hi everyone my laptop runs on an intel i7 10750h and gtx 1650ti my pc runs on a 7700k and an RTX 2070 super while rendering videos my pc utilizes full CPU and GPU but my laptop CPU usage hovers at around 20-30% and GPU is almost 0. hence my pc renders the same file almost 5 times faster. can i change this? is there a setting i need to change? or i just have to deal with it

I use Premiere Pro and After Effects for video editing. I built a separate server to handle rendering to not bog down my editing rig. I set it up using media encoder. However, many of my projects utilize dynamic link between premiere and after effects. This gets missed when I have this machine render it. Any ideas on how to resolve this?

When I try to queue my files from Premiere Pro to Media encoder.. It opens media encoder and starts exporting the video but then in the preview of media encoder, It shows me missing media. (It only shows me missing media for certain parts like the text I took from essential graphics in premiere pro)

Built my first PC this year so please be patient with my beginner knowledge! (Let me know if more specs are needed) Basically got the PC working, got adobe installed, and im not sure why im still getting sub par playback performance / rendering. Cinebench is 9006, yet it still seems to struggle with relatively simple projects. Opened up task manager to see if I could find an issue and turns out im only using 30% - 50% CPU while running AE / rendering in AME. Really not sure what my next steps should be. Pretty sure my drivers are up to date, my AE RAM usage is maxed, and I have 400gb on my NVME drive for storage that I purge frequently. Any idea why im only getting 30% - 50% cpu usage? GPU also varies around 10% as well using Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (CUDA), is that normal as I know AE is not necessarily made for GPU rendering. i have a problem rendering videos, its really slow and my CPU and GPU aren't using more than 15% of their capacity, the ram only uses 7-8 GB(with 16GB given) and the memory drives basicaly do nothing(hopefully they reach 5 percent), does anybody knows whats going on? A 13 min. video is taking about 5 hours to finish rendering. my PC specs: -i9 9900k -32 gb ram -2tb hdd + 250GB nvme + raid 1tb ssd -rtx 2070 super

Hi, I'm looking for some advice, I need a server/nas solution for our church's video production department. We currently have a Synology NAS with about 36TB of stotgage and we just copy files we need over standard gigabit network. and edit off local SSDs. This has been fine until now using the compressed codecs off the cameras but we have started using broadcast cameras and recording to BlackMagic SSD recorders in ProRes so moving files around and working with such large files is just not working for us. Originally we were just looking at upgrading to a more powerful synology NAS with 10Gbps ethernet but now I don't think even that is enough. We edit on Windows and I'm not sure if we should start transcoding into a different codec and maybe even use proxy files? Id like to have a system where after recording finishes we move all the SSDs into a dock or a server and it automatically copies, transcodes and archives everything ready to start editing during the week. Should we look at building an all in one server and storage solution and run 10gb back to the edit machines? Any advice on hardware, software, codecs for windows (PremiereCC) that will help up streamline our processes would be appreciated. Thanks.

I am doing a major editing pc upgrade for my church, and I was wondering if the GTX 1080 would improve performance. Currently, we work in After Effects, then export to the Media Encoder queue, and then use those files in ATEM. Hello. I am using this PC at work for video production: Cooler Master V750 Gigabyte GA-X99-UD3 Intel Core i7-5820K cooled by a Cooler Master V8 GTS 2x 8 GB Kingston DDR4-2133 Asus Strix Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 SSD Samsung 850 Pro 256 GB Windows 10 Pro 64 bit. Everything is running at stock speeds, BIOS, drivers and Windows all updated. The problem is this: when using Adobe Media Encoder to export videos, the PC randomly reboots. No BSOD, no warnings, nothing. It just reboots itself like someone is pressing the reset button. This happens only when using the CUDA acceleration for the exporting. PC reboots even when working with Premiere Pro with effects or other things that use the CUDA acceleration of the GTX 970. Nothing happens when the CUDA acceleration is disabled. These are the tests we did to understand where the problem is: 1) Change the video card with another one in this PC and test the GTX 970 in another PC. The GTX 970 in another PC gave 0 problems, worked just fine. This PC with another graphics card still reboots in the same conditions. 2) Change the PCI-Express slot. Same behavior. 3) Test memory with MemTest86. No errors detected in RAM. 4) Test CPU with Prime95 and Aida64. No overheating issues, no thermal warning, nothing. 5) Test the GTX 970 in this PC with FurMark. In this case, it is much more difficult to replicate the reboot. Sometimes it reboots, sometimes it doesn't. 6) Change the PCI Express cables from the PSU. No effects or changes. 7) Format the OS. The problem started when we used to run Windows 8.1, persisted when we upgraded to Windows 10 (with a clean install, no direct update) and even reinstalling Windows 10 again. The CPU is OK, RAM is OK, the graphics card in another PC worked just fine. We didn't try with another PSU or another motherboard because we can't have other ones of these right now. Any suggestions? There is something else that can trigger those random reboots?

Hi Everybody! Looking for some advice on how to build our new video editing machines - PLEASE only people that have built these machines or are familiar with the software/workflow of Adobe video editing. I am already familiar with the new Threadripper specs and all, but would like some real world advice on the topic. Currently we have 5 Mac Pros maxed out on specs (below). Trying to run the numbers and see what would cut down our times - Would it be better to build 5 high performance machines that all would encode files at the same times, OR, fewer machines and 1 beast rendering server/farm, OR, go with all maxed out MacPros again when they release them? I am personally leaning towards one of the first two options looking at current prices and performance of non-Mac products. Our current machines are 5 Mac Pros all fully maxed out with the following specs: - 2.7 GHz 12-Core Intel Xeon E5 - 64 GB 1866 MHz DDR3 ECC - 2x AMD FirePro D700 6GB (GDDR5 Vram) in SLI The main program used on these particular 5 machines is Media Encoder, with which we take the final Premiere projects and encode hundreds of files in different formats for all the different TV networks. Thanks in advance guys, would love to know what you think! David

Hello everyone,Here are the specs:Ryzen 1700 - running at stock no overclock yet as I haven't been able to buy after market cooler.16gb of DDR4 RAM @3200MHz2x GTX 1070 - not in SLI as I don't game, I use these for Octane Render (GPU based rendering)OS SSD - 500GBWorking HDD - 1TB Western Digital BlueRunning Windows 10 64bit up to date / AE CC2017 14.2 / Cinema 4D R17 / Nvidia Drivers up to date / This is a brand new computer I just installed Windows a couple of weeks agoHere are the issues i'm having:1.- Using BG Renderer with Multiprocessing on and set to High Priority, I can't continue using After Effects (I can do this without issue at work on my Intel Machine which has 32GB but CPU speed is pretty much the same)2.- Using Adobe Media Encoder to render an AE comp via Dynamic Link, same thing, AE becomes unusable.3.- In these two screenshots you can see how using BG Renderer or AE Renderer won't use more than 25% of CPU power or more than one Thread. 4.- In this screenshot it's the performance when rendering out of Cinema 4D. Completely different from AE and also while rendering on C4D I can use AE simultaneously. I am pulling assets and rendering from my HDD which is very fast until I hit render. And what I am rendering from C4D is very very simple compared to all the images and effects composited in my AE comps but still don't understand why C4D makes use of all the cores and AE doesn't? why am I able to continue working normally in AE when rendering from C4D and not when using Media Encoder or BG Renderer. Why is my CPU not being used anywhere near to 100% at any point? Disclaimer: Haven't tried pulling and rendering to the SSD but I can't afford a 1TB SSD right now either way or more RAM.

Just recently finished building my new desktop with the following specs: Ryzen 1700 - Air cooled with stock cooler 16GB G. Skill FlareX (running at 2400MHz because for some reason I can't edit the frequency on BIOS but it's advertised to run at 3200MHz) 2x EVGA 1070s EVGA 850w PSU 500GB SSD + 1TB HDD I've been noticing some weird performance issues. I am a seasoned Motion Artist so I use After Effects a LOT. Thing is that I've noticed that after a while of normal usage AE becomes laggy, specially while rendering with Adobe Media Encoder. This wasn't happening with my previous Intel PC or my Intel PC at work. I am able to render in the background using Adobe Media Encoder or Background Render for After Effects and continue working without problems on AE. Even rendering in Cinema 4D and continue working in AE plus doing the normal everyday browsing and having a bunch of apps open. Usually after Media Encoder finishes rendering I have to actually quit it so that After effects goes back to normal. I've kept an eye on my processor to try and figure out the problem, but while rendering from Media Encoder it caps at around 30% usage, so what's going on? Granted I am working off the HDD but I don't suspect this is the issue since AE works fine when Media Encoder is not open. I can only suspect the bottleneck is the memory then? I know I still have to figure out overclocking the memory and processor but still, this is an 8 core 16 thread processor running at 3.00GHz (stock) but still should be able to handle this. I would appreciate any suggestions or ideas as I really need this computer to perform like I was expecting.

Hi All, So, after seeing Linus' system that he uses in the editing workflow, (specifically when they render Premiere Pro jobs on their render server) I want to use something similar in my own work flow, not to save time, but rather to get more done on my main computer I have two systems.. MAIN: Core I5 3550 Radion HD7850 8 gb ram Windows 10 OTHER SYSTEM: Intel Q6600 Radion HD7750 3 gb ram Windows 7 So, now, the videos that i'm editing are on the main system, these videos would most probably be H.264 high bitrate 1080P 60 FPS. When I render a video currently, it uses the main system to render, now, as some of you could guess, a system this old isnt exactly the fastest... Now, seeing as i have a second computer that is literally not doing anything, i wanted to turn it into a render farm. Does anyone know how to get Adobe Media Encoder CC17 to use something like a watch folder to render files from another computer over a network Every time i add a .Prproj in media encoder on the other system, it renders and just says "Media Offline" TLDR: I wanna get one computer to render a Premiere Pro file, after its been edited on another computer using a network or watchlist or something Thanks Guys!! Any help would be great!

Hi, I've been using CS6 for a long time now, and I've never really been bothered to figure out how to use CUDA or any form of GPU acceleration during the export process of Adobe Premiere or Media Encoder, however now that I'm looking into it, I can't quite find out how. Does anyone know how to export a video using GPU acceleration in Adobe Media Encoder CS6? Thanks in advanced

My CPU usage fluctuates a lot when using Adobe Media Encoder to render an After Effects project, which is an audio visualizer. I'm using the match source-high bitrate preset. The CPU usage goes up to 80% then 1 second later it comes back down to 40%-50% and then again goes back up to 80%-90%. This makes my rendering times massive. EDIT: Just tried to encode an avi file and the CPU usage is constant, so that means this fluctuation only occurs with After Effects project files. I'm running Adobe After Effects CC 2015 13.7 on Windows 10 My PC Specs: Lenovo x240 configured with: Intel Core i3-4010U 4GB DDR3 RAM 500 GB HDD

Hello Everyone, I was wondering if there is anything I can do to make AfterFX/Media Encoder utilize more than just 16% of my CPU (Intel core i9-9900k, overclocked at 5.0ghz). The video I am encoding uses the median effect and DigitalAnarchy's samurai effect. However, only 14-16% (on avg) of my cpu is being utilized. Any suggestions? Thank you for any help possible.

I have recently got into an argument about which processor is better for Adobe software. Even I am sort of an AMD fanboy, I strongly suggested Intel for such workload because of Quicksync®, Faster hardware accelerated encoding and stability (heard complain about AMD Ryzen not being as stable as Intel). Someone linked to a Jarrod's video with benchmark of Premiere Pro rendering time. I am pretty sure Intel's rendering was not hardware accelerated because there are same performance difference in Intel vs AMD in Premiere Pro as something like 7zip. Lets say 9600k was 5% worse than 3600x in 7zip. Hardware acceleration makes the rendering at least 20-30% faster so Intel should be (-5+25 avg = 20% faster). Nope, the proportion is same in the video. I failed to find a video or article from reputable source that has 2019 benchmark of Ryzen 3xxx (software) vs Intel 9th gen (software) vs Intel 9th gen (hardware). They are like, "Oh you failed to show proof of Intel being better in premiere pro and now talking gibberish.". Would like to see you guys' input in this regard.

I work as a video-editor and finally got a decent (overkill) workstation. Now when I render out my videos, I see my hardware is hardly being used. Both CPU and GPU are running around 5-6% when rendering. I know the PC is overkill but I expected a little more sweat or burning plastic while rendering my videos. I have CUDA enabled. Is there a way so that media encoder uses a bit more resources than it does right now? Specs: Ryzen Threadripper 3970x RTX 2080ti 128 GB RAM

Upon looking at Linus' video on workflow, I was wondering if there's an updated 2018 version for information on building a max system for Adobe video plus 3D rendering. I am having trouble on finding out the cap on what Adobe products can do, particularly in a Mac environment. Everyone I have spoken to who uses the higher core Macs, 10 core and up, aren't seeing a significant improvement in editing/comp workflow for their 4K or even 8K video. I'm trying to pinpoint why the extra cores that they spent a ton of money on are not being used at all. There is very little information online about it - and certainly nothing from Adobe on optimization caps in Mac. Also having trouble finding info about the current GPU utilization on the new Macs. Linus' video on codecs looks like it answers that question for the most part, but is the answer the same in 2018 as it was in 2015? I don't see much issue with Windows 10 PCs in scale for CPU or GPU - it looks like the issue is more on the intermediate codec you are using to edit (as the below video shows). My agency is currently looking at an upgrade for a render server or just a render machine and we have more and more work in 4K, Multicam 4K, and Cinema 4D renders with the idea to expand to Autodesk. We work in Mac predominantly, but are also looking at custom-built PC systems. So, any info along these lines would be greatly appreciated. Just trying to understand if Adobe is keeping up with hardware and, if not, how current their software is in the world of video. I understand Cinema 4D is another world, but we often use Lite (included with Adobe) and the full version, so folks using Adobe may have some insight there as well. My thanks, Susan

server NAS, Rendering and other tasks on one server
RAKW posted a topic in Servers, NAS, and Home Lab
I wrote a very long post and got auto logged out. Now I'm pissed Short story: We (company I work in) want a server to take care of a few tasks. I’m not an it guy, I’m a graphics/A/V guy. My boss wants to buy a machine rather than me to build one (and there’s no discussion, I know… but I can’t do anything about it). But I’m free to run whatever software I want so at least I have that. I need: NAS to archive event coverage (audio video photo). I'm thinking about running a RAID6. It's not about speed, we're on gigabit anyways. It's about having everything in one place and not losing data when a drive dies (I know that’s not a backup). We’re using usb drives now and it make me wanna die. Copying over night from client machines is fine. I don't need anything fancy, simple shares will do. Thinking on running samba on debian, still reading into that. How much Horsepower does a NAS need? We’re talking gigabit speeds but huge files (20gb+). Does the raid card do all the magic? How much ram will I need? Render Box Running Windows 7 or 10 as well as Adobe Media Encoder to render Premiere and After Effects projects and upload to YouTube overnight/weekend to free client machines doing other stuff. A CPU (if it can be fitted into the machine could speed things up a lot). Windows + Quadcore + 16 gigs of ram + dedicated GPU (maybe?) Webserver For digital Signage, right now we’re running of the server that hosts our website and everything’s publicly available. Ubuntu server + Lamp will do, one core, 10 clients at max, needs zero to no power. Unifi Controller We’re an event space and run a couple of UNFI UAP PROS for different wireless networks (office, tech, public). The controller runs on Ubuntu Server and is currently running on an ancient I3 with 2gigs of ram no problem. Ubuntu server + Unifi, one core, 4-8 gigs of ram just in case, will need vlan support on the nic So basicly I’m stuck with whatever IBM, DELL, HP and others have to offer. I think the whole gpu thing is sort of impossible since it needs external power which might not be available, height might be a problem and also server tend to not have that many pcie slots; I need 1 for a raid card, one for a quad nic (multiple vms will be in completely different networks) and a double slot for a gpu. Also I need a host to run the vms on. I don’t have thousands of dollars to spend on licences for a supervisor so something open source or in the price range of unraid would be pretty cool. We’ll likely be running two physical cpus and 32-64 gigs of ram. Can you recommend me on what to look for? Can all of this run on one machine? (It’s not gonna be maxed out all the time, the render box will collect a lot of dust and we’re just a team of 3 people accessing the NAS. The wifi controller and the webserver don’t need that much power anyways. -
Hi, I'm having a problem where the current version of Adobe Media Encoder CC refuses to utilize my EVGA GTX970 FTW graphics card to encode/render footage. I have it set to use Cuda and I know that Media Encoder should be able to use a GTX970, because Ed used one when testing GPUs in their render machine. When rendering, my GPU usage sits at about 0.5-3% and my CPU peaks. I have no idea why it's not working. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. In case it's relevant, here's my setup. Hey Guys. I've just bought my new computer and i'm using After Effects CC 2015 and Media Encoder CC 2015 for my YouTube projects. My specs are: CPU: i7 6700K. GPU: GTX 1070 RAM: 16GB of DDR4 2400Mhz SSD: Samsung 850 Pro 512GB. HHD: Western Digital Caviar Black 2TB. System: Windows 10 Pro 64bit External effects used: Trapcode & Sound Keys & Twitch Project File: http://www.filedropper.com/trapempireproject Basically my old computer was very very slow, had a GTX 210 i think, an i5 750 and a really slow HHD. it took me hours to render videos that other people rendered in less then 40 minutes and i got sick and tired of it and invested in a ultra computer for gaming and rendering. But to my surprise this computer is actually performing worse then what other people told me their computers perform with lesser (lot lesser) specs. I can't figure out if something is wrong with my AE or system in general or are my expectations too high and the performance im receiving is right on the dot of what should be and is good. This project file is the project i am trying to render with Adobe Media Encoder and After Effects (same render time with both). It takes me 2 and a half hours to render this project. Also when i preview render in after effects it gives me a 1-2 seconds of real time and then goes into not real time preview rendering 15 fps out of 60 with the quarter quality and 1-2 fps on full quality. So i'm really confused. Please if somebody can, download this project file and render it on your computer and tell me how long it takes you and if something is wrong with my pc tell me how i can improve it to get the best render time possible ! My Render settings are: H.264 60FPS VBR 1 10-12 bit-rate Use Maximum Render Quality
