hi im trying to setup a zyxel gs2200-24 managed switch when i tag the ports for vlan 1 its networked but no internet connection when i try to use web configurator 192.168.1.1 it wont connect all ip address are still 192.168.0.xx using virgin media hub3 as router for managing dhcp ip and also trying to find the firmware so i can make sure its all factory fresh only able to access via the console port to serial on pc using putty to access first time using managed switch all help appreciated set up as Hub3 /router V ethernet to switch port 24 V pcs on port 1-3 huwawei wirless on port 23 ports 1 and 2 are work pcs so was going to put them onto vlan 2 so work couldnt see my home lan ftp server port 9 so the way i see it port 1-2 vlan 2 port 3-23 vlan 1 port 24 vlan 1&2 am i right and can anyone help thankyou

Hey guys, need some help here as I have a personal Laptop/PC which I've had for 5 years which runs Windows 10 20H2 and my friend sorted it for me yesterday as there was updates he did for me and now I cant change my desktop background or settings on my laptop. Having a bit of problem with windows update. My download is stuck at 100% for 3 hours now. I've tried restarting to redownload the update. But it got stuck again at Downloading - 100%. Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem? Also, in my windows update screen "Some settings are managed by your organization" this message is being shown. When I click "View configured update policies" it says 'Exclude drivers from Windows quality updates'. I don't know why this is showing. Can anyone tell me how can I fix it? Or is there any need to fix this? Since I don't want windows to update my drivers.

Hello Me and my friends are planning to do a lan party in a few weeks we are with 17 people and we are looking into buying a switch together for the lan party. The thing is what we don't know is what switch would be the best for own needs a managed or a unmanaged switch. We will use the network pretty heave because some of us will be streaming it and some maybe need to download games or updates there. We have a prize range from 100-200 euro I was looking into NETGEAR GS724T and the NETGEAR JGS524. Thanks in advance for the help and if I have anymore questions be sure to ask

I have a D-link DGS-1100-08 Managed switch.. and I need to connect to it. I have tried everything. Neither the webpage nor the SmartConsole will work. I have set windows's and or the router's IP to 10.90.90.1.. still nothing. Any help would be incredibly appreciated!

so i have this micronet switch : Micronet SP6108WS TLDR: when i set egress to be tagged on my up-link native vlan traffic doesn't pass if set egress to untagged on the switch`s uplink tagged traffic doesn't pass... i have setup up a vlan(vlanID:50) for my guest network... the thing is switch is either just passing my vlan 50 and no native vlan (ie untagged) traffic or the other way around... here is switch vlan settings:(port 8 is uplink to pfsense and port 1 goes to my AP, ive set port5 to be on vlan50 to test if it works) if i set PVID table like this: only vlan 50 traffic will pass (ie port 5 will get a dhcp address and internet + my guest network wifi which also on vlan50) but other ports will lose access (for example port 2 is gonna lose its access to network and can only ping the switch itself if i manually set the ip on client basically it cant talk to the pfsense anymore) if PVID is set like this: native vlan (untagged traffic ) works but vlan50 would lose access... there is also this thing in the manual: from what i understand this switch behavior would be "normal" if the above table looked like this: do note when i connect my ap directly to pfsense`s lan both guest and home wifi get ip and internet access....(so the issue is not my access point`s config) i tried many different config combination on the switch with no result i just wanna be sure its the switch`s problem not my config... some additional info: my lan : 192.168.0.0 vlan 50 : 192.168.50.0 switch ip : 192.168.0.4 AP:xiaomi r3 running openWRT thanks in advance..

I am in a complete confusion ?. My situation is this: I have a Gigabit router, and need a switch to attach 7 devices. So I went on amazon and ordered a Switch (Netgear GS108E), which is 'managed'. My worry is this: if I connect the switch (without DHCP enabled) to the router, will two devices connected to the switch communicate at ~100MB/S (assuming I have good cables)? O the other hand, if I decided to enable DHCP on the switch (it theory it should guarantee full gigabit) will I then be able to forward ports on some of the devices wire to the switch? Because it seems like there are not NAT options for the switch, which makes it useless for me ( I need open ports on the devices attached to the switch). PS I do not have the switch yet, but I was hoping to get an head start from you guys! Thank you!

I am planning to start up a really very small server at home which is just a nano-itx board and some hard disks. The problems I am facing is: 1. Can I just connect the "server" to an unmanaged switch which cannot be configured or I need a manageable switch and port forward my server? 2. My ISP gives me dynamic IP, can I host VPN server, mail server, etc? 3. If I really need a manageable switch, please suggest some which are not expensive and space saving (I don't need those with 24 ports, just 4 to 8 is enough). Does anyone know of a company creating managed 1UP servers (or blades, god forbid) that are based on a coffee lake processor? We have a legacy build environment with OLD school make that is single threaded. NO ONE wants to tease apart this monster to make it multi-threaded and it takes over 4 hours to build. In the short term we want to throw cycles at it. BUT I can not find a company building boards with Coffee Lake and 4.7 GHz processors with a managed back end. PCs won't cut it according to my data center managers, because they can not manage them with their data center software. If I have to, I will buy PCs, and put them under people's desks, but I would rather do the right thing and put servers in the data center. Any suggestions?

Hey all I think this is the right place to put this thread, but feel free to move if iv put it in the wrong place. If you know of Ubiquity's managed wifi, and zero handoff, allowing for roaming between access points without loosing connection. Alot of other WiFi controllers have similar ideas, cisco etc. The common factor is all the access points are controlled by a central controller which manages all the AP's Now my question I know this isnt the most optimal way of doing things, so please leave out the comments of "Dont use R-Pi's" or "Why not buy one of these..." Im doing this as a learning experiment and for a bit of fun. I know how to turn a raspberry pi into an access point, using a usb wifi and onboard ethernet, and how to set it so DHCP is managed by the network and not the R-PI But what im looking into now is a way to set a few pi's up and use them as a managed network with a central control pi managing the roaming, ssid's passwords etc. Iv tried to google it, but everything I find is talking about how to setup the Rpi as a wifi ap, or setting it up as a wifi repeater using two usb wifi adaptors. Which is not what im wanting. Any input or direction would be great. OR if you have no idea what im going on about, let me know and I can try re-explain myself. Thanks in advance

Hi, I have been planning a home network for a while and from the start I have had the Netgear GS716Tv3 in mind at about £87 ($125.35) but now my parent have said the network is to much and I have been trying to water it down but I have not gone into changing the switch. It needs to be 16 ports, gigabit, managed (L3Lite/smart) and web managed (or other UI not CLI). Thanks in advanced, Max

Ok, so I have a question that involves both network switches and music. I have a soundboard and want to use 2 switches between the stage and soundboard to send and receive audio. Can I use the sfp port with a fiber line to run from one switch to the other and then in the management utility of the switches essentially mirror the ports? Basically I want to combine all signal into that fiber line instead of running 24 separate cat-5 lines. I don't believe this should be an issue, but I wanted to make sure it's possible before buying the equip. Thanks!

So I was given a Dell PowerConnect 5548 managed 48-port GbE (plus 2x 10GbE SFP+ ports) switch. It's brand spankin' new, never been unpacked or used, and is still in the box from Dell (it still had the packing slip and everything). I peeped the service tag on Dell's website and it's under warranty until April 2041. Wikipedia says the guts of it are Marvell tech. I really don't have a need for it. I mean, I could come up with a reason to use it, but just to play around with more than anything, though. Honestly, I'd rather get some cash out of it -- and give someone that actually needs it a decent deal (and get myself a fancy new video card and maybe some groceries, but mainly a new video card because who needs to eat, yea?). Problem is, I can't gauge what they go for, money wise. Prices on eBay vary wildly from $700 (used) to $2k (new). Amazon third-party sellers aren't any better. Apparently, Dell has moved on to newer and shinier things, I sure as shit can't find a listing for it on their Business shop site. Does anybody have an idea of what kind of price range these things go for? TIA

Evening ladies and gents, We have recently rewired our apartment because the previous owners' concept left a bit to be desired (Cat 5 cable instead of Cat 5e, and the wiring scheme was not very suited to our purposes). For the most part it is as of now a star topology, with the exception of our living room setup (doesn't make sense to lay a separate cable for every device) and the one room which is too far away from the central switch for it to make sense to lay separate wires for the printer and PC. Besides devices dropping in and out via WiFi, there's the occasional laptop which would get connected at various spots, but for the most part, our network looks something like this: The E4200 has served us quite well so far, but at the moment the central switch is just a non-managed Netgear GS108. It is a perfectly fine device for hooking up a printer or a laptop etc., but for this job it is (in my opinion)not very well suited. Therefore, I have been contemplating upgrading to something a bit more beefy (for example something from the Cisco SG300 or SG200 series, though I have not yet made a decision). Questions At the moment, the transfer rates between two machines on the network hover around the 250 Mbit/s mark, which is obviously not all that gigabit-y. None of the machines I have available have great network controllers, so I don't expect utterly phenomenal performance even with the best networking infrastructure. But still, would an upgrade to something like an SG200 or SG300 yield (noticeable) performance benefits? At the moment, the DHCP server function is being performed by the E4200. Would it make sense (again, performance-wise) to buy a switch with integrated DHCP server capability and relegate the E4200 to basically just a WiFi hotspot (maybe I'd still have the internet link come through that for wiring reasons, which I don't expect to affect internal networking performance though)? Or is it not very relevant where the DHCP server sits in the network as long as the main switch is good enough? Note that we're not going to be permanently pushing massive amounts of data from several machines criss-cross around the network, but I do have a few terabytes of data to keep in sync with my backups, for which it would be nice to have a bit more bandwidth than a quarter gigabit per second. Yes, I am aware that there are many other functions that come along with a better switch (the SG300's manual has ~550 pages, after all), and they are not irrelevant to me, however most of that can be looked up in the manuals, as opposed to the questions above. I might upgrade even if there aren't any tangible performance benefits just for those features, but it would be nice to get a bit of a better picture before making the decision.
