says I am having issues with my mouse movements are stiff and can make it hardier to. I am using Razer speed edition desk size and tried HP omen it is almost same as the Razer one. ???maybe get hard cover mouse pads that I think its has a metal surface for smooth and fast. Yours Elite.

I'm looking to build my new Motion-Design PC. The programs which I will use are Rendering with CPU (Cinema4D, Nuke...) and GPU (After Effects, Octane...). CPU: Intel Core i7 6800K (LGA 2011-v3, 3.40GHz, Unlocked) Graphics Card: 2x EVGA GTX 980 Ti Superclocked+ ACX 2.0+ Motherboard: ASUS X99-A II (LGA 2011-v3, Intel X99, ATX) RAM: Corsair Vengeance LED (4x, 8GB, DDR4-3000) (Probably gonna upgrade to 8x8GB later?) Storage 1: Samsung 950 Pro (256GB, M.2 2280) Storage 2: Samsung 850 EVO Basic (1000GB, 2.5") Power Supply: Corsair RM850x (850W) CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro Series H100i v2 Case: Corsair Carbide 400C Operating System: Windows 10 So my questions for this build are: Is this Motherboard a good choice and is the RAM compatible with it? Is the Power Supply good, or would the RM750x be strong enough? Is it better to buy 2x GTX 980 Ti (5632 CUDA Cores) or wait for the upcoming GTX 1080 Ti (3456 CUDA Cores)?

The crowd funded project " Ampy" has been a bitter disappointment to backers. Some have called it Or The "Ampy" was meant to be a battery bank that would charge via motion. The way it would achieve this is by internals magnets that would create a current to store energy. Although the battery could also be charged via plug, the Kinect charging has been its strongest selling point but its terrible! :I seems that was a lie however: This means that you'd most likely die by exhaustion before getting your phone fully charged. IT JUST ISN'T WORTH IT!! Original Link: BBC NEWS

So, I'm gonna be controversial. Why not use a display (Namely, tv) which uses motion interpolation? I mean, apart for competitive gaming in which every millisecond is important. For every other type of gaming isn't it a good way to get smooth immersive feel and look without a super powered PC?

Hello everybody So my friend told me that laptops other than Macbooks (he's a HUGE Apple fanboy) don't have a way to protect their hard drives when they fall, unlike Sudden Motion Sensors on Macs (apparently). Is that true ? I don't know if I can trust him, since he's clearly for one side... Thanks !

I usually leave my laptop beside the windows sill (small dorm room and such), and since the window is slightly open, and this is Canada, it gets pretty cold. I turned it on to install the new windows update and I saw some massive ghosting that I don't remember it having. The ghosting was perceivable if I payed attention, but this is very obvious. So my question is, does the temperature influence the performance of the monitor (I know of the obvious side effects of heat) Its the 2014 razer blade, so its got a 3k IGZO panel (not sure if its ips or va) Link to the slow-mo video: https://www.dropbox.com/s/2q4wts6w8s2m1ar/VIDEO0166.mp4?dl=0

I am debating between two TVs at the moment. After going to ABT and looking at them, I am looking at the following.... Sony 55" Black Ultra HD 4K LED 3D HDTV - XBR-55X850Bhttp://www.abt.com/product/79533/Sony-XBR55X850B.html Samsung 55" Black UHD 4K LED Smart HDTV - UN55HU6950FXZAhttp://www.abt.com/product/81786/Samsung-UN55HU6950FXZA.html Right now, I am leaning towards the Sony due to its better colors. It just rubs me the right way. What is the ClearMotion Rate? Both of these are 240, but there were others that were 960 or 1200. I've read that its the motion blur, so is that a good or bad thing? Do I want this or no? I tend to watch alot of sports (baseball, hockey, football, basketball) and movies. I am NOT planning to game on this TV. Thanks for the help LTT community! It's greatly appreciated!

Im pretty sure this video i made says all i need it to... Motion Capture via algorithm is getting pretty damn good. Its in beta at the moment, and you can download your own models to animate with, or make your own currently i believe. Kerrigan from starcraft is out there somewhere, ive seen people playing with it. My friend showed me the other day, Its available on steam. https://www.facerig.com/ ack i guess i should say more...It does eye capture, somewhat well, when the cat moves his eyes i am moving mine, not pulling them on a string. The mouth movements switch based on accuracy between lip syncing with audio levels and mouth movements. It measures itself to see how well its doing, and if it drops below a percentage it stops working. Super awesome, been playing for days. This is just me recording with Camtasia, it monitoring my movements via webcam, no stickers or IR, and replicating them to the best of the algorithms ability to guess how im moving. I thought it did pretty damn well. Mind the swearing . The program is still in beta but i think they were trying to work on capturing hand movements as well, as long as they stayed relatively away from the face, i think that would be possible as well. Maybe with a plugin for Leapmotion and the like.

I'm sure most of you might have heard of this but there may be some that never heard of this. So I found the perfect way to have Windows 8 on your desktop and not have to use a touchscreen monitor. https://www.leapmotion.com/ That is your answer. Use your Desktop like a Tablet. No need for a complex tablet to computer controller shizz, just plug it in and install the drivers and BAM. (i dont work for these guys but its really cool)

I'm sure many of you will be extremely excited to hear this, but the new Kinect will be coming as a separate device to work with windows. The most terrifying part of this is: http://www.theverge.com/2013/5/21/4353868/microsofts-new-kinect-will-be-coming-to-windows?utm_source=feedly Let's hope out PCs can still work and Windows 8.1 does not require this to be plugged in...

Pretty sweet keyboard! A lot like the Leap Motion but integrated. Kinda funny that it's made by Microsoft yet they are using a Mac keyboard. Excited to see if this comes to market. Source: http://www.engadget.com/2014/04/29/microsoft-motion-sensing-keyboard/ Edit: Found the Engadget source: http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/projects/typehoverswipe/

what do you guys think of this? And one thing bother me is, why is it called mechanical keyboard when it is using membrane switch.

Don't know if this was posted or not but a search said no. Also don't know if it should be in the news section or not so if a mod disagrees, kindly move it. He integrated a Leap Motion with designing software. This is amazing. It's very similar to the Iron Man hologram UI. He shows it off with a 3D model and spinning it around and moving it with hand motions. He then uses it with holograms, the 3D glasses you get in current movies, and the Oculus Rift which is so awesome. What do you guys think about it? What future uses could we have for this kind of technology? How awesome is Elon Musk? Edit : To clarify and to fix my mistakes on this, he uses Leap Motion to design the rockets. It's amazing, might revolutionize 3D designing, might not, but looks awesome.

I have found a little gadget called the 'Leap Motion Controller'- basically it allows you to control your computer like you control an Xbox with the kinect and (not sure if any of the staff read any of these posts) I would like Linus to review to see if it is worth buying. That is pretty much it. Here is a link to their website: https://www.leapmotion.com/

So this is amazing ..... here is the link to their kickstater, https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/yeitechnology/priovr-suit-up-game-on?ref=discovery at the time i am posting this they have funded it already.... So what this is, is a full body suit with sensors on it that captures your movements and can input them into a game. This would be amazing with an Oculus Rift
-
Guise, I'm srs. Just imagine playing Star Citizen with Oculus rift an leap motion to be able to see your real hand movement inside the game when wearing the rift. The Guys at Oculus need to get their hands one some leap motion controlers ASAP. For you that already forgot what leap motion is, It's a relatively cheap motion controler which tracks and interprets your motions without any extra hardware besides the motion-tracking plate. It was a thing a few years ago in our comunity, but lack of good software support (read no games), and bad reception of OEM's generally (HP included it in some of its laptops AFAIK and that's about it) basically killed it off. https://www.leapmotion.com/ Now use your imagiantion, using a sim like EVE online, test drive unlimited, a tower defense game or whatever you feel like with the oculus rift in conjunction with leap motion. It would be immersive as hell.

I have a very annoying and prominent issue when playing and sort of high-fidelity games on my PC. When in game, if I pan the camera around a bit, the edges of features that are high contrast go dark. It is as if my PC isn't handling the motion properly. The only thing I can think would be causing it would be maybe setting the AA settings too high for my PC or my monitor. Also I don't have to have any other software running on my PC for the issue to be apparent. The sort of games that I own and have noticed this issue with: Star Citizen Hangar Skyrim Left 4 Dead 2 GTAIV etc Doesn't seem to be isolated to any particular game or game engine. My monitor is the Sony PlayStation TV that was release a while back, it has a VA panel. Doesn't mean much to me but maybe someone here knows if that is the issue. My PC specs should be in my signature. Videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCx5rGfHTtA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uAVns2PuuKs
