Greetings everyone, I did quite a bit of scouting and I feel like my query is very specific so here goes. Current gear: 4x Eaton 3000VA 9PX - each with a 2/3kVA Extended Battery Module - All running their own dedicated power circuits coming from different main boards. Each are equipped with a Management Network Card and we have setup SNMP 2 Server Racks - 2 Eaton System per rack Load balancing - every server that has 2 PSU is plugged into different UPS Based on loads we have roughly 30 minutes of runtime on battery (its more but I'm leaving the extra as buffer) Dell Servers running VMware with Vcenter running on one of the hosts - HA is not available to us based on license We also have a few BareMetal servers running a mix of Windows / Ubuntu Current Software: IPM2 Hate the fact that this needs to be a VM, even if it means hosting it on a separate host that is not critical. Even though I can successfully create connectors to our hosts I don't always get clean shutdowns on Guest OS and then the host will hang and not shutdown. Lets just say it will do 80% of the job right. Let's be honest, the reason we are currently using it, is because its a native software that will talk to those UPS and allow you to implement automations based on different states. Details: We occasionally get power outages and in most cases power comes back within a good time frame, however we want to cover the scenarios where it doesn't. Two scenarios that we want to make sure we cover are: A. If input/utility power is off AND UPS Battery has reached 60% start shutdown process (whether by actions or scripts) B. If temperature of attached Sensors reach Critical Threshold start shutdown process We also make sure that this happens even if 1 UPS goes down, so for instance if during the night, that one circuit breaker trips and the UPS goes on battery, once that UPS gets to 60%, we expect a notification that the servers will start shutting down. Alas it doesn't always play nice. Looking for: A platform that will not only tap into the UPS using SNMP but also act on what is getting reported. Nothing is stopping us from remoting in and doing a shutdown process once we've been notified, but we want to cover ourselves when we're out of business hours (deep sleep). I've been looking at a lot of systems, PRTG, Zabbix, Observium, 10-Strike Network Pro - Pulseway - DataDog - LanSweeper - NinjaOne - Nagios - CheckMk All have different functionalities I know, I even started looking at NUT but there I'm really going into the deep dive and I don't know if I want to go down that rabbit hole. Also a lot of those will "monitor" SNMP but won't do much more than that. Some I've looked at more than others. I was hoping there was a platform that would monitor a network where I could also have our workstations etc.. but also tap into our UPS SNMP and then based on state, initiate script or trigger a shutdown action on "hosts" / agents. There are some requirements though because we do have AD as a VM and don't want a system that relies on it, we do have static IP for every important system. It also means we'd prefer an on-prem system or at least that we can run on on-prem. We also want to keep this system separate aka its the 1st machine on and the last one off. The idea here is, said system succeeded at shutting down everything important, it then shuts itself down. The hurdle here would be for us to trigger it awake but we should be able to trigger this directly with a UPS and having it on a separate segment. We'd have to play with that idea. But in a nutshell that Monitoring/Controller system in the event of UPS issue: Guest OS Shutdown 1st -> Hosts -> Standalone BareMetal Servers -> NAS -> Itself (upon completion, whether it can check or not is a different story, maybe a ping, I don't know) With all that said, I did like the idea of dealing with a platform that had different OS agents, to me having an agent installed on each systems, means that it has proper access to the system and will take commands from the controller regardless of it being part of the domain or not. This is why I have my doubts with some of these cloud platforms, if the server room loses the UPS that's powering the gateways/modems (for whatever reason), and we lose internet, i'd like to hope said system is still ploughing along at shutting down everything it can. I don't think there is a perfect system/solution but getting close to it would be nice. Yes at the moment I'm looking at a Software Solution because shutting down gracefully our critical systems is important to us. And no, we're not venturing into Backup Generator, using ATS etc... We're not at that stage yet, and building logistics are going to be hell. To be honest that's a more expensive venture vs us succeeding at shutting down nicely our systems and bringing them back up when safe to do so. Also replacing the EATONs isn't really an option, we still have plenty of time left with these. Would love to hear about other setups or how other people deal with some of these scenarios and there's plenty of scenarios but I'm really concentrating on the main two I mentioned earlier. I'm definitely open to discussion, can definitely elaborate more on the setup and also maybe a reality check on my part to see if I'm really looking at this the right way or not. Just to give everyone a bit of background: I'm a father to three kids. Two of which now have their own phones (Samsung Galaxy S8 & Samsung Galaxy A71). I've set up both devices so that I have complete control over their accounts and I can monitor what they're doing (within a degree of course). I trust them to do the right thing. But because they're only 12 and 11 years old, I'd rather have a bit more oversight without having to look at each device each night when they go to bed. I've had issues in the recent past with my eldest receiving bullying via messages and I've not found out until late that night when he's in bed or even a day or two afterwards. I'm an IT project engineer along with a small team, covering a large cluster of local hospitals providing on site support wherever it's needed. So long hours and always a lot of worik to be done. Unfortunately that means I can't always be there for them (they live with their mother) and it also means I can't monitor things as often as I'd like. So I want to make sure that I can keep track of things any time of the day to give me peace of mind and then if the need arises, I can act should there be the need to. So, to the punch line: I'm looking for some recommendations for some software or app that will allow me greater access to all aspects of their devices. I've read about apps that give you additional parental settings. But I find this restricts what the device can do, rather than give them the freedom and responsibility I've entrusted them with. I already have Teamviewer installed on both phones so if I'm not home, they can just give me a call and I can connect remotely. Also tried installing some silent apps that record some data and then email me with a large data file which I find okay. But not exactly what I'm looking for. I'd prefer a live feed if possible rather than anything historic.And utilizing software for corporate use is not exactly a cost effective means of monitoring only 2 devices. I've come across a piece of software called XNSPY. But thought I'd get some opinions and then make a more informed decision rather than jump at something that can potentially do more harm than good. hello once more dear community i am looking for a good looking, freelie configurable monitoring software for an in-case display i want to monitor: CPU and GPU: temp / speeds / util maybe drives if there is enough space left on my 5" display and everything stays readable needs to have, or be able to be configured to a black and white (or custom) color sceme i already tried aida64's doodad, but for some reason it keeps crashing due to some readout error every time its trying to grab the sensors HWmonitor, HWinfo, nzxt CAM, afterburner and such are not what i am looking for CAM is close to what i want, but i want to arrange the readouts to my liking and adjust color pls hit me with any sudgestions. i really hope that there is somthing like that out there any help is greatly appriciated edit: it does not necessarily have to be free, but would be nice

Does anyone know of any software that I can use to monitor the usage and temperatures of the components in my system? Preferably I'd like to be able to see how much my CPU, GPU, and RAM are being used and the temperatures all in the same app.

I actually have a serial tool, an AVRT5 APRS amateur radio GPRS tracker. It is made in China and poorly documented. To configure this device there is a Windows software written it seems in visual primary that genuinely sends and reads the configuration by serial port. The device comes with a Prolific USB serial converter. The software turned into no more hard to run below Wine than Windows (both needed downloading DLL and OCX documents and registering them). The problem got here whilst I tried to opposite engineer the configuration protocol. Under Linux ordinarily, that might be easy. I attempted all the standard equipment and a few uncommon ones too. Here are a few examples socat strace slsnif https://linux.Die.Net/man/1/slsnif jpnevulator, http://jpnevulator.Snarl.Nl/ For some of them I made a virtual serial port and mapped that to COM3 on wine. (I also used WireShark that could intercept USB visitors and that worked best however I didn't apprehend the output, perhaps there were a number of manage bytes for the USB now not simply serial data) All had the identical problem (except WireShark). As soon as the sniffer became energetic the config software could not speak with the tool. I could intercept the command "SETUP" coming from the software however the tool did now not reply Then I attempted home windows port sniffer Serial Port Monitor https://www.serial-port-monitor.org/ (unfastened trial version) This said it couldn't find a serial port. So in the end I tried a Windows 7 laptop and Serial Port Monitor labored beautifully. It turned out the config application opened the port on 9600 N81 and despatched simple and obvious ASCII strings with a 0xD 0xA termination. But why should I no longer get it to work below Wine whilst a lot of these techniques work first-rate for everyday Linux programs?

Summary After more than a year of development the open source monitoring suite openITCOCKPIT got released in version 4. With an own Monitoring Agent the system is able to monitor Windows, Linux, macOS, Docker containers and Qemu VMs out of the box. DevOps guys can use the API to automatically add or remove objects from the monitoring. The installation and future updates are done via the package manager apt. openITCOCKPIT uses the Naemon Core (a fork of the Nagios Core) but all configuration files gets generated by the web interface. Having an easy to use tool, which contains all the must haves for a modern monitoring like Reporting or an Grafana integration should be a big plus for a lot of the admins out there. Hi, Just finished my first build and I am looking for a software, that can monitor my cpu and gpu temps ( plus ideally framerate and other stuff ). Important thing is, that I want it to be able to display them ingame like just a little overlay in a screencorner or something. Would be amazing, if it could also do it in normal windows, so I can check my temps at a glance without using alt+tab. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance. Kalcifer
