"London headquartered health tech startup, Limbic, has announced that its psychological assessment tool, Limbic Access, has achieved Class IIa UKCA medical device certification, making it the first and only AI mental health chatbot in the world to earn this status for its clinical effectiveness, safety and risk management. The certification confirms that its mental health e-triage chatbot, which is able to predict mental health disorders with an accuracy rate of 93 per cent, can be safely incorporated into the psychological therapy pathway to support patient self-referral, driving significant efficiencies to support overstretched clinicians and improving patient outcomes." Basically, one of the tools we built, limbic access, is the first chatbot / ai mental health tool to get such a certification, especially in the UK. This marks an amazing start for changing the world of mental health and addressing the bonkers supply problem found there. Taking the EU speficially (due to reliable data), there is one psychoetherapist for every 5000 people1. Seems like it's pretty effective. Thank you Linus and all the members of Linus Media Group and Linus Tech Tips. About a year and a half ago I was planning my suicide after being used twice against my will. After some friends showed concern, I checked myself into a hospital. After the discharge I was still depressed and often layed around after work doing nothing, but the one thing I would do is watch YouTube, specifically Linus Tech Tips and it's sister channels, EEV Blog, the 8-Bit Guy, Chris Fix, Cody's Lab, LGR, Metal Jesus, RetroManCave, Modern Vintage Gamer, the Modern Rogue, and Voultar. All of you helped me carry-on everyday because I had at least something to look forward to everyday, whether it was new material or something I had to catch up with, there was something. I am doing much better now. I do have my bad days but I don't consider suicide as a valid option now. Thank you.

Hey, I recently completed my first major system build (I've built low-end machines in the past), and I was experiencing complete system shutdowns after only 15-20 mins of heavy GPU load (more specifically, Star Wars Battlefront 2 in 4K ultra). After borrowing my friends pc parts we determined that the PSU was faulty under full load and I drove across the UK to buy a replacement. However, even though we ran every benchmark under the sun with the new psu (some simultaneously), and the pc passing them all with more than acceptable results and zero shutdowns, I'm still getting stupid panic attacks everytime I think about playing a game on it or doing my VFX work. (I have asperges which probably isn't helping) I was wondering , for the people who have more experience, if at any point you got disheartened by your first failing part, or nervous to push a build to it's fullest, even though you knew it was most likely safe to do so? Or equally helpful, any tips or advice on how to help overcome these stupid fears? I don't want a 1.5K paperweight!

I already know this one is coming after the WHO classified excessive and compulsive gaming as a disorder. Let's talk about it. Now to everyone reading this thread, it should be kept in mind that regardless of one's position and opinion on the issue, do not let credentials alone bother you because "attempting to prove or disprove a theory or a claim based on mere credentials alone is already a sloppy argument and constitutes the logical fallacy Appeal to Authority or Argumentum ad Verecundiam." So here's the abstract of the counter argument presented at the moment: Looking at the abstract, it actually makes sense. What is the basis of the WHO classifications of "gaming disorder" and the ones they raised is important because they are not arguing against the inclusion of "gaming disorder" in the ICD-11 but rather, they are asking to be on the side of caution. Since the burden of proof lies on the WHO, these researchers felt that some of the claims by WHO are unsubstantiated by evidence. So what evidence are these people looking for? Robust scientific standards are not (yet) employed: The researchers of this counter paper argue that there isn't that much data to corroborate the WHO's claims including the lack of standardized reporting methods for clinical and observational studies as well as the lack of transparency. To be honest, I was looking at WHO's claims and I can't seem to find tests done using an fMRI (functional magnetic resonance imaging) which detects changes in blood flow and neuronal activation. One of the internal signs of addiction is activation of certain areas in the brain just like this one [souce: NCBI]; Unfortunately, I haven't seen one from either sides to prove or disprove each others arguments. But I can already see how it might be hard for scientists to use a fMRI as with any MRI test (contrast or no contrast), it requires the subject or patient to sit still and you can't do that while being inside an MRI machine. One test that I can think off that both sides can use is an EEG or Electroencephalogram which monitors electrical activity in the brain and can diagnose diseases like epilepsy and other neurological disorders and some scientists have used EEG to differentiate a normal brain and someone with an addiction . [sources: here and here] The argument for singling out video games is not convincing: The second one is where their argument falls apart in my opinion or at least it shows the vested interest of the gaming lobbyists. Here, they are saying why is the WHO singling out gamers when in fact there are other addictions worth discussing as well like food, sex, tanning, social media, plastic surgery, occupational and even working out addictions. Now I want to ask, how sure are we that these researchers are not deflecting because this is basically a "red herring fallacy". Why bother bring up some other compulsive behavior when it doesn't disprove anything? Also, how sure are these people that authorities and the WHO in particular aren't paying attention to these other compulsive behaviors? Are we supposed to ignore the ramifications of excessive gaming like the ones I discussed in the original OP [at the top of this thread] because sex addiction is just as bad? If these researchers are actually credentialed people from world-renowned universities, how can they be so sloppy to include such weak and fallacious counter argument? Moral panic might be influencing formalization and might increase due to it: This one is where they argue that with the current classifications of the WHO might result to stigma and hasty generalization to all gamers. This is where I agree and yes, it might result to that but here's the thing, alcohol is actually way more addicting than marijuana and alcohol resulted to more deaths than marijuana and yet alcohol is legal and we don't judge everyone who is drinking alcohol as alcoholics. In the same way, just because someone spent $3000 on a gaming PC doesn't mean that the person is a compulsive gamer so what seems to be the concern here by researchers? This is like one of those "body positive extremist social justice warriors" complaining against doctors and fitness trainers that what they're doing is "body shaming" and it leads to more harm than good or those people complaining to their doctors to stop them from telling their patients what they should and shouldn't eat because the doctor is shaming the patient. Basically, the researchers in this draft paper argue that "These can result in poorly thought out and ineffectual public policy efforts to restrict gaming time such as South Korea’s “shutdown” law (which blocked online playing for children between 12 AM and 6 AM). While such “solutions” may lead parents, clinicians and society to feel that something is being done to address the perceived problem of excessive gaming, in fact, this intervention has had a negligible positive effect and even some negative outcomes." So what do these researchers want them to do, keep their kids playing until 4 in the morning until they become homeless drop outs with deep vein thrombosis? Few more things, while I understand that this is a draft and it's not the final paper. They seem to offer no amendments or changes made to the WHO resolution to show that these people are really sincere. Why does it sound that these people think that someone diagnosed with gaming disorder think that authorities will come and start seizing their properties? But with all that said, even the WHO is a bit lacking in further studies especially blind studies the use imaging and other methods to further validate and come up with a personalized treatment protocol. So how about you? Do you agree with them or disagree? To all math majors and statisticians in the forum (ahem @Energycore ), I want to ask if this is one of the scenarios one can use Bayes' Theorem?

This is just a topic that I thought may benefit someone, or no-one, within this community. I've been debating starting a thread on the topic of mental health for a few months now, but I've been doubting its reception for various reasons. 1) Many people, including myself, are very cautious about speaking up about their own mental health out of fear of stigma; 2) It is not an easy topic to approach, and it would be reliant upon the engagement of the community. BUT, I have finally decided to start a thread. I feel very anonymous within this community, which is fantastic for me as at times, I like to speak without the fear of my comments being linked back to myself (never in a degrading, hateful way may I add!) If my experiences and/or comments can make even one person feel less alone, then I would feel tremendously happy with myself. I have struggled with depression and anxiety for a few years now, this was exacerbated by the arrival of my son in October 2016. I was diagnosed with post-natal depression and was informed that it would be wise of me to attend some form of talking therapy, i.e. CBT or counselling. Being the male that I am, I discarded all suggestions that I was going through a mental crisis and went on my not-so-merry way. I've often found it incredibly hard to open up to people, whether that's my parents; partner or friends - it's just something that I've always steered clear of doing. My mother often states that it'd be 'easier to extract blood from a stone' than get me to open up about my emotions. To me, I associate opening up about my emotions as a weakness, and that if I just avoid it altogether, it isn't legitimate. Has anyone else struggled throughout their life? What has been your saving grace, and what words of encouragement would you provide to others who feel like they're in the same boat?

Hi, I started playing The Witcher 3 recently and immediately realized that I was intimidated by the sheer size of the world and the amount of content in the game. Whereas the mere thought of GTA5's Los Santos and Watch Dogs 2's San Francisco made me want to play those games, Witcher 3's Continent did nothing of the sort. I know, objectively speaking, the Witcher 3 is as good as games get. It is worth all the praise being showered on it to this day. I just want to know if someone else was intimidated the way I was. PS: I would also like to mention that I'm under medication for clinical depression and anxiety. That may also be a factor in how I felt about the game.
