I want to upgrade to both AM5 and DDR5 but don't know what motherboard is best for value. I don't need bells and whistles like Wifi, Bluetooth, RGB, Ect. I really only need a decent amount of sata ports, and least 2 M.2/NVME ports. I don't have a massive budget and I already have to save for the RAM and CPU, so I ask you legendary LTT veiwers and users what the best value motherboard is that meets this criteria.

After upgrading my GPU I've realised that my current CPU and ram is massively bottlenecking it so I'm looking at upgrading. looking at psu options ive noticed that the options for them in the uk have massively decreased and most have a much higher cost. I currently have a corsair cx550f which is a good psu, just not enough watts if i want to upgrade; does anybody know why this psu line has been discontinued.

As many reviewers mentioned in their reviews of the new NVidia RTX 4070 (NON-Ti) yesterday, each generation of new graphics cards has seen a rise in pricing and I have an idea as to why that is, and unfortunately if this theory pans out, things will only get worse from here... You see, Moore's law has been steadily dying off for quite some time now. Its not completely dead yet, but the advancements in computing horsepower per dollar have significantly slowed down. Yes, the last few generations of Graphics Cards and CPUs have shown rather large jumps in performance, but they have also seen quite large jumps in pricing. There is a reason for this that is unavoidable, allow me to explain: You see, Moore's law is slowing down because we are approaching the absolute physical limits of what traditional silicon transistors can actually do. Years ago when TSMC began work on the 5nm process node now found in current generation hardware, an article came about that stated there could be major delays with manufacturing functional 5nm cores because of some serious engineering challenges. The article stated that TSMC engineers had even spoken about the possibility of 5nm not being feasible at all. This was because they were concerned that the transistors were so small and so dense that it would create a "nuclear core" thermal run-away scenario where cores are producing so much heat so fast with this density that a standard IHS and standard cooling solution just wouldn't be able to remove the heat as fast as the cores create the heat. This would create a situation in which exotic cooling would be required just to cool consumer desktop PC cores. To be honest, in a way, their prediction and concerns are starting to show some truth to them. We have Ryzen 7000 and Intel 13th Gen that both run so hot at full load that they essentially throttle by default, "targeting" their TJMax and "boosting until they hit the limit". Obviously we enthusiasts aren't dumb enough to fall for the marketing. We know well that the cores have simply gotten too hot and maximum performance now has to be throttled to suit each end-users cooling solution. Thats what it really is. Even a 360mm AIO CANNOT properly cool an Intel i9-13900K without some sort of modification or advantage such as direct-die cooling. Properly cool meaning keeping the CPU under 90-95°C during all-core 100% load workloads at default settings. Besides the thermal issues with continuing to shrink transistors ever more, there is the sheer amounts of incredibly expensive technology and engineering involved to even get transistors this small, and the yields aren't great either. Some people across internet forums have begun to speculate that for 3nm and smaller transistors to actually function correctly and not run into nuclear run-away thermal issues, we will be forced to step away from traditional silicon transistors and switch to a more exotic technology - something like carbon nanotubes for example. And I believe they may just be correct in that assumption seeing how many issues there are already - 600 watt GPUs and Flagship CPUs so hot, modifications are required just to keep them under TJMax. So seeing as were are knocking on the door of what is physically possible with standard silicon no matter how advanced the manufacturing process gets, it only makes sense that prices would rise as we reach the very edge and the R&D + engineering required to make further improvements just gets exponentially more expensive and more difficult to pursue. It also explains how the last few generations of hardware just keep getting more power hungry and run hotter. Now a lot of you might point out the fact that the absolute monster that is the RTX 4090 doesn't actually run that hot. Well guys, why do you think this generation of flagship GPUs have coolers the size of actual bricks you use to build houses? Meanwhile, CPU coolers can't really get any bigger because of case compatibility. Imagine Noctua trying to make a 250mm tall version of the D-15, that would be absolutely rediculous. How about an 800mm (200mm x 4) radiator for liquid cooling? It just wouldn't make any sense. So in conclusion, I feel that MSRPs will continue to spiral out of control until the majority of people simply stop upgrading. Then some time can be taken to focus on pure efficentcy and lowering prices. I don't even want to think about how expensive the first carbon nanotube-based CPUs will be. Can you imagine the equivalent of a modern 8-Core typical CPU that costs over $1000? A Ryzen 7700X that costs as much as a flagship GPU? That is the day that PC advancement for the general populace essentially comes to an end for a while. So what do you guys think about the situation on pricing and what do you think will happen in the future? Makes for some pretty interesting thoughts, that much is for sure...

Anyone notice how the price for used steam controllers has been climbing, or how the prices for NIB/factory sealed ones are going for the hundreds typically? Do you imagine this is foreshadowing a possible return (not necessarily by Valve, but by someone who realizes the value of a controller that acts more like traditional mouse and keyboard and its appreciation by the market at large)? Maybe it's just the fact that it's discontinued, but it's interesting nonetheless.

Hi all, I'm in the market for a new main monitor for gaming/content creation. I recently purchased an EVGA 1080ti Founder Edition, and I'd like to upgrade my display accordingly. As we all know the monitor market isn't exactly thriving at the moment, and a 144hz refresh rate at 1440p res can get expensive. (Especially if you go the ASUS route). Really, all I want the higher hz for, is CSGO. However with how terrible my town's internet is, I'm worried the "competitive edge" would be contradicted with frequent rubberbanding, packet loss etc. But I REALLY want a competitive edge. However I have this guilty conscious that it would be enthusiast sin to purchase a 1080ti, and NOT get a higher res display. Just looking for opinions today, and hoping for a nudge in either direction. My budget as it stands is only about $200-$300 (of course I could wait for more paychecks but we all know how that is.) Opinions and personal preferences are encouraged. Thanks for reading! -JimmyGio

Hi there, my name is Kilian. Im currently studying 3D Art and Animation and im part of a project group called "Project 0814". We are a group of 5 people from the university and we want to start a indie company and develop our first game. By doing this survey we hope to get an in depth view of the current gaming market and extracting a potential consumer group. So if you're interested, bored or have time please check out our survey hosted by Google Forms! https://goo.gl/forms/4FiJwM5PbA3tlCd12 The survey takes approximately 5 - 10 Minutes and is completely anonymously but you can give us your e-mail if you want to hear from us in the future. And if this survey post is against the forum rules please delete but I couldn't find any reasons by reading the rules. Thank you in advance, Kilian

So, today on one of my many flea-market escapades, I came across a big box of assorted cables, there was all your standard things, DVI cables, VGA cables, power cords, SATA cables etc., but just as I was getting to the end, a strange USB connector peaked out at the bottom of the box, and I immediately recognised it from Linus' video from a few years back, I dug down to the bottom of the case in a rush, only to realise, that the cable was still on the spool, and that it had never been unwound from said spool, after inspecting it a bit more, it turns out to be the 50 meter version (165ft) which at the time of release was priced at just over $600. ? So, now I have a 50 meter optical USB 3 cable, that I'm not quite sure what to do with, but I'm just stoked to get a chance to see it in real life! ? While this might not be my biggest or craziest "find" ever, it surely is one of the coolest! What crazy and off finds have you guys made in unexpected places? (Flea-markets, Dumpster-diving, junkyards etc.) ?

Sure we all know Apple loves to be all exclusive with their apps, but what if their phone market share went to less than 10% world wide? Could we see Apple taking the software approach like Blackberry & Microsoft? That makes me wonder, if Apple were struggling would they port their apps over with adds in them to gain a profit from those who do not purchase their devices? What do all of you think? After seeing Huawei passing Apple and with Xiaomi on their butts Apple may in the future lose their apps and end up like the Blackberry & Windows phone? Not to mention the increasing prices of the iPhone due to what Donald the Trump plans!

Hey there! I haven't been on the forum for quite some time but I figured I may find someone on here who know how to design a website scraper that gets me specifically the intercity bus data for the US from the website checkmybus.com! I am looking into it as it is similar to the ones for airline industries, I actually need the data for my Master thesis and am willing to pay for the data or the program if it is in accordance to what I need! Best regards, The Cow that never sleeps!

Hello guys real quick question. As all you know that amds gpus are used in consoles and imacs so i just been wondering what is the actual market share compared to nvidias shouldn,t they outsell Nvidias gpu by a huge margin ?

Okay. First off, I want to start by saying that this is not a hate post. I'm merely annoyed by the fast evoloution of the cpu market. The context: in July 2017 I built my first pc. Before that I only had prebuilts and laptops. This pc has an i7-6800k, 16gb of ram, x99 strix and a 1070. back then it was a high end system with 6 cores / 12 threads. The system itself cost around 2000$. In July, a 8 core processor cost around 300$ more, so it wasn't an option for me. And then AMD came along with the ryzen cpus, intel joined the hype train and now the i7-8700k is the most popular cpu out there. I'm not salty or angry, I'm just annoyed that back then I was so happy to be one of the few lucky people with a 6c/12th machine, and now it's just normal... i know a cpu benchmark Site isn't the best comparison, but in multicore speeds my cpu was in 4th place in the world in July (after the 6950x, 6900k and 6850k.) now it's on the 27th place. After 9 months!! that would theoretically mean my cpu is at the lower end market by 2020... and there are even mobile cpus better than mine right now... of course you could say: "my i7-7700k isn't better as well", yes but that wasn't a 6 core monster back then... why does the market have to be like this?

1. Samsung = 31% 2. Apple = 25.4% 3. Oneplus, Oppo & Vivo = 9.5%+ 4. Honor & Huawei = 7.4%+ 5. Xiaomi = 6.3% 6. Lenovo, Medion & Motorola = 4.5%+ 7. LG = 3.4% 8. Sony = 2.8% 9. OK. So Nvidia and AMD have just released their new lines of Graphics cards, Pascal and Polaris. Both of which provide huge leaps in performance and efficiency. BUT: The MSRP for these cards is 50 to 100 $ lower than the prices they are actually being sold at. QNS; 1. Why are these cards so expensive right now? 2. How long before the prices normalise? (A.K.A When will an RX480 actually be 200$) 3. Have you bought a Polaris or Pascal card for Desktop / Laptop?

I might be a little selfish for this topic but I need help from you guys to answer this question for my business assignment. What is AMD doing in order to win over the market giants Intel and Nvidia? What strategies or factors are they using to win and how they are using it? Also give examples when possible. I am in quite a pinch so it would be great if you guys could help me out.

Who has biggest and smallest market share? ASUS, Biostar, EVGA, Gainward, Gigabyte, MSI, PowerColor, Sapphire, XFX & Zotac (and any I may have forgotten) And AMD + Nvidia`s card also but it is not as important, and I am not asking about GPU but GRAPHICS CARDS!

I know supply has been borderline decent in countries such as the UK, but at least for me in the US, GTX 1080 demand is really high and supply has been really low. I back-ordered an EVGA GTX 1080 FTW on Newegg about 2.5 weeks ago and still no inventory. I contacted EVGA on its stock and they said they're making shipments about once a week. I'm just wondering if anyone in NA has been able to get their hands on a board partner card yet that's not an FE.

In Steam's Community Market, if I buy an Armor Set? Will it stay in tacked? Since I planning on buying one and then sell it after a while for "profit". The reason why I am asking this is because I bought a full set before from the Store of Dota 2 and it was not in a full set. It was split into each armor pieces. So I am worried if it turns into several pieces and I won't be able to sell it back as it was when I bought it. But am nor sure if it applies too in the Community Market. Edit: Fixed some spelling?

In news that could be filed under "not surprising", Apple has gone on and earned itself an outrageous market cap that is a first for a US company and they've even managed to outdo Exxon Mobile. Let that sink in. A tech company has blasted past a OIL COMPANY for top position in the capitalism food chain. Thats just nuts. Of course, Saudi Aramco is private but I wouldn't be shocked to see Apple blow past 1 trillion in the near future, with the way the industry is going. This kind of growth is just staggering, fuelled by every corner of the market. Enthusiasts, fanboys, average joes. Greed definitely is good for the bottom line and Apple seems pretty happy to continue this. I'll be honest, I always thought the bubble wold've burst a long time ago and they would "settle" but I wouldn't have predicted this at all. http://www.investmentnews.com/article/20150211/FREE/150219987/apples-market-cap-tops-700-billion-a-milestone-for-u-s-companies

So if you play FIFA, you might know about Team Of The Year (TOTY) being released on January 12th. And if you play FIFA, you also know people go ham on packs when TOTY comes out because the players sell for a crazy amount of coins... SO-- When people open an immense amount of packs, 95% of the players are going to be listed on the market. Prices go down, my squad rating goes up (if you catch my drift). Not to mention that EA servers will also go down multiple times... But my question is how bad is the crash going to be this year? In FIFA 14 when the TOTY was released, I remember most players went down in price like 50%... My question is - Is it worth saving my coins for an additional two weeks and waiting for the crash, or should I spend my extra 1/2 mil on like Robben for my Bundesliga team? Thanks -JAB
