Saw an add for these and thought I'd check it out. Very interesting I thought. Looks like just an additional SKU and manufacturer but thought I'd ask the forums thoughts. Could also make an interesting video on the channel checking these out. On amazon as well and supposedly are "medical grade" whatever that means. https://monitors.com/collections/graphic-cards https://www.amazon.com/Barco-MXRT-7600-Quad-Graphic-K9306044/dp/B075FYSFHW

Hello everyone I am a doctor in India. I am looking for a video capture solution which is affordable and upgradable. My current setup has an output of 1920x1080 at 60 fps which I wish to record at the best possible resolution. No audio capture is needed. Output is in form of s video and dvi and HDMI ports. The usual capture time required is about 2 to 2.5 hours. I would like to have a recording setup that has easy export method onto a portable hard drive which I can later plug into a pc and edit as needed. Also a long term storage solution for the final output product.

Hi there! I was looking for a laptop/ultrabook/tablet (ideally windows, but it could be android). I'm about to start my medical residency, so I'd like to hear some suggestions for a light use (document editing, ppt presentations, MS Excel and statistical analysis software(SPSS), media consumption, READING A LOT) The characteristics I need are the following: MUST: -Long battery life (we work 36 hours shifts) -Comfortable for reading -Light weight (easy to carry) -Sturdy/good construction (or at least that it could last years) -At least 2 USB ports + video -Cost: ~$500 USD OPTIONAL - Micro SD slot -USB type C port -Good keyboard I don't mind carrying with me a power bank. Most of my data can be stored in USB, so a 128GB internal storage is OK to me (maybe 64GB + MicroSD). Sorry for my English (I'm not a native speaker) Thank U!!!

Just wondering if anyone else has shoulder issues with their mouse shoulder? I've been dealing with some neck/shoulder/back tighness. Nothing crippling but definitely there. One thing that I've had for years is that my right shoulder is definitely lower than my left. I can definitely see it in the mirror. I've asked my doctor about it and we did xrays, nothing is out of place. I've been to chiropractors and that sort of helps for a while. I'm trying to train myself to use the mouse with the left hand, but it's pretty slow going. Anyway, while watching the WAN show I noticed that both Luke & James have a dropped shoulder (see picture). Here's my question: has anyone done anything to help fix this? Is there a specific medical term that I use to get some better diagnoses?

Hi guys, I believe we have a few soldiers here, and if not that, people who know the answers to my questions. I will be brief, or try to be I mean: Question 1) What are the requirements to join the army as a female with a GED (no college credits)? Like what do I need to bring or have beyond the GED, ID and birth certificate? Question 2) What health issues will get you rejected beyond the most obvious? Will having a disorder like dyslexia get you rejected? Question 3) What is MOS, MEPS, ASVAB, AFQT, and TAPAS? What is a tier II applicant? Question 4) what should be some things I should ask the recruiter? What are some things I should read to help me learn more? Question 5) people say to know what you want out of the military; what does this mean exactly? Question 6) what should I expect at the physical examination? To do and or provide for them? Will being 4’11 be an automatic disqualification? *more questions may arise with answers. I am seriously considering joining the military for various reasons. I am very sick of staying in one place. I want to see other countries, I want to help people, I want to go to college to make something out of myself (I want to be a qualified Linguist!) and I want to serve my country like my father, grandfathers, brothers and uncles have. I have been watching a lot of Army videos and it has been increasing my desire to join with each video, especially when I saw the video on Linguists and their roles in the military. If anyone with far more knowledge of this can help me out, I would appreciate it. Thanks! *the reason I ask here and not a recruitment office is because I don't live anywhere close to one. The closest one is like four hours away and I think knowing before I go may improve my chances! mod edit, alpenwasser Guys, this thread is about OP's question, not about whether or not the US military is a global murder racket, please keep things on point. Thanks.

Source: http://9to5mac.com/2015/03/12/researchkit-usage/ Stanford is one of five academic centers that have developed apps that use the iPhone’s built-in accelerometers, gyroscopes and GPS to provide data which assists in medical research. There are, say researchers, both pros & cons to recruiting study participants through ResearchKit … The big advantage is that researchers no longer have to rely on what study participants claim about things like the amount of exercise they take: the iPhone reports the actual data. But there are also downsides. For example, iPhone users may not be representative of the U.S. population as a whole. Participants may also accidentally select options when answering questions through the app, or have their responses biased by being presented with multiple-choice responses rather than a human being asking open-ended questions. These difficulties aside, the potential seems huge. Todd Sherer, CEO of the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, says that a traditional study with 800 participants over five years cost around $60M. The Parkinson’s app had 5,589 participants by Tuesday morning. If you want to know more about how ResearchKit works, and how you can help future medical studies, check out our hands-on guide. And here's a video from Apple about research kit: This is great! I feel that Apple made a huge contribution to medical field. Their one minor con can be overcomed since this is open source. Let's take a moment and appreciate them for what they had done.

Hi everyone, I know this is a computer and tech forum, but it doesn't hurt to ask, right? A week and a half ago I went out for a run and scrapped my left knee pretty badly. I washed it with soap and water, disinfected it with alchohol, and applied neosporin and a bandaid several times since. Today though after taking a shower, the center of the wound seems to be fresh. I assume the hot water softened up the laye of skin and washed it away. It looks fresh, with some visible white dots. The outside is still scabbed though. Anyone's thoughts on this? Any help is much appreciated! Here's a link for those curious as to how my knee looks http://imgur.com/Z1zJ4rM

This thread / topic is literally as the title suggests; Experience and opinions on LASIK surgery. I myself have been a long time wearer of Glasses and have been interested / looked up LASIK and many forums around it, but the forum is smart and I am curious on the general opinion or even personal experiences or even similar experiences with like family and all. So, yeah.

New Hand held DNA Analyzer Detects Disease within Minutes..
Tech_Dreamer posted a topic in Tech News
QuantumMDx a medical equipment manufacture company has come up with a prototype of a rather interesting device, the device is still in prototype but will be released earlier than expected*, a working model of the device was announced by the company earlier this week , the device is playfully nick named Q-POC handheld laboratory, Currently it can recognize diseases such as STD , Ebola, HIV , Malaria , The device requires blood sample to work, only one drop of blood is required for the analysis, the device currently takes about 15-20 minutes time to accurately scan the DNA for known diseases, the device has a touch screen & device itself cost close to 1000+$ , the detection time is pretty good compared to a fully fledged laboratory with similar tech, the cartridge that requires in order to detect the thread per use is about 100+$ Data can be exchanged & studied by scientists everywhere, Pretty Cool huh? Post your thoughts & comments down below...& it'd be cool o see you leave a like if you liked this post..- 17 replies

Hi to all of the Linus Tech Tips community, I'm a veterinary radiologist (yup those exist ) looking to build a workstation at home so I eventually get to spend more time at home than at the hospital. I read a thread on a similar topic on this website but it's dated 2015 so I thought it could use an update. Having spent most of my life studying and not enough time gaming or building computer (last gaming and computer building experience dates to late 1990's) I thought it would be smart to get your opinion. Below is the information I think you'll want to know to make your suggestion better oriented and not to waste your precious time: Location: Montreal so CA$ Budget: 2500-3000 Canadian$ for the machine itself (I'll have a separate budget for some more monitors and already have most of the peripherals I need). Aim of the machine: Reading medical imaging studies ranging from small sized studies such as radiographs to large CT datasets going up to 5 000 images and as large as 6GB all in DICOM format. These will be downloaded either through a commercial web storage website or web based PACS server and be read on a DICOM viewer such as RADIANT, ORS Visual or e-film. 3D rendering of the datasets will be occasional however I use other type of rendering such as Maximal or Minimal intensity projection where essentially the information of multiple voxels are presented on a single image and weighted based on their attenuation (point is that it's more labour intensive than viewing the original image slices but less than moving around a 3D rendering). Image editing using Snagit or Photoshop. Running a voice recognition software (Dragon medical practice or Dragon Naturally Speaking Pro). I currently have a Surface Pro 4 only dedicated to that purpose that I use at the hospital and at home but may want to run it off my work station at some point. Rare basic video editing. Rare basic FPS gaming like Hitman maybe (I guess that title makes it obvious that it's been a while I haven't gamed). Monitors requirements: Goal is 4 displays. I currently have a Dell U2410 and a Barco 3MP medical display (Dual-DVI already have a mini DP adaptor on it but can get whatever needed). I want to add two more monitor which will either be two high luminescence 4K monitors or 2 other 3MP medical grade monitors. Peripherals and OS: I have a Windows 10 PRO copy on a USB stick in the mail currently which I bought for this rig. I already have a wired USB flywheel mouse, USB keyboard, USB 3D controller, USB image navigator (ShuttlePRO V2, couldn't live without this beauty). I usually always have one or 2 USB 3.0 external HD to store cool cases. I'd want at least 1TB SSD storage and could use some more storage on a few optical drives (I am not responsible for storing patient data so I don't need crazy RAID config but only like to keep cases library for when I need to make presentations or research projects). I love listening to classical, Jazz, electro or dubstep while working and while I have a turntable setup I sometimes like to just use my computer but I'd like to have a decent DAC in my build. Why upgrading: Well you'll laugh at me but while at work I have good workstations I am still running off a mid 2009 Macbook pro at home and even-though I upgraded some internals it's absolutely not cutting it but immediately post-residency financials just couldn't enable me to build a good rig. While I love mac OS the ridiculous specs of their current lines for the pricetag is silly and I am ready to have a windows based machine at home just like I have at work. One last thing that may help: I work at two different hospitals where both my workstations run 2 3MP medical displays and 1 nice dell navigation monitor. One station has a Xeon CPU and a Quadro K1200 while the other has an i5-6500 CPU and a Barco MXRT 5500 GPU both work great for my radiology needs but I haven'd done much image or video editing and obviously never gamed on them). I have been trying to decide between Xeon and i7 CPUs and gaming GPUs like a GTX 1080 Ti vs. a workstation type card like the Quadro series. My machine won't be on 24/7 and I can survive a crash once in a while. It is important that the processed data yielding the images on my monitors is properly represented and but I'm not sure having features like ECC is absolutely needed for my purposes; as far as I know the 3D rendering is the most intense application I'll be doing (among my radiology uses) but I don't base my diagnoses off 3D images (all on the axials and MPRs) so if a few error in data interpolation occur I don't think it's the end of the world. I'm stating this just because while I think I understand the basics of ECC I wanted to validate with you guys that I don't need it... Ain't processing crazy math stats and won't be designing aircraft parts... Oh and I know GPUs are expensive these days but I can't wait till prices drop. Thank you so much in advance to those who will make suggestions I sincerely appreciate your input and suggestions. I can tell you that this will not only be useful to me but I have dozens of friends also looking to build a home based station that will benefit from this post. Have a wonderful day! Pascal
