  2. First up apologies if this belongs somewhere, else. I got a Strix Soar today, and discovered it has the 'box link' connector on the back. Reading reviews, it seems the hardware is the same (other than a different opamp or 2) on the Soar and Raid Pro, so theoretically the control box should work on both, although I couldn't find anyone who had actually tried. Please correct me if this is wrong. The main difference between the cards as far as I can tell (again please correct me) is that the Raid pro comes with the control box. From what little I have found about the connector, it looks like the control box interfaces with the card via a 2.5mm 4-pole jack. The other 2x 3.5mm jacks appear to be just pass through for headphone and mic/line in connectors. The 2.5mm jack is most likely Vdd,Vcc and I2C or similar. Does anyone have any info about this connector. Pinouts, communication protocol etc. I am looking to make a 2.4Ghz remote to allow me to adjust volume while using the PC to play music while I'm doing other things, and a desktop mounted toggle between headphones and speakers. I may add something to do with RAID mode further down the track. Thanks
  3. HIIIIIII! Well this time decide to invest and buy a ITX H97 MB to do something that should already have done since the Dark Side Machine project, I always felt limited with the ATX format and now I had the financial opportunity to buy an ITX and could not escape! I chose the ELITE 120 from Cooler Master to work with, I had everything in mind before I went to get it, but I had that feeling that it was going to be very small and that I would regret it ... BUT NO! Well I was super surprised with the space and saw soon that it was going to give to what it wanted to do. The concept I chose is "ALL TERRAIN", and I will not paint it in camouflage! Ahahah Basically the goal is to make the box as beautiful and as "radical" as possible, but it also makes it even more capable and that's where the concept comes in, making the box capable of things that it originally can not. I want to improve is "image", the air circulation by adding a 240 radiator, put the lid to open otherwise, reposition the PSU elsewhere, well a date of things that may change once the project has no "guide lines "In 3D as I usually do. ENOUGH OF WORDS, and let's get down to business! Best Regards Tankian! #coolermaster #coolermasterportugal #modding #mod #pcmasterrace #pcgaming #pc #youtube #handcraft #homemade #hardware #pcmodding #subscribe #tankiantheman #makeityours
  4. Hi! I'm currently planning to massively upgrade a HP Compaq DC7800 with a Mini-ITX motherboard, R3 1200 CPU and a GTX 1050 Ti low profile to build a small form factor sleeper build. I would loooove to use the current 240w HP PSU to save a hundred bucks and the hassle to fit a SFX PSU in here, but some connectors are not standard. Luckily, I found an adapter for the mini-ATX 24 pin connector. The only remaining problem is the CPU connector.... the one on the HP PSU is 6 pin (No, it's not for a PCI card, but for the CPU). Basically, I need to convert the 6 pin CPU connector to a standard 4 pin. If you think it would be possible, please help me! Or if you think this will all blow up, fry, melt or catch fire please tell me! P.-S.: Here is the part list if you are curious
  5. Intro Now that the mainstream can get crazy core counts for not insane prices, I've been wanting to do a multi user system. A workstation by day, LAN party by night. I have 2 rx480s with copper blocks on them so far, I am in discussions to get a third. So I'm thinking, a 3 headed monster with a dedicated server? 4 cores and 16 gb of ram each, with lots of watercooling! I've narrowed down a few cases and designs, more to come on that later. But right now, things are coming in... Let's do this! First I must say a big thank you to AMD for sponsoring me with the cpu and motherboard. I had just upgraded to Ryzen and I must say if that's the a powerhouse, then threadripper is a monster! A Kaiju, if you will? 6. Hello! I am running a PC with Following specs(I know its stone age af)- 4GB DDR2 RAM X5450 LGA 771 to LGA 775 mod (Currently replaced by an old e7500 for basic functionality) Some Local mobo with G31 chipset, with 2014 phoenix bios. I am facing a problem with a brand new(refurb ofc) X5450 which i bought a few days ago. On its first day, It was working just fine. On the second day I faced a problem. Windows Started freezing after a few minutes. Even the PC freezed when i was in the BIOS. It sometimes booted and worked well. But today the problem got even problematic. It was freezing everytime at the O Windows screen. I replaced it with my old e7500 and it was working fine. The seller says the cpu was tested pretty well before sending it to me . What could be the problem?

  8. Alright guys, you know the drill. I post a dumb, ridiculous question that has probably been answered and then I feel like a fool, but here's another "is this a thing", er, thing. Can you use a soldering iron (like a larger one) or some type of soldering method I guess, to connect multiple pieces of copper and stuff together? Basically, can you solder stuff like laptop heat pipes, small fin assemblies (likely connected to those wimpy pipes, maybe a fan), to make a larger heat sink? I would take the aforementioned laptop heat pipes and solder them to a small block of copper cut to a decent size to cover the cpu (if cannibalizing a gpu air heat sink wasn't possible) and just SOMEHOW getting it all together. Even if it was ugly, I don't care. It's all for shiggles and gets to me. I wouldn't try to mount it to a laptop or am trying to improve a laptops thermals/performance. I just wanna mod me up a heat sink for the hell of it, maybe create a rad heat sink that could maybe later be upgraded with water cooling for a custom pc; custom sound dampened enclosure, just a sweet custom rig. I couldn't find really anything on this topic, or know how to google it best. I doubt using torch solder for connecting pipes would work, would damage the components. I thought maybe you could connect flat surfaces and "weld" a nice rim around the two pieces, basically weld it together best you can and hope the heat transfers well. I don't think the solder would soften during heavy loads and disconnect or whatever. And with a good, powerful soldering iron you wouldn't have to heat the metal I would think. I don't know obviously, about any of this stuff. So any friendly advice or knowledge would be awesome! Also before I end the post, I can post pictures of some hardware I had thoughts of connecting together, or pictures of stuff I think would work well; I guess now that I think about it, this question gets more and more into is custom air cooling possible? I've seen videos by people like DIY Perks that make me inspired to try stuff, so I've been dismantling decommissioned gear, mostly a couple computers in hopes to use them in a future project. I think a custom cooler would be fun. PS. I just want to reiterate I know this is a terrible idea and wouldn't use this on my main computer, I figure it must be too hard or not possible seeing no posts on it so maybe it's common sense it is out of reach but I'm hoping someone knows whether it is safe and possible to try it. Thanks!

  11. Hey guys, I've recently gotten into trying out using plexi and spraypaint to make some custom accents and deco for my rig. In this case, I'm making a backplate for my GPU (An MSI Armor 1070 OC). I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions about putting spraypainted plexi so close to a $400+ video card. I have friends who are asking me to make some for them and I enjoy making them, but I don't want to fry their hardware. The Plexi is coated on both sides with spraypaint, then I attach rubber "feet" that are about 1/8 of an inch thick or so. They backplate just sits on the GPU, no real attaching mechanism. Here's a glance of what I made, if you're curious. The real question here is if Spraypaint is conductive, and if I'm risking them brushing some metal while putting it on the gpu and turning a ton of money into a paperweight. Thanks in advance guys!
  12. Do you know any good wire crimpers mainly for crimping psu cables 18-16 awg for around 20$ more or less. P.S. It's important that they work good on both 16 and 18 awg wire.
  13. I hope this is ok to post a video here, thought putting it in off topic would be ok. This is something I thought would be of interest to case modders and the like \ Ok so this tutorial is based around the JQ6500 MP3 sound module, it's a little pcb that does what it says, plays back mp3's! The version I used in the video has internal flash and 5 triggers, each trigger plays back a set mp3. There a version that uses a micro SD card (JQ6500-28P) Triggers are pulled low to activate, in the video I just tied the trigger 1 to ground so it played the first mp3 every power up. In a PC you could install this on the power, reset, mouse button or even something like an eject button (if you rock a CD drive like I do ) (or even on the trigger ground of a 3.5mm headphone jack) All those things pull low hehe I would recommend a diode on the trigger just to be safe however Also in the demo I did, because I have the trigger 1 pulled low constantly, the USB driver sometimes has issues loading but in most cases (where you would permanently)do this you aren't going to be changing the sound anyhow Also one last thing, this module runs on 3.3~5V, if you install it on a 3.3v rail, please either disconnect or use a blocking diode on the VCC pin. The usb +5v and VCC pin are common (electorally connected) Let me know if you guys like tutorials like this
  14. Has anyone personally tried to cut a window into the side panel of a Fractal R4 Define? I know people have done it online, but I'm looking to see if anyone has any personal experience or advice they could give me. I was thinking of cutting a large square-window from the side panel and using either a thin glass sheet or acrylic plastic to make the effect of a window. I really like the R4 Define look, but I'm starting to wish I had a window. Don't want to just get rid of the R4 if I can mod it a bit. Thanks!
  15. My First Custom Case build

Hello LTT forum community!!! This is the build i made with a custom case mod, i hope you enjoy the post that its meant to inspire more people to do something custom , maybe give some ideas also. The photos that you will see are not very crisp and nice, but i think i did my best , and apologize for the lack of quality upfront! Here we go ... My pc was from 2007 era, ancient indeed , so i gather up money to get a new one, but i wanted to build up the case as well so i can make it pretty, best for cooling, silent as hell and with all the features i would like to see in a case. this was my pc and the case i used to build my mod on. As you can see pretty old and basic stuff, this case might have costed around 25 euro at that time , the brand is Apevia , if you heard of it... So next step was to dismantle the pc and the case As soon as i did that , i proceed to plan on my mod, using paper rulers and schematics ! I got my plan right and made a paper replica of what my pc would look like after the mod, here you can see it As you can see i build a power supply shroud , an hdd/ ssd cage , and an extended base in which i will house 3 140mm fans, usb 3/2 and audio i/O and also some digital thermometers. in the fornt panel another 140m fan as you can see which will drive air to the cpu cooler. After that i packed my stuff and gone to my friends metal workshop to make the paper parts out of metal.
  16. Hi All! I have a build planned for the next year (still saving up, and it is liable to change). I have become interested in the idea of mounting a GPU vertically, to display that RGB goodness, and show off how stunning the card is. My card will likely be the Gigabyte GTX 1070 XTREME Gaming 8GB, and the case I am definitely buying is the Cooler Master Mastercase Pro 5. I have looked around on the internet, and I haven't been able to find any cumulative tutorials on the process of vertically mounting a card, nor any places in or around Australia where I can purchase the necessary components. If someone could explain this process, it would be greatly appreciated Jaeger
  17. This might seem like a really weird question, but how do you orient the led lights inside a PC case? I am asking because I orient them inwards (to shine at the components) because it gives the most even lighting and when I orient them sideways (up/down) they just shine at all the dust and fingerprints on my window and it looks pretty horrible but most if not all Youtube tutorials on how to install light strips do it like that. Hell, even Corsair's official website has a picture showing them like that ( http://www.corsair.com/en-eu/~/media/D8D7738470504E7C8DE3D98371B07D4B.ashx?w=780 ) but when I do it and I have the 460X which is a similar case it looks awful. I know this is a weird post but I am just baffled about this and confused am I the only one who orients his light strips inwards?
  18. Hi everyone. I'm asking you guys for an advice for PC modding criteria for judges. What would you suggest as criteria in which could competitors get points? At the end of October in Slovakia will be an event which organizers wants to implement competition in PC case modding and needs advice what criteria would be ideal to judge in that competition. I found this link with some criteria but I want to ask your opinion as well: https://images10.newegg.com/UploadFilesForNewegg/Promo/casemod/rules.htm Thanks for advice.
  19. Dark mode for file explorer

As the title says, I want a dark mode theme for the white file explorer and one that is safe to use that won't brick my system.
  20. So I have been working on a few things to fix flaws and add vertical gpu mounting to the 570x. So far I made a psu shroud extension to cover the cabling, and add a little flavor. Then I made a psu mount which also covers up the bottom of the motherboard. Corsair didn't think routing holes in the psu shroud was worth doing for some reason, so it covers up the cables that have to traverse on top of the shroud. They have both been painted. The shroud I like, and the mount is great but I feel like it needs some accents of some sort to make it more visible. I matched the mount a little too well and it blends in too much.. The rest of the components are from my old system, so are placeholder until I get around to getting new components. So probably sleeved cabling and that kind of thing will be going in at that point. What I've done so far required no modding to the case itself, I don't plan on doing so unless I find an idea that really requires it. I'm looking for ideas to make the mount a little more visible through the glass, or any other ideas to finish off the system. The gpu mount seems more visible in this pic than it is. The mount is not screwed into the case here. I was taking it in and out. It sits straight once tightened down. Also I think the camera in my phone seems to distort the image. Haha it isn't actually leaning like it seems. Some fisheye going on or something. Didn't do much sanding on the back. If I end up painting some more, I'll sand everything again. messed up one of the holes, but not really visible in the case. Any Ideas on how to get the mount to pop a little more, or any ideas on where to go next, colors, patterns would be a huge help. I'm not against getting out the grinder if it would make the look better. Just a bit stumped at the moment. Thought I would get some outside perspective. Thanks.
  21. Hello all. Myself being an asthetics freak and a car painter couldnt stand the bandage color scheme of noctuas fans. I am a noctua fan (no pun intended), they probably make the best aircooling systems around but the fan color scheme in my opinion is just hideous. So i decided my nh-d15 cooler needs a makeover and wanted to share the process for anyone that may need help. Tools you will need -gray or red scotch brite -masking tape -aerosol plastic primer (usualy transparent -aerosol paint of your choice ( i strongly advise going with acrylics since enamels have a longer drying time) First of all mask off your fan. Take your thime whit this step. It took me about 5 minutes but i mask 3 cars a day so take your time even if it takes an hour it will be worth it in the end Next use scotch brite and take your time to rub down all the parts to be covered with paint. Spray a very thin layer of plastic primer all over the fan and wait 10 mins for it to dry. Next start spraying the paint of your choice in thin layers. Do not overbuild the paint, since it can run and ruin the adhesion properties. The first coat should look like this Bild up thin layers until ful coverage is achieved and let it dry for 30min. Wait 5 mins bettwen layers. Consider that using lighter colors you may need more coats to achieve full coverage. The end result should look something like this
  22. I've already built my own good gaming PC but now that I have my GTX 1070, the Radeon 7850 I was using as a placeholder has no more purpose. While clearing out my room I found my old i7 latitude e6530 laptop and thought if I could feasibly use a pcie converter and other such cables as well as a new case to create a new PC. Anyone have any experience with this type of project or know any good sites or threads for it?
  23. Hi Guys, I downloaded every file for RAGEPluginHook and installed everything correctly. But if I start the .exe file NOTHING happens. Neither the game or the PluginHook starts. If I start the .exe outside the GTA5 folder everything starts. If I start the .exe as an administrater most of the times nothing happens but sometimes a window opens that you shouldn`t open the .exe usually not in administrator mode. Anti virus programs are disabled and so on.. What can I do?
  24. I am trying to find a reliable store to purchase front USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports for a custom case I am working on. So far, I've found this on ebay (https://www.ebay.com/p/USB-3-0-19-p...ue-for-Front-Panel/501001926?iid=162569804561) But I'm not trusting ebay 100 % on these kind of things. I've have received empty cables before. So I am a bit cautious about this. Thus I wonder if anyone know more reliable places to purchase stuff like this from. Also, I did not really know which sub-forum to place this question in. Please move to correct sub-forum if this is the wrong place.
  25. So I've built my first PC and it's awesome having this much freedom with gaming and my computer. Only thing is that due to shortages my GTX 1070 8GB still hasn't been dispatched and I expect it will be at least a few more weeks before it is (I ordered on the 1st of July). But in the meantime, I have an old Radeon 7850 1GB I've been using until my beast arrives. Tried playing Morrowind (first time) but like I expected it's just too dated for me to really enjoy. I think modding it will be quite fun too but if I start now will 1GB be enough for a 2017 modlist or will I need to wait for the 1070?
