I was able to get my hands on a Ryzen 5 5600 for free via some weird mail mix up, when I ordered some parts from Newegg. I of course used this to my advantage to challenge myself on whether or not I can install the most modern XP gaming rig I can. With some difficulty and no ACPI support (lol), I was able to get a Ryzen 5th gen Windows XP PC up and running. The best part? I have very little driver incompatibilities! LAN, sound, graphics and USB 3 all work. thanks to the fan-made Windows XP Integral Edition, coming with drivers out of the box to help install XP on newer platforms. Without this software, I would have a major headache and this project could not be possible. Here are the specs: Ryzen 5 5600 CPU - one core enabled, disabled hyperthreading. XP doesn't play nice with multiple cores. 16GB DDR4-2400 - I know, low speed for Ryzen, but XP only detects 4GB and I doubt memory speed matters for let's say Oblivion and Half-Life 2 on 3440x1440. AsRock X370M Motherboard - got this as a deal when an eBay seller sent me a faulty motherboard and send this one as a way of apologizing. EVGA GTX 960 FTW - this is the latest graphics card to *officially* support XP. To my knowledge, people have gotten the 980Ti and even the Titan to play nicely with it, given some minor driver tweaks.) 256GB SSD - don't need much storage to play older games. 256GB seems to be adequate enough for my needs, for now. EVGA 750W non-modular PSU - no need to say more. My favorite part is that my GPU has Displayport, so I can use XP on my ultrawide monitor, at a resolution of 3440x1440. Here is the HWInfo for the XP build for tha proofz.

I want this Topic to be a little List for people who don't know which ATX Tower to choose or haven't decided yet (If there isn't already a Topic that's doing this) if someone can recommend a high quality ATX Tower regarding LED, modern design or other types, please write them in here for people who perhaps need a good case but haven't chosen one yet and instead of creating a new Topic, they can look some good ones up here

Hey so, over the next few months I want to setup a build that's like mine, fit for exactly what I want to do and works well syncing between devices. To start off I have a quite powerful MSI laptop, specs are in my bio thing underneath this post. I love this computer but am starting to be more inclined to the sleek modern look of products like the surface book 2 and the whole surface line of products. Best get this out of the way first, not going to use a Mac so don't even recommend it. My two main goals come down to: 1. Designing a desktop workplace in terms of computer, peripherals, and general aesthetics. 2. Purchasing a laptop that syncs well with the desktop in terms of photos, music, and some other documents. Thinking a lot of this could be achieved with Windows 10 now as it seems Microsoft is trying to give more of a connected feeling between devices like how you can connect your phone and send texts. For the laptop I am thinking potentially the surface book 2. I want a laptop that has the flexibility that a lot of laptops have now with their screen including touch and the ability to draw. Also a high quality clear screen at least 1440p or above. It doesn't need to be overly powerful, definitely an SSD, at least 4 cores, and a dedicated card would be nice but not a must and it doesn't need to play top of the line games. The battery life I would also like to be long when doing general tasks like watching youtube, writing essays, etc. I definitely don't want a bulky laptop by any means, I definitely like the more sleek modern thing designs with white, silver, platinum, etc. Also a pen for the screen which is another reason I was thinking the surface book 2, this will allow me to easily write notes down. The desktop and this entire area is where I'm quite stumped, on the one hand I very much enjoy the look of the Surface Studio 2, but it's not really what I need and getting the more powerful versions of it aren't what you'd consider cheap. Like I don't really want a tower but get the feeling I'm going to need one unless I want it to be insanely expensive. I would be playing recent titles with this computer which also raises a problem with the Studio. And the peripherals I really have no clue about at all, except that I also like the Arc Mouse. After all the parts I've said I like you can probably get the sense of the style I'm looking for. All the peripherals I'd be looking for are: Headset & Stand, Mouse, Mouse Pad, and potentially some speakers and a monitor (depending on whether or not the computer is an all in one.) Thanks, know I haven't been too specific on what I want, cause I'm not entirely sure myself which is why I'm asking for help. :)

I was reminded when I was watching linus and Anthony doing a review on the xtra pc that claimed to revive dead hardware although it did a not to bad job and was pretty good, I was wondering as there's tinycore linux which I know of and was wondering if you all thought this was a viable option as I know it has been known to run this os on pentium Pro processors from 1995 as its really light weight, with core plus to install it on hard drives I wonder if linus and the team would think this would be a good idea to review for those that have machines that they could possibly revive or use to get data off if Windows goes wonky or dies and again they can't get to it because of propietry connectors

So I have a IBM XT 5160 case and a XT power supply and I've been wanting to modify it to house a modern gaming computer in it. I was wondering if anyone has some tips or done something similar in the past. I know it's going to need to some fabricating and drilling to mount everything and probably some custom panels and brackets to make the full drive bays half bays. I was planning on replacing the innards of the XT power supply with a modern one to keep the old switch and not have to worry about modifying that part of the case, but it also makes me worried about the space.

Hey guys! So i've been searching the web for a whole now and I can't seem to put my finger the the case I want/need. My requirements are that the Asus ROG Strix x399-E fits in it with enough clearance under the bottom PCIe slot for a GPU to not be choked (It's a 970). I also need all the Intakes to have dust filters if possible, but as long as the front has a filter I can make my own for the bottom. Preference wise I've been looking at the Fractal Design XL R2, and then just removing the front noise padding where the fans are and drilling a honeycomb pattern into it so that I still get good airflow without removing the front door. I would like something more modern though with some proper SSD mounting options and cable management. I'd rather not have a window into the case, but I'm not against it! Thanks guys

So I recently broke my watch and was looking to get a new one, but cannot find one I like. So basically I would like: 1. A digital watch that tells the time. 2. It has to be a simplistic and clean design, no cluttered detail or anything. 3. It has to be budget, for example under £30. 4. It could tell the date but they is not necessary. If someone could help me, I would be very thankful. Thanks!

My dad is one of those people that refuse to move on past the old. He thinks that XP is the best thing ever and refuses to try anything above it. I go over to his house every so often and cringe at his computers due to their slow speed and their almost unusable condition. I would like to do something nice for him and upgrade his computers to something more modern but at the same time run XP. I haven't picked out any hardware yet because I'm wanting to make sure it's possible before I commit to anything. Help..... Please.

Amazon: http://geni.us/BdS NCIX: http://bit.ly/1Nke4hD "But can it run Crysis?" used to be the battlecry of many PC hardware enthusiasts. About 8 years later we want to ask that question again. Can modern hardware run Crysis?

Used to you could chuck these things in the bath and as long as you let them fully dry they were fine to use and squeaky clean. These modern ones with the lighting and controllers and switches, would they endure as much? I'm starting to get "sticky keys" on mine and wanted a super quick cleansing. It's not exactly bleeding edge, but it does have those fancy LEDs and dedicated keys and such. Curious.

Hello, My name is Joe and i'm new to the community. I was hoping someone could help me with a build. I am looking for a decent gaming PC that can handle GTA 5 and other AAA titles. But these only have to run at 1080p. The reason I am asking is because 4 years ago I brought an Alienware x51 (Don't kill me) and it was the worst thing in the world, but one year ago I sold it and brought a small, average desktop, but now I think it's time for an upgrade. What I need: 4K - Support on Windows (For Web Design and Video Editing) 1080p - AAA Gaming, GTA 5, Ect. What I've Got: Monitor Mouse, Keyboard Speakers All I really need is a PC, I would prefer smaller then bigger and budget is around £1100. Please help, Thank you. - Joe

Hi guys. If you want to skip the boring bit, go down to where my future rig components list is A little introduction to me: I've been into computer for a good few years, and now being 18, I have a job (Actually 2!) and so I'm earning more then just pocket money and allowance! As of recent (Summer 2013), I've been buying various things towards my end accomplishment of having a whole set-up to be proud of. Now, by no means am I loaded enough to buy all the parts outright. That would be awesome, but totally impossible as I don't have the funds, and my girlfriend isn't helping on that front! So like previously stated, I've been buying my part by part. In fact, the origins of my current computer come from my first ever build! I'm currently at College studying Maths and Physics in my third year, I have a part-time job as a Shelf stacker, and another part-time job as an IT technician at a private school. Original Build list (Summer 2012): - AMD FX-6100 3.3Ghz - Arctic Cooling Alpine 64 Pro - Asus M5A97 AM3+ - Corsair Vengeance LP 2x4GB @ 1333Mhz - Sapphire 5450 1GB - WD Blue 500GB - 650W Unbranded PSU - Inwin Maelstrom Full Tower Case - Windows 7 64 Bit AMD FX6100 CPU M5A97 Mobo Sapphire HD5450 1GB Corsair Vengeance LP 2x4GB Inwin Maelstrom Case So I started with this, and in my defence, this is when I wasn't earning alot of money. This was capable of playing the infamous RuneScape, and the more famous Minecraft. Since then I've wanted more and more power to play better games, like the BF series, Grid etc etc. Due to this, I bought better components after putting this rig together, even from as short of a time as 1 month after the rig was assembled. Additions to the build a few months after it was assembled: - Sapphire 7850 2GB (Overclocked to 925Mhz/1270Mhz) - TherMax Spire II w/ 2 Stock fans - Powercool 800W dual rail PSU HD7850 TherMax CPU cooler The GPU and CPU cooler are both still currently in my rig. However the PSU only lasted a week or so. It had received bad reviews, but it was very cheap for the Wattage. I was still pretty naive at this age, and preferred price over branding. I'm quiet opposite now! I ended up returning the Powercool PSU and returning back to the Gold PSU. The CPU cooler did mean however, that I could use the inbuilt overclocking to push my CPU to 3.6Ghz After a trip to my home country of Scotland, I was able to get a Corsair CX750M PSU discounted due to a friend working at an electronics store. This finally meant that after months of running on a risky unbranded Gold PSU, I could finally go with a trusted brand. This was quickly installed. About a week later I received my Soundblaster 3D Recon PCI-e card and the 5.1 Logitech sound system. I also got my Roccat Kova[+] with this delivery too It was around this time when I started earning decent enough money to start upgrading components in a quicker fashion then the year before, as all the components listed after this were bought in 2013. First on my list was a monitor, this is because I had been running my computer off of a 19" 1080i TV, so I had been wanting to upgrade this alot! I upgraded to the Acer S240HLbid 24" monitor. Around the same point in time I also ordered my 500Mbps TP-Link Powerline adapters due to really bad wifi reception in my bedroom. A good investment! The Summer of 2013 marked the upgrading of my rig. This is when I started upgrading old components of my rig in the vision of my "new" rig. So I ordered the Fractal Design R4 w/ Window, Samsung 840 120GB SSD and a few bits and bobs so that I could make the case work, such as a PCI-e USB 3 adapter, a 3rd fan and a sleeved molex extension cable. This order was spurred on by the fact I had to move to a significantly smaller room, so wanted to upgrade the computer in the bedroom which had more room. Shortly after moving into the new, small and sauna like room (really small so heats up due to my PC really quickly!); I decided to upgrade from my old turtlebeach x12s after receiving complaints from Skype friends about them being too open. So I decided, after much debate, to go for the Razer Kraken Pro Black. I love the functionality of this headset and so would recommend it to anyone Under recommendation, and hardcore linus stalkers will be laughing now, I also bought a steelseries QCK-mass mouse mat. Good mouse mat. Since I was about 12, I had used multiple computers, but only ever one chair. I've made a mark on the chair. No literally, a mark. It must've been from when I came in with blue jeans after a rainy day and just sat down, as a good amount of the chair was just blue! LOL! Due to this wooden chair, and learning about Health and Safety from College ICT classes, I decided to get an office chair. This was a risk though as there is about 2ft between my desk and my Bed due to size limitations! Regardless, I bought it and I'm now making it work! The last upgrade I have to talk about is the Microsoft sidewinder x4 which I bought to temporarily replace my old, worn out Microsoft wireless 2000. Now with all the story out of the way, my future rig specs. *Insert epic name for a rig here*: - i7 4770k @ 4.5Ghz (Hopefully!) - H100i - Maximus VI Hero - EVGA 780 SC ACX / XXXX R9-290X - Corsair Vengeance Pro 2x8GB @ 1800Mhz~ - Samsung Pro 512GB SSD / 500GB SSD / 2TB HDD - Windows 8 64 Bit The end result of this rig is for future proofing (that's why I've chosen the i7 over the i5), and for some epic gaming! If you have any suggestions or any ideas about what I can do with my rig, I'll add your suggestion to the list below if I like it, and it may be a possible addition to my rig in the future! Member Suggestions: - "i5 CPU with smaller SSD and a cheaper mobo" suggested by JORDANonPC & Nicktrance - 2TB HDD instead of SSD suggested by JORDANonPC Thanks for reading !

Hi ya beautiful people! Well, here it is: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/Cluso108/saved/2CYJ I would love feedback on where I could cut costs or add power for minimal cost. Not sure about the CPU, I would like the 4670k but don't think it's worth it for the price. For the storage I took the price of a 120GB SSD and added on the price of a 1TB HDD and put that toward a bigger SSD, thats why there is a 256GB one in there, I'll deal with mass storage later on. And the PSU is that big because i would like to add a second GTX760 eventually. Also not sure about the Asus display, never seen one before, but its IPS and is priced nicely, not included in the price because I have a horrible monitor I'll use temporarily. One more thing, how is that gorgeous mushkin ram so cheap? The overall goal of this machine is to not really go down in power compared to my last computer while keeping it cheap(ish). Short specs of previous machine: CPU: I7 950 GPU: GTX670 Windforce X3 RAM: 12GB 1600MHz SSD: Intel 520 180GB Had to sell my baby when I moved to the UK, currently living with a GT650M equipped laptop. :'< So what do you guys think about my lil build?

I've had this motherboard and a pair of Xeons for quite a while now. Both of the CPUs and the motherboard are watercooled. Problem is that they are housed inside a cheap (relatively) and stupid Rosewill Blackhawk Ultra. I'm looking for something a bit more modern and slick looking. I'm still going to be watercooling the rig so a case with that option is preferred. I was looking at the Cosmos II but that case is a bit too big and a bit too expensive. If you guys know of any chassis that fits the criteria, please do let me know. Many thanks. PS: Picture of the rig is attached.

Hi there! My problem is that anytime I try to open an original Windows app (Mail, Contact, Weather, Stocks etc.) it shows the logo then immediately goes to the background. If I pull in the running apps bar it shows that the app is running but if I select it, it goes to the background again. What can I do?
