Valve’s Steam Machine was their first game console, and we’ve got a prototype! But it’s broken… Can we fix it? And if we can, should we, or should we have left it in the past? Donate to Free Geek Twin Cities: https://www.freegeektwincities.org/donate

i would like to have some advice... i would like to have a NAS solution but i can not afford it now.. 1. I got my PC at home that i use for work and i´m thinking if it would be a good idea to install an OMV VM inside Win10 in order to hack a backup solution and get acces to those files (easily) from the internet (outside of mu local network) ? 2. also i have a few HDDs in my PC (3 desktop drives and 2 WD nas drives) i would like to know if the VM is running with the WD NAS drives mounted on it.... the other drives mounted on win10 will keep spining all the time ? this can cause some damage to the desktop drives? Thanks a lot

Buy water cooling parts on Amazon: http://geni.us/d3E5P There's the right way of doing things, and then there's our way of doing things... Don't try this watercooled server build at home, kids!!

on nvidia's website they say that Microsoft's CNTK supports Python, C++, C# and Command line interface which is great because i am fluent in c# (also lua) but when I was installing CNTK there was no option for c++ c# or command line interface so i need some help getting the C# version. also i was considering using Torch because it supports lua but it says its only for linux. is that true that Torch is only for linux?

Do you name you builds, or is that just something that people uploading a video are supposed to do to help identify which one it is?

Could anybody tell me what is this machine for? BTW it has nothing to do with pc gaming I just found it randomly on youtube Thanks

Good Morning and Happy Monday! I have had this problem before and found out it was an incorrect setting on the virtual machine. I had been setting it to NAT instead of Bridged. Recently, our entire network had a complete stroke and had to reset everything. Since then, the virtual machine (running Windows XP) is showing that a network cable is unplugged. 1. I checked the physical connection to make sure it hadn't come loose. 2. Re-Checked Virtual Machine settings to make sure the connection is bridged. 3.Tried using both WiFi and Ethernet. Anything else I should try?

Will this cut it for gaming at 1080p+ on around mid-high graphics? I would like to keep costs AS BUDGET AS POSSIBLE as I'm a student and we all know how that goes I know about building pcs and what goes well etc but never made a system for gaming alone. If its not great, make a better build and add it in the comments for me! Obviously don't need to worry about OS as Steam OS is free, and I don't want a case because I'm going to do a custom desk mount PCPartPicker part list: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/DkpyFd CPU: Intel Core i3-6100 3.7GHz Dual-Core Processor £92.91 Motherboard: MSI H110M Pro-VD Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard £49.99 Memory: Kingston FURY 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory £34.99 Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive £41.99 Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 960 4GB Video Card £179.49 Power Supply: Corsair CXM 450W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply £49.99 Total: £449.36

My job has it's perks sometimes, our graphics designers have all upgraded their machines recently to Threadripper systems, so i just basically got "given" this old dinosaur xeon machine, and not sure what to do with it I pulled out an LSI RAID card, a gargantuan SDI capture card, a firewire card, and some weird daughter board for the capture card, simply because each one added 15 seconds to POST and i value my time. Running dual Xeon X5550's at 2.66, Quadro FX3800, and 12GB of DDR3. Scored an 835cb on cinebench R15 The quadro is only DX10 so that writes off most of the fun things i can do with it, so what do you think i should do with it ?? im thinking about hackintoshing it.........

Last night I was streaming Life is Strange and my computer had no issues whatsoever. A windows update was scheduled for 3am and when I woke up this morning I was greeted by a "blue screen of death" with a frozen 50% and the error message of "Machine check exeption" i restarted my computer and i was able to use it for about a minute with no problems but after that minute, it blue screened again. In that minute i have been able to check the drivers for my gpu and my Hdd and my SSd and they look fine. Ive never done any overclocking but i checked my Bios too and it seems that i can stay in my Bios menu for as long as I want without crashing. My cpu temp seems fine staying around 32°C. I dont know what to do. If you can help, thank you very much, i want to get back to streaming as soon as possible. PC specs. Hello, I have an idea that I've been thinking of for a couple of weeks now and would like to ask for some input. I want to start a small cloud gaming business in the north of Europe. It would let you create an account and pay for hours, sort of like an internet café. The streaming solution I've looked at is moonlight, formerly limelight. It lets you use geforce gamestream a bit more freely. Maybe you could use an internet cafe software for logging in and launching games. It would also log out the customers when their time is out. Of course you would need to take some safety precautions to prevent people from doing illegal activities from your ip. Any ideas? Say I was going to start with 5 pc's. Would you build 5 separate computers and hook them all up to the web or would you do something like 7 gamers 1 CPU and rent out each VM? Sorry if this got a little messy or if it should have been in another sub-forum. I would greatly appreciate any feedback and tips. I have certenly not thought of everything, feel free to remind me of any potential problems I could run in to!

so i wanna run kali linux on vmware. Aside from the hassle of setting up the ISO, is there any other advantage or disadvantage in using a pre-made virtual machine from kali.org over making a virtual machine using an ISO from kali.org?

Do I need more than 8GB RAM? I am asking in reference to 21:9 gaming, max 3440x1440 60fps or 2560x1080 160Hz - those are the most extreme graphical settings I'll be going at. My games can vary. Currently I'm playing through AC series, starting with 1. Besides that, I play classics and new games as well. Through from Bioshock to possibly Battlefield 1. As I understand, increased graphical demand only increases tax on the GPU and the CPU? Is this true or am I mistaken? My RAM and the RAM I'll be purchasing: https://www.amazon.co.uk/HyperX-FURY-DDR3-Memory-Module/dp/B00J8E90I2/ref=sr_1_6?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1479774211&sr=1-6&keywords=8gb+ram I do also use Virtual Machines - quite a lot and my usage will only be increasing. I'll be deciding how much I'll be using separately but I first want to know whether 8GB is still enough or if I should be going up to 16gb - might go for 24GB total (a new 16GB - 2x8GB) if the sticks are on sale over or after Christmas.

Back in 2014, HPE (Hewlett Packard Enterprise) were working on a never before seen type of computer, called The Machine, where it uses memristors, huge amounts of ram, and silicon photonics. As time went on, reality started to set in, by using never before use technology, bring the entire project out to market, was proven to be impossible. But the folks at HPE aren't giving up that easily and last week, the have revealed a working prototype. The Machine features technology such as The X1 module But the true intentions of The Machine, isn't just about fast moving data at long distances. It's goal was to use NVM (Non-Volatile Memory) a replacement to DRAM, where it consumers less power and low latency optical interconnects. HPE's vision of The Machine, was to use vast amounts of NVM memory, accessible across many SoCs. It's also possible it might work together with current accelerators, like those from Intel, Nvidia, and AMD. While HPE's The Machine, probably won't be out of prototype stage anytime soon, but what's they've learned and designed with The Machine, might be implemented into their future systems. HPE's The Machine, also known as "Memory Driven Computing" https://www.extremetech.com/computing/240248-hp-demonstrates-next-generation-computing-prototype-machine-comes-together

Firstly, thanks Luke and Linus for sending me here. So, I've built a new setup: CPU: AMD EPYC 7401P MOBO: GIGABYTE MZ31-AR0 GPUS: 5 x Nvidia GTX 1080 RAM: 64GB DDR4 ECC (2333Mhz) STORAGE: 4 x 480GB Kingston SSD PSU: EVGA Supernova P2 80+ Platinum 1600W (the computer 100% theoretical load should be 1300-1400w [did not managed to test it, problem explained below]) UPS: CyberPower PR2200LCDRT2U ( I wouldn't run this computer without it, it costed too much to trust wall electricity) Software: Storage is in RAID 0 for speed. I'm using Proxmox (linux + qemu) in order to virtualize the computer. I'm using Ubuntu 18.04 Server (the one with terminal setup, not with graphical setup) + CUDA drivers in order to be able to run Tensorflow on it. Speed: Blender Rendering (one frame): Mac Book Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014) 2.2Ghz: 11 minutes and 13 seconds Ubuntu(virtualized, 32cores): 2 minutes and 4 seconds Ubuntu(virtualized, cuda 4X gpu): 1 minute and 46 seconds Current problems: TLDR: I suck at setting the passthrough, since this is my first beast of a server, and had no experience with "board management control", virtualization, qemu and iommu groups, also i've learned how to properly set up a UPS with Proxmox so in case of power loss, the system will properly shut down. I'm able to virtualize 4 out of 5 GPUs because, I still didn't figure out how to properly set the virtual instance's pci bus, because activating the 5th gpu, makes the virtual network show as present but won't work. Past problems: Fitting 5 GPUs on that motherboard is not feasible, so the only way is with extensions. I've modified a Rosewill server case to make it be able to handle as many GPUs as the board can handle (logically) Anyway here's the juicy footage: I have a series made on youtube for it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0S8pEEBmIes&list=PLOFkZ9MQr4DWjY4V3ertyAB7SKukZ6dEf (not trying to promo my channel, also no ads on my thing, just want to share the footage)

Hi, so... the tittle seems legit... If you don't want to read all, scroll down to the RESUME at the end. I have my new PC (Ryzen 5 2400G) running and playing all day (when im not working). The problem is that recently i found my copy of "Shogun Total War: Warlord Edition"... i've tried everything, all solutions i've found online, and seems to go nowere. The problem is that my hardware and the SO (W10) don't wan't to run it. The game was released in 2000, so, retro-compatibility is a nono. I come with an idea, set a VM, get my older Wxp and install the game in it, another "fiasco". The game runs at 3fps, not playable at all. Diggin in the configurations I ended up in the hardware administrator on the XP in the VM... to my surprise is running in software mode, i go to the unknown devices and is there, the graphics card, but windows reject to recognize it. No drivers to install and no way to solve it. The main problem is that after 4 days+ reading and surfing the net, it seems that "GPU EMULATION" doesn't exist, or i really suck in english (not my language so im working hard tipyng here). If is someone out there that knows more of this than me, ¿is it possible to "emulate older gpu's" in a newer gpu?, that includes triking the OS to thinking that i have another gpu apart from the integrated one (like GTX450 or ATI equivalent), and emulated in my integrated GPU or even in the CPU, so i can install the drivers in the VM-Wxp to run the game. Resume: Is some way to emulate an older GPU on my newer GPU or CPU (doesn't matter in wich one) so i can play older games in my virtual machine with WindowsXP? All other options (like compatibility mode, even editing files of the game) are a nono, no one works. (The game: "Shogun Total War: Warlord Edition")

I have an iMac, and I was curious if I could play windows games on it. I first started thinking of turning into a windows machine all together, but I was wondering if running a virtual machine inside of Mac OS would be possible to game with? Anyone have any experience with this?

Hi folks, I recently built myself a new system, leaving me with my old computer having the following specs : i5-3570k @ stock speed 2*8 GB DDR3 @ 1333Mhz 4*1 TB WD Blue 7.2k Drives 120 GB Kingston UV400 SSD 2*Gbe Intel NIC I'm planning to use this machine as an ESXi Server, virtualizing all my physical instances of various servers. I'm curious as to know whether at this point of time, given that my processor is fairly old, is there any point in adding two more sticks of 8GB ram, or should I just continue running the same config, and save money for an entirely new build ? I'm also a CS and IT undergrad, so sometimes I can have anywhere from 4-10 VM's running (hence the 4 * 1 TB Disks in my old system). Also, if I do upgrade to 32 gigs, together with a RAID 0 of 8 * 1TB Purple WDs (Raid controller and spare disks lying around from various builds), how many VMs can I run simultaneously run without the CPU being a bottleneck ?

Six months into a three year contract Ibrahim Diallo access card stopped working, assuming it needed replacing, he was given access by security and assured a new one would be issued by his manager. However after arriving to work again the next day, he was escorted from his desk by security, and there was nothing he or his manager could do, he was fired and that is all they knew, A new system had tagged him as an ex employee after an old manager forgot to add his new contract to the new system. He eventually got his job "back" after 3 weeks, but has subsequently decided to find a new one.. Hey y'all, So my dad is cleaning up his place and is thinking of scrapping his old PC. Iirc had DOS and Windows (3.0 or 3.1) running on it. I decided to come here, cause why not. I'm probably gonna get flamed for not posting pictures or specs on the machine, but I'll do it if people are really interested (specs are gonna be tricky cause I'm not sure how to get it on an old machine and don't want to open it up). Please let me know your thoughts about it as he's thinking of throwing it out tomorrow (I'm in EST if that matters to people).
