PC for gaming, designing, modelling and programming
HadesP posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
Budget (including currency): 500-550 000 HUF, about 1500 USD, though flexible to a point Country: Hungary Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Regarding gaming, mostly FPS and Sandbox games. I will be also using it for work, so must be able to handle CAD softwares and running different programming languages Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): It would be fully from the ground. I have friends who can get the parts on a cheaper price. All peripherals already available, 1080p 60hz-144hz.- 1 reply

I would highly prefer these: A good GPU, something around 3060 I would prefer AMD, but fine with Intel as well. A good screen, 15" would be enough. Looking for good color corrections. Semi-decent battery life. Something that doesn't have a "gaming" look. Budget: 2000$ Will be used for 3d modelling and game development alongside with my desktop computer. Thanks for all the suggestions!

Hi everyone,I'm building a PC for my friend who needs a PC for 3D Rending and image editing. The software's that she uses are: Maya 3DS Max Zbrush Photoshop 4D MarvelousDesigner At the moment, I'm having some conflict choosing an AMD VS Intel CPU, as there's quite a lot of debate on which is more optimised for the above software. Many people recommend the AMD Ryzen 5 & 7 due to the amount of CPU cores helping handle the above, as most of her rendering is done using CPU rather than GPU, so I decided a high end GPU wasn't essential. I wanted to keep it under £1500 maximum, that's only the max I would go, not how much I'm looking to spend exactly. If I can save £500 because the components will only give a 10% performance increase, I'l happily cut the cost. My current build is: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 1600 3.2GHz 6-Core Processor (£178.50 @ Amazon UK) Motherboard: ASRock - AB350 Pro4 ATX AM4 Motherboard (£79.37 @ BT Shop) Memory: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory (£163.20 @ Aria PC) Storage: Samsung - 850 EVO 250GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive (£88.29 @ Ebuyer) Storage: Seagate - Barracuda 3TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (£75.00 @ Aria PC) Video Card: EVGA - GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 6GB SC GAMING Video Card (£239.99 @ Novatech) Case: Thermaltake - Versa H21 ATX Mid Tower Case (£33.99 @ Amazon UK) Power Supply: EVGA - SuperNOVA G2 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply (£86.14 @ Amazon UK) Operating System: Microsoft - Windows 10 Pro OEM 64-bit Monitor: BenQ - BL2711U 27.0" 3840x2160 60Hz Monitor (£467.12 @ PC World Business) Total: £1411.60 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2017-10-21 18:43 BST+0100 I need to buy a monitor to go with the build. I want to get a 4K monitor, so I've added one to the build which adds £400 although Amazon US it's only $400 which is like £330. So that's taken up a lot of the budget. I decided to upgrade the GPU to a 1060. I spoke with my friend and most of the software she uses she renders using CPU rather than GPU, so I don't need the 1070. Plus looking at the performance charts, the it's only a 15% increase for a 1060 to a 1070 but an extra £250. The CPU being the most important component possibly. 32GB of RAM was a little overkill, so I've reduced to 16GB and also lowered the PSU. I don't need the CPU cooler as the Ryzen CPU models are better for heat and come with a better stock cooler than intel. Plus if she ever needs more RAM for the software she uses like Zbrush, she can add an extra 16GB, so I think I should keep it at 16GB for the moment. Any other suggestions for improvement to this build or any components you think I could swap to save money if it won't have a significant impact on the build, I'd appreciate the suggestions. Thanks.

I'm building a sort of entry level workstation with some rendering power, Ill be using it for 3d modelling, rendering, illustration. I'm hardware-naive as i work usually just on the software side, so i did some research to put this together but i might very well be missing the point on some parts! most of the rendering is usually done on the GPU but since threadripper is such good bang for buck i tought it would be a good idea to have a lot of cores added! afterall there are some case scenarios where you need to render on cpu and or do some video editing. Here is my parts list from my local shop (based in switzerland): https://www.digitec.ch/en/ShopList/Show?listmode=true&shopListId=B5874D320B2411F1FDDE62007D69A62D#listhead heres the part list as text: CPU: AMD Threadripper 1950X (TR4, 3.40GHz, Unlocked) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U14S TR4-SP3 (16.50cm) MOBO: AsRock X399 Taichi (TR4, AMD X399, ATX) RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX (4x, 16GB, DDR4-3600, DIMM 288) PSU: Corsair HX1200 (1200W) GPU: ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 Ti STRIX 11G-GAMING (11GB, High End) HD: Seagate BarraCuda (3000GB, 3.5", Desktop) M.2: Samsung 960 PRO (512GB, M.2 2280) CASE: Corsair Obsidian 750D Airflow Edition (Full tower) Id be grateful if anyone could double proof this and share his toughts

Hi there, I don't know if this was already covered (either by Linus or on the forum) but can someone recommend a really good CPU (Intel) for 3d modelling and animating performance? Not for CAD, but for using Blender, 3dMax or Maya. Thanks Wintoons

So im an architecture student building a pc for rendering (vray) and 3D modelling (Rhino, AutoCAD) but ill also use it for a fair bit of gaming on the side. I already have a 850W power supply, case and sufficient storage, the parts that im considering buying are: -AMD Ryzen 2700X or possibly Intel Core i7 9700K -Crosshair Vengeance LPX (2x16gb) 32gb DDR4 Looking for some advice on what gpu to get, was considering the rx 580, rx 590 or the rx vega 56 or 64 Something in a similar price range to these is ok (up to $800AUD) Also motherboard recommendations would be great (up to $250 AUD).

I have been doing research for some time now and have come up with this list for a build that I will use for modelling and rendering in 3Ds Max: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant Type Item Price CPU AMD - Ryzen 7 2700X 3.7 GHz 8-Core Processor $308.99 @ Amazon CPU Cooler be quiet! - Dark Rock Pro 4 50.5 CFM CPU Cooler $82.99 @ SuperBiiz Motherboard Asus - Prime X470-Pro ATX AM4 Motherboard $156.90 @ OutletPC Memory Corsair - Vengeance LPX 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-2400 Memory $214.99 @ Amazon Storage Samsung - 860 Evo 250 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive $52.99 @ Newegg Business Video Card EVGA - GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4 GB SC GAMING ACX 2.0 Video Card $166.89 @ OutletPC Case DIYPC - DIY-BG01 ATX Mid Tower Case $32.96 @ Newegg Power Supply Corsair - CX (2017) 550 W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply $32.98 @ Newegg Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts Total (before mail-in rebates) $1114.69 Mail-in rebates -$65.00 Total $1049.69 Generated by PCPartPicker 2019-01-12 11:09 EST-0500 I am still not 100% sure about it, the main thing I am pretty certain about is the CPU the only other one I have considered is the 1920x but I havent found a way to fit it in an $1000 (US) budget. I would welcome any suggestion or tweaks regarding all my parts like my GPU and Motherboard. Also is the fan I have chosen good enough to keep my CPU cool when working on heavy 3D projects? Secondly I have seen a lot of GPU's that have 1050ti in their name but not too sure which to choose, so some clearance on that would be great and I would like to know is the GPU I have chosen suitable for 3D modelling and rendering. P.S I don't need any OS or peripherals and I am not planning to overclock my CPU any time soon. Thank you so much in advanced for your help, it really means a lot

I am fairly new to PC building, I have made one before but just followed somebody else's list of parts. My previous build was gaming oriented but now I need a PC strictly for 3D modelling and rendering. From some research I believe that rendering is heavily CPU based especially with the Corona Renderer and on the other hand, real time rendering is GPU based and modelling large dense scenes with materials requires a lot of RAM. I mostly need fast "non-realtime" renders so I want most (75%) of my budget of $1000 to go towards my CPU and RAM. Also should I get an extra SSD to put my OS and main files or is not worth it in terms of performance speed once in the software (3Ds Max)? I genuinely appreciate you taking your time to read this, and helping me with superior knowledge :P If you have any NewEgg affiliate codes I will gladly use them - its the least I can do :) Again thank you so much and I am looking forward to your response! PS. I don’t need any peripherals or OS, and it would be ideal if any of your suggestions where on NewEgg.

Hi! before go on i apologize for my bad English and i thought that you should know that I'm a noob in blender XD. So I've been trying to model a character with its upper and lower torso separate. However they wont bridge together for some reason blender keeps saying select two edge loops. The other way that i found out was to make them a single object by ctrl+j then bridging them. However since I'm using a mirror modifier it splits the upper body if its selected first and splits the lower one if that one is selected first messing up the topology. Both sides that need to be merged have the same number of verticies. any idea on how i should fix this? again sorry for the bad English.

Hello. I am new to this community. I need help/recommendation on what pc spec should I get for gaming and modelling/rendering needs. I am a 3D artist/student and a casual gamer. My laptop with I7-7700hq, gtx1050 4gb and 8gb Ram isn't enough to run some of the 3d softwares and games so I want to build a new pc in the next few weeks. My budget would be 1800 USD/ 2500 SGD. I also saw the release of 30series but I do not have the time to wait now as Ive got school projects to handle(work from home). I will really appreciate any help/recommendation!

I am upgrading a system that is about 4 intel generations old. But checking the new releases of the new AMD Processors, i've been doubting a lot. I use my system for heavy gaming (Witcher 3, Destiny 2, Battlefield 1/4, Fortnite and up comming games), as well as some light video editing and some heavy 3D rendering as I'm an architecture student. So I wanted to know, which CPU fits best my needs. I want a future proof system that might last for atleast 3-4 years. I am currently on a GTX970 but waiting for new nvidia gpus to release, so ill be pairing the to be chosen cpu with the 1-80 GPU of the new architecture. Please help me decide wether should I get the i7 8700k or the Ryzen 7 2700X, I have been doubting for over a week and I really need to know which is better.

Hi, I am new so i m sorry for my bad English. I wanted to create a 3d representation of my pc which i m going to build so i can have an idea of how it would look like. Is there any software to do this. I would create a 3d of each part that i will be using and then i will combine them.. Also i saw linus using a software in This Video can you please tell me which software is this. Thank you. .

Hi guys Ive got a decision to make between 2 custom gaming Laptops I'm planning to buy and I cant decide between the 2. Basically I'm buying this laptop for University (collage) and need it for Architecture/3d modelling/CAD etc. But I do love gaming as a bonus both are great and have a large budget for. Mainly I have an older but well powerful for workstation use Mac pro (late+2013) I've used with Bootcamp that's shower her age but still can handle the software. The idea is to work away from home. So portability is a key factor but also POWER!!! Do I go for a larger bulky thicker model That's 15 Inch screen size and put a Desktop CPU and GPU in it with 8th Gen Intel Hexa Core i7-8700K NVIDIA GTX 1080 8GB GDDR5 G-Sync (Higher Price) or A slimmer model that's 17inch and more portable with 8th Gen Intel Hexa Core i9-8950HK NVIDIA GTX 1070 8GB GDDR5 G-Sync (Lesser Price) Basically I need answers on the benefits an i9 processor has over an i7 in terms of workstation performance ideally I am more inclined to pick the one with the most power that can be future proof and last 5+years as an investment (I made that mistake with the Mac Pro) and to be able take to clients in a portable sense. Thanks Guys let me know what you think? James.C

Is there a pc software, free or paid that can be used as a 3D modelling tool AND to simulate live physics? Lets just say its like besiege but Autodesk in it. Im not talking about just pics or just shows some values, I mean like what I modelled will really move? EDIT: When I say physics, I meant realistic physics that can be used in real world applications or atleast very very close to real life physics

I have an £850 budget, and am building a PC for fluid simulation(CFD) /modelling(SOLIDWORKS) /gaming. I can go over it, but I don't really want to. I'm spending around £680-700 on this*: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/cvvbsJ *except I don't know which MSI x99S board I'm getting, or what RAM config, just that its 16gb DDR4. I am fully aware x99 is not on board graphics capable, which leaves me around £150 to spend on a GPU. Right now, I only play World of Warships (and light games like Dead by Daylight, no heavy FPS AAA games) - and I have a laptop with 960m that I am currently playing those on, perfectly fine. So questions: 1) Is there a better performance SSD I can get for a similar value? 2) Is there a case you guys recommend that supports more than 2x 3.5" drive bays and Corsair H100i V2 watercooling? 3) What would you do graphics card wise? I want to do something like a GTX 1060 6GB or higher but it's just too expensive right now (I'd be willing to break the £850 barrier to get one at a decent price e.g. £250), so would you wait for a price drop when mining has a false crash and ebay is flooded with scared miners and their GPUs, or would you go for a temporary scrubby GPU like a GT 730 for nothing more than video output - as again, I am fine playing games on my current laptop. It's not like solid works needs the graphics acceleration anyway, but idk about CFD. I am happy to wait on a system I can't use for a GPU to appear. Thanks in advance for taking the time to read and respond!

Hi All, This is my first post in the forum & possibly a first PC build. I have to decided to build a PC for my friend who's an Architect. Her laptop is dying and slowing down her workflow. This PC is not going to be used for gaming/media consumption. She mostly does 3D modelling in AutoCAD, SketchUP. And for rendering V-Ray, Lumion are used. and Photoshop sometimes. Can you guys suggest a good CPU, Compatible Motherboard & Graphics for this use case scenario ? I prefer Intel CPU. But considering the budget I really don't mind having an AMD CPU if it offers better performance. Form Factor: Mini ATX\ ATX Budget: $500 - $600 (USD; including a single monitor cost) Hoping I can figure this out soon enough, Cheers, Yashwanth.

Im working on choosing parts to build a computer for a friend. the budget is still very loose but the general impression i am getting is to keep the cost of the computer close to $1500. right now the goals are to be able to do 3d modelling with a cintiq as well as gaming on the side. because of the motherboard the plan is to make a pretty dark build with no case lights that is all black with copper accents like the motherboard so far i have the below chosen based on both the intended look of the completed system and the performance desired. my reasoning is as follows: the CPU has a good clock rate and decent number of cores. i dont really want to go back a generation to have more cores as i dont think many tasks are optimized for multicore work beyond 4 or 8 anyways. i chose the K version because it is only a little more than the non-k and seems to be a lot faster. the cpu cooler is a trusted brand and black to match everything else. i dont see a cost vs performance benefit for an aio water cooler and i dont want the extra points of failure that would introduce. the motherboard seems to have the features i need. it supports the max spec of ram and has the pcie 16x slot for the graphics card. the memory is the fastest speed the cpu can use and will fill half of the slots for dual channel ram with room to max out the ram in a few years to 64gb the storage is just autogenerated to be a few terabytes of mass storage and a ssd for booting a few programs. im willing to look into a redundant raid configuration if that's a good idea. id like to add an m.2 ssd but im sure that would pull bandwidth from the gpu if the sata doesn't already. the video card is chosen for being new with plenty of vram and a workable price. i dont see any reason to step down to 1060 and the 1080 seems to be too much. i'm choosing nvidia for compatibility with the modelling programs. the case is just a solid choice i think at a good price and the power supply has the power to support all of the components and then some. the mobo does not support sli and i dont think sli is worth upgrading to anyways for this application. This means the upgrade path is limited to expanding storage and memory. Hey guys, within the last days i tested all available versions of cycles render engine in Blender. I created a test scene with 5 balls and different materials (diffuse, mix of diffuse and glossy, mix of glossy, glass, diffuse and emission, glass and glossy). The whole scene is lighted by a point lamp and 2 planes with emission shaders. This is how it looks:

Hey there, So I'm interested in building a new system, as my current laptop is reaching it's end-life. I'm working in the architectural field, so that means long hours of cad design, 3d modelling, rendering, post-production. The software that I'll be using, if it matters in some aspects, are: Autocad Revit Rhino(ceros) + Grasshopper 3DS Max + Vray Adobe CC ( PS, AI, ID) As mentioned above, everything takes a lot of time (at the moment at least) and I'm used to leaving the pc running overnight very often. I'm currently using a DELL XPS L502X (2011). Obviously anything new is going to perform better than this, but I'm also looking for a stable build that can withstand the longer working time. After doing a bit of research on my own, I have a few of the components in mind: i7 5820K Asus X99 mobo, not yet settled on one 32GB DDR4 Corsair 750D case In regards to the GPU, I've searched far and wide and can't really determine which would fair better in rendering. I know that for GPU-based renderers, which I assume Vray RT is one, the more CUDA cores, the better. The Quadros are really out of the question as they are really too expensive and I can't yet justify buying a workstation card, so I was looking into the Titan Black vs 780 Ti vs 980 vs 970. Apart from the actual memory, the 780 and the Titan seem almost identical. The 970 is the cheapest and most "lower-end" between them...so..I'm open to any ideas and suggestions. And if you guys could help with the rest of the build, going on fast, silent performance. Thank you
