  1. Budget (including currency): < $500 Country: United States TrueNAS Scale server - programs or workloads that it will be used for: cloudflare, notifiarr, plex, prowlarr, qbittorrent, radarr, sabnzbd, sonarr, traefik, unifi, and more+. PC - Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Apex, Discord, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Fortnite on the rare occasion. Hello All, I am currently looking to possibly upgrade my TrueNAS server that I have built from an old PC that's about 15 years old. I have a PC I built in 2019-2020 that I use for gaming and video/photo editing. Instead of spending money buying new hardware for my TrueNAS server, I would rather make select upgrades to my PC and use the old parts as my server. PC Desktop: TrueNAS Server: CPU: Intel Core i9-9900 Intel i7 860 Motherboard: Z390 Aorus Pro WiFi Old AF RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR4 3200 C16 4x16GB DDR3 16GB GPU: Nvidia RTX 2070S (Super) ATI Radeon HD 5770 The server gets the job done, but it's reaching its limit. Sometimes when requesting a task, no matter the app, the app will crash and redeploy. I can maybe do 3 simultaneous streams with plex, but that is if nothing else is actively in use. I would like to move the CPU, MB, and RAM from my PC over to my server now/soon. And then, in a year, pick up a new GPU and move my 2070S to the server. What would be a good CPU+MB combo to upgrade my PC to? Or would it be more financially efficient to upgrade my TrueNAS server hardware and upgrade to a new GPU in the same timeframe?
  2. Before discussing software, this is the hardware I'm working with: CPU: i5-13500 (has iGPU which I think can transcode JellyFin video in realtime) MoBo: ASRock H610M-H2/M.2 D5 (Micro ATX) RAM: Crucial DDR5 (2x16GB) PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower PF1 750W 80 Plus Platinum HDD: 3x Seagate Exos HDD 3.5'' PCI-e: Asus XG-C100C Gigabit (10Gbps) Ethernet Tower: Natec Helix Micro (Now, this tower isn't really for NAS - it can only fit 3 HDDs but I can't find any nas-specific case in skroutz.gr so tough luck for me I guess) Some background on me. I'm a Data Scientist, working with Neural Networks and needing access to datasets spanning from a few GBs to over 1TB each. I am mainly using Windows, but I am somewhat familiar with Linux, especially debian based distros, hence using the terminal is not an issue. My needs are: Tolerance for HDD failure and restoring my system when I replace the failed disk NAS Mounted drives which can be accessed on my home (Lan) network (computers on the network will work on files in there in realtime) At some time in the future I might want to use space in there for a security camera but I guess that's just 1 more mounted drive, so it's the same as the above Samba (Windows Explorer) access to the mounted drives FTP access to the mountned drives JellyFin to serve files in one of the mounted drives as a media server I know of Unraid, which as far as I understand allows you to mismatch HDD capacities (which would be a big plus for me), and of TrueNAS which as far as I understand you need to have same-capacity drives. From what I gather, and correct me if I'm wrong, with both of them I can get the basic functionality of mounting drives and exposing them with FTP/SMB out of the box, and with Docker Containers I can install JellyFin and get the media server that way. The ability to create a VM would be a plus (altough I don't think I'd needed it very often), and even better if I could attach a dedicaded GPU and be able to train neural networks remotely this way (again, I probably will never use that). Is my understanding correct? And if so, which software would you recommend for my use case (feel free to suggest some other one if you think is better), and how would you set it up? If you have any article quide or video or equivalent in mind, please do share. (P.S. It does not matter to me if it's free, or open source, or paid - either works)
  3. Hey all, My father recently asked me if I could configure him a small media server to put their movies/ tv shows on so they could watch tv while they're up in the mountains or traveling. The server needs to be able to communicate with their TV even when they don't have reception on their hotspot, not entirely sure how to make that happen or if it is even possible. I am definitely a noob when it comes to server related things so the more user friendly the better. My initial thought process is getting a cheap mini pc such as the link posted at the bottom and putting a larger m.2 in it, partitioning a small section for the OS, using the rest as storage, and adding an additional 2.5" SSD to up the capacity. He already has a Netgear MR6500 hotspot router with unlimited data so that he can view how his solar panels are doing or adjust the thermostat in the trailer while it is in storage, so it already has a constantly powered internet connection (reception permitting). Im open to either plex or jellyfin, just whichever you smart people think will be easier to setup/ manage, again I'm new to this stuff. I'm not trying to break the bank or needing anything with a lot of horsepower, their TV is only 1080p and should be the only thing connecting to the server at any given moment. With all that said, what are your thoughts? Do you think it will work? Is there a way to connect to the server when their hotspot does not have reception? (can I run a ethernet cable from the TV to the server to communicate when there's no internet? Maybe Bluetooth or even just running an HDMI cable to the TV?) Do I need to add anything to the TV to make it communicate to the server ( It is a Jensen JE5020 that is planned to be replaced with a nicer TV sometime in the far future) What would I need to do, to be able to access the server remotely to add movies and shows to it? Mini PC (Amazon)
  4. Budget (including currency): Sub $1000, ideally more like $750 Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: PLEX, Windows 11, and storage Hi folks! Long time LTT viewer, just joined the forum to get some direction. I know what I'm doing in terms of construction, but could use additional eyeballs on components for a relatively-budget home Plex server. Here's the PCP list, but highlights below: CPU: i3-10100 (w/ stock cooler and integrated graphics) RAM: 16GB DDR4 3200 MoBo: MSI B560M Pro-E - note: main PC on the network has a ASRock X570 Pro4, so ethernet file transfers are currently bottlenecked to 1gbps PSU: CoolerMaster 550W 80+B Storage: 256GB M.2 boot drive, 2x4TB 3.5in 7200rpm drives (RAID 1) I would love recommendations on the specs themselves, and also revs for cases (ideally with additional 3.5in drive bays) that have an understated, clean look and are easy to build in for someone with Giant orangutan hands. Cheers!
  5. I know this is an age old question, but I haven't found anything very conclusive. I am trying to get a home NAS set up and have been looking for drives. I am using it mostly as a media server, with a little bit for important information that I actually care about ~2Tb. I found new 8tb seagate exos drives on newegg for 120USD, which is a pretty good price, but also manufacturer recertified 12tb seagate exos drives on serverpartdeals for 105USD. They are $15/Tb versus $7.50/Tb. How reliable are the manufacturer recertified drives? The new drives have a 5 year manufacturer warranty, and here is a 2 year manufacturer warranty on the recertified drives. I wanted ~18Tb in raid6, but if I can get almost double the storage for the same price, the only downside is reliability. How much is the reliability affected with manufacturer recertification?
  6. Budget (including currency): $1000 (USD) Country: USA Used for: Media, Software, Document, and possible VM Storage Details: I have a few left over parts that I have had from previous pc builds I've completed for others in the recent past. I don't do it often but I really enjoy just building computers for the heck of it. Anway I have the following just laying around doing nothing and I think it's time I build a NAS for storing things online and offline. Currently I have: Gigabyte Aorus Z390 Pro WiFi About 30 TB cobined mix of M.2 and SATA SSDs, and HDDs Thermaltake Toughpower Grand 850w RGB Intel i3 9100 32gb Corsair Vengence mem TOO MANY Noctua 120mm fans Thermaltake View 51 and View 71 cases NVidia GeForce 7800 GT OC NVidia GeForce GTX 710 NVidia GeForce GTX 1060 NVidia GeForce GTX 1660Ti NVidia GeForce GTX 1660S Obviously some of this is overkill and some could use some serious just gotten rid of. What Hardware would be best though get get a NAS up and working. I'd rather buy new and replace something overkill or that may not be suitable.
  7. Budget (including currency): about €500 Country: Netherlands Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: HTPC (Kodi ,Netflix, VPN) - Digitalize my DVD/BluRay Collection, Home media/Storage Server. and some video/photo editing. Teams/Skype Meetings. Access the media collection everywhere. Monitors This will be my Primary the Livingroom 50" TV, (Smart TV 4k), Bedroom 32"TV, kidsroom 32"(FHD Smart TV) Peripherals I would need a wireless keyboard mouse. Why? Well, my HomeCinema Set, broke down this is the second time within 3 years. Then shortly after my WD Cloud storage broke stopped working, (i´m still trying to recover some files from the HDD). then the Synology Nas i got from an friend is also dead (and making a terrible noise also, and only able to host 2x 3.5"HDD´s. After my WD storage broke down, i bought a Seagate 6TB Expansion Storage Backup. (but that one after only simple one time use to store a clone of the Notebook files so they could be reinstalled, had the luck that it was a faulty one, because when i started the drive for the second time, to restore the files it made a death sound, and was not accessible anymore. and lost a lot of files). So now i am done with those extension Disk and Ready cloud drives, that have no expendable capability´s and when they stop working you just can´t access the info on it, because you´ll have to format the whole drive to reinstall that specific firmware, it´s just not practical, Therefore I decided, better to handle everything at once. I have a big Movie&Series collection, and do not have the space for it anymore.. so digitalizing and be able to access it everywhere was the way to solve that problem. But now, because i do not have experience in that department i need help. what do i need to realize this.? I´ve watched and read a lot of video´s and info about HTPC and so on. but i can´t filter the information to fit to my needs. Especially when it comes to setting it up / deploying it after assembling the PC. So i have a few questions. Can anyone help me recommend me on completing the parts list. I have some preferred brands with some but just don´t know witch would be best for my needs. Parts: CPU --> Ryzen 7 4750G (present new) M.2 --> Boot Disk WD Black SN750 1TB (Present new) Storage --> Toshiba Enterprise 8TB (Present new) & several used HDD 3.5 & 2.5. MoBo --> B550/x570/or Z.... (Asus/Asrock/Gigabyte) Ram --> HyperX/G.skill/Teamgroup ( how many modules - speed - capacity) GPU --> ? (when needed prefer Gigabyte/Asus/Zotac) Nvidia or AMD what would be better for my needs. (keeping in mind, that i probally would like to be able to run Vm´s with it. PSU Nas --> Hot swap drive cage (3.5 & 2.5" capable) or diy an hot swap drive rack. Other: Sound bar (or is there any way that i can use the 5.1 speakers from the HomeCinema Set ) ? what do i need for getting my Collection digital, on my server Last, what needs to be done, to make it operational? Can someone give me a guide to set it up? Hope on your support.
  8. Hi Guys! I wanted to reach out and see if anybody could help me out with getting a home photo server set up. I don't know what OS nor system I should use that would be worth setting up. I'm thinking about a easy-to-run Linux install and a Samba server but I can't tell if that would be the best choice given the time it would take to set up. I think I will pick up some 2tb HDD's and get those hooked up to the system. Also, the computer I have for the server is an old 2core/4thread desktop which isn't too powerful. Thanks!
  9. Budget (without Drives): 150,-€ Country: Austria Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Plex Media Server Other details: I'm planning to bild a budget PC to run Plex on. I just want an one thing home streaming service. I know a raspberry could be an option, but it struggles fast with more clients. I don't want to use a NAS because it is harder to repair and upgrade. But if know it better, please let me know so I get the most out. I just want an one thing home streaming service. I'm excited (≧▽≦) Zer0 < 42

I'm inspired by your fiber optics solution to centralisd server. Would you be able to help me what solution would be appropriate for the following setup? Specially for me to be able to run the cable and ability to switch to different things at the same time? If it means multiple corning thunderbolt cable, thats fine too. or KVM switch or hub. It would be great to get your tips as i will be building the house from ground up and setting up the first ever ambient computer setup. Budget is no problem for us as we're even looking for 15 Tesla batteries to power our home with solars for off-grid ;)
  11. I have a old computer running dual core intel corre i3 3240t and 8gb of ddr3 dual channel memory. I am buying a new pc next month so if i repurpose it will it be able to perform as a home media server. For streaming content and storing data. I have only 2-3 users at a time.
  12. Greetings all, There is so much information regarding setting up NAS and in so many different ways. I have an i5 3570,16GB Ram, 16GB SSD(boot), and 1 TB of HDD, and all this is strictly for testing purposes right now. The final hardware will be different. My goal is to consolidate media(movies & music) for myself and only my friends(max 7) to access it from anywhere(NOT just locally) through PCs and android phones. For initial setup I have installed TrueNAS using these instructions https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wya16ef1G-E Have set up Static IP for the NAS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUodt6_e5KA and made a pool(striped) using these instructions https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CnRaWED9QN8 Is only one user sufficient or do I need multiple users and what kind of sharing type do I need which is secure too? I would like to know what is further set up to suits my needs and goals mentioned earlier. I'm absolutely new to all this so any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  13. Hello everybody, We are looking to install multiple internet connection trought out our house. There should be 10-ish connection in total. Internet cable are all ready installed,(cat 5e) in the most part, just need to be terminated, thats not the problem. I need sugestion for how to connect all these device + a media server (plex server to be config). We have a 1gb/s internet connection from our IPS and most device need to be connected to internet. Do you have any suggestion for a switch that could meet those specs, easy to use for an amateur and most important, silent enough. I am in no way an expert, so if you have suggestion for software, hardware, etc, go for it thanks a lot -edit : I also need some sort of tutorial on how to setup thing coorectly. LTT did a video not long ago for a plex server, but i dont know how to correctly setup a network switch. if you have some reference for me, that would be great !! thanks again
  14. Idk if this belongs here, but I hope you people can help me. So I have a jellyfin media server (jellyfin is the open source version of Emby, basically like Plex but everything is free). And I have it all set up for local streaming and it works awesome. I want to stream the media remotely, outside of my home LAN, and to do that I know I have to set up port forwarding and enable remote access. But the problem is my ISP puts me behind a CGNAT (carrier grade network address translation layer, like another router or series of routers on my way to the internet). So my public IP (which is dynamic), (which is the IP that I get when I go to websites like https://whatismyipaddress.com/ is not the WAN IP I put in my router (I don't have a modem, my ISP gives every user in my neighborhood a direct ethernet cable to their house, so it's not like my modem has a public ip). Which means as far as I understand, port forwarding on my router won't do anything to make my localhost visible to the internet because there are other NATs between my router and the internet and those routers won't know where to sent the traffic unless the ports were forwarded on those routers too. My ISP charges insane rates for public IPs and static public IPs so that isn't really an option. So what I just set up is ngrok, which from what I understand tunnels traffic on a specific tcp port, which I set to the port that jellyfin uses, and I can access it from outside my lan, and it's working for now. It's over http, should I set up https with self signed certificates? How secure is what I'm doing right now? Can my pc be compromised if someone gets access to the server in some way? I have very secure passwords for the media server accounts, do they help in any way?
  15. I am starting planinng to build a real Nas to replace a fatigued raspbi 4 with an external 8tb WD disk, a 2tb time capsule (becoming more and more unreliable) and another 2tb wd Nas. I need something which could archive documents and media. Because a lot of these data are important to me I was thinking of at least a 4bay, raid 5 solution. I was thinking to begin with 6/8tb per disk. Nice to have is a media server feature (I've been using emby happily so far). Do you have any suggestion for any particular brand and model? Also, is there any suggestion of disks? Thanks a lot in advance!
  16. I am a former Plex user and switched to Jellyfin 6 months from now...I was really happy that all of media was easily accessible ,Jellyfin was customizable as hell unlike and all of my x264 media not getting transcoded while playing on any device I had. Why I think Jellyfin is better the Plex: It is open source (so free) It is customizable You have access to YOUR MEDIA unlike Plex where you have to go to the side bar and click on more to even see you server and dogging all the extra movies that you don't have There are no adds More better UI IMO. Custom CSS Skin Options from which you can edit the way it looks and many community members including me have made some great Skins for it that change the way it looks completely Huge plugin library Many clients Growing community Jellyfin's stock looks might look familiar for some people who use Emby as it is a fork of Emby but keep in mind that they have changed the UI and the backend side of things drastically. Jellyfin can run on nearly any device(as long as you don't have to transcode anything) you have and on nearly any platform(supported platform list given below). I personally use it with RPi4 4GB Ram Ver on docker with 13 more containers and a NGiNX reverse proxy(You can see their docs[link below] for other reverse proxy and external access service setup). List of Supported Platform you can install the Jellyfin SERVER: Docker Debian and Ubuntu Arch Linux Fedora and CentOS Generic linux MacOS Windows (Portable Available) FreeBSD (Community) All clients can be found at: https://jellyfin.org/clients/ | https://jellyfin.org/docs/general/clients/index.html Jellyfin Docs: https://jellyfin.org/docs/ Jellyfin Site: https://jellyfin.org/ Jellyfin Demo: https://demo.jellyfin.org/ List of community themes: JellySkin | https://github.com/prayag17/JellySkin JellyFlix | https://github.com/prayag17/JellyFlix Monochromic | https://github.com/CTalvio/Monochromic Kaleidochromic | https://github.com/CTalvio/Kaleidochromic Novachromic | https://github.com/CTalvio/Novachromic Other CSS customization options can be found at : https://jellyfin.org/docs/general/clients/css-customization.html or you can install Skin Manager Plugin for it : https://github.com/danieladov/jellyfin-plugin-skin-manager
  17. I've been thinking of building my own home server (for photos, movies, and general storage), but I don't really know much about building one from an old system yet. Just saw an HP Elitedesk Gen 3 being sold for only 100USD only. (HP ProDesk also available for 60USD only) Will be posting the exact specs once the seller replies but do you think this is worth a buy for a home media server?
  18. Hi All So im looking for to build or buy a plex server and nas. I have a ton of movies and tv that i want to be able to access on my smart devices, and from my phone. Max resolution i would working with is 1080p. Max 3 streams at once. I also want to be able to digitize my record and tape collections and be able to stream my music. Being able to put photos on this and having access to them would be great to. Finally i need a file server for confidential medical files. I have to keep files for 6 years after treatment and having them all in paper makes accessing and deleting them extremely difficult. Im not sure what OS, i should be using for this but any help would be great. I have two 3 tb drives i can use for storage. My budget is $400 up to $600 if it will last a long time. Being able to set it and forget it would be great. Im fine with buying a prebuilt or building something myself. Major bonus if the server could trans-code the plex streams, so the devices dont have to. Any help is appreciated thanks all!
  19. Hey so I have been running this on and off for a few months and I have been trying to think of solution for how I should optimally take advantage of my hardware, so I thought I would just come to the forum and ask for some advice. Down below are the questions I have as well as the build I am using for my home server. So I have a "decently" collection of hardware and I put together a home server for storing files and running small game servers. I have been running into so many network problems and wanted to just seek bettwe advice as to how I should set the machine up to do what I need it to do. Before I moved this rig to Ubuntu it was on Windows and was a Media Encoder ingest server for the videos I edited (4k - 8k footage) After I moved it to Ubuntu it was my local NAS and minecraft server (it would be running upwards of 5 minecraft servers at a time each with upwards of 4-10GB of RAM dedicated to their instances). I currently live with 4 Twitch streamers 2 of us are editors that get a ton of footage pretty much every week (more like 40+ clips equalling upwards of 8gb+) so having a way to store VODS or download folders of clips from a google drive would help immensley. Now I am in the process of just reinstalling an OS and staring from scratch, but I want some advice on how I can acomplish some if not all of these tasks on one machine. Most importantly a NAS that will be access from pretty much only Windows machines and a machine to host game servers on, mnostly Minecraft. I don't really care for a "media server" because I have no idea how to even make use of that (like store stuff on it, I know the name Plex but not actually what it is/how it works) but I do have a theatre room, running off of an Xbox Series X and the house is networked with cat5e (i'm pretty sure). I know of unRaid but I'm not really looking to spend more money on this setup but if there aren't any other alternatives out there then I'm down to buy a liscence. For those wondering about security, I know this isn't the best way to do this but I find that it works fine, but I basically have a double NAT where my main router connects to my tplink router from LAN-WAN and the tplink router is in DHCP mode and is port-forwarded on all ports (1-65535) and then on the tplink the server is port-forwarded on certain ports like SSH, MYSQL, SFTP, HTTPS, etc... I am not very much into network sercurity but this is pretty the only thing I could find (for myself I know there is other stuff out there). Any advice is greatly appreciated thanks! 20. Ok so lets start this off by saying i have a bunch of old servers laying around my house (im in IT so i tend to gather old equipment). For the last few years i have been using a dell R710. I have been using proxmox to manage this server. specs are below 2x xeon 6 core processors 24GB RAM (i have failing ram slots.. it is suppose to be 64GB) 4x 4TB 7200RPM toshiba enterprise storage drives 1x 500 GB SSD i run OS and some other stuff off of On this machine i run a container for emby, a windows vm that i run my vpn (PIA) and utorrent, sonarr, radarr, etc, and finally I run a windows 10 VM that I work off of (dont want to use my actual gaming pc for work) This has worked pretty good for a few years.. i even use to have 5400rpm wd reds in there (4tb) and upgraded to the 7200rpm enterprise drives.. However, not only am I running out of space, but I am also sharing my libraries with a few family members so i notice some slowness. Also lately i made a whoopsie doodle. lets just say i hadnt linux'd for a while and i was trying to clear out my cache folder for emby and i accidentally wiped all files that were not currently locked on the ENTIRE proxmox environment.. needless to say, my emby still works for reasons that i wont waste time explaining how, however, I cannot access proxmox os, or shares or anything outside of the containers and vms.. so if they shut down or server reboots, its done. So I have been thinking of upgrading anyways so when this happened, I went ahead and purchased an HP Z840 workstation. it has 2x 14-core xeons and 64GB of RAM. I also purchased 3x 10TB 7200RPM enterprise drives, and I have a crucial 525GB SSD laying around. Anyways, the plan is to throw unraid in this system and put the 3 10tb drives in there with one of them being parity and the ssd being cache. So now to my question. I have another R410 server at my house i have been testing unraid on while i wait for my HP to come in.. I installed unraid and installed my dockers, etc.. i seem to have the dockers working and everything, but everytime i reboot my server, ALL of my settings for the dockers go away.. I read up about my appdata being set to write to cache only.. i tried that and its still happening. I swear ive spent days so far trying different combo's and everytime all my data is gone. searching is bringing me to the same articles and I cant figure it out. Anyone have any ideas? or is unraid even the right way to go? Been following LTT for a long time, just decided to go to my forums here since most of my friends are either not tech nerds like me or have experience in other departments and dont ever venture into this realm. Thanks everyone, have a GREAT day!
  21. Hi everyone, I'm just wondering as I am quite new to the whole concept of a home server does anyone have any suggestions for something I could use as a Plex server? I'm open to any ideas. I'm intending on using it for a max of 2-3 1080p video streams on my home network (about 350mpbs). I also have 2 Raspberry Pi 3Bs I could use. Feel free to link products although if possible please link to either the UK/EU version of the retailers website or retailers that ship internationally. Thank you!
  22. Hello I'm not sure if this is the right forum for a question like this and if it isn't please direct me to a forum that is. I want to uses my old gaming computer as a Plex and Nextcloud server and possibly use it as a gaming console. The issue I had 3 10tb drives in the computer before running windows storage spaces in a raid 5 like configuration plus a boot ssd drive not part the raid . The computer ran the Plex server fine in windows but Nextcloud is a linux exclusive. I backed all my files up to a fourth drive and installed linux. I picked distros that had a GUI because Im thinking about making the computer a gaming console as well. Since then I had tried creating a raid 5 array using both mdadm and Btrfs on pop os and fedora kde on the 3 10tb drives (still using the ssd as a boot drive and not part of the raid). Both efforts have ended in me breaking the operation system. I followed guides online but they have not worked. I know the drives work because they still work fine in windows. I'm pretty sure what is breaking the system is the nano command that the guides have. I have also never been able to verify that the raid arrays have ever worked in linux even before the nano commands. I have also found out the hard way not to uses fdisk because a lot of the guides forgot to mention that I need to uses tools like gparted to partion the drive and not fdisk because fdsik is outdated and dose not support drives bigger than 2 tbs. I also found out that Btrfs is not great for raid 5. So I believe I'm looking for a way to get mdadm to work correctly unless there is a better and hopefully GUI way to do raid 5 on linux. As you might be able to tell from my terminology I'm kinda a linux noob and only just recently started daily driving it on my main computer. I'm not sure if I'm just missing something or the guides are just incorrect. Im open to installing any distro that might do this better except for arch because I want this to be pretty stable. If there is any thing you know that could help me that would be much appreciated. links the guides I followed that did not work for me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3Iq9hx8V7U https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQen55FIfMM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RzmIoXRkjDs
  23. I'm doing research into building a custom media server that will run an immersive experience for my company. The problem I've been running into is that information about building these is nil, and commercially available ones are woefully underpowered and have an insane price tag. What I could find was that I can use quadro sync to match the framerates of every output while also supporting projection overlap, but instructions on this tech is unclear on nvidia's website. It leaves me with questions like: Generally how does Quadro Framesync work and what are the requirements? Does there need to be one Quadro per computer or multiple Quadros per? Do I need additional components for this technology to work? What is required to run a single server for the max output of 32 displays? Xeon chips also make you dive down a rabbit hole, where sockets and motherboards for those sockets differ, although I feel like I can narrow the search once I know the requirements for Nvidia's side of processing. This is going to be a behemoth of a computer, but the commercially available ones are at most 12 outputs and worth upwards of $50,000 which should be super easy to beat with price, speed, and overall power consumption to boot. Any help would be appreciated!
  24. Trying to understand how big these things can get
  25. I am planning on building my first NAS out of an old Optiplex 7010 that I have. I just wanted to see if I was missing anything obvious. Already have: CPU: Intel I7-3770 MOBO: Dell proprietary RAM: 2x8 DDR3 1600MHZ GPU: Nvidia GT630 Buying: HBA: LSI 9211-8i Storage: (6) Seagate Exos x12 12 TB (used) PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower GX2 600w Case: Coolermaster N400 I plan on using the NAS as a data backup for my main rig and laptop as well as a jellyfin share. The main question that I have is what level of RAID to use. I am trying to decide between two raidz1 vdevs with three drives each and one raidz2 across all the drives. Is there any kind of performance difference or redundancy difference? Any help with hardware would also be greatly appreciated.
