Hello!! I'm looking to host a minecraft server for a few friends of mine. I'm curious if there is an option for deploying one on my Ubuntu server in a docker container and be able to make changes to the Minecraft server through a web gui. That way I can grant access to my less technically apt friends for them to add mods or adjust world settings. Are there any viable options for me? If for some reason I need to run it on a physically separate server in order to do so that's fine as well. Thank you for your time!

Budget (1000$ USD): Country: USA Games, Minecraft. Other details, needs to be power efficient with a powerful cooler (heat is dreadful here) I host a Minecraft server on a Kindle Fire 8 (10th gen) and will need an upgrade SOON I have around 20 clients now, but in the last month we have gained seven new members so seeing as I'm hitting the limits of this custom-cooled tablet (92mm pc fan drawing heat away from the CPU) Here are your requirements (note this Minecraft server is enormous to me and this upgrade is scary so please be kind I'm already facing 2 days of downtime to make this happen) The data this server holds is mission-critical to this server running I run nearly 24/7 and downtime is to be avoided here 500 GB should be acceptable as I run without mods and our world file is at 150MB right now) (redundancy is needed here) AMD or Intel I don't care a bit so long as there's little downtime WIFI is a nice to have as I run locally and need both a wired and wireless connection (for redundancy) ddr4 or ddr5 should work (32 / 64GB ram more is better) I have a battery backup with 1.2kwhs (1200 watt-hours) so that's taken care of! I do have an RX 5500 4GB (non-XT) I could use for a video output I do not run a Realm I run a Minecraft world, and then that world is set to public and people join it it's dead simple and it's set to friends only so I can control who joins that world Hosting through a cloud service is not a option for me

Hello, My brother is running an mc server on his computer and wants to port forward it. We tried to port forward it on the opnsense nat, but it did work. We tried both his computers IP and our public IP. Any tips or advise? The server runs on port 25565 on his computer.

Hello guys, Recently built my own PC with a Ryzen 5 3600 and RTX 2060. I want to host a Minecraft server for me and my girlfriend to play on, but her laptop isn't as capable. I was wondering if there are any settings, or any way to create a Minecraft server where all of the rendering and calculations are done server side (e.g. on my PC). Think of GeForce NOW or Google Stadia...I saw some blog posts about using AWS EC2 instances for Steam + VPN game streaming, but this is local on my PC (also, I think Minecraft RTX is only for Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition? But can live without RTX). Sorry if this post is not descriptive enough, I'll try to summarise here: I need to setup a Minecraft server which I will port-forward so it can be accessed from anywhere, where all rendering is done server-side thus, any clients joining in only have to have a decent internet connection. Thank you

minecraft server Minecraft Server. Asking for advice
Iron Wolf posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
Budget (including currency): $300 USD, willing to obtain stuff on the used market. Country: United States Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: A Minecraft Server, however I might use it for other things such as a web server or other game servers in the future. I plan on running a 1.16-1.17 spigot/paper server with multiple plugins with at most 25 consecutive players. Current Parts: I Already have a 128gb M.2 SSD for the boot drive that I plan on using, I know that this isn't good for the long term but it is a easy upgrade for the future. I also have a old ATX case which I plan on using. I have all the peripherals already. I would be upgrading from an intel NUC with a Core i3-8121U @ 2.2ghz, 8gb of ddr4 2400, and a m.2 SSD Anyways Here are the 2 build Options I currently have planned So this is the Intel option, I plan on getting the mobo and CPU from the Parkville microcenter. The one disadvantage with the mobo it only has 2 dim slots so if I ever want to upgrade to more memory it wouldn't be as easy. PCPartPicker Part List Type Item Price CPU Intel Core i3-10100 3.6 GHz Quad-Core Processor $100.00 Motherboard ASRock B460M-HDV Micro ATX LGA1200 Motherboard $75.00 Memory Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-2400 CL16 Memory $61.99 @ Corsair Storage Team MP33 128 GB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive Purchased For $29.00 Power Supply EVGA BR 450 W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply $33.98 @ Newegg Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts Total (before mail-in rebates) $304.97 Mail-in rebates -$5.00 Total $299.97 Generated by PCPartPicker 2021-04-10 20:15 EDT-0400 And the second option I've come up with is the AMD build; The advantage of this is that there is room for a 4 dim slot mobo, however the Ryzen 3 3200g isn't multithreaded like the i3 10100, and has slightly worse single-threaded performance I think. PCPartPicker Part List Type Item Price CPU AMD Ryzen 3 3200G 3.6 GHz Quad-Core Processor $119.99 @ Adorama Motherboard Gigabyte B450M DS3H V2 Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard $69.98 @ Amazon Memory Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-2400 CL16 Memory $61.99 @ Corsair Storage Team MP33 128 GB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive Purchased For $29.00 Power Supply EVGA BR 450 W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply $33.98 @ Newegg Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts Total (before mail-in rebates) $319.94 Mail-in rebates -$5.00 Total $314.94 Generated by PCPartPicker 2021-04-10 20:23 EDT-0400 So anyways I just want some advice if I'm going on the right route for a Minecraft server and putting my money in the right places. From what I've heard Minecraft servers don't take advantage of multicore and use a lot of memory. -
Hello everybody, So I've been getting pretty tired of always having to pay for minecraft servers to play on with friends recently. I still have an old mid-range gaming PC laying around and i really want to use it as an always on minecraft server. I might run a few VMs on it later but not for now. The CPU is an i5 4460, motherboard's a H81M-K. Its got 16GB of Ram, a sata SSD and a GTX 750TI. Oh and I think there's a 600W PSU in it. I think I'm definitely gonna take out the GPU, since it consumed a lot of power and I don't need it in a server. So, I have a few questions and Id be really happy if anyone could help me out: -Can I put this built in an empty closet or is it going to overheat? The reason being that it's the only place with ethernet (there's already a network switch in that closet) and i wont be hearing the fan noise. -How much power is it gonna consume? Is there a way to make it more power efficient? Energy is pretty expensive here (30cents/kWh) so I'd be happy if the server consumed like 10watts at idle and 45-60 under load. Is that possible with the CPU I have? I know that it has an 84Watt TDP but I don't think a minecraft server is gonna max out all cores. -Is there a way to make windows enter sleep mode at say 3am and power back on at 10am? That would save me a lot of power I hope. -Lastly, how much bandwidth is a minecraft server gonna use per player? My internet's about 100down/35up. Thanks a lot in advance guys! Have a nice day, Luis

Excuse me, I want to build my own minecraft server ( Minecraft version 1.16.5 with 20 mods, 37 plugins and I want to hold up to 100 people ), I am confused and I don't know how good the hardware is that can run the server well. So I'd like to listen to your opinions. I rented a server( E5-2690 with 4 virtual cores, 1600MHz 8 GB Memories,45GB Intel Pcie SSD and 10Mbps upstream ) three days ago and it runs not very well, The problem is after loading several blocks where the player is located, some terrain outside this area is loaded slowly or even cannot be loaded until I quit the game and log in again. That bother me for a long time. So could you give me some suggestions that how good the hardware is that can run the server which I have mentioned, thanks

I need a recommendation for a Minecraft server CPU. That said here is what the situation is: I currently have a Ryzen 7 2700x ( 3.9 Ghz all core) running dual channel 3200Mhz CL16 RAM (G.Skill Trident Z (non RGB) and I run a modded Minecraft server on it. There are 181 mods/addons and it has 10 gigs of ram dedicated to it and another 10 to my client that I connect with. I have 5 other players and myself who use the server usually 3-4 of us at a time and though there isn't a lot of lag i have noticed it is starting to show as more of the world gets loaded in. I know Intel is generally considered king for Minecraft servers as it generally offers better single core performance what I need to know is what intel CPU can I use that would be more affordable (200 or less new or used) that would equally or outperform my current system processor? I know I want a Z platform MOBO for full XMP support however CPU overclocking isn't a huge concern as long as it is within price range given and outperforms my 2700x in single core or would I be better served just sticking with what I have? I would be running 16 gigs of Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200 Mhz CL16 RAM on the intel build which would allow me to allocate a full 14 gigs to the server as that's all it would be doing (keeping 2 for windows) and free up system ram to throw at my client side RAM allocation. Is this even worth it to do? I mostly just want to reduce server lag for myself and my players. I honestly wish Minecraft would leverage more cores/threads having 8 cores 16 threads is great for photo editing and multitasking but is useless in this situation.

Hi, I have converted an older computer into a proxmox server that I tinker with, but i have a problem. I have tried to make several different minecraft servers on different OS:s, and they work fine locally, but when I try to access with my public IP and port it doesn't work, it just says "connection refused". I'm thankful for any help

I have an old Dell R710 which I just bought new HDD's for and I want to do a full clean install and re configuration of the server. I know my best option is to run ProxMox and have an instance for Ubuntu Server to run the Minecraft server and Satisfactory server with each game getting its own interface facing my DMZ and a second instance of something like TrueNAS that has an interface pointed at my personal LAN network, but I can't be dammed to play with partitioning all my hard drives and figuring out the best combo of drives for each utility. I just want to slap them all into a RAID 6 config and install one OS then eat the security implications of such a setup, so my question is do I use Ubuntu Server which I'm highly familiar with to do it all or am I better off sucking it up and learning to use TrueNAS? I DO have a NAS deployed right now with TrueNAS I just need to replace it, built from literal trash picked parts with slow failing drives, so I have some familiarity with TrueNAS but not much.

is an i5-5257U okay for a Minecraft server?
iCHeWiE posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
hi. i just want to know if the i5 5257U can run a Minecraft server with about 10 people in it with minumum lag? it's the Chuwi Corebox Mini PC... it has 8gb single channel ram, not upgradable, and 256gb ssd storage. the server is only meant to be used by me and a dozen of my friends. Thanks in advance. -
Hi, I'm trying to create my own minecraft server and I want to keep it running 24/7 by using a screening software, If not then what do you propose as a suggestion? and If its a GOOD idea do you know any good screening services?

I'm thinking of making a Minecraft server for my friends. I don't expect to have anything over about 30 people occupying the server and I have no idea where I should start or what a reasonable budget would be. I saw Linus' video on a Minecraft server but I don't want to water-cool (duh) and I don't want more than one server. I also don't own a server rack and was wondering if I need to use a server drawer or if I could just use a normal computer chassis? Thanks!

Budget (including currency): €150-€200 Country: Netherlands Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Hosting a Minecraft server (I'd like it to be able to handle modpacks like Feed the Beast) Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): this is something I'd like to figure out to maybe get it in the near future, but I don't really have a date to need it to be done. I am kind of new in researching parts and I've hit a roadblock, what parts would I need? I don't need support for a high refreshrate or whatever, because I am only going to use it for hosting the server on and nothing else. That's why I'd like it to not be very expensive but I don't know what is needed for this build in specific. Thanks!

I want to build my own Minecraft server that can handle around 5-15 players on a heavily modded server with around 200+ mods and can also run vanilla with around 100 players (not at the same time). I already have an extra 16gb of ddr4 3200 mhz (I know I probably need more than that) and I also have a extra AIO water cooler and a 1TB nvme SSD. If someone can put together a parts list for me for around 400-500$ I would really appreciate it!

so many of you might have seen my server build planning topic, and my head has once again asked, 1. can the 10100 and 10400 do these tasks -smb, like i think its where you download a file or game onto the server, and all the pc's connected can acces the game/file? -Minecraft server for sure can run since my cousin uses his old fx-8350 rig as a Minecraft server -huge amount of hdd, for now 1 3tb drive(and a intel 2.5" ssd 240gb), in the future 5 3 or 4tb drives(for storage of games, pics, minecraft server, and apps for 3d and editing things, ssd mostly to boot, nothing else) heres the list, before i start shoving 5 million drives, no case or gpu, because i already have the case and ill just steal the gpu from my gaming rig, a radeon rx580, to boot my system, etc PCPartPicker Part List Type Item Price CPU Intel Core i3-10100F 3.6 GHz Quad-Core Processor $95.28 @ Amazon CPU Cooler Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black Edition 42 CFM CPU Cooler $33.32 @ Amazon Motherboard MSI MAG B460 TORPEDO ATX LGA1200 Motherboard $99.99 @ B&H Memory Crucial 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-2666 CL19 Memory $110.50 @ Amazon Storage Intel DC S4500 240 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive Storage Seagate Barracuda 3 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive $88.06 @ Amazon Power Supply SeaSonic S12III 650 W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply $49.99 @ Best Buy Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts Total $477.14 Generated by PCPartPicker 2020-12-21 23:48 EST-0500 i told people i found a 8 core epyc for $200, and people said it would perform worse than the i3 or i5 in minecraft server, true?, still the i3 and i5 for now is a nice wannabe server cpu, since im not doing many server tasks, but in the future a epyc might need to be in place

Hi! I am planning on buying a new laptop and using it as a 24/7 minecraft server + some gaming here and there. It has following components: AMD Ryzen™ 5600H Mobile Processor NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 16 GB DDR4 RAM, 512 GB SSD Is this processor enough? I mean, its a mobile processor... As a side note: I have old pc that has i7-7700 and that ran the server really well, and cpubenchmark says this mobile prosessor is BETTER than desktop version of i7-7700. Server has max 10 players at a time and some mods, but not very heavy. (this laptop is only 600€ at the moment at local store, so its super cheap)

I'm currently running a small minecraft server on my Raspberry Pi 4B (Using balenaCloud) and was wondering what I should do if the player base gets too big for the little CPU to handle. I was thinking of an NVIDIA Jetson Nano or something, but that seems a little GPU-focused, so I don't know if that would be a good idea…

I am currently running a Minecraft server network on a computer with ports 25565, 25504, and 25563. I can join the server from the ipv4 address on the computer but, with all the necessary ports enabled (Inbound & Outbound) I can't connect from other computers. I have tried uninstalling my security software and disabling the windows firewall.' I have disabled IPv6 Stack as recommended in the now inactive, https://linustechtips.com/topic/1483006-minecraft-server-firewall-port-forward-issue/#comment-15763311

I'm trying to upgrade a dedicated Minecraft server I made from Frankensteining two old ass pcs together. It works great, but it's running on minimum hardware and I'd like to have a small community (about 20 people at once max) able to play, so I'm trying to upgrade it. It currently has an i3 530, 6gb of ddr3 (frequency unknown 1333 max supported), and a TB hard drive (slow as molasses even for an HDD). I was thinking about an i7 860 since that's the max supported chip, but I would have to get a graphics card. I really have two questions. If I get the i7, what card should I get to output to my display that's not too pricy, but also won't choke while displaying? The other question, Should I just go for a weaker processor with integrated graphics? This isn't really the topic but it would be helpful to have some advice: -should I drop the money on an ssd or does it not matter for the server? I'm not using for anything other than the server, so I'm not worried about startup times and stuff like that. -is the ram frequency going to matter that much for a MC server? it would be nice to spend the money on lower frequency ram and save a few bucks.

Hey there. I put a 100% Vanilla Minecraft server up in my spare bedroom some months back and have been educating myself on the details of being an admin in this environment. We started on my extra R5-2600 and 16GB of ddr4-3000 and a terrible sata ssd. I've upgraded us to a good Samsung NVME drive and doubled the system memory, allocating as much as 24GB to Minecraft if needed. We also upgraded to a 3600X I am trying to improve performance continually while also improving the experience. Currently the draw distance on the server is 18 chunks. When my small group of players is online I am pretty easily able to outfly the redraw of the server. My question is, would a 3900X handle this better simply because it has twice the cache? The small increase is clocks would help slightly, but it's the cache that I think would actually make a noticable difference in gameplay. Is this a reasonable assessment? Can I borrow an R9 processor from someone just to test this? Yes I am serious and would treat the loaned hardware with the utmost respect and replace it in the unlikely event of a failure.
