Budget (including currency): $0 (ideally, but I can spend more if necessary) Country: United States of America Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Mini PC -> Server or Home Security Laptop -> Server or Home Security Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Cameras (all are reolink): 3x CX410 (4MP PoE) 6x B400 (4MP PoE) Pre-Built Systems: Laptop: HP x360 ee100 (R7 - 5700U + DDR4 SODIMM RAM + 2280 NVME SSD) Mini PC: Morefine 600 (R5 - 6600H + DDR5 SODIMM RAM+ 2280 NVME SSD) All Storage Available to me: 2280 NVME 128GB SSD 2280 NVME 512GB SSD 3.5" 1000GB WD Purple Drive (surveilance) 3.5" 500GB WD Green Drive (power efficient) 3.5" 500GB WD Black Drive 2.5" 500GB Toshiba HDD (x3) 2.5" 500GB HGST HDD 2.5" 500GB Lexar SSD CPU's Available to me: i5 - 4790 i5 - 4770 E3 - 1245 v3 RAM Available to me: 4GB DDR3 DIMM RAM (4x) 8GB DDR3 DIMM RAM (2x - ECC) 8GB DDR4 SODIMM RAM 16GB DDR5 SODIMM RAM GPU's Available to me: Radeon R5 340X Prebuilt Desktops: Dell Optiplex 7020 SFF (Case + PSU + Motherboard) Dell Optiplex 7020 MT (Case + PSU + Motherboard) Prebuilt Servers: HP Prodesk Servers (1U and 2U) Accessories: HDD Dock with 4 HDD slots and USB 3.0 connectivity Based on IPCamTalk.com's guide for buying a CPU: "To determine which CPU you need, first add up the total megapixels per second (MP/s) you intend to run. Then multiply by 10 to get a rough idea of the CPU Mark score that would be recommended as a minimum. For any CPU that does not support Quick Sync Video, add about an additional 40% to the requirement." - https://ipcamtalk.com/wiki/choosing-hardware-for-blue-iris/#but-what-cpu-do-i-actually-buy To my understanding, Quick Sync is an intel thing, so... (123*9)*1.4 = ~1600 Basically all my CPU's are overkill for this: 6600H (18K) (3K single thread) 4790 (7.2K) 4770 (7K) Xeon (7K) To my understanding, the best plan moving forward is to forget all the other PC's, and use my Mini-PC for my home server, and my BlueIRIS box. Based on the performance numbers compared to wattage, the 6600H is the price to performance king when it comes to electricity cost. Could I make a VM with Blue Iris, and give it a single thread of the 6600H, then keep all 15 other threads for the VM Host like proxmox? My end goal is the following: I currently have a Z Fold 5, Meta Quest 3, and Nothing else. I am using a USB C capture card to feed the video signal of Samsung Dex into my Quest 3, and using Samsung Dex for Chrome Remote Desktop into a Windows VM hosted on the PROXMOX server, when I need a Windows VM, I can send something through SSH on an SSH terminal with a terminal app on my phone to my PROXMOX server to spin up the Windows VM. I would like to sell my Optiplex's, the HP Desktop Style Server and so on to be able to buy some DDR5 SODIMM RAM for the minipc running proxmox and the Blue Iris install. Would it be better for me to use the Intel XEON chip with ECC RAM for the BlueIRIS install for 24/7 reliability or will just the Morefine be good enough? Ideally I'd also like to be able to replace Google Drive by connecting the HDD Hub into my Morefine miniPC, and using the 4 HDD's in RAID 10. (Could this double for a Mediaserver too is this asking too much of the 6600H? What media server would work best given this situation?) Do you guys see any pitfalls with this plan or do y'all think I'm good to go?

I have a MiniPC, 11 Pro but with only USB output for sound. I want to buy a High Resolution external DAC/AMP for my desktop MiniPC but also want this device to be able to connect to a pr of desktop computer speakers (With builtin amplifier) so I can use when not using my headphones. The device I mentioned in my heading ( SMSL DL200 ES9039Q2M Audio DAC ) has a left RCA output jack and a right RCA output. Can those jacks be used to attach to the inputs of a pr of speakers (Example = Edifier R1280DB Powered Bluetooth Bookshelf Speakers) to be used on my desktop? Hope someone can help! David N.

Newbie Intro David N., Single, 75 Yrs. Old My music interests are Classical, Jazz, Folk, Easy Listening, OTRs & Audio Books I want to put together a computer audio system with a budget of around $1,000.00! I have no experience is this area My computer (Windows 11 Pro) is a Beelink SER5 Mini PC,AMD Ryzen 7 5700U(8C/16T,up to 4.3 GHz),Mini Computer 16GB DDR4 RAM 500GB M.2 SSD Graphics 8 core 1900 MHz Wifi6/BT5.2/HDMI+DP+Type-C, . The MiniPC only has USB outputs and a small mini earphone jack (Totally useless)! My budget includes a High Resolution DAC/Headphone AMP Headphones, Speakers and AMP to Run the Speakers if Needed (Totally confused about this area). I don’t play my music loud! I’m not into Blue Tooth (The Equipment May Have It But I Won’t Be Using Blue Tooth For Anything) or low Bass and will only be using wired headphones at home sitting at my computer or else the computer speakers. ANC headphones could come to be useful (Noisy Neighbors) and also light weight. I want to sign up with a High Resolution Streaming Service such as TIDAL or Amazon (I’m a Prime Member and can get 1 Yr of Amazon Unlimited ($7.00 per Month) For the past week I’ve been watching You Tube Videos and checking out info on the internet. I’ve seen a nice set consisting of a High ResolutionDAC & a Headphone AMP. This combo is from Topping, DAC = DX3 Pro + $200.00 (I wish this DAC had MQA support but no luck) Headphone AMP = PA 3s $150.00 I’m not sure how the two would be connected cable wise and if you can also attached a pr of speakers to the amp. I’d hate to have to buy a separate AMP just for the speakers. I want to purchase my DAC/Headphone AMP and Headphones in the next month or 2, The speakers can be purchased later. I’ll keep doing my research on the internet and this intro may give you some ideas for suggestions! Tks, David N.

So, I got this computer a while back and it has 2 m.2 slots (they are small) and the website says it is pcle 3.0 compatible Any chance I could hook up a rtx 3080 to it? I know a rtx 2080 would work with it, but will a 3080 still work with it? Amr5 website

Is there any cooling solutions available for this kind of setup? I don't play games or anything but constantly compiling large projects. I am just trying to extend the lifetime of this PC, not for any performance gain or whatever. Attached is a screenshot of `btm` showing the various temperature sensors. I have no idea how reliable these are...90C seems a bit much.

Budget): $500~ for Barebones Kit Country: USA Games & Other Details: Home Office Build to be VESA strapped behind a monitor as a DIY All-In-One solution, that I can pack into a bag with a USB monitor if I need to work remote. Primary apps include Adobe Creative Suite, primarily Photoshop/Illustrator, a lot of chrome tabs. Mild gaming to include League of Legends, Starcraft II Arcade, and 4x Strategy Games. Doing my own research, I am leaning toward either a NUC 13, or one of those super budget Amazon-brand Chinese Mini PC makers with latest gen AMD APUs. From my reading the AMD build from sussy (but not worst) brand will be 20% cheaper and much more powerful but the Intel one will have better build quality, QA, and Thunderbolt/USB4 accessory compatibility (I am planning to use a docking station). I already have a 2TB M.2 2280 SSD so only need the barebones kit and RAM. I briefly considered an InWin Choppin based ITX build but I dismissed DIY ITX iGPU SFF builds due to cost/performance ratio not making sense vs mobile-based barebones kits. Two sample carts I was considering NUC 13 i5-1340P vs AMD 735HS barebones kits:

So, I have 16GB of DDR5 sodimm RAM (2x8GB) just laying around after upgrading my Laptop. I don't want it to go to waste and I also want to make a very low-power custom router with a mini PC, was thinking of getting a barebones that supports DDR5, has dual RJ45 and go from there, any suggestions for a EU guy?

Hello everyone, I wanted to share my recent purchase, the HP 800 g3 mini, which I plan to use as a NAS system. My primary goal is to create a backup for my Mac data, potentially replacing iCloud for remote access on my iPhone. Additionally, I'm interested in backing up Apple photos (although I'm unsure about the process), and running Plex. While I'll be the main user for backups, a few other individuals occasionally access my media server. After trying out unRAID, I was impressed by its user-friendly interface and have decided to stick with it. As of now, the system boasts a 6th generation i5 processor, 2x DDR4 8GB RAM, a newly added 1TB NVMe, and a 250GB SSD. I'm considering swapping out the 250GB SSD with either a 2TB or 4TB SSD, or perhaps even an HDD (though I'm uncertain about the best choice). Given the current prices, I'm leaning towards 2TB for now, though the idea of future-proofing with a 4TB option is tempting. In terms of software, I'm already running PLEX, Deluge, Sonarr, and Radarr. However, I'm still figuring out the rest of the setup and would greatly appreciate any suggestions. i don't know much about this stuff took me a couple of hours of YouTube to figure out how to set up Deluge, Sonarr, and Radarr so please dumb it down for me. I'm also interested in running Home Assistant if that's a possibility. Thank you all in advance for your assistance and guidance. Your help is much appreciated!

Hi, I'm looking for some advice on a mini PC for gaming. My son would really like to play games like Beam NG, Teardown and games that my current laptop just can't handle. I'm looking mid-range from a price standpoint ($400 - $700) but I see a lot of options available at that range. It looks like Beelink and AceMagician have a lot of options but I wasn't sure if anyone had a suggestions or hands on experience with any that they would recommend. Much appreciated! Thanks, Blake

Budget (including currency): The less the better Country: Spain Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Just for a Media Center, connect a 4k tv I am looking for acquiring a Media Center, or making it, the thing is, what is better for this. I don't know if going with Raspberry pi, or maybe a miniPC, i was also thinking about having 5.1 sound output, and for that maybe is better to build a cheap pc and add the sound card, what do you people think?

Hi all, I found myself in a situation here that i have to leave my belongings behind and check on the family at the mother-island. So i am flying today to Curacao, and i REALLY REALLLY REALLLLLYYY do not want to miss out on playing D4 since day one. I Was wondering if there are any options, between 250-350$, so i can still game there. I have spotted the : Mini PC AMD Ryzen 5 3550H Gaming Desktop for 255 on ebay. My question is: is that a good option ? if not, do you have any golden tips, etc? That would be amazing Sidenote: Yes, curacao is very nice... but for me it's still home. I don't get to really enjoy it that much. Hence me wanting to D4. Thanks in advance boys!

hi all i am getting 4650g and x300 deskmini and have 2 options for memory and cant decide since i dont know how its gonna affect the apu so i can get crucial 2*8 3200 cl22 sodimm for 50 euros - new taken out of new laptop or i can get crucial balistix 2*8 3200 cl16 sodimm for 100e from amazon dont know much about memory speeds and timings especialy in x300 so not sure if its worth it to go for cl16 memory since i dont know how x300 gonna handle it, is it gonna go full speed or it will run slow as cheaper memory i would rather spend those 50 euros on larger nvme or a better cooler if its not gonna affect performance as much. any advice on this? or any other thoughts about that hardware, really appreciated thanks for any info

Hello Everyone I want to share my design of the mini case It's a very time-consuming project It's a pity that I can't upload more pictures. I still have a lot of details to share I'm trying! Case Plan My goal is to design a case that can replace parts freely It's smaller than the Gigabyte thunderbolt 3 gamengbox dock or NUC 9 Extreme It can be an x86 soft routing / Gamingstreaming Server / Remote Workstation Case Specifications Case Size 2.6liter 156x192x90mm Motherboard NUC with Intel or AMD GPU Size MAX 186x122mm 2slot Power 12v 400w Industrial power supply Cooler 1U LGA2011 Soaking plate + Fan 3x7010 1x9013 Storage Drive The only m.2 port is connected to the GPU, and there is a 2.5-inch SATA hard disk in the chassis. Because I think the bandwidth of SATA is not as fast as that of usb3.1, so I currently use usb3.1 to m.2 SSD

I'm planning a build around the Sliger CL520 and I wanted to use a Ryzen 5800X when they drop, but I'm having trouble finding a low-profile cooler that would both prevent it from thermal throttling, and fit in the damn case. The cooler has to be 53mm or shorter to fit in the case and be rated to handle 105W. Any recommendations would be duly appreciated!

Hi everyone, I hope someone can help me with this. The title almost says it all. I bought a used Fujitsu Esprimo Q556 which works great. I bought this to use proxmox and have a small, energy efficient but still powerful (when needed) homeserver. It's the i7 6700t cpu version. I recently upgraded the 2x4GB RAM sticks to 2x8GB RAM sticks but this is not related to the issue. I found an energy whitepaper online from Fujitsu that says the Q556 with i7 an HDD, slim ODD and WOL enabled will only consume around 4 W Idle (in Windows 10) and 0.14 W in Poff (ACPI Status S5). But mine already consumes 9 W when shut down (no WOL, SSD, no ODD). I updated the BIOS, reset the BIOS settings and disabled everything I don't need (second sata port, WOL etc.) Does anyone know how those "high" power draws can be lowered? Thanks in advance. PS: While 9 W isn't that high it certainly is much higher than the 0.14 W. In my daily use Proxmox uses 14-16 W which is already better than my old i7 2600 or something. I also want to have it run 24/7 so those 0.14 W aren't the goal but in my head I think that reducing the 9 W off to 1 W off will most likely reduce the 16 W Idle to near 10 W Idle or so..

Budget (including currency): < 100 $ Country: Russia Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: office work, light video editing, mediacenter Details: So I just happend to salvage a gaming laptop carcass from a colleague and I want to renovate it into something workable for my grandpa. Thoughts, ideas and comments are much appreciated. IMG20221204224928.heic It WAS an MSI GS63 once, and still has perfectly fine GTX 1060, i7-8750H, an NVMe SSD, Wi-Fi card and 16G of DDR4 — all tested and working. But pretty much all the rest is busted and/or missing: - downside D-panel is missing - blowers are broken and removed - screen is half-busted and removed with the lid altogether - battery holds almost no charge - Wi-Fi antennae are just dangling around, but work fine I don't know and don't want to know what kinds of horrors this thing has been through. But is would be a shame to send it to waste, because it is still a decently powerful setup, which can even game just fine. So I want to give it a new life in a form of a Frankenstein-style mini-desktop for my grandpa, who still uses an old Toshiba laptop with Gen-2 Core i3 in it with no discrete GPU. It would be a nice upgrade for him. I KNOW it's better to just go and buy him a working second-hand laptop, but I'm really tight on cash and I realy want to reanimate this poor MSI thing. So, here is my plan: 1) Use a quality cardboard box as a base: screw its lid to the laptop using existing mounting holes, longer srews and some washers. I'll cover the contacting surface with electric tabe just in case. IMG20221204224907.heic 2) Use 2 full-size 120 mm chassis fans for cooling instead of replacing stock blowers. I'll mount those on the backside of the box's lid, and cut matching holes. IMG20221204225015.heic 3) Stock blowers use 5V and connect with super-small laptop 4-pin PWM connectors, so I can't use those. I'll wire fans to a Molex controller board like this and then power it via USB with this adaptor. USB provides only 5V instead of 12V, so fans will work at half speed. My guess is that even at half speed a 120 mm fan is more efficient than a super slim laptop blower, or at least comparable. And the setup will work way more silent than an actual gaming laptop. IMG20221204225027.heic 4) Drill some holes in the sides of the main box for airflow, cover them with some mesh to reduce dust. Use the inside of the box to store the power brick, because the cable is too long. 5) Connect the «box-top» monster to a monitor with HDMI and use wireless keyboard and mouse for controls. If everything goes as planned, all the missing parts like fans, controller and an adaptor will cost less than 30$, and the whole thing will only take an evening to assemble and tune. The proper fixing of the laptop with genuine or copy parts from China will cost around 300$, which is way too much for me right now. Sorry for simplistic diagrams part, but I'm not an egineer or an artist to do better. If you have any better ideas — please share! I may find a guy with 3D-printer, but I've got zero experience at modelling and kinda anxious to order something with no prior testing.

Hello hello! I'm planning to upgrade my RP4 setup to a mini pc for plex server. i'll keep using some sort of linux OS to keep the setup similar to the current one. I want something with a nvme and a 2.5 hdd drives and 2.5gbe eth. i'm the only one using it so it's noe likely to be transcoding more than one stream at a time. i'm looking at these models: Minisforum UM690 Minisforum UM773 Lite Minisforum TH50 The 1st one is probably to expensive for what i need. the 3rd one is intel with and older chip and from what i understand is a safer bet for plex transcoding on linux. but it consume more power and it's using soldered ram. it also has the advangage of supporting 2 2.5 ssd 2nd sounds like the better option for me What's your expert opinion? thanks

Why are mini PC's everywhere on amazon??? ones like https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09LSDCYHJ?pf_rd_r=K26J5ARXFBHNWM3D1KZ5&pf_rd_t=Events&pf_rd_i=deals&pf_rd_p=8f7fac40-5c6d-4659-a7cd-eace6012a86b&pf_rd_s=slot-15&ref=dlx_deals_gd_dcl_img_968_dc33799e_dt_sl15_6b and https://www.amazon.com/MeLE-Quieter3Q-N5105-Computer-Ethernet/dp/B0B83Q7N6B?pf_rd_r=K26J5ARXFBHNWM3D1KZ5&pf_rd_t=Events&pf_rd_i=deals&pf_rd_p=8f7fac40-5c6d-4659-a7cd-eace6012a86b&pf_rd_s=slot-15&ref=dlx_deals_gd_dcl_tlt_604_35bdfcb4_dt_sl15_6b&th=1 everywhere???? Most of them are fanless and come with a Celeron chip and almost all say they can run "dual 4k," and come with windows 11 pro. Some of them even say they are good for gaming, one thing I do not believe. Does anyone know why they are everywhere????? I want to know, how well could it actually game and why are companies making them saying that its great for dual 4k. Someone please explain

I just got issued a new work mini PC. It's terrible. I just want to run at 21:9 ratio on my not even that great LG 34 that is about 3 years old. I also want to run one add'l screen. Intel i5 6600T HP elite desk. I am required to use this machine but I can ruin the case with a hole and I can add photo of my motherboard. I saw a video Linus did on "the beast" but the upshot of the video was, "this won't work." I don't want to do custom bios and I don't want to spend a ton of money. I have two old graphics cards at home I can use, I think GTX 960 or something like that, that aren't being used. With all that, can I stay under $100 and be pretty close to plug and play? Is there another option? Should I be able to download some drivers somewhere that will allow me to force a 21:9? Ok thank you so much.

I drive a semi truck coast to coast and I need a small PC that will run iTune movies but will also not be in the way. I have tried using a laptop with an external drive but overtime the vibration and bouncing has made my USB ports start to not work. I have also tried putting a small tower in my passenger seat and I don’t have the USB issues with that as I do with the laptop but it is simply in the way most of the time. I have been looking at Mini PCs as they have a smaller profile than a tower but have the benefit of the usb being replaceable. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

Disclaimer: I guess this could be considered a mod post but I am less interested in the modding and process of modding itself and more with the cooling theory/practice behind it. Forgive me I haven't been active in a while. I have a Leno ThinkCentre M72e 3264 that I purchased to use as a MC server for me and my friends. It's obviously much quieter a more compact than the tower I was using before so I've taken to running it 24/7. My concern however is that from time to time it'll get a decent bit louder and the chassis will be fairly warm to the touch. While I'm sure it's technically fine I'm worried about it affecting it's longevity (and overall quietness) and have considered attaching a fan to the top of it in some way. This is something I had considered briefly while purchasing it but what I didn't realize was that it uses a blower style cpu fan that comes out the front, and only, exhaust. I'm hoping to give some of my thought process here as to what or what not to do and see if you guys can give me some advice on what to do, or if it'll even be worth it, because quite frankly I'm not sure if any of this is even accurate to how airflow and air cooling works. Original Idea: Drill a few holes on top and mount a fan to help blow out the hot air Cpu uses blower style so I'd be going against the Cpu's main fan as opposed to aiding it Would probably just suck out and fresh air from the passive intake vents 2. Just cool the chassis: Drill only the mounting holes ontop and mount a fan to help cool the chassis which will in turn help keep the rest of it cool Even with a thin fan I'd probably have to make sure it's raised a bit which would effect it's effect size but not much Is this even a thing????? Cool Chassis = Effectively Cooler Components???? 3. Drill some holes or cut out a square and cover it with a filter of some sort Give it more fresh/cooler air to work with Might compromise it's intended airflow? (Could the fan handle pushing more air?) 4. Get over it, it isn't worth it but i guess you can do -blank- for luls I appreciate the help.

Just saw the youtube video "Our Smallest Gaming PC Build EVER!" on LTT channel so I had the urge to join the "micro build club" November 2018 I decided to get a project finished that I started half a year earlier. Since I had given my own PC with AMD FX 8350, GTX 1050 ti and 16Gb of DDR3 1600mhz to my oldest son I decided that papa needs a computer of his own. I had bought a cheap AMD Phenom X2 case in a small pc format and came across a Mini ITX motherboard for a good value of cost that I saw fit. Trouble was that the original 250w PSU was not sure to handle what I had in mind. But I decided to try it out with the new MB and RAM I just got. So I was pretty proud to start up my Ryzen 5 1600x with my old GTX 1050 ti and find out it was working. But sometimes I felt it was struggling. So... In december 2018 I had my new setup at home and was ready to get my gaming refreshed and be the gamer I was ment to be. ? I play all my games on high/ultra 1920x1080 and games include Destiny 2, Overwatch, Diablo III, Sniper Ghost Warrior 3, Rise/Shadow of theTomb Raider (actually in 3d on my Benq w1300 beamer) aso....
