  1. Hi Guys I had some issues and googled them. The first article I stumbles upon told me to run memtest86+, so I did. Me, not being all too technical just downloaded it without further inspection. Now I am stuck with the screeen below. And I am wondering: How long will this approximately take? and Is this normal? For Info: I have DDR5 6000 6000mhz 2x16GB of RAM Please let me be guided by your knowledge. I also think I will do further posts because my pc has maaaany more issues. Thanks for your guys response.
  2. Hi, I have some G.Skill Ripjaws v 128GB ddr4 3200Mhz Cl16 memory 4 32GB sticks with a 5950x on a gigabyte aero g 570s motherboard. A single stick fails in memtest86. The failing stick fails no matter the slot and working sticks pass in those slots. I sent this back and the memory was replaced, sadly the replacement had a single stick that failed for a different reason. The place I purchased it from AusPCMarket has run mem test on this returned memory and found no errors, however they are testing on a slower CPU Ryzen 3 3300x "ROG STRIX X570-I GAMING". What I notice (see attachments below) we have some speed difference in caches and memory: mine (1 stick): L3 36.8GB/s, Mem 21.8GB/s mine (4 sticks) L3 43.5GB/s, Mem 40.5GB/s Theirs (2 sticks): L3 27GB/s, Mem 17.8GB/s (I didn't record speed for two sticks) This time I believe they did run the memory at 3200Mhz although I don't know what cas latency they used. I am wondering, is the Memtest they did reasonable in that the transfer speed is only 80% of what my machine can do with a single stick. Should I be pushing them to test such that they get similar memory bandwidth speeds, Perhaps witha better CPU or ensuring the case latencies are correct? Could it be my motherboard or CPU? How would I diagnose that without additional memory or another DDR4 motherboard. Thanks for your help, -Luke MemTest86-Report-20220113-095734.pdfMemTest86-Report-20220112-120850.pdf
  3. I am using memtest86 pro. There are a test or two, which if I remember correctly, could be skipped/ avoided because they take too much time and the result is not worth it. So which of the tests should I uncheck?
  4. So, my PC has been BSOD-ing recently and after running memtest, I found out that 2 out of my 4 memory modules are failing with a significant number of errors. I ran all modules on all slots and narrowed it down to those 2. Weirdly, while they are all the same make and model, the failing ones are from 2 different sets, bought a year appart. They are even different revisions. I have ran the first set for 2 or 3 years and the second set for a year now haven't had any problems before. For the last year I've been running the now failing modules in slots A2 and B2. Any ideas how 2 sticks from different sets started failing at the same time? Running the other working modules on A2 and B2 works fine btw. Could they have been damaged by something else?
  5. Hello there everybody, After years of holding back, I finally went ahead and bought myself a new computer (for my own birthday, yay, but....). Specifications: ASUS GeForce RTX 3070 Ti TUF OC - TUF-RTX3070TI-O8G-GAMING Intel Core i7-12700K CPU Kingston Fury Beast DDR5 5200MHz 32GB - KF552C40BBK2-32 CORSAIR iCUE H150i ELITE LCD CPU - CW-9060062-WW Cooler Master MasterCase H500P Mesh ARGB Mid Tower - MCM-H500P-MGNN-S11 Corsair RM850 850W PSU - CP-9020235-EU ASUS PRIME Z690-P - PRIME Z690-P (DDR5) - Updated BIOS to 1620 WD Black SN850 2TB M.2 SSD Running Windows 11 with Secure boot on. Problem is, it's freezing at random times. So - story goes... For the first week there were no issues, but then suddenly it started blinking twice with monitor, stream deck, keyboard, all RGB in the computer - you name it. It blinks twice, sound sounds like reconnecting, disappears at both blinks, then reappears. It started out with the keyboard disconnecting, and I would have to reconnect it each time, after which it would start working again. Completely sporadic when it would happen. The freezes and everything explained here will happen no matter if I'm gaming, watching LinusTechTips or just browsing. After tinkering with it, looking up USB errors on the z690 boards and testing various BIOS settings (which I've completely lost overview of at this point), it was okay for a few days. However, suddenly it started freezing up entirely, doing the same stunt of blinking twice (everything I just explained above), only this time it would freeze up the computer entirely, could only hold down the power button. The RGB lights inside the computer will reset its settings when this happens (to whatever it has when it boots, and not what I've chosen as profile in iCUE). So... I started some more in-depth testing, starting with Microsoft Memory Diagnostics tool, which first time said there was a memory issue. I tried another test again immediately, which said nothing was wrong. So... I went on to MemTest86+, which failed kind of on/off. First couple of tests had errors, as shown below.. IMG_3299.HEIC After that I started testing the RAM sticks one by one, slot 1,2,3,4 and when one of them failed in slot 4, I tried with the other stick, which didn't fail. I then went back to the first and tested again in slot 4, which then passed this time around. Each RAM test did only 1 pass at this point, granted. After the first stick had initially failed, but passed the re-test, I did a complete re-test of all again, and it didn't fail the second time again. I tested a bit in all the slots with both sticks, I there seemed to be no consistency whatsoever when it would fail and when it wouldn't. More passes than fails though. More like 20% fail, 80% pass. I then proceeded to put in both memory sticks again, back into A2, B2 slots after which it failed with the following: filtered-233DD1A0-7EB4-43C1-8648-625F57076DF3.MP4 I stopped the test after a while of it counting to 300 errors, restarted it and it didn't fail after 1 pass. I then tried slots A1 and B1, which didn't fail either. Testing the sticks again, one by one failed once again. All results so far were completely inconsistent. Realising there were some limitations to the free version of MemTest86+, I went with the good old open-source memtest86 software, which gave the same inconsistent results. Sometimes both MemTest86 softwares even would freeze after just 2 seconds... 15 seconds... a couple of minutes... IMG_3315.HEIC I got fails like it shows above, but also a pass test after almost 7 hours, and 8 passes running overnight, back in slots A2, B2 IMG_3309.HEIC The 8 passes came after searching around on the internet, I found that it was recommended to run the additional 4-pin CPU connector (that said optional in the manual) - I understand the limitations in power and figured that sounded like a plausible explanation. I then proceeded to benchmark the computer, graphics, Cinebench, but also with Prime95 with no hiccups. The computer then went for a week, hours each day, with no issues. However, tonight it happened again, it blinked twice, after which it was still working for a while, but at the same second I used Windows button + shift + S and took a screenshot, I heard the "camera shutter sound" and then the computer froze. In the beginning, I thought for a minute it could be software, so I have tried replacing some drivers and testing another keyboard and such, however - with MemTest86 failing on/off and even freezing during scans - sporadically, I figure it's something else? I have not overclocked anything at this point, I feel it's unstable enough as it is. Any help, pointers, anything I should check in BIOS, cabling on motherboard, known issues. I would love any insight or suggestions. I bought the components the 29th of July, so I do have the possibility to send back individual components and have them replaced, still, if they're faulty. However, I would like to be more sure about where the problem is, as I'm just not entirely sure with these RAM sticks when results are so inconsistent. I hope it makes sense, as it's a mess in my head and hard to untangle into text. Thanks in advance, Brian
  6. Hi guys, I’ve recently bought a used DDR3 Kingston’s RAM from eBay (HYPER X FURY HX318C10FRK2/16 (2X8 GB) DDR3-1866 CL10) for my old pc because my 8GB (2x4GB) RAM was bottlenecking. I’ve run a memtest at the clock speed and I’ve got no problems, but a note: “ram may be vulnerable to high frequency row hammer bit flips”. Is it a matter of concern? I can give back the RAM and buy another one, if this could be the better option. thanks for your advice!
  7. I have a 4x8Gb DDR4 memory kit config and I’m trying to check if there are problems with them since I seem to get memory_management stopcodes on Windows 10 5-10 mins after boot up. It was working without problems for a while with a single 8Gb Hynix stick for the past fews months until this recent memory upgrade. Now, I seem to have fixed the problem by bumping the SOC offset on BIOS. I mean it no longer crashes as far as it goes when I’m using it and after leaving it on idle for half a day. But I want to make sure at least that it won’t let me down, so I’m running Memtest86 for about 7 hours now with all sticks in place and I am currently about to finish pass 4 without errors. Do you think four passes with no errors would be ok? I still plan to run another stress test after Memtest86 once I get to boot up Windows. Probably blender or prime95. Or both. What do you think? I kinda doubt wasting another 7-8 hours of Memtest86 will help me.
  8. It's been around 6 months since I built this custom PC , had no issues in the past but slowly the performance started to get worse and worse . - I started Chkdsk , no issues found . I ran SFC/Scannow , showed hundreds of corrupted file that they couldn't fix . - Clean installed a new Window 10 pro and issues started popping up such as BSOD (More than 5 different BSOD , can't remember them all) - Tried clean installing them again and came up with more issues making it impossible to load windows but ended up fixing them . - Ran Memtest86 , more than 60k+ error came up http://imgur.com/a/DpbZp - Ran Windows as per usual , halfway through the game BSOD appears (Memory Management , BCMWL63A , etcetc) Wanted to RMA my RAM to see if that's the issue but the shipping cost $80 , not sure if there's any other workaround
  9. Introduction I have recently run into some difficulties with my year and a half old system (specs below). It started as some odd issues with Windows the search function where it would close after a few seconds of being open. I tried the suggestions online but got nowhere so I refreshed my machine. This actually caused more problems, mainly with the graphics, so I completely reinstalled windows drivers etc. Now all of those issues are gone but now I am getting various bluescreens all of which appear to be tied to memory and I am getting random program crashes for various programs. However, the odd part of this, and the reason I haven't just gone out and replaced my memory, is that Memtest86+ has not picked up any issues with my RAM with over a dozen passes. Because of this, I am somewhat concerned that the issue is actually some alternate hardware issue (say the motherboard) and I am looking for some guidance on how I should go about moving forward. The System Operating System: Windows 10 Motherboard: MSI x99s SLI Plus CPU: i7-5820k Memory: G.Skill DDR4 3000 8GBx2 GPU: MSI 980ti HDD: WD Black 2TB SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2 The BSODs The BSODs I have been getting are varied but all appear to be memory related. I have attached the minidump files below. These are never BSOD loops and only occur about once every 2 days but that's regular enough to cause serious concern obviously. Windows Memory Diagnostic Unlike Memtest86, WMD has returned that there are hardware issues both times I have run it. However, I do not know how to read the information so any assistance in that regard would be appreciated: Log Name: System Source: Microsoft-Windows-MemoryDiagnostics-Results Date: 9/30/2017 16:24:13 Event ID: 1102 Task Category: None Level: Error Keywords: User: SYSTEM Computer: DESKTOP-1CFA8QE Description: The Windows Memory Diagnostic tested the computer's memory and detected hardware errors. 10. Memtest - it only recognises half the ram, when there's 16 installed it shows 8, but shows no errors However, when the RAM is installed one by one it recognises them all properly with no errors. BIOS/UEFI - always shows the full amount installed Windows - shows 16gb but only 8gb as usable and the rest hardware reserved. Does anyone know any reason for this and/or know which is right? Or how to stop half RAM being reserved?
  11. Hello, i ve tried to change timings on my ram (Rated 3200 @1.35V 16-18-18-36) from rated ones to C14 14-14-14-34 (freq 2933 with both), system and everything feels stable and bit faster than before, but when i run memtest64, it shows no errors, tried for 20 cycles and 10 minutes but when it stops the test or i stop it manually, it goes into BSOD with error "attempted write to readonly memory". Should i keep the timings or not? Thanks.
  12. It's been around 2 years since I built my PC. I was getting some weird memory exception errors on Windows 10. Windows would not shut down properly and I would get errors when running some programs and when shutting down my PC. Windows eventually failed to start, as a result of maybe faulty RAM or an update. I am now running Windows 10 on an SSD. I have not really used Windows since. Though I just turned the PC on and I think I got the same error again. I want to stress test my RAM fully and put it to the test. I do NOT want to stress test my CPU as it's on the stock cooler and I might have applied the paste incorrectly. My temps go up to 70, 80 and at times 90. Degrees Celsius. So yeah I don't want to stress test my CPU. Some people on forums recommend Prime 95 which tests both of them. Why? How can you stress test your RAM while running Windows? I'm thinking Memtest86 or Memtest86+ are sufficient; which one's more suitable for my hardware? And how many hours should I run it for? I can run it overnight and don't mind running it for longer if necessary. My build: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/MGbkhM Note: I have the stock cooler installed
  13. Nikolai at https://superuser.com/questions/547822/how-many-passes-are-enough-with-memtest#550641 said that memtest stresses the CPU. Which has me worried here. Does Memtest stress test your CPU? I have a decent cooler but I have not installed it yet. I currently have the stock cooler and I am unsure if the paste was applied correctly. You never truly know until you take it off.
  14. I've been experiencing some frequent blue screens lately, and games crashing constantly, so I ran a memtest, to see if its a memory issue, and I got 33 errors (I've included some images below.) I'm assuming this is pretty bad, therefore I would like to know if I need to replace my memory or if its an issue with something else? 15. Hello, guys! My build: MoBo: Asus ROG Maximus Hero VIII CPU: i7 6700k RAM: 2 sets of "Corsair Vengeance LPX CMK16GX4M2A2133C13(2x8 GB in each set)" (so 4x 8GB ram sticks, 32 GB total) GPU: Gigabyte AORUS Xtreme 1080 Ti CPU Cooler: Corsair H110i Extreme 280" PSU: Corsair HX850i platinum Side-note: Out of the 4 RAM sticks I have, one was broken long ago and I never RMAd it, so my PC was running with 3 RAMs x8 GB (24 GB of ram) for 3 years, without any problems at all. Had those sticks placed in DIMM A2 + B2(as recommended for 2 sticks) + A1. I will say it again, I HAD NEVER HAD PROBLEMS WITH THIS setup for more than 2-3 years. 24gb of ram STRAIGHT TO MY PROBLEM NOW: I decided to clean up my PC and reapply thermal pastes recently. Cleaned the PC, reapplied paste, put everything back and turned it on. Everything was fine for 10-15 minutes, then I got "Blue Screen of Death". Restarted the PC and BSOD happened again after 5 minutes. It then happened another 2-3 times until I decided to check my RAMs. Downloaded Memtest86, turned it on and selected a minimum of 8 passes. During the first pass, I got 800+ CPU errors. So I thought that I, somehow, fucked something(maybe the socket pins, or tightening the screws too much) up when placing the CPU back. I removed everything and reassembled again. Put only 1 RAM this time in slot B1, PC started on first try and seemed to work fine. Turned off, checked the other 2 rams in the same slot, worked like charm, so rams had no problems. Then I started moving 1 RAM to different slots. B1 and B2 worked splendidly, while A1 and A2 wouldn't POST at all, the screen was remaining black forever. When the RAM was in A1 DIMM, I would get the 49 debug code right after starting the PC, then after some debug code cycling, it would stop at 01 code, then switch to 03 right after that and in the end a cycle of 01/03 debug codes would start. When the RAM was in A2 DIMM, I would get the CC debug code right after starting the PC, then after some debug code cycling, it would stop at 55 code. After that, I tried placing 2 RAMs together. ALL 3 RAMS were working when placed in different combinations in slot B1 and B2 simultaneously. When trying B1 + A1/A2 or B2 + A1/A2, it wouldn't post again. So, in the end, I decided to remove the CPU again and check if there were any bent pins in the CPU socket, cleaned everything AGAIN, put back the CPU cooler, placed it right in the center, hand-tightened 2 diagonally-placed screws first, so that the pressure was even on both sides. I blew the dust out of everything possible, with compressed air, even from the back side of the MoBo! Right now my PC is running Memtest86 for 8 passes, with ram placed in B1 slot. It's already the 4th pass and 0 errors. Still, I can't place any RAM in A1 and A2 slots to get back to my 24gb setup. SUMMARY of ALL the things I have tried: -Clearing Cmos. -Flashing BIOS again. -Under-tightening CPU cooler screws to the point that I almost could move it freely. -Checking all of 3 RAM sticks individually and in groups, in every slot, with every combination. -Removing all the peripherals(GPU, keyboard, mouse, etc..) except for RAMs -Changing all the cables. -Changing some of my BIOS settings(like turning on XMP, etc...) -Running 1 ram with different BIOS settings(to check if I fucked the settings up or not) -Running 3 rams with the default BIOS settings, etc... Right now I don't even know what to think of, I have tried every possible solution on the net and nothing seems to work, whenever A1 and A2 slots are in play, system doesn't POST, hanging at black screen. The system just doesn't work like it did for 2-3 years. Nothing seems to malfunction aside from these slots. If you think that my mobo is at fault now... How could it malfunction out of blue? There were no power outages in my home or anything alike. I'm out of ideas right now, please help me, someone! Sorry for this, somewhat messy, text and bad English, it's my 4th language
  16. Hello everybody ! Since a few days I noticed some strange behaviours on my desktop (Mouse freez, FPS drops in game that I don't have normaly...). So I decided to check everything. I performed a MEMTEST86 to see if my ram was working properly, I run the test twice. After those tests, 3 errors came out (2 on the first run, and 1 on the second run). The issue is, I didn't found some really information about those results, so if someone could give me some little help, it would be awesome ! / * / Config / * / Proco: Intel Core i5-4460 3.4GHz Ram: 2x4GB G.Skills Ripjaws X (ref: GSKILL-F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL) Graphic Card: GTX 1060 OC KFA2 Motherboard: MSI H97M-E35 Thanks in advance lads
  17. I’m having issues with some DDR3 ram being added into a system with identical memory. One new stick spits out errors shown in the image, BSOD immediately when only it is in, or BSOD a few minutes after startup with all or two or three sticks in. Any ideas on a possible fix? (Issues occurs no matter the settings (stock or not) on the ram or cpu) issue appears to be the single module. Every address is exactly correct minus an A being changed to an 8 in the expected to actual results. ((Ram is Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB (8gb sticks) 2400 MHz PC3-19200 CMY16GX3M2A2400C11R, 2 kits of this ram)
  18. Hello, I'm having issues with my PC blue screening, freezing, games crashing, and sometimes even red screening. I ran MemTest64 and it found a few errors then blue screened with the error code MEMORY_MANAGMENT. I changed some XMP settings and ran MemTest64 again, which found no errors. A few days later I got another crash, ran MemTest64, and it found errors again. Changed some XMP settings, MemTest64 found no errors until next crash. My RAM has always been set to the recommended settings, sometimes maybe a bit lower. My BSOD error codes vary alot. After MemTest finds an error or two, my PC suddenly blue screens with the error code MEMORY_MANAGMENT. I ran WhoCrashed and it said This was probably caused by the following module: ntdll.sys (ntdll!NtTerminateThread+0x14) Bugcheck code: 0x1A (0x41790, 0xFFFF908007E8B530, 0x20, 0x21) Error: MEMORY_MANAGEMENT. It's also worth mentioning that I mainly get the crashes when the PC is under some sort of load. I've run GPU and CPU benchmarks and haven't had any crashing issues. Here's my PCPartPicker list. I'm not really sure what to do, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! UPDATE I was playing Getting Over It With Bennet Foddy, and all of a sudden I heard the sound that Windows 10 makes when you disconnect something from the I/O, then I heard the reconnect sound. The game froze for a second, then minimized. I also got a crash report from the same game which reads: Getting Over It [version: Unity 2017.4.9f1 (6d84dfc57ccf)] UnityPlayer.dll caused an Access Violation (0xc0000005) in module UnityPlayer.dll at 0023:0fdae6dd. 19. I built a new PC this year in July during the Ryzen 3000 Launch. I got a 3900x Ryzen CPU, a ASUS Hero Crosshair VIII (WI-FI) motherboard, Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 32GB (4x8GB) RAM, 1070 GPU & a ASUS THOR PSU 850W. I have no overclocks. I started getting BSODs after the first week I got the PC regarding memory corruption, so I went back to Microcenter and they swapped my RAM. Thought my issue was over. Got more BSODs after about a month in. I downloaded Memtest 86+ and ran it stick by stick, showing me I had 1 bad stick. So I was going to RMA it. I kept 3 sticks in, PC kept BSOD still. So I ran the Memtest again on each stick, in different slots. Found that my slot 3 was causing sticks to fail repeatedly. Got a 3800x for testing that its not CPU mem controller. Still shows failing sticks. Won't post at all with Dual Channel with stick in slot 1 and 3. Got a new motherboard (ASUS HERO CROSSHAIR VIII non-wifi), put in my 3900x. Slot 3 still failing on the same set of RAM. Try different stick. Still failing on slot 3. Sometimes won't post. Put in the 3800x as well, same results. So what gives? 2 motherboards, 2 CPUS and we're still at a failing state. For some reason, slot 3 is the only one failing. So what is my problem here? Only thing I haven't tried yet is getting ANOTHER set of sticks. I even borrrowed my friends 3900x to test a 3rd CPU and I still have the same set of issues. Id say memtest is lying to me about the results, but my system is definitely not stable. Can it be my power supply somehow, or do I have a different problem here? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. BIOS is updated on the current (non-wifi) motherboard & the wifi motherboard. I'm running on 1201 BIOS. Chipset has been updated. Temps are good on the system, not overheating.
  20. I've been running a memtest on my new freenas server for a good 18 hours and have completed a pass. I looked into this a bit on google and found conflicting ideas about how long to run a test. Is this long enough of a test to conclude that the memory is "probably" good? I haven't had problems with it but I pulled it from my old server and want to be sure before I put actual data on it.
  21. Hello, Could anyone pleased enlighten me with a more specific information regarding this? Is this a warning or an actual error? Attached are pictures with model of ram and the warning. Will this cause any issues? RAM is running with XMP setting at the specified specs Regards, Flaviu
  22. - I want to stress test my 8GB RAM on my Laptop. - I also want to stress test the RAM on my Desktop - I will be adding 16GB RAM on top of my 8GB - I want to see if the result 24GB will not cause problems. Both PC's have DDR3 memory and are 64 bit. Is there any case for using Memtest86+ in addition to stress testing with Memtest86? Are there any pros to using Memtest86+? I will definitely be stress testing with Memtest86 anyways
  23. Is there a name for a motherboard with two couples of unequally sizes RAM sticks? My Desktops motherboard has 4 RAM sticks and 4 RAM slots. 2 of those are 8GB and 2 of those are 4GB, making 24GB in total. All RAM sticks were purchased in retails sets/packets of two. All are by the same brand and are the same model, with the same speeds. Just sized differently. Extra issue: Memtest86 returns the note: "RAM may be vulnerable to high frequency row hammer bit flips." It doesn't flag it as an error. Just a note. Don't understand the significance of this. Memtest is currently at pass 14/20
  24. Hey Guys, So I built my new PC yesterday but I'm encountering complete freezes and BSOD with the error "Whea Uncorrectable Error". Sometimes I'll have no freezes for a while and other times it will freeze every a few minutes after a boot. I let the pc run overnight and no crashes, I ran CPU-Z benchmark, ran a game benchmark on my GPU and used windows memory diagnosis with no issues. I've also run Memtest86 overnight with no errors. Could I have built it incorrectly or is it a failing hardware piece? Minidumps: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1lsITBUXC02dl-lF5uC9r0...
