ok, it has been patented: Application Number: US-201313802943-A https://portal.unifiedpatents.com/patents/patent/US-9157624-B2 has anyone seen it being produced? Maybe not modular but at least serviceable. I do not mind if I have to desolder an old and solder back a new component that is not microscopic. I do not even mind paying a premium for that. Has anyone seen something like that?

Hi all, I'm trying to figure out the pinout of my AGV750 8pin GPU connector. It's semi modular and I got it without the 8pin cable that came in the box. I've been testing every pin coming out of the PSU (Not the cable) and I can't tell which pins are the sense A and B. I jumped the PSU between pins 4 and 5 to turn it on without being in a computer (The fans are spinning and the output voltage coming from the random pins I was testing was 2.7v. I'm assuming due to the lack of a load) Is there a surefire way to tell which pins they are? Please let me know! I'm planning on figuring out the pinout and swapping the cables around so it works normally with this random cable. Please let me know your thoughts! Thank you!

I’m trying to build a custom case and I’m trying to make it pretty small. I have an i7 9700k with a gtx 1070. A flex psu would be nice to use for my build. What would you recommend be the proper wattage? In refence to this topic.

My daughter is looking for a new laptop. She is going to heading to college soon but isn't sure what she wants as of yet. I personally want to have some sort of upgrade path on it just incase she decides to switch her degree and needs more ram or storage. Any suggestions? She wants long battery life and something light that she can carry. Any suggestions? She currently uses a MacBook Air 2016 Intel I3

Hey guys does anyone know if these exist? I've tried looking but can't find a modular 700w flex psu, can someone please help I want to use it for an itx build. I found the non modular versions on Amazon but I want to get custom cables so that it can fit in a 4ltr case. Thanks

Hi I'm planning to buy a new psu for my system, my old one actually is still work well and only about 1 month old, it's aerocool lux RGB 550w semi modular. I want to change it because last week 2 of my drive died, I don't know if it's the power supply fault but i already return my old one. I'm looking at these 2 models: 1. Cougar LX 500w it's about $50-$55, is tier B in the list and brand new. 2. Cooler Master v850 gold for about $70, is either tier B+ or A I don't know the production date, but is used and warranty up to 2023. My system: Ryzen 5 3500 Inno3d gtx1070 Asrock b450m steel legend Lexar nm610(I think?still on RMA forgot the name) 500gb Wd 2tb hdd(planning) Cooler Master 212 turbo 4x fan case My question is: 1. Is it worth the premium to get the v850 gold? I believe 500w is enough to drive my system. 2. Why is the v850 sold so cheap used, I found at least 3 that is priced similarly, is there issue with it? I mean it's half price. 3. Should I RMA it right away when I do get the v850? Thank you.

At the end of this thread: I've decided to change my PSU shortly. 'Shortly' became ASAP as the PSU decided to emit some lovely crackling sounds during the weekend. I'm no electrical engineer, but I know that it's not a good sign. So, I've decided to retire this 5+ years old PSU for good. I've made a little list of the features I would really love to have. Must-haves: Modularity - modular, or at the very least semi-modular. I don't have a psu shroud in my case and cable management would be time-consuming otherwise Quiet - doesn't have to be fan-less or anything fancy like that. I use my pc for work, and during meeting the PSU noise it's particularly distracting. The unit I'm replacing does 60dB under load (not even reaching 80% of the rated capacity), if it can beat this, that's good for me Wattage - it needs enough wattage to power my current rig of course (i5 4460 - R9 390). I'm planning to get a new rig with the upcoming launches (Ryzen 4000, Rtx 3000, RDN2) and I would like to have enough wattage to keep the PSU. I was planning to go with a 1080/1440p @144hz system. Rumor has it that the 3000 series will consume around 3/400w. I'm really torn on the wattage. You'll really have to help me out on this one What I don't care about: 80+ rating - could be diamond or white for all that matters. I don't care about efficiency, as long the psu is reliable RGB - don't hate it or like it, I wouldn't pay a premium for it tho Sleeving - don't care much about it, as my case has a really tiny window. Besides, I could get some cablemod sleeved cables in the future Budget: I don't really have one. Guess it mostly depends on the wattage I'll choose to go with. I'll spend any (reasonable) amount of cash for a PSU that can deliver. Cheaping out on one the most important (if not THE most important) component in the system is a mistake, I've learned that the hard way.

My current build has a psu problem and I'm looking to change/upgrade my power supply but I'm worried about comparability as I have a 16 pin Rx 5700 xt GPU and I am not sure if the psu will support it. What psu for 100£ or less in the UK will fit in my build ? 500w +

Hey there, I am looking for a PC Case that I can use for a backup/spare/test rig PC. I have my main gaming rig complete but I want to have a case with a PSU, SSD, AiO Cooler that stay in it so I can "hot-swap" Motherboards/Ram/CPU to test builds and components with. I would like for the case to be as small as possible but I'd value ease of access over size if it came down to it, the case MUST support standard ATX motherboards. I will be switching from Intel to AMD motherboards OFTEN to test different CPU's so being able to get my hands in there without it being a time consuming PIA is a big deal. I was originally looking at open-air test bench "cases" but since this will be used in bursts and then sitting for a long time I want something that wont accumulate so much dust on the components, easier to dust off the top of a case than compressed air an open rig, plus I can't seem to find any decent ones in stock anywhere. This one looked cool. I have been quite pleased with the accessibility on my gaming rig: ASUS TUF Gaming GT501 Mid-Tower but that's a bit overkill and larger than what I'd like for this test rig. Any recommendations are welcome! Ease of access is my biggest concern.

Hi everyone. I was wondering if you can suggest some good, reliable, 80+ gold power supplies, semi-modular or modular. Around 550W would be nice. Or lower, these are the specs that i have : - CPU : Intel Core i7 6700k - CPU Cooler : Hyper 212 Evo - Video Card : AMD R9 280OC (250W TDP on the techpowerup site, the only one where i've found the TDP for this card) - 16 GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 RAM @ 3000MHz - Motherboard : ASUS Z170-a Thanks!

Is a semi-modular psu worth the extra 10/20, on a build with a very tight budget.

Really don't know what to go for at this point, I don't do AIO so I'm really stuck between these 2 choices. Help me with the casing alongside with pros and cons.

Source: https://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2017/5/30/15713394/intel-compute-card-pocket-pc-computex-2017-lg-dell-lenovo Looks like there will be 4 variants, all passively cooled with no word on price. Interesting product, they seem to be aiming it as a reference device for manufacturers. I'd be interested in the modularity concept where these slide in a 'Laptop' dock and a 'Desktop' dock. Perhaps even a tablet of mobile dock?

Hi! I'm building my parents a low tier, basic computer. I'd like to take this opportunity to upgrade my own 550 watt PSU to a 650 or 750 just because I'm using a 6800K and would like to maybe overclock it in the future. SO I'm gonna put my 550 watt into my parent's computer, and buy a 750 watt for myself. I'd like to not have to take out all the cables I already have managed in my current case, so I'm curious if it's wrong to use the 550's cables with my new 750 and visa versa? ( EVGA - SuperNOVA G2 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply / EVGA - SuperNOVA G2 550W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ) or any other advice like I could overclock my 6800k with a 550 watt PSU no problem? or should I be getting a micro ATX power supply for my parent's build and not reuse my ATX psu? current build- https://pcpartpicker.com/b/pkcYcf parent's build- https://pcpartpicker.com/user/thegremlin/saved/ZPpJxr thanks for the help!

Alright, so around christmas i will be upgrading my pc and one of the "upgrades" will be case with a window- Phanteks p400 Eclipse. So... I'm thinking about upgrading my PSU because it's not even semi modular and it has ketchup and mustard cables... Also as far as i know it's an unreliable brand ( Energon ). Also I don't want it to cost a sht ton , it needs to be under 70,60 dollars My best option so far is I guess Thermaltake Smart series ( it is semi modular and it has flat black cables )

So, at a recent reunion of mine and my sister's university buddies, our mate was working on this modular smartwatch https://www.chooseblocks.com/ Thought you guys might wanna look at it or ask for a reviewer's sample etc. I did mention them to you but they were quite drunk at the time. Hell, we all werem but the idea of it being modular rather than a one for all seemed interesting. Couldn't find a wearables or smartwatch topic so I assumed that it falls on everything in between tablets and smartphones? If not do not flail me please.

I don’t know why, but I honestly really don’t feel like I’m liking my Moto Z as time went on. First of all, this was more or less a phone that I got to replace my recalled Note 7. At the time I got it, I was pleasantly surprised. The screen was nice, the camera didn’t seem to be that bad and it performed splendidly on Android Marshmallow. Heck, the Motomods also seemed quite cool and the battery life wasn’t so bad. Then Nougat hit. Nougat wasn’t bad on its own. But when my OTA arrived, it bricked the phone and showed the ominous “Your device has failed verification and may not work properly”. I called up support and they told me that they are unable to do anything because it wasn’t purchased in the same country (even though it is the same model and runs on the same regional firmware). Reluctantly, I resorted to unlocking the bootloader, permanently voiding my warranty in the process, and resorted to learning how to flash a factory image to get it back up and running. With that settled, I went on to flash Nougat, and it wasn’t roses. The phone got very hot easily, battery life tanked and it very easily throttled, to the point where even pressing the home button took 10 seconds to register. I flashed newer firmware and even swapped kernels and changed governers to help make it more bearable, but it never performed like it would on Marshmallow. I also grew less fond of the Motomods. I currently have the Mophie mod and it was uncomfortable to hold the phone caseless as it got very hot on the sides and needed to remove the pack to make it cool down. Honestly, I question why I got it in the first place. Guess I got suckered into the modular hype that I now realize that I ended up trading a fair bit of usability for that. Guess I’m going to get a new phone sometime in 2018.

So this is definitely a winner for most awesome gaming keyboard name... The 'Glorious PC Gaming Race GMMK TKL RGB' mechanical keyboard is up for Pre-Order with a shipping date of October 23. What makes this keyboard different than the rest is that when they call it modular, they really do mean modular in that not only are the keycaps interchangable (as one would expect), but the key switches are also fully interchangeable. Currently the board supposedly supports Kailh, Cherry, Gateron and Zealio switches. As for pricing, the basic board, without switches or keycaps ships at $60.00 but you can get a full keycap set for $20.00 and a pack of Gateron switches for $30 to $35 or order your own switches of preference. http://www.tomshardware.com/news/glorious-pc-gmmk-tkl-rgb-modular-mechanical-keyboard,35535.html Seems like a really neat concept, especially with being able to use different switch type and brands on the same keyboard. Could see some scenarios where someone may want to use Cherry Speeds for their gaming keys and maybe Browns or something else for the rest of the board, although that may also be a little disconcerting for some typists if on certain keys they are not getting the same feedback as the rest of the board...
