Hello, I'm new here. Did you have a game growing up that you loved playing and it doesn't work with your current OS? It doesn't work with a virtual machine? (if you even know how to make a virtual machine) If you said yes you're in the same boat I'm in. The (fake) PC Master Race always says this to me "Ah just slap a Virtual Machine and you should be set" or "PCs are far more backwards compatible than consoles". I'm not trying to start another war but there are two problems with the above statements. ---If a computer is "the ultimate backwards compatible machine" shouldn't it be able to run without VM? (I tried compatibility mode and the surface options) ---If I'm not Part of the PC Master race that can perform dark magic, is installing a VM a wise move? (pain in the butt to fix if things go wrong for someone with little skill) I was thinking is it possible that the PC Master race can learn something from the Console Clan? Why not make a Windows XP "Console"? Think about it; Updates won't be needed or a large graphics card. So it could be quite thin. Some may be asking why not just buy an old PC? It will not be a small form factor not to mention the big power draw. I started pondering why not take a laptop and convert it to a "Windows XP Machine" I was wondering is it possible? I'd like to be able to put it under my TV. What does Linus the Wizzard think? It would make for a cool and creative episode. Most Importantly what do you guys think? The games in question; Lego Rock Raiders Lego Island Lionel Train Town there are others but I can't get them off the top of my head. My system; Ryzen 1600 Mini ITX Gigabyte AB350N- GAMING WIFI EVGA GTX1050 Ti Windows 10

Hi, I've being working on trying to get my two display to work together more efficiently. My displays are in to different rooms. I use my monitor for work and competitive gaming at higher refresh rate and the other is a TV in my living room which I use for watching movies and occasional gaming with mates, family etc. So far I've been putting my games into windowed border less mode so I can switch them between each display using the windows 10 hotkey. I'm just wanting to get some answers or advice to make the best possible experience between using both displays. Such as, Software, settings and if it has a impact on performance in games. Cheers.

Hi everyone! This the X99 Xeon Master race, a resource for everyone with X99 systems using E5 series Xeons, or those looking to get an X99 system. I am calling this a subsection of the XCMR started by @Zando Bob, @WhisperingKnickers, @asand1, @Ground, and a few others specifically for X58. Their discussion can be found here as the General X58 Xeon/i7 discussion and I would highly recommend you check them out. For this starting post, I will go into some details about how I got into X99 and the inspiration to create this post, who is welcome here (spoiler alert: pretty much everyone who is interested), and my take on why X99 may or may not be a good option for you. So, let's start! Inspiration So a few days ago, I set up my X99 PC as a secondary machine using an X99 deluxe and a Xeon I got off of ebay. I will include the full story in the spoiler below in case you are interested, but it is long, so you have been warned. Anyway, when I was setting it up, I noticed all kinds of quirks with X99 that made it very dissimilar and unique compared to other platforms that came before and after it (X58, X79, X299). The overclocking method was different, new technologies had been introduced, and some other stuff. I found this very complicated to wrap my head around, and researching it just made me more confused. But how does this relate to my inspiration for this post? Well, as I mentioned before, the General X58 Xeon discussion was my main inspiration for this. I saw the way people were discussing their Xeon overclocks and what methods they used to achieve it and I thought to myself - “Wouldn’t it be great if there was a community of experienced X99 Xeon overclockers that I could talk to?” So that’s exactly why I am trying to start, but instead of Xeon overclockers specifically, just anyone who wants to talk about X99/is interested in it. Who is welcome here? As I just said, my goal is for this to just be a resource for anyone who is interested in X99 and/or E5 xeons that work with it. You do not by any means have to own an X99 PC or a Xeon for it. I will, of course, as the title suggests, accept discussions about i7’s too, as I imagine the majority of those with X99 PC’s in the first place probably bought i7’s for it. Also, when I say X99, I am really referring to most LGA 2011-3 platforms, so C612 counts too. Why X99? Actually, X99 might not be the best option for most people. I would not recommend it as an alternative to X370 or Z370, rather as an alternative for X299 or X399, especially X299. At the moment, X99 is a good option for those looking for the quad-channel memory and increased PCI-e lanes that X299 offers, but don’t want to pay the premium Intel is setting for it. Newegg and other sites are clearing out inventory of a lot of X99 boards, and as a result, you can get them for the price of an-entry level Z370, like I did. These boards still have a lot of the features X299 boards have: NVMe m.2 support, USB 3.1. Gen2, and RGB on the second generation of X99 if that’s your thing. CPUs prices are decent, but there are no Xeons for insanely cheap like X58 and its famous X5650 for $20. You can, however, get a 14-core 2.2ghz ES E5-2695 V3 for $350 on ebay for example, not bad considering the cheapest X299 14-core costs about 4 times as much. So what’s bad about this? Well, the low clock speed of most X99 Xeons hinder it in single-threaded tasks compared to other platforms like Coffee Lake or Ryzen, making those a better option for the money. It also isn’t a very viable option for a used rig in the traditional sense, like X58 is, due to the higher cost of both the motherboard and CPU, and the increasing price of DDR4. But I still think there is something to be said about the insane multithreaded goodness that can be had for cheap compared to new offerings from Intel or AMD. So that’s all I have for now. I hope everyone can find a use out of this discussion! Also, sorry for the long post. I just kind do that sometimes

So for all readers who have a low end variant of the GTX 1080 (includes the FE cards fyi), post your maximum overclocks and temps down below. Thought I'd create this for lolz since I won a Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! Edition (edition not the extreme), card's awesome for 1440P (way better than my previous 1060). Though when overclocking, I can't even hit 2ghz at stock volts, and memory maxes out at 200-250mhz+ offset (still have to pinpoint exactly where artifiacting starts). 1080 AMP! Edition 79C 1961MHz Core 10.5 Gbps VRAM

So I currently got Sennheiser HD-201 and previously had Creative Fatal1ty Gamer Headset. When I have them for like 30-60+ minutes they hurt my ear (more specifically my left hear). Any work-around for this? I am not sure if I have big ear(s) or what the problem is here..

So I'm in the market for a new mechanical keyboard to take to school to use cos I can't stand the crappy membrane keyboards so I need some help finding a keyboard with Cherry MX Browns or Clears with o-rings or some other dampening thing pre installed because I want that nice tactile feel without everyone complaining about it being to loud because I'll mainly be using it when I'm in school in Computer Science or when I'm doing prep in school and it has to be a ten keyless so it's more portable, thanks. EDIT: Doesn't necessarily need o rings and ten keyless is a must.

I am building a new PC, I already planned out my CPU and GPU. CPU: Intel Pentium Processor G3258 http://www.amazon.com/Intel-Pentium-Processor-G3258-BX80646G3258/dp/B00KPRWAZQ/ref=lh_ni_t?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER Going to overclock it to 4.7 Ghz GPU: Zotac GTX 560 I need some advice on what mobo, RAM and PSU I should use with the GPU and CPU. Keep in mind, this will not be my personal build, I will be selling it. So I want the best bang for my buck. Need the build to be under $350.00

Ok So my friend needs help, he posted this on teksyndicate just then, he hasn't gotten any replies yet which to me seems odd (seeing im on here most of the time) Here is the thread post contents Criteria/aim/want Has to run planetside 2 on max (includes GPU PhysX I have a knack for this game and my laptop barely runs it) Runs most new games at a minimum of 30FPS at high to max (by max I mean Ultra) Must be flexible ( By flexible I mean able to be easily upgraded in the future with no conflicts) Budget 500 but it can go slightly over All money goes to the rig not the mouse monitor etc Able to take to lan partys might add more criterias' later but this is a basic layout Random side notes that might make me slightly more happier (Not too important) I don't know why but I have a knack for Intel Asus and Nvidia stuff. Doesn't really need a DVD drive I can get it from an old rig Hardware able to last Might add more side notes TekSyndicate thread link https://teksyndicate.com/forum/build-pc/500-gaming-computer-near-next-gen-strength/163575#comment-1544717 Thanks.

1 of Lord Gaben's disciples shuts down "next-gen" before it even begins Seeing Linus referred to as one of "Lord Gaben's" disciples makes me imagine him in a cloak in a stone chamber lighting candles, lol.

Hey guys, I thought it would be interesting to discuss why some of us converted from console to the PCGMR. My story begins after the PSN hack. I was bored out of my mind, even with the games I could play offline. Sick of hearing announcements that PSN was still dead, annoyed by the simple fact that Sony stored a fuckload of vital information which was then stolen which lead to many people cancelling their credit and debit cards. So when PSN came back on, I was "greeted" by some pretty shitty incentives for coming back; launch title games for free... "Yay" I thought. "Free games everyone already has. What about the people who already have these, fuck them right? I guess they don't need any real incentive of their own...". Yet, I still played on. I began to notice how much I had spent on DLC, it was mostly LittleBigPlanet stuff and trust me that game had a lot of DLC and I had nearly all of them. A year later, I was on holiday in Cornwall. I was bought an iPad for "work" by my Dad but I mostly used it for other things when I was in Cornwall because even though there was a lot to do in Cornwall, sometimes the best thing to do to kill the time is have the always overheating iPad 3 on my lap. So when I was on Amazon I noticed a £400 gaming PC - This got me interested. By now I realize that the machine was fairly shitty, what with an FX-4100 and some 6xxx or lower GPU and 4GB of RAM so I carried on searching. This is how I truly got interested in PC gaming. I found myself looking at over people's builds and building videos for hours on end. I ended up talking about it for a while too. I would often ask my friends if they too were curious about PC gaming but alas, they were console peasants and still thought that Consoles were better despite my already existing technical knowledge. Eventually I got around to talking it over with my Dad who then gave me a budget of £850 because my PC was (as you probably said to your parents) for Occasional games, work and programming. So that's how I got the build in my sig. But that's not quite the end of the story. When I finally got all my parts in December - My 660ti, 8GB Corsair Vengeance LP, 1TB HDD, Sony disk drive, 650w CoolerMaster gaming series PSU and MSI Z77A-GD55 motherboard, I started assembly. When everything was finally set up, my PC would start booting up and then it would suddenly die before booting up and dying again. A while later I gave my PC to one of my Nan's friends who was an ex-police technician who managed to figure out that the motherboard was faulty. I was disheartened but he reassured me that I did a great job at building the PC. So we sent the motherboard to MSI who then claimed that we scratched it; they sent us pics of scratches that weren't even there before. We disputed this and even though we had no pictures to prove that we didn't scratch anything, MSI still went ahead and did their own investigation. A week later, we get an e-mail from management that even though the investigation "failed", they would give us a free replacement as a gesture of goodwill. So I build it all over again, hook up my PC to my TV and even though everything works, the TV was blank. So I had to get myself a monitor. Thankfully, the same ex-police technician had a spare LG Flatron monitor and that was what I used up until November 2013. That's how I became Master Race.

Do you guys name your builds and how do you decide on the name? My first (personal, fully custom) build is called Carl. It's Carl because the theme color of the build is blue and blue in Latin is "caeruleum" and that just reminded me of Carl, I've also really loved that name since I watched Llamas with hats. What are you guys' names and stories?

Hi, i have bought an acer x34 about a year ago and am annoyed by the huge stand that it has, so I was thinking of getting a mount, I would rather get a table mount than a wall mount because I don't wanna mount my monitor on the wall. I have found some great monitor table mounts like the amazon basics but the maximum monitor length is 32" but the x34 is 34" and I'm worried about getting that mount. Does anyone know a good mount with height, swivel, and side to side movement adjustability taht supports 34"? Please help! thank you!
