Does anyone where to buy minecraft and also do you need a mojang account or is it using a Microsoft account now. Sorry if this in the wrong thread not sure if the gaming one would have been better? Thanks

For example if youtube issued that promotion on the videos is no longer tolerated and that you should only profit from ads instead, that would be a fairly similar situation. Makes video content more appealing to the user as there's no promotions on it, but hurts the content creator(s) incredibly. For those of you whom this is completely irrelevnt, I apologise for wasting your time with this but if you do find this relevant or know anyone else who does please do share it so that everyone is informed about this Feel free to leave your opinion at the bottom, I'm quite curious to see what people think of the situation here

To celebrate the 20 Million milestone, Mojang has decided to host a live broadcast for the members of the ubiquitous Reddit forum. The members will be able to ask questions to Mobile developers of the game, including the lead developer Jens Bergensten. Minecraft Pocket Edition has been on the first spot on the Android’s Play Store paid games and on the second spot on the Apple’s App Store for quite a long time now. The game is 30th top grossing game on both the Play Store and App Store with some Free-to-play titles ahead of it. I'm not too sure what to think of this. Would you guys think Notch would sell off Mojang? I couldn't see Mojang being a part of Microsoft, but I guess this mean Xbox One/Xbox 360 users will get exclusive Minecraft content if this deal were to be true. Source: Link

This is Tech News, right? Summary Since its inception, the security behind Minecraft accounts have been, well shit. But not anymore! Now, all new Minecraft Accounts in 2021 will be linked to a Microsoft Account, and all existing Minecraft/Mojang accounts will have to be converted into a Microsoft Account. Mojang is gearing up to start this transition in early 2021. Unlike the change that happened in like what, 2013? This transition is Mandatory, meaning if you do not convert your Mojang account, you will not be able to play. This will bring 2FA, added security, and parental controls to Minecraft: Java Edition. You'll also receive a "special" cape, which won't be so "special" because literally everyone else will be getting it... woo... Everything will be kept, including skins and IGNs. All that's changing is the infrastructure behind the account. Quotes My thoughts 2FA. Need I say more? This is something that the Minecraft community has been lacking for years, and for it being the most popular game in the world it was actually shocking to see that its security level is just a single email to a possibly breached account. No 2FA apps, no special recovery code, hell not even an SMS verification code. Just a link in an email. Actually appalling. A change is overdue in this department. I don't know if I would've seen this specifically coming at all, but at the same time why reinvent the wheel when you're owned by one of the largest and one of the best tire companies? This will break all 3rd party launchers as soon as this transition starts, but so did the first transition, so that's pretty much a given. Overall I think this will be a positive change. I guess boohoo to the people that really hate Microsoft and how they spy on people yet have Google/YouTube and Facebook accounts to complain about it (that's seriously beyond me), but this change was long overdue and I'm glad it finally happened.
