I cant say, I have ever posted my own topic to a forum before. So I hope I am putting this post in the right place. I recently purchased a ROG Strix GL702VM Gaming Laptop in the 7700HQ series with the 1060GTX with 6GB of GDDR5. I upgraded the M.2 SSD to a Samsung PRO 960 M.2 NVMe 512GB and installed 32GB of HyperX Ram to give it more juice to work with. While I was upgrading these things I thought why not get a new monitor while I'm at it. I now have a shiny new ASUS PG27AQ UHD 4K IPS monitor. (Thanks to the video review Linus did on it) I wanted to utilise the Mini-DisplayPort on the laptop to drive the 4K monitor as it (and the Thunderbolt 3 port I think) is the only way to enable the G-Sync on the monitor. However when I connect the Mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort 2m cable in, the only options I get for resolution are 1024x768 or 800x600 (Note: the cable was aftermarket and only $8 so it wouldn't surprise me if that is the issue but I want to make sure its nothing else before investing in yet another cable). I can get the monitor to work properly with a HDMI with resolution 1920x1080 at 60Hz or 3840x2160 at 24Hz. (And no G-Sync support) I would much prefer to utilise what I paid the $$$ for in the monitor but I cant seem to work out what the problem is. I have, - made sure the drivers are up to date - checked if it was a setting on the monitor - looked up to see if anyone else was having this issue with this monitor but all I keep getting are reviews on how good the monitor is rather than anyone having any display issues. - looked up the specifications on the Mini-DisplayPort on the laptop is capable of and it seems to support it, especially considering the laptop explains to you that G-Sync will only work via that port (and or Thunderbolt 3, again I think) - looked up on the GTX 1060 6GB to see if it is capable of driving such a monitor. The Nvidia website seems to only list up to the Titan X to support 4K but I do believe that list is out of date considering there is no way a GTX 1080 wouldn't support 4K, and as I mentioned earlier it will push the resolution via HDMI just at a terrible refresh rate. (And no G-Sync) - I also got my old portable optical drive out to spin up the CD the monitor came with, just in case there was some specific driver I needed to install on the computer but all it had on it was the Manual (which was zero help with this issue) and a outdated Nvidia Driver. - As a last ditch attempt to work it out, I factory reset the laptop as I didn't have much on it yet anyway and that still didn't fix the issue. I only have a few ideas on what it could be but I just don't know enough to make a proper decision. Coud it be, - the $8 cable is just terrible and I should get a better one? - the cable too long? It's 2m - 'Active DisplayPort Cable' issue? I remember way back when I used DisplayPort last time I had issues with this, could this be a similar issue? - I should be using a Thunderbolt 3 to DisplayPort cable instead Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. I don't want $1350 worth of monitor to be wasted on HDMI 1980x1080 60Hz with no G-Sync.

Hi, so i just bought a mini displayport to standard displayport cable 1.4 since my laptop only support mini displayport and hdmi. When i connect my laptop (MSI GL62m 7rdx) to my external monitor (ACER VG240YP) via minidp -> dp. I keep getting screen flicker. Any ideas?. Does the dp cable effect the screen flicker if my monitor can only use dp1.2 but the cable is dp1.4? here is the link:

So, I have a miniDP to DVI adapter that I tried using on my Alienware 13 but I don't get any kind of detection of another display when connected through it. I originally used in on my old Asus G46W (?) and it worked fine. Do Alienware laptops need an active miniDP adapter? I guess it's possible that my adapter could just be broken as I haven't used it in quite a while and I don't have any other device with a miniDP to test it out on.

Hi Guys, I have a Surface Pro 3 with the Pro 3 docking station and the issue i have is that the miniDP on the dock doesnt work (the one on the side of the surface works perfectly), however if i put another surface pro 3 in the dock it works perfectly fine, i have rebuilt the surface several times, updated it will all of the latest updates and patches and still got nothing Has anyone got a Surface Pro 3 and the dock with this issue? Or does anyone have any ideas on how i could try resolving this I plan on phoning Microsoft later but i thought i would mention it on here first Cheers, Jamie

Hi everyone! I am going out of my mind here with this damn HDMI and apparent 1080p capping. I know that some manufacturers limit their respective HDMI ports to 1080p, but I didn't think Dell was one of them in the case of the XPS One 27 Touch, because after all, the 27" panel in the XPS 2710 is a WQHD (2560x1440) display. Dell also advertises the fact that the HDMI spec used in the XPS 2710 is HDMI 1.4, which most definitely supports even 4K resolution. At any rate, I have a late-2012 Mac mini, which has miniDisplayPort (as part of Thunderbolt) and HDMI for video out. Apple is one of those manufacturers that limits the HDMI output to 1920x1080 (1080p), so to get any higher resolution than 1080p, I have to go through DisplayPort. That's not a problem as far as the Mac is concerned, as I easily attain 2560x1440 with my 27" LED-backed IPS Apple Cinema Display. I like both Macs and Windows machines and ever since Windows 8 came out, I've wanted a 27" touch-screen monitor and when I found a great deal for the high-end Core i7 version of the XPS 2710, I ordered one. I was lead to believe that it would be possible to use the XPS 2710 as a primary or secondary display, because it not only has HDMI out, but also HDMI IN. Needless to say, all I could get was a horrid looking Mac desktop in 1920x1080, no matter what I tried. Of course, the fact that a high-end PC made in 2013 would not have DisplayPort or DVI is somewhat tragic in and of itself. At any rate, the fact that I can't get a dual-monitor setup in 2560x1440 working with these two monitors is extremely disappointing. And again, the problem does not lie with my Mac, because the HDMI port in my Mac mini drives my 1080p projector just perfectly, while at the same time driving my 27" Cinema Display at full 2560x1440 resolution. I wish I could connect the XPS 2710 in the same manner. #$%^&*( :((((( And why is it that Dell even bothers with an HDMI IN port on the XPS 2710??? I am asking because any LCD's resolution other than its native (=highest) resolution scaled down will look grainy (=crappy). Is there maybe a hack available that forces the HDMI IN port to accept 2560x1440? Thanks for any help! :)
