  1. This has been copied from the original Community board, it will be updated shortly This will be a place for events within the Folding (and sometimes Boinc) community to be posted. It is also a good place to introduce yourself to the rest of the team and ask questions if you have them. If you have an event you would like to organize post it here and PM me about it. Current or upcoming events: In case you are actually living under a rock there is currently a global pandemic of COVID-19 which team LTT and folding@home is working to solve!!! (If you have an event you are trying to organize or would like to participate in please post in this thread and PM me) Nothing right now to announce. But a lot of changes have happened as we have a new Folding team leader: Congratulations to @GOTSpectrum Also check the badge thread as there is now also a diamond level badge for anyone with more than 1,000,000,000 points. If you need to check on final places or prize winners for Folding Month 2019 please check the blog post below as it will have all the information for you. Folding@home team LTT id#: 223518 Boinc teams are all called LinusTechTips_Team Results from past events: Folding month 2019!!! Sprint for 10th! BOINC Pentathlon 2019 LTT Official Folding Month 2018! First LTT folding week results (3/26-4/1/2018): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NerB4jOfgEG_l9mcxxMNTe6hboswk6V-hLiSLMDp7gc/edit?usp=sharing My folding story and also my reasoning for the first event: It was a long time ago when discovered this thing called distributed computing and a piece of software that will use your computer power to help fight against many diseases including cancer . When I started folding I also joined the Linus Tech Tips team (it was actually @Slick's old Ultimate Distributed Computing build that got me into it.) and considering that the mining craze had died down a bit and its still cold for those of us in the northern hemisphere. I was wondering if we could get the whole community together to donate as much of their compute power as they can to Folding At Home (yes it is true that every little bit helps) for some amount of time (title says a week but can easily be extended if we can do it). Obviously the encouragement is to fold to the Linus Tech Tips Team #223518 but since folding is a good cause no matter what there would be no complaints about folding for another team. But one of the pieces of this that really encouraged me was looking at the team ranking for LTT and realizing that we have dropped to 14th considering that when we started we were at least 11th. Long story short fold (preferably for LTT), get your friends folding get their friends folding and even if you bring in complete noobs we have a whole community here to help them. I will link the guides here as well as the video that got me into it. For those that still need some encouragement here's the video that started it all for me: New F@H (Folding@Home) FAQ & Guide for all info on how to install and use F@H: If you are too lazy for all of that here is a link to the site to download it https://foldingathome.org/#downloads If any of you have any questions or need help getting your system set up (there are some things that can be tricky at first and I know sometimes reading the guides can be tedious) please feel free to post here where people with more experience than I can help you or pm me if need be. TLDR: A team that folds together... stays together?... you know what I'm sticking with that one. Huge thank you to everyone involved from all of you and the moderators getting this pinned to people just helping each other out on setups and spreading the word to anyone here who is just folding. I never though that this was going to pick up any traction at all and now its an actual bonafide event. So thank you all and let the folding begin!
  2. —-SKIP TO THE ANYWAY IF THIS IS IRRELEVENT—- Hello all, I’m sure this isn’t an uncommon question but what’s the most profitable software or service used to mine? just looking to make some passive income. My PCs are on 24/7 and all hardlined through my house. I doubt thru-put is relevant but my office has my modem, main pc, and an 8 port switch (the modem has 2 Ethernets, ports cannot be bonded/aggregated) then two lines coming up from the basement, one’s connected to my server for file transfer among other things and other to a 16 port switch. from that switch we hit the ten ethernets on my server - yes a real server, a 2U rack (U2?). Then it goes to my living room which has a 8 port switch. all of them are tp-link unmanaged switches, same model except the 16. That guy is weird because I can’t do anything with it, that is to say punching in the IP, I can’t access a login page or change anything (found manual online, Deff can’t) anyway here’s the specs, not including the handful of laptops that would probably be better off not mining, rather doing server stuff. Load balancing, ADDS, blah blah pc -5900x overclocked (sorta) to 4.3 steady, I won’t let it go higher cause yesterday my 1000w seasonic suddenly pooped outta nowhere as I was mining and doing stuff -asus/ROG crosshair viii WiFi (whatever’s on their site, x570 NOT the dark hero) -asus strix 4090 RTX OC 24g -PCI 1x to 16x, xfx quik amd 6600 8gb -xfx merc amd 6700 xt 12g -dell nvidia quadro 4000 rtx (Nicehash says dell, I dono, sure lol) ^these are in order as placed in the motherboard. Config can’t be changed as the cards are 2 slots wide except for the quadro, which has to stay on the bottom otherwise my headers aren’t accessable -4x Corsair vengeance (I think, I forget cause I bought diff ram due to the QVL) but I do know it’s 18cl, 3600mhz and 16 gig each putting us at 64 total. All we’re hand picked as I wanted nearly matching serials and most of all made in the same country -2x Samsung 980 pros, 1tb. Main drive is on the top slot, obviously. The other is used as a global spare for my RAID setup -8x Samsung uhm… 870s, 1tb each ^4 are on raid 10, 4 global spares including the NVMe. Hey, had data loss before, won’t happen again! -seasonic 1000w bronze whatever, that’s in the case (anyone wanna buy a 1500w platinum / Corsair? Hsx1500i, something look it up on their site. It’s the EU version, won’t get into why except apparently it’s more efficient) -another PSU, a “game max” 1050 bronze. The seasonic didn’t have enough ports for the 4090 AND the rest of the cards ^that config is well, pretty logical. Seasonic is powering the motherboard, 2 cpu headers and the 4090 the ”gamemax” is ONLY powering the other gpus, the riser, and the SSDs should also mention I’m not daisy chaining any power. So that little guy with 2x six pin plug? Just using one plug for each card NOT both the server has 394gb of ram? Something crazy, 24x dimms, all Samsung ram (I think) again same serials, close enough and all same country/year/date of manufacture. It’s Deff DDR4, forget the speed who cares 2x intel Xeon 6790s? I forget, long story. 2.4ghz, I beleice 8 cores and 16 threads each for sake of this post, won’t get into the storage as it’s irrelevant. 8x iscsi (right?) and a plethora of other drives via usb, I know there’s 6 sata SSDs in there. Plus I have a arourus (?) asus something or other that houses 4x Kingston furies (or rampages, whatever was the fastest) at 1tb. Yes, transfer speeds are bleeping crazy, a gb a second from the iSCSI raid setup yeah their all on raid, each drive aside from the usb 3 ones. Can’t lose data! ANYWAY Nicehash is pulling in about 4$ a day between the server, 4 GPUs and my cpu its all water cooled, overkill water cooled. Ain’t getting into that lol. I have a 500ml/dc5 pump, 1L “fish tank” with another dc5 just helping the top radiator circulate water. It’s using the drain plugs so it’s somewhat not in the loop. That’s connected to a 420mm by 60mm (yep) pulling air out with 3x thermal take 140s. Whatever the fastest fans are, 2000rpm. They’re like 80$ a pop, something crazy Custom water blocks for the motherboard, 4090 and 6700 couldn’t find any for the 6600 (really it don’t need it) or the quadro. THAT needs one, she’s a beast! so without the 4090 going I lose like 3$. Kinda strange cause before I had it, I swear I was pulling in 3$ or so just with the server/6700/6600/4000 ANYWAY to the point whats the most profitable service, don’t know too much about mining so apologies if I’m a dummy. Nicehash I’ve seen ads for so I went for it. I look on forums and ppl say use XMrig. Ok that’s fine and dandy but…. Don’t I need a service to manage my junk? Like my wallet, it deposits idk every 4 hours. if not, how do I step away from Nicehash assuming their taking a fee of some kind? should I sideload nicehashOS? Maybe Ubuntu or Kali (it’s lightweight that’s why I mention it). I’m assuming I can’t use virtual machines and have direct IO with my cards then as far as the overclocking goes (nice hash settings OR manually), which route to go? If I’m mining I won’t be using the pc at all, so that could serve as a reliable stress test. Leaving cpu where it is, I do anything more it’ll blow up as I’m at 86c then the “extra parameters” - what else can I do if anything to increase profits? If that isn’t related, what’s it for? Nicehash just says “go” and makes it foolproof, if I can utilize the extras, sure. Maybe a cheat sheet would help? oh and is there a cheat sheet as far as overclocking my cards go? Say overclock-cheating.com, look up my 4090 and bam, there’s a starting point? the quadro won’t get overclocked at all, at 100% load I’m at 86c, any more and it’s useless in hashing also any other relevant information or education would be great. I suck up knowledge like a sponge when it comes to IT stuff OH OH, as it’s setup now, pump, 2 360s (one 60mm), then my cpu motherboard block, the 420x60 on top, then a slim 120 (ran outta room lol), then 4090 to 6700 and pump inlet. ill be putting the pc back together today as it’s been an open case for months now. Don’t ask lol. I have a spare 140x60 I can put under the pump now that I took out the 1500w - too long for the radiator. Would it serve any benefit to go 4090 out, into the 140, out to the 6700 then into the pump? That 4090 kicks some heat, figure it couldn’t hurt. I’m using soft tubing and it would take maybe ten minutes to shove it in there. any knowledge/education would be awesome!!!!! whoop whoop, keep rockin peeps, thanks!!!
  3. So a mining company located somewhat locally apperently went bankrupt, and now is having to sell all its assets. Among the inventory is ~200 lose Radeon RX 580 GPUs, dozens of integrated rigs, and more. From what I can see of their inventory, it was a sizable opperation. I'm sharing this here to share some schädenfreude with all of you who dispised the driving up of GPU prices the mining boom incited. And who knows, maybe there are some Dutch people here who also want to pick their bones clean. (auction closes the 7th at 17:00 GMT) < link removed > Be aware that even though it is an online auction site, they don't do delivery; you can't (easily) have it shipped to you. I've had to go to their warehouse to pick up a big SAN setup before. So if you do want to bid, REALLY check if you can pick it up/get a corier service to do the pickup.
  4. Howdy Friends, I've searched around the internet for a while now and realized that I have some somewhat cool things that don't seem to have any real info online past a couple of articles: https://videocardz.net/amd-bc-250-mining-card https://www.techspot.com/news/93980-14800-asrock-mining-rig-powered-12-playstation-5.html I have on hand 120 of these AMD BC-250 Mining Cards as part of 10x AsRock mining rigs that were purchased ~18 months ago. Currently I run Ubuntu Linux 20.02 LTS w/Awesome miner installed on each card via a Sandisk 32GB usb. Mining wise they are on a profit switching setup through our custom AwesomeMiner config. As everyone can see, they draw roughly 80-100w depending on temperature mostly with the stock clocks. on ETC they run around the 48-51MH/s mark, though through minor tuning I have been able to hold around 55-57Mh/s without any noticeable temperature or power increase. Here are the readouts of the cards from my controller: Core clock: 1145Mhz Memory clock: 450Mhz Core(s) 12/24 8GB Memory More pictures: https://photos.google.com/u/1/share/AF1QipMVlxImOsVOb18QG45vbgjZ1nplOY7Jv0DH2hZwIHgHoVaxOOLREKvvEHFPv-BMAQ?key=Y1NOaWYyMXptRGJVN2ZwdWVQeVE5Ny1STXE1Z0Rn (will update with significantly better photos soon) I know its not a ton of info on the cards, I'm just being lazy and not entirely sure what Is and isn't worth posting about them. I'm happy to field questions/give more photos as people wish.
  5. there is old asic miners profitable for me more than new ones but I am somewhat worried about malfunctions and problems and the difficulty of managing old devices and their lifespan, so advise me where to go. like Antminer S19j Pro+ 122TH vs Antminer S21 Hyd 355TH
  6. Hey fellas, Just picked up a MSI RTX 2060 SUPER VENTUS GP OC for cheap!!! Card is super clean, still had all the rubber output connector plugs, box w/ documentation, anti static, etc... Only paid $130 locally on Fb... From the brief conversation I had with the seller, I'm pretty certain the card was used for mining... **** MAIN ISSUE / QUESTION **** I ran a benchmark using MSI Kombuster in order to verify temps, and that the clock speeds were boosting to where they should be, etc... Its boosting all the way up to 1950mhz and will stay there for quite a while before dropping down to 1800/1750mhz... Which is fair bit higher then the cards factory rating... The spec sheet shows a boost clock of 1665mhz. I then checked the bios version on the card and GPUz shows version: 90.06.4c.00.65 Upon searching on Techpowerup for the card model and that bios version is says that "Warning: You are viewing an unverified BIOS file." Does this mean that, that bios version is not stock and is a modified bios in order to boost the cards specs? ******* Normally I would be thrilled and not mined at all that the card is "Over clocked" and running as fast as possible! But I purchased this card to upgrade my daughters gaming pc I Built her a few years back. So because of that I want the card to be stable as possible without having to monitor it or even think about it at all. In just a few minutes I'm going to clean and replace the thermal compound and run the card though a long stress test and monitor the temps. I'm thinking that as long as the temps stay below 90c and is boosting to at least the stock 1665mhz, then it should be perfectly fine. I'll make sure to set a decent fan curve when I install it in her tower. ***** Sorry for the long elaborate post. Just want to make sure I gave all the details, etc... Thanks for your help!!!
  7. Yo guys Someone from china(yeah thats my country) has used something like deceptive software to go around NVIDIA`s DirectX Block on P106, which Im sure you guys know, is specific designed for mining. I got his tutorial file attached if anyone is interested, since its chinese, I did my best to translate it. It seems after cracking its DX block ,this thing`s performance can be nearly identical as a GTX1060 6G Im still uploading that cracked driver to my google drive, once its done I`ll post link here BTW, how do I let Linus know about this? Maybe LTT can do a video about this P106.docx
  8. Hello, i am new in this worl of mining, I installed Kryptex, which i have read is the safest way to mine, but i have the doubt that if i use my personal rig for mining as this software uses my resources, that it can hack my system and detect my bank credentials or something similar, i usually do a lot of money transfers daily for my job (working from home) and personally. so i am not sure if this i a good idea. I have 2 pcs Basically a 1060 6gbs And my main rig is a equiped with a 2070 Super. And lastly, is it worth it.? is it worth the risk (if there is any) Thanks
  9. I really don't understand why NVIDIA and AMD bother selling their cards at "normal" prices. Even if you were to get a 2070 into the hands of a gamer at MSRP, that person is likely to just turn around and sell the card for a few hundred bucks. I would much rather stick with my old card until crypto crashes and let the chip makers cash in right now instead of having them let scalpers take half of the "end price" of a card. NVIDIA also seems to be producing cards destined for the landfill to cash in on some of that crypto money that scalpers are taking. If AMD and NVIDIA were honest and chased the money the simple way, then we would avoid thousands of cards destined for the landfill, and perhaps the shortage will introduce more gamers to the second hand market. Reusing old components is great for the environment, and will prime gamers to open to the idea of snapping up old mining cards on the cheap. What do you think? Am I missing something?
  10. I have an intel i5 rig Not Being Used with 2x MSI 970's (4gb cards). Have been thinking about mining for a few years now. I was super hyped to mine ETH & then found out my card doesn't meet the min DAG file size. What is my best mining option with the 2x 970's (hardline watercooled)? Could Ravencoin be profitable? If not, than what other coin? ... I built a newer rig mid 2020 with a Ryzen 9 3950x, Radeon 5700 XT THICC III. Based on the value of pc hardware right now, I am contemplating selling this rig (or at least the core components) and investing the money into ETH. The current value of all components is ~ 5k . If I were to sell the new AMD rig, I would need to use the old Intel rig for my computing tasks, so I would be sacrificing mining on the 2x 970's. Or... option 3 (possibly the best option), I could go without a PC for a few months & use my laptop to complete my computing tasks while I invest 6k in Cryptos & start mining on 2x GTX 970s at the same time. I am a web developer who needs cashflow more than a nice setup at the moment, so this might be doable. And if I need the PC I can just stop mining and reinstall windows. This will be my first time mining & I do plan on building another rig after the price of hardware goes down. I really would like to make the most out of this situation & I know I need to act fast. Thanks guys.
  11. Since everyone is talking about bitcoin mining and GPUs. i did a little research looked up the estimated incomes of some graphics cards. while i was comparing the RTX 3090 and RX 6900 XT, the hourly earning for RTX is 10.72 USD and the hourly rate for 6900xt is only 5.57USD. ( numbers took from NiceHash calcs). Since the performance levels of these 2 cards are relatively close, why is there a huge mining earning gap between the cards? I'm genuinely curious. Please don't come at me I'm not a miner and i have zero intentions to mine coins lol.
  12. Hi everyone, I'm a complete noob with mining so please be gentle. I have 2 rigs, a media rig with a GTX1060-6GB, and my main rig with 2xGTX1080-TI. Media Rig is a standard air cooled setup maybe a tiny overclock on the GPU, but nothing to write home about. Main Rig is a custom loop watercooled setup, both cards happy at 2GHz all day long without breaking 60 dev ever, 55 is a rarity. So I watched Linus' video and downloaded nicehash miner (not quickminer). And this is my performance (See pics).... My 1060 has a higher MH/s than the 2 1080-TIs Can anyone here point me to what to look for? Obviously something is config'd wrong. According to this https://miningchamp.com/gpus/272/EVGA-GeForce-GTX-1080-Ti-hashrate I should be expecting roughly double what I am getting from each card. SLI is turned off, I assume that's how they need to be? Other than that the mining is configured pretty much how it came out of the box, I did "update" all the algorithms.
  13. Hi, New poster here but long time ltt viewer! So my question is a three parter: part 1 - Is there a virtual machine that has direct gpu access that I could use for crypto mining? (I tried the hyper visor built in to windows 10 but I don't know if there is a way to get gpu access in it). part 2 - is it better to dual boot and mine on a separate os and drive? part 3 - how do you enable wifi on ubuntu 20.04 for a wireless usb adapter? Basically i'm scared to put in an exception on norton antivirus to let the mining go if i were to leave it on a long time. I have several drives on my gaming pc I'm planning on using. My ideal goal is to mine for awhile and see if its worth it but have a little fun while doing it - Please note i had setup a basic usb asic on a raspberry pi 3 a while ago (but since stopped and want to go larger) so i have a basic understanding of the procedure (well sub basic as it still eludes me). Also i have ubuntu 20.04 installed on a usb drive that i want to mine on but i can't get it to recognize my linksys usb WUSB6100M. I've tried the rf kill command to reenable wifi but i'm still a rookie at linux so i'm not comfortable with terminal commands - though i grew up on dos 6.0 so i do have command line experience just not linux command lines. Sorry for the somewhat disjointed post here. It's kind of all related. Basically whats the safest way to mine without subjecting my windows 10 gaming drive to unnecessary risk? Oh and if you're wondering my gaming rig is: amd 3600 nvidia 3060 ti 8gb 16gb ram Thank you! edit - for the time being I just installed folding @ home and joined the team for the covid19 battle. I had contributed some time a while back so I wanted to be useful again while I fool around trying to get the mining thing worked out.
  14. Hi I can't seem to get my Memory junction temps lower than 108/110c. I have 80mm fans pointed at my 3080 and it's not helping at all. I have even tried with the card outside the case but Junction is 110c whilst core is 35c! Do I really have to water cool my brand new card and void warranty? Only thing I can think of is thermal pads but warranty too... At this rate the card wont last long. I have a 6800 xt and the junction temps on that never go above 80c This issue appears when mining dagger hashimoto and I can't go above 70/80 MH/s as mem overheats in seconds. I have some thermal pads on order as the ones they're using seem ultra soft and ultra low dissipation rate. New thermal pads and following this helps https://www.igorslab.de/en/simple-pad-mod-for-the-force-rtx-3080-founders-edition-slowers-the-gddr6x-temperature-by-a-whopping-8-degrees/
  15. Asus B250 Mining Expert. Where is the on switch?
  16. Budget (including currency): Country: UK Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Other details : AMD 3900x, Nvidia 3090 FE, Nvidia 1080ti FE, ASUS Crosshair VIII Formula, Hi Guys, I've been looking around and cant find an answer to this as its not a normal use or something people would think of doing. So any thoughts or help would be great. I recently upgraded my 1080ti to a 3090. I was using my 1080ti for mining when I wasn't gaming, so I want to keep the 1080ti and mine on it 24/7. I was wondering if I could buy an eGPU enclosure to house the 1080ti, to move it out of my system for temperature and power reasons. A used eGPU would be cheaper and more power efficient than a bare bones PC. I have an Asus Crosshair VIII formula motherboard and 3900x, the mobo has a USB-C port but no thunderbolt. Can you connect a thunderbolt eGPU to a USB-C port?
  17. So I have a Sapphire Pulse RX 560 4GB Mining Edition graphics card with one DVI-D output port (mining bios) I put her in my computer, installed new windows 10 but when I wanted to install drivers from Radeon Adrenalin it couldnt install it. First time it said something like "untrusted drivers do you want to install it..." and every other time it "installed" normal but it didnt install it ? How can I fix that ? Do I need to flash bios or something like that ?
  18. What are your thoughts on the new beta pi mining for Mobile devices??? Do you think there could be video on it? I'm actually not to knowledge in mining and I know there are videos everywhere but linus and the crew explain things show much simplar.
  19. Anyone know how i can figure out my electrical cost in kilowatt hours (gbp/kwh) im thinking of getting into mining but on nice hash I'm not sure what to put into the gbp/kwh box on the profit calculator, i spend around 80 pounds a month on electric if that is relevant, thanks
  20. Hello guys! I am recently new to bitcoin and mining. So I started to mine with NiceHash. My question is what is the best way for me to convert my bitcoin into real money with smallest amount of fees. I want to transfer it and to stay in my bank account, but I read that first I need to send it to coinbase and then transfer it to my credit card. But i have a little problem and cant register to coinbase because it wants me a bill with my name , adress and so on. I provided them 3 different types of bills and still cant register. I will be grateful if someone can help me and explain to me how it works. Thank you!
  21. Nvidia thinks they can pull a fast one on gamers looking to grab an RTX 3060, but we know you're smarter than that - Let's dig deeper and see if we can figure out why they're launching cryptocurrency mining cards...
  22. Some of you may already be aware of the issue with the VRAM Temperatures on the RTX 3080 and 3090 GPUs (Especially the FEs). HWINFO64 now shows the GPU Memory Junction temp. While gaming, the temperature of the VRAM on these cards loves to hover around 90c-103c! According to Nvidia, this is within spec and "should be fine". Like almost everyone else and their dog, I have also been following the current crypto craze and began mining with my 3080 while not gaming to experiment and earn a bit of side cash. However, these high VRAM temps seem to be exacerbated when performing any VRAM intensive tasks (e.g. Rendering or Mining). I have observed temps of 106-108c while maintaining a MH/s of 99 and 75% PL on 80% Fan Speed. If the fans are turned down lower, the VRAM will redline at 110c and throttling begins. I engaged an Nvidia Customer Service rep via their live chat and asked if this behavior was normal and if operating these cards at this kind of temperature for 24/7 workloads would cause excessive harm (obviously using your GPU will shorten it's lifespan, but there's a difference between getting 3 years out of a card and getting 3 months). The customer service rep said that as long as the core clock temp was below 70, the card was working as expected the VRAM is within spec to go up to 110c. If it were to fail under these conditions within three years of purchase, it would qualify for an RMA. Now, weather or not Nvidia Customer Service is qualified to make statements like that, I'm not sure. Would any of you see an issue with allowing GDDR6x to sit at around 104-108c for 24/7. You would assume that operating your GPU underneath the throttle point would be fine, but it's hard to tell how hot these chips are actually supposed to get. Whats the community's take on this issue?2
  23. I've searched for this answer between and I couldn't get an answer, but I was wondering if I could mine with a GTX 3070 on a Dell Alienware X51 R2 Andromeda Intel Desktop Motherboard s1150 PGRP5. Would the mother board bottle neck the GTX 3070 or would it run like normal.

  25. Hello guys. Currently i started mining with my rtx 2080 ti. The card is factory oc but i did some overclocking too. So i bumped core clock+150 and memory clock+1100 do you think that is the best clock because i get rejected shares with job not found and high ms error. What are the best settings for that card and mining because i cant find them in internet.
