  1. Hi! I have a TV I can stream to using chromecast or VLC, but my issue is that the TV is in another room, and I can't control the media player from there. Other than using a laptop to remotely control the computer itself, does anyone have any suggestions on how to do that? Thanks
  2. Let's talk reframing, us against the Community and disappearing CEOs. Looking at the first wave of responses it is clear that LMG faces challenges conveying a clear, coherent message. Both in an ad-hoc and (surprisingly) scripted forms. We can all agree that the initial Linus post was horrendous (as admitted by LMG itself) and the video released later presented a fragmented, contradicting, buffet of statements. A literal bunch of talking "heads" is a big no-no, so for the next video, it is very clear that LMG has spent time consulting with (or even commissioning) someone with a crysis management background. In this light, the post hiatus video is crysis response 101. A textbook example. The proposition: when a proof of an immediate remedy is unattainable, the next best thing to offer to the public is a promise of a process. In some cases it is even the first choice. A process buys time to the company. It reframes the conversation and breaks down future responses into fragmented conversation that each can be better managed. And ooh boy did we get a "process". Here is a promise of a process, and a diagram of one, and a video of a process being undertaken, and graphs and numbers and timelines and KPIs. LMG is busy busy busy. This is not a judgmental statement but rather a factual one. Reframing the conversation: the next part of the message presents a new entity called "the Community". There was never a GamersNexus or a Madison or mislead viewers. The Community acted and LMG now reacts. No need to go into specific details, no need to argue points. This is in stark contrast to before the alleged consultation, where LMG has refered to Madison by name. This is a very popular trick used by red handed politicians and corporates alike. A Community is an abstract figure. It has no face. It has both bad and good actors, and it allows us to play on the "it's us against them" notion. We can easily play the victim of the Community without the need to actually argue points with anyone specific. Again - no judgement here. Believe me. Up until this point LMG has followed the brief diligently. So much so that when LMG diviates, it all breaks at the seams. Let's look at two eye-pokers. "We are all here for you" is clearly the core of the message. Unifying, generic, trust inducing. But leading up to it by promising employee churn and hinting of layoffs? Really? This LMG doing LMG again. And then there is the disappearing leader. Has LMG wanted to get Mr. Tong in front of a green screen, it would have. The technology is available wherever in the world he currently is. Hiding Tarren is a deliberate decision. This is not because he is "off site". What is your take on the communication relations lessons to be learnt here? (Please forgive my time if it comes out nit a chill one. English is nit my first language and I'm typing this while in transit)
  3. I have an Acer Aspire One 722-C6Ckk notebook running an AMD C60 cpu with 2GB DDR3 Memory. I want to turn it into a home NAS server. But, since this is an x86 architecture cpu, I don't know which NAS OS can run on it. I've only ever use Windows, so i have no idea how to use FreeBSD or Linux based OS. Though I've checked the requirements for TrueNAS CORE and SCALE, they all need a 64 bit cpu and at least 8GB RAM. I don't have any particular OS in mind that I want to run. Anything that can run on my notebook as a server OS is ok with me. I'm not ever sure that if it is even possible to turn my notebook into a NAS! The hardware is more than 10 years old now. Now, if it is possible, which OS can I use to turn this old notebook into a NAS? Also, if I'm able to turn my notebook into a NAS, will Jellybean run on a 32 bit cpu? Or will I have to run PLEX? Thanks.
  4. Hi there. I seem to have come across a fairly common problem, but there is not a lot of info about it online and I couldn't fix it. Apparently there is a problem with the "media provider module" in certain models of android phones that cause the "media storage" app to keep growing and growing with no way to delete that data until it eventually "takes over" the phone (sorry for any errors, I don't know a lot about this). I have tried many things, used many storage manager apps, but nothing worked. Can anyone help?
  5. I have Noise Earbuds, they don't have any software or app for them. The right earbud is messing with the volume and google assistant picking and ending calls... I never use these touch controls, is there a way to disable them? I have an Android phone and Windows 11 Laptop.
  6. I need to be able to work on the same project but sometimes I like to work away from home using my laptop. How can I set it up so that I can do that? I've tried one method so far but the guy didn't do a great job of explaining it so I don't know if I did it wrong. My first attempt was downloading the same media files on both computers and exporting the project from the computer I started the project on as a drp file and sending it to my other computer but to no avail. Could someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
  7. I have a couple of older boxes that I want to put to use (and save money). One would be an "ingest station" for assorted audio and video (copying from old tape media to digital, etc.) and one would be for backup of my main machine. The media box has a 990FX mobo, FX-8350, and the appropriate media cards. It'll run Win7 for conversion card compatibility. The planned backup box is older and has an Athlon 64 X2 CPU. I have an assortment of new (or light used) SATA SSD's (250GB & 500GB), a few good 2TB HDD's and a brand new 8TB Iron Wolf drive for the backup. My main PC runs Iron Wolf pros in RAID for data drives, so the separate backup is truly Plan B (or even Plan C). I'm wondering if I should make one machine or two. The advantage would be that the backup machine could run non-Windows, but then I'd have one more machine taking up space. I only want to repurpose old parts. If I didn't, I'd just buy a Synology NAS for the backup and call it good. I'd likely run the ingest/conversion during the day and backup at night, so there wouldn't be a usage conflict if it was one machine.
  8. I am trying to replicate a concept idea for my IT internal exam. I have always wanted to run a server on my local pc throughout my home network only. What would happen is that I would upload files on the server through my computer, such as images or videos, and when I connect my phone or another computer to my internet, it automatically connects to the server and downloads all that has been uploaded onto that folder from the server preferably without human interference. What do I need? I was suggested the WAMP application by my teacher and am currently learning SQL to get to use it but that's only one problem. It's quite advanced and at this point I really need some guidance. Are there more suitable applications for this? Is there a more efficient way for me to run this without learning php (which I am 99% sure would need if I use WAMP)?
  9. Summary After threats of Google seeking to prevent search operations in Australia, and largely backing down after signing agreements with Australian Media Business, Facebook has decided to suspend the posting and sharing of News Articles and Information from the Pages of Australian Media and other sources. ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation), Nine and Fairfax, News Corp and others have had their posts removed from the platform. Other pages such as Australian Bureau of Meteorology (weather provider), Comedy News shows and satirical news pages have also been affected. Questions remain for Emergency Services Providers. Communications between the Government and Facebook are ongoing... Quotes My thoughts They are a private company, and can choose to play how they like to. There is a question about media literacy and people's lack of finding alternative sources. Maybe it's just convenient. The are also questions whether this code was mostly put in due to the current conservative government having an ear-shot of larger, right leaning media companies (i.e.: News Corp), whom own Sky News Australia and a majority of Australia's Tabloid Newspapers. Many of the news providers use post taken from Facebook's platform to whip up spin and hysteria in major news cycles, and people either buy it, or it further disillusions them from the content. Just look elsewhere.... Why give in to Daddy Murdoch or Facebook? They both don't care about what they host on their platforms. Sources https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-02-18/facebook-to-restrict-sharing-or-viewing-news-in-australia/13166208 https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-02-18/facebook-credibility-brought-into-question/13166318
  10. I want to know if it is possible to have a single server/computer that can host multiple "clients" (not sure if that is the correct terminology). Each "client" will be hard wired (HDMI, USB, etc.) to the server, and have their own Windows 10 virtual machine, so each TV could be controlled independently with a mouse and keyboard. It would also be nice if all of the VMs could access the same media database. The space is relatively small, I am not worried about the distance the HDMI, USB would have to travel. Currently, each TV has its own computer. While not necessarily an issue, I would like to have a more centralized server that I can also use game servers and home automation servers. I have concerns about the following items: -can the USB inputs be handled separately by each VM, even though they are plugged into the same machine? -can I use a single graphics card for multiple VMs? -Audio? if I want 5.1 surround will I need an audio card for each VM that requires it? I have attached a picture and the PPT that shows the diagram of what I want to do. Presentation1.pptx
  11. I really don't like how volume keys are set to work in windows, stepping by 2%, hold delay is too long, and especially that 'volume acceleration' feature that increases the stepping with time. I keep looking online to find a method or program that will allow me to change the properties of the volume keys but I can't find anything, does anyone else know anything that could help?
  12. I've tried windows support and nothing has helped so I thought id try here for help, which I have never done before. I'm trying to upgrade my system boot drive to an M.2, which I have properly installed. I'm trying to install windows 10 home from a boot media I made off of windows site, but its not working and every time it hits the restart portion of the download, it just resets. Has anyone else had this issue? any ideas? Specs: 1660 Super b350m bazooka - bios verson 7A38v1J ryzen 5 3600 crucial 500gb m.2
  13. Hello hello, As I said in the title, I'm setting up a plex media server for the first time. Installation went well and I can access my files no problem. The software does a great job of filling posters and metadata and all that stuff for both a library of movies and one for TV shows. I'm using it from my Mac pro only to use on my TV, both connected to the router and i don't plan to stream through the internet. I want to make another library (not for pron) where I use the Tv series library setting so I can divide content I have into Artist(as show), Season(as genre/topic) and episode(as specific video). I tried using the 'Other videos' setting but I really didn't like the UI for it since I couldn't find a way to set thumbnails for folders and such and it just wasn't well catalogued. I've been trying to use the 'Plex series scanner' and the 'Personal media shows' agent. So my issue is that I'm trying to change the name of the Seasons to something else, (e.g., change 'season 1' for 'hugs'), as well as change the name of episodes for something else (e.g.. change 'episode 1' to 'I love hugging my bf'). The name of the show is pretty straight forward since its just the name of the folder it's in but I can't for the life of me manage to change the seasons and episodes so it shows titles instead of just 'season 1' and such. Is there a way to integrate these titles into the file structure? or maybe into the filenames themselves? Or is there another setting I'm missing where i could achieve this? Please, any help or tips would be appreciated. Thanks guys!! <edited to include info and spelling
  14. Budget (including currency): 1000$ or 75000 INR Country: India Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Multimedia server, Retero game emulator and Valorant. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): First pc So Here is my list of parts I chose for my first pc build i am a little tight on budget and in my country parts are very expensive as compared to that in USA or Canada. I wanted suggestions on where i can cut corners and where i can spend a little extra. i am planning on using the stock coller with ryzen cpu and the igpu due to the gpu shortage and plan on adding a rtx 360 down the road, i already have a mouse and keyboard but do not have a monitor so add that to the price too. also i think there is a issue with b550 motherboard where you have to update bios to support ryzen 5600g, as mentioned this is my first build so i dont know how to do that so help me with that too PS: Sorry for bad English I am lazy and it i not my first language
  15. Current smart tv isn't very smart since it was based on vewd OS, basically it's mostly used for YouTube now, and the advertisements are getting more and more annoying. Raspberry Pi 3B+ with just 1 GB of RAM is still able to run minimal KODI. YouTube add-on from within KODI has no ads, but has problems of it's own, will not go in details. I don't know if I can really blame it for slowdowns when everything we watch is online content that relies on servers and my own router. Android does offer more options, but how much RAM would one need for it to be responsive? Shield only having max 3 GB of RAM, that's the same amount as my 12 year old laptop. From my experience android uses more RAM compared to win 7( phone uses almost 2GB with nothing launched, while win 7 around 600 MB) . Will $3000 laser projector perform worse than $150 android tv box device with 4 GB of RAM? Projector I am considering: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B08FXN1SVR?th=1 The details they provide is a joke, floppy for crying out loud... I assume bright enough laser projector might be used outside in the fresh air, that's a plus during summer heat wave. I don't care much about widevine certification, because it's no good for non English content anyway, and I am trying to improve experience of users that don't speak English(my parents). Having official google play services support would save a lot of headache on the other side, so that's another reason not to order from China. I wouldn't buy new TV, when I got nowhere to put my old ones, yes multiple, already. I might get both projector and a tv box, if someone can suggest great device that ships from within EU. And I don't trust wireless too much, so device better have RJ-45 port. I know alternative is downloading a ton of content and running local media server, but that's only good for classic good stuff that you know you will want to watch again.
  16. Budget (including currency): whatever it takes to make it work. Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Mostly saving/streaming locally a butt ton of anime. some other minor file sharing for blender and such for the family. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): It's a project that I've been collecting parts for over the course of a few months buying a part or two every payday. These are things I already have in my possession. What did I do wrong and what will it take to make it work? I am planning on using unraid because I read that you can add drives over time. I have figured out that there is something wrong with the top two rows of drive bays in the chassis because it won't power on when power is plugged into those two. I am looking into a replacement option for them but i can survive without them for now. there is no signal coming from my graphics card which is concerning because it has all the signs of booting up. I know the graphics card works because it went from one computer straight into this. My biggest concern is that there are two plugs for cpu on the motherboard and my power supply does not have the cables for both so I plugged only the 8pin in hoping that would suffice. all the fans turn on and any rgb is lighting up. I thought I had done enough research before starting. I don't have enough knowledge to know what I don't know.
  17. Budget (including currency): £0 Country: UK Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Media Server and Home Assistant Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Okay, bear with me. I have hardware, some of it is set up - I like DIY things, I like repurposing things. I've set my budget as £0 but really it's "I don't want to spend any money if I can help it" but I will if I need to. I was introduced to the "techie" world in 2018 when I started gaming with some new friends via my xbox, they were all on PC and so Feb 2019, with no prior experience I decided to build my own PC. It literally took me 24 hours - I had no idea what I was doing and couldn't work out what a Molex from a Sata was. I gamed for a good year but then the group drifted apart, I also met my new partner (gaming filled a gap in my life!) and I didn't turn my PC on for months. Last year when he moved in, I bought some Hue bulbs and then the home automation thing just spiralled. I now run a small amount of home automation stuff, and when I had finished most of the lights I noticed I could integrate Plex into Home Assistant. HASSIO runs all the lights, motion sensors, door sensors etc. I dragged in my mums old PC I had just stuck outside for scrap and got to work with hard drives I had salvaged from that PC and my brothers dead laptop. My current setup is as follows: Upstairs PC - I7 processor, 16gb ddr4 ram, 1060 GB GPU, 750gb SSD - linux installed and all documents have been moved to google drive. I currently am trying to install docker and traefik on it. Downstairs PC - Old MS-7800 mobo, 8gb ddr3 ram, AMD A10-5800 cpu, Linux with sabnzd, sonarr, plex, radarr etc. I use teamviewer from upstairs pc to remote into it - noticed it hates calibre so uninstalled that. I now have acquired from my work a Fujitsu Celsius M470-2 - Xeon E5630@2.53GHz, 12GB ram, has 4 caddies in it and a basic 710 graphics card (for hdmi output). Basically a ten year old server machine. No harddrives but has space for at least 7 drives, takes a mix of SCSI and sata. This has nothing installed at the moment as I just picked it up. I'm prepared to upgrade that machine if its possible, or even if its required - one day I'll perhaps get a proper little nas or QNAP but I'm operating on a single mother budget at the moment. I also have an iPad pro and was pleasantly surprised to realise I can use a mouse and keyboard with it. Basically I have a lot of old tech, I want to do things with it but my use case isn't as detailed as some of the builds on here! With all the above I would like to run an efficient media server, pihole, home assistant, be able to browse the internet, and maybe I'll find new projects. So if you were me what would you do with all the above? Which hardware would you use for what?
  18. I work for a church, and I have been asked to see if there are any possible options that could be used to stream video output from a single computer to multiple destinations, with each destination being its own separate audio and video output not affected by the rest. Each destination will be in a different classroom, so not necessarily visible to the person running it. Essentially, we would like to be able to plug in a computer in a single location and not have to move that computer around to play videos in various classrooms. Anybody got any ideas?
  19. I am looking into trying to buy my husband a NAS for Christmas this year as a surprise. I've tried researching and I am having a difficult time trying to choose one that will have the ability to run 4K videos smoothly. He mainly wants it to store his favorite shows and he did mention wanting to use plex as well. I was going to purchase a DS1821+ however I do not know if that is overkill for the purposes that we intend to use it for. I would like something like is user friendly which is why I was going to go with synology and preferably one that we will be able to use for the foreseeable future. They seem to have excellent reviews as far as that goes. My budget is around $1000. I would like to stay within that range as I know I will have to by drives for the bays. If someone could give me suggestions on a model or what I should look for I would appreciate it.
  20. Budget (including currency): max. 1000€ Country: Germany (Greater EU Region) Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Plex Media Server, Windows 10/11 OS Other details: I already have an Define 7 XL Case to store everything inside. No need for a monitor or keyboard/mouse. Hey guys, I'm currently running my Plex Server on the first PC I ever got from 2014 with an AMD A8-6600K APU with Radeon HD Graphics (please don't judge, was 13 had no idea about tech, the case looked cool to my 13 year old me) Now it's time for a new one, since the old one isn't capable of handling my growing library. As mentioned above I already got myself a Case. It's the same one that Linus used in his 320TB Video. Now I'm struggling to get the other parts together since building PCs is quite new for me. The Plex Server is used in house as well as externally for my friends and family. We have Gigabit Networking at home so would be great if it could make use of that. The Server holds everything from digitized DVDs and Tapes to 4K HDR Content. Currently around 16TB. And because I'm a real TV and Movie Buff it grows at around 4TB a year. Plex recommends an Intel i7 with 3.2 Ghz for 4K use but I'm not entirely sure about that since The Internet was kinda set on an AMD Ryzen 5 3600. Guess I need a good recommendation for CPU, Mainboard and GPU. Everything else PC Partpicker will hopefully be my best friend. Really hope Linus will do a Build for this topic one day. Has a lot of potential I think. Thank you in advance for any advice
  21. Here is the problem I am having, I need a device capable of streaming over wifi to my TV, what's on my computer connected through Ethernet. So PC -> Router (Wired) -> Device (wired, accepting input from an external accessory and outputting back to PC) -> stream onto TV (wireless). My rig: Gaming Rig in Study room. (RTX 2060 super, AMD ryzen 7 5800x 8-core, 16gb RAM) Connected to internet modem/router via ethernet router is a USP connect box. Router is in corridor LG TV 4K UHD 55inch in living room connected to same network via wifi I have a USB wireless Keyboard+Mouse & a gamepad/controller that I would like to use to game for example Witcher or AC series. I would like to play using my PC hardware and steam library, whilst sitting in the living room. I would like to use a device capable of streaming my computer's game library or cast my desktop. Be able to connect my keyboard, mouse, gamepad to the device, and the device reads the input and outputs it to my PC. gamepad input -> device -> wireless connection -> picked up at router -> input rerouted through Ethernet to PC -> PC reads gamepad's input successfully from living room -> outputs the right command Basically, be able to use external accessories to play in living room using a streaming device, what's on my computer. I would like to also use the same streaming device, to stream a media library using PLEX or whatever necessary application. Media can be on the device's storage itself Or an external hard drive connected to the device Or straight up streaming using my computer hardware and storage. I heard one way is to use Nvidea TV Shield pro in such way, using "Geforce Experience Shield game streaming" which works as long as I have an nvidea GPU. Here is a schematic: https://pasteboard.co/C5NTs9Fz4EEj.jpg I am seeing if there is a better option, or a cheaper option to achieve the same result. Instead of using an Nvidea shield TV pro, maybe a NAS/streaming hybrid device or anything else. Please help me, or else I will result to using Nvidea's option.
  22. I've built my first PC (I'm calling Bunker) a month ago. I'm wanting to use my 14tb Exo drive into a sort of media storage that I can access from anywhere and only that drive even if I need to set aside a few cores and a little bit of RAM. Edit: I'm wanting use this as a place I can upload to even in another state.
  23. Hi, I recently had this issue where in any audio played (usually videos online and offline) there would be audio micro-stuttering (persisting after clean install, transitioned from windows 10 to windows 11 and still the same issue), The issue happens once in a while but is noticeable enough to cause alarm and would like to figure out what is the cause of it and how to fix it. Audio gets stuck for a split second (usually the same sound is heard for that split second), it feels unsettling but nothing too huge and it is hard to describe exactly how it sounds like other than that it's the same type of sound regardless of audio played. I do not know if I noticed it in games since I do not play much, however I recall hearing it also in a specific game, on my previous windows installation (specifically on Overcooked 2 while moving the platforms with the virtual joystick inside the game level if you are familiar), other games I did not notice the effect. I recently downloaded the Realtek Drivers from Asus (which comes with an audio console software) and I still notice the issue. (Specs can be found on profile, except currently windows 11 are installed) I have installed all the latest and recommended drivers from the Asus and Nvidia websites. Thanks in advance.
  24. Hey guys, i have some dilemma here. I want to buy a NAS, specifically Synology DS220j and I want to use it to store all my data, photos and family videos. I know and I am using Plex Media Server on my laptop to cast videos and films to my chromecast and it works well, but I want to store all media on NAS and then cast it to chromecast. The problem is: I heard about transcoding media to run Plex Server and it requires more advanced NAS hardware to run. I think the model I choose is not powerful enough to transcode the videos in 1080p. What happend if I buy this NAS, fill it with my files, videos and than I cast this files from NAS to Chromecast? Can this NAS handle this process? Most of my family videos are 1080p H264 with bitrate aroud 5 to 10Mbps. Mostly I will be casting only in my home in 1080p (maybe 4K in the future), so I don't need to run it outside of my house. Thanks for your replies and tips.
  25. Does anybody have experience with broadcasting and Livestreams on a medium to large scale (input wise) Context: live stream of events, talks and lectures What we have: fully audio/visual networked building. 8 small lecture rooms, 1 big Auditorium. We get all signals to our server room and get them via hdsdi. The plan is to have simultaneous streams from all 8 lecture rooms and the auditorium. My questions are. What do you guys think is necessary "PC" wise. (Thinking of Intel Xeon because of thunderbolt) And some 2080ti or Quadros. The "capture cards" of our as of now choosing are aja io 4k plus. The audience won't be that big, 1000 people at max. Does anybody have aws or ibm streaming experience? Are there better European hosted services? I am just at the beginning of understanding what might and might not be possible. Any suggestion is extremely welcome. (It won't be suitable for us to have a dedicated streaming Server on premises, as we don't have the bandwidth for multicasts) Johetan
