Budget (including currency):maybe 1-2k USD Country: US Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: I play 1080p games with an Nvidia G-Sync monitor (240hz refresh rate) and have a 2nd 60hz monitor for other things, video streaming like watching things. I'm not a streamer. Also Discord/socializing and I also mess around with music production. The music production is more of a hobby and not critical. Its just fun to do Other details CPU Ryzen 7 3700X Cooled with an AIO Mobo MSI x470 Gaming Pro Carbon (PCI-E 4.0) Graphics EVGA NVIDIA GTX 1070 FTW ACX 3.0 32GB DDR4 Corsair Max bandwidth DDR4-2132 (1066 MHz) Memory module Part number CMW32GX4M4D3600C18 PSU is a Corsair HX850 So I've been getting an itchy finger to upgrade some PC stuff. I picked up a 2TB NVME Samsung drive for 79 bucks so I'm going to have to go in to install it and I will repaste my CPU. I've really been considering getting an rtx 4070 ti also. I was also taking a look at what was available for the AM4 socket. I hear good things about the Ryzen 5800X3D for gaming but its about $324 currently. I could get the 5800x without the extra cache for a bit over 200 but they are still pulling more wattage (105 watts vs my 65W CPU currently) So I ask the council. Is it worth it to throw money at an older platform, or should I possibly just go with a new motherboard? I would have to buy new memory also so that is a factor, but I would now have access to the AM5 platform. I would like to hear different opinions since I might not realize something that you guys would bring to my attention. Thank you in advance.

First blog: Deciding on tools for my major
Marinatall_Ironside posted a blog entry in JurunceNK's Blog
Welcome to my first blog guys :) If you've viewed my profile already, you may have seen that I'm a college student majoring for video game design. But that also doesn't come with any obstacles that aren't easy to overcome. I need to be able to get the things needed to get my associates degree with a budget of ~$5,700. When I was thinking about "what tools do I really need to make this time swift and easy and that they'll last for a very long time?" When I was looking around on Amazon, I knew that I would need to get books for 3ds Max, Maya, Mudbox, Photoshop, ZBrush, and video game development. Also to add on top of that I would particularly need to grab a powerful-enough desktop or notebook whichever one I can get that will allow me to do some crazy things in those programs because I intend to create a total conversion mod to add to my professional portfolio so that I can land a job at Blizzard Entertainment, starting out as a 3D animator and ascend to become a video game director/developer. Also as a key peripheral that will allow me to do things quickly and easily without having to use the keyboard and mouse all the time, I want to grab myself a Wacom Cintiq 13HD graphics tablet as starters because it has great color accuracy, better drivers, and it's not so big, heavy, and extremely expensive. Okay now to get back on topic on computers, when I was looking on Amazon, I was thinking to myself "should I build a strong workstation, or grab a laptop so that I can do more wherever I'm at?" And those two things narrowed down to "custom workstation or an MSI GT80 Titan SLI?" I know this may get some to say "What?! :o Are you crazy? Are you going to be getting the top-end model which runs at $3,699?" No. I'm looking at the one with only 16GB of RAM because I feel like that should be plenty enough and I also do gaming as well so I also want to have a strong laptop as well so that I can max out games easily because I'm an ultra-settings gamer here. So what is your pick here for a PC? I also want to see what would be the best choice for me here as well so that I can fulfill my dreams. -
I can't make up my mind on a college major and I think the two most likely ones would be Information Technology Management (basically a 2 year in business combined with 2 year in networking/IT) or electrical/computer engineering. I was previously already enrolled in electrical engineering but I hated all the math and physics I had to do and ended up failing by calc 2 and second physics class. I love the idea of creating computer hardware but I hate all the math and physics and I also enjoy working both at a computer but mostly hands on. I don't want a job where I spend 90% of my day on a computer. I'm afraid of just taking the IT route and getting stuck in IT just fixing other peoples problems. I hate dealing with people who don't know what they're talking about and I don't want to live my life being that guy you call when you're office printer stops working. It would give me the hands on job I crave but I fear it would get old really fast. Anyone have any suggestions for choosing my major? Especially if you're in either one of those fields I would love to hear your feedback and to hear about what your day to day life in your job is like.

Teams: G2, EnvyUs, Virtus.Pro, Fnatic, Liquid, FlipSide, FaZe, SK, Natus Vincere, Gambit Gaming, Optic Gaming,North, Mousesports, Astralis, Godsent. My predictions for group stages are Astralis, optic or SK going 3-0; VP, NaVi, and North going 3-1, TLP and Gambit going 3-2; Mouse, HR, FaZe going 2-3; Flipside, Godsent G2 going 1-3; and FNC and nV going 0-3

Backstory: So I'll be graduating with my A.A.S degree in Computer Information Technology in the spring, and my plan is to transfer and get my bachelors from a 4 year degree in the Fall of 2018. I'd like to aim my career towards something a little more specific once I transfer but I'm on the fence about what I want to go into. My three thoughts as of now are (No particular order): Business and Technology Management / Computer Information Systems - I.T. Manager someday Networking Cyber Security I'm not a super huge fan of just coding (for programs/applications) so I didn't go the computer science path. I do enjoy coding though if it's mixed in with other things like if I was to be setting up a server and a switch or firewall (such as CMD, Linux Command Line, Etc.). I very much enjoy messing with servers and distributing workloads and storage. Onto my main question: I'm honestly not sure what Cyber Security consists of, but it sounds very interesting to me. I seem to have a hard time finding the specifics about the job, most of the stuff I come across is just a brief overview and projected job growth. I obviously know that it's purpose is to keep attackers at bay and to test companies security and such, but how is this stuff done? Is it mostly command based? or is it more network and GUI based? How are codes cracked and networks broken into? I've read about hacking challenges but how do you get into stuff like that in the first place? Is it mostly just coding/programming? I'm just curious what courses and such would await me if I did go with a Cyber Security Major. Any websites or videos you guys could point me towards would be much appreciated.

Why Is The Title All Like This? So the first CSGO Major of this year; the first MLG Major; first major with 1 million$ prize pool; first major with 25% of the teams being from NA; and the first Valve Sponsored major in NA begins in less than 24 hours with the match up Nynjas in Pyjamas vs FlipSid3 Tactics (imo one of the best game of the day). Discus the major's results, but please use a Spoiler for scores and stuff. I'll throw in a schedule and links to HLTV; and Map POVs/ The Major website. I need some help deciding on what CPU I want to upgrade to. I am currently using an i7 2600k and I want to upgrade to skylake, I don't know whether I want to get the i7 6700k or i5 6600k for such a lower price. I am primarily using my computer for gaming but every once in a while I do use 3d design programs like blender. Is the 6600k better than my 2600k? Is the 2700k worth the money?

Apple is in talks with six Canadian banks for mobile payment service’s first venture outside the U.S. It is about bloody time that Apple (or the Canadian banks, who tend to have a stick up their butts) got this going in a serious manner. Sure, a November release isn't that great, but its better progress for Canada than any other mobile based system that isn't locked to a carrier. Canada has had mobile payments for a while now, if you were with certain carriers. But that is stupid and dumb. Apple Pay, more so than Google Wallet, was the first real proposition that was carrier agnostic and just worked. Or should, if the banks don't screw this up. The Canadian banks want additional security placed on the system to ensure authenticity of the user who is adding their card to the Apple Pay system, which is actually great, but whether this delays the proceedings who knows, Its not even assured that all 6 banks will make the move. Being able to use Apple Pay however is something I'd switch banks for. When you have any amount of money, switching banks isn't a hassle. I'll transfer over my accounts to the bank that embraces the forward move. TD, I hope you get on board with this. I applaud the idea that I can just use my phone as my payment solution. Most days during work and school, I don't have my wallet on me. I do have my phone. If I can add up my AMEX, MasterCard and debit cards to my phone, I ain't even mad. thats very convenient for me, and I'd argue for a lot of people. Apple is making the push that Google should have made years ago, they should've taken this more seriously. Canada is a contactless payment heaven. I don't remember the last time I actually had to swipe a card. If only the regulatory agencies and banks got with the program already. http://www.wsj.com/articles/apple-pay-plans-to-launch-in-canada-this-fall-1429280816

I'm finishing up my Junior (grade 11) year in high school, so college is one year away. I've been thinking about majors, and I'm not sure what some of them pertain to. I've been a little confused about Computer Software Engineering, Computer Hardware Engineering, and Electrical Engineering. My friend's father is a Computer Software Engineer and he owns a company that creates statistical simulations of engines for motor companies, so I think I have an idea of what that is like. But Computer Hardware Engineering and Electrical Engineering is where I get really mixed up. I sort of want to have an idea of what I'm getting in to. Does anyone have any experience with these fields?

Post at /. Source for image. Well... isn't this a pile of manure. "So, you are saying that if we regulate you correctly, nothing will change? ... So why shouldn't we? Or rather, why should we believe you?" These are the people who took $200 Billion to do these upgrades in 1996, but didn't do them because "Screw consumers, moar money." effectively. How could anyone trust them in this instance? Comments that "get it" from the source: What do you guys think?

Since I got the old gpu (AMD Radeon 6950) and the new power supply (700 watt) from my brother I have been having these problems. Diablo 3 had some fps drops while engaging a big wave of enemies and sometimes my computer had some problems that programs weren't responding. I actually wanted to upgrade my computer for a while and was hoping to fix some of my problems I have been getting (Maybe the gpu was having some problems, because of age?). So I got the: NVIDIA Geforce GTX 760 (MSI), a new motherboard : ASRock B75 Pro3-M (CPUSocket), a new RAM: 8,00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz and a new Hard Drive: 932GB Seagate ST1000DM003-1CH162 (SATA). I kept my CPU: Intel Core i7 2600 @ 3.40GHz and my power supply. Since I have been using this build, my computer kept these problems and it has become even worse after 1-2 months. My league of legends started having really bad problems with having major fps drops to the 0-30 fps, sometimes it froze for a couple of seconds. I have been checking my temp for so far, because it's getting pretty warm in my room, but it never has been to a dangerous lvl and it got checked by some of my friends that have some knowledge about it, the highest my CPU got was about 60 degrees. I have tried to reinstall the client, but nothing helped. I started playing World of warcraft aswell since a week ago and it was impossible for me to play. Fps keeps dropping from the 95 to 0-20. I noticed though when someone lvled up or someone joined somehow that's the point where it freezes. And like I said before my google chrome is acting weird since the beginning of it all, I let a tab on my google chrome sit for an hour and when I go back to it everything starts to freeze. One of the things what is really odd though, some days I don't have problems at all. Everything will run smoothly. I reupdated my drivers from my cpu, gpu, motherboard, etc. I have run benchmarks what seems to be completely fine and it ran smoothly. Since I got my new upgrades I did get Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit. And I have been running tests that burden my computer. Is it possible my CPU is dying? (I already got it for around 3-4 years) Or is it possible my power supply is having problems? Thank you for reading:) Edit: Apperently restarting my pc helps, after playing 2-3 hours it starts lagging again.

Hey everyone. Recently I have been experiencing some major computer lagging. Immediately after turning on the computer, no signs of lag are show but when I go to play some games (Smite). After 1 to 1 1/2 matches when things start getting nasty: Fps drops from 60 Down to 10 and lower and Sound starts to stutter (game sound + Skype call sound). After quitting the game these symptoms sustains. Any kind of sound lags and stutters as well as extremely bad framerate drops making the computer almost unusable. An immediate restart does not fix the issue but if I leave the computer off for a long period of time the problem will go away. These lag issues also seem to be consistent after playing Smite. Also start up time for the computer has been increased I would like to avoid formatting and reinstalling windows because of some big games that I accidentally installed on the SSD I have tried looking for viruses, deleting useless files, uninstalling programmes that I no longer use, registry cleaner and restoring my cpu to its original clock speed My system is... Intel 2600k clocked at 4.5ghz (stock 3.4ghz) Corsair H100i Water Cooler (CPU temps are good) 2x gts 8800 in SLI 16gb Corsair Vengeance Memory Asus P8Z68-V Pro Motherboard Coolermaster Real Power 550w Power Supply OWC SSD (14.5gb free of 111gb) 600gb storage HHD (559gb free) Windows 8 64bit Feel free to ask for any more information. Thanks!
