Hi everyone, just wanted to ask as my work might be trialing a Bring-Your-Own-Device policy for Macbooks where they will pay us £50 a month for 1 year to cover depreciation/maintanence etc. I currently don't own a Mac but if this policy is approved I will be looking to buy one (I have been looking to buy one for quite a while but could never justify the cost) My partner owns a Macbook Air M1 base model and I have been using it occasionally and actually find it a very capable machine (albeit with very little storage) I work in Digital Marketing mainly handling Paid Search (PPC) I work from home most of the time and have to travel to the office about 1-2 times a month. My work generally involves 20+ Chrome tabs (Google Ads, Google Analytics and such), a few spreadsheets, PowerPoints and very rarely editing some promotional material in Photoshop (very rarely and hardly ever demanding as it is normally quite small images used in banner ads and such) I currently use a company laptop (to open VPN restricted reports and such) and my PC (with Intel i5-7500, GTX1070, 16GB RAM) which I use 95% of the time with 2 external monitors (1080p both) as the laptop is a slow Dell with 10th Gen Intel i5 and 8GB RAM. So with all this in mind I have been looking at the new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro 13 inch for my current workloads but have also been looking at some older Intel based 13 inch MacBook Pros from 2020 with 10th gen i5 16gb Ram and 512gb SSD which here costs about £790 refurbished in Excellent quality or around £600 in acceptable quality, which will mean I will barely need to use personal funds to cover the MacBook. If I go with the new ones they will be around £1100-1200 for the base model and going up to £1400-1500 if I need more RAM and the 512gb SSD (which M2 ones migth need due to the slow 256gb one) So my question is whether if I go with the Intel based 2020 Macbook pro if it will be enough to handle day-to-day stuff and have 4-5 hours battery at least so I can use it without being plugged in all the time and being able to use my 2 external monitors as well, which the Air and 13inch M2/M1 Macbook pro can't do, so if I go with the new ones I will still probably use my PC and then use the MacBook when not at my desk only. Whereas with the Intel one I will be able to do both but just concerned with its speed in 2023 and battery life. (4-5 hours will be plenty for me, I am hardly away from a socket for more than that) Going Intel will also mean I get to see whether I can cope with MacOS on a daily basis for my work and then in a couple years time sell it if possible and upgrade to the Apple silicon ones and also save some money at the moment. Apologies for the long post, just wanted to list everything.

Using MacBook Air m1 and notice there is gap between lid and base of MacBook m1 . Already this is my 2nd replacement unit and still there is same gap issue. What should I do and is it normal for all MacBook users. IMG_1793.mov

so this is my sister macbook air 2015. since she bought a brand new macbook m1. she gave her old macbook to me and did factory reset. even fresh install macOS (Yosemite). when i want to download MontereyOS from Appstore. I can't signin to mac app store, after inputing the password i get a verification code on my phone, but the mac won't get to the verification window to insert the code? password said it is incorrect although it was correct I try with new email and same thing happened. try everything even fresh start OS and clear everything The Verification window not pop out is it OLD Bug?

i just reset my sister mac and install yosemite as MacOS. then i wan to install the Microsoft Word and Pages and it require to update to Newer MacOS. when i check the system update it shown there isn't any available updates for my macbook air. while in the apple support it said i can upgrade my OS

I just got a Gigabyte m27q 170hz 1440p monitor, and I've connected it to my MacBook Air via the provided HDMI cable through an adapter. It's displaying 1440p, but seems to be stuck at 60hz, and the refresh rates settings do not appear in display settings even after clicking scale resolution with option held down. Is this a problem with the cable that I'm using or something else?

Hi everyone! Hope whoever reads this is of good health. As the tittle says, I'm trying to do a teardown of my mac, repaste it and was also wondering if the "cpu heatsink" would benefit from a thermal pad on top. This laptop is currently in need of thorough support and I hope that I can find someone that is willing to guide me. Jokes aside, I bought this laptop in late 2018 and for the past year it has rapidly degraded in performance. Parts that I will be using to "fix" this: Arctic Mx-5 4gr; Thermal adhesive1,5 mm 50x50 mm; Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut 1gr; Ifixit Mako Driver Toolkit (its just here because I always wanted to have my own toolkit to be able to fix other tech related stuff) Which thermal paste should I pick? Is the thermal pad going to improve heat dissipation? (saw this on a YT vid and thought to include) I should also refer that all of the bought components will be used more than once. I was looking for a cheap laptop online but it was quite difficult to find one with good build quality, light and thin as well as on my little budget...As a student, a laptop is always needed, for essays, slides...etc. I need one that i can take around for group assessments as well as work on my desk... after a lot of time searching online i found i could buy one of the old style(grey bezels smaller trackpad) macbook air 2015/2017 refurbished of pre owned on great condition on ebay or other sites for less than 450$(im talking 8gb ram and 256ssd) Before you swap away thinking i only want a macbook because of the apple factor, please read bellow: I’m really considering it, since according to other reviews the hardware is still pretty good and fast, build quality is perfect(huge plus for me) and is really thin! Reading about it the main con was its display it doesn’t even have a 1080p screen. However i thought i could always plug it into an external 1080p or better monitor and use the “closed clamshell” mode, when i need to get work done on my desk and then just grab it when i need to take advantage of its portability, since it is an ultrabook. I couldn’t find any other options combining portability, build quality and costing under 400$... I know Linus roasted it some videos back, however it was considering its 750$ price point, not sub 450$. I think that changes a lot! What do you think? Not worth it?Other options? Thanks

I’m starting college next year and I will be studying computer science amongst other subjects. I’m looking to buy a new laptop to aid my education in the following years. I cannot decide between spending the extra money on the Pro compared to the Air. The air is lighter which will make carrying it less effort. However the pro has a 4 core processor which will make compiling code much quicker. I’m wondering if using the Air will be powerful enough to compile code on its dual core processor and whether it’s best off saving extra and getting the Pro

Hello everyone! So I recently got a refurbished Macbook Air 2015, 8Gb RAM i5. (Bought from another person) Its in great condition outside and everything. Battery only at 160 cycles. One of the first things I did was reapplying the thermal paste and now it runs as cold as snow. (Maybe not,) 35C on idle. There is one major problem that I have tried to fix for weeks and it doesn't seem to go away... PROBLEM: The wifi is a disaster. Most of the times, it says (Could not connect) Even if its correct password. Even if it was connected to it 5 min ago. And it doesn't matter which network. School, Personal hotspot, Home... Sometimes, it connects but the wifi is very slow. Like the pages doesn't even load. And sometimes it just drops the connection like its: (Nah, this thing is slow I don't like it.) I know for sure its not the networks problem. (Same wifi issue was in the internet recovery and while setting up the OS) SOLUTIONS THAT I HAVE TRIED: - New Location - Forgetting Password - Keychain Access - DNS - Proxy - Hardware (Package amount) - Restart - Reset NRAM/ SMC and other things - I even reinstalled Mac OS 10 times. (High sierra, Catalina, El Capitan). - Deleting Files - Killing activity - Turning off and on wifi - Turning off bluetooth MY THOUGHTS: - Probably the network card is broken. (But how? Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. Also I notice it depends which location Im at. For example connecting to my phone at home isn't a big deal most of the time. But always when Im at a restaurant it doesn't want to connect) So I have some ideas what it also can be. - Can it be the temperature? I noticed that it never works outside home, maybe because Ive been outside? And I tried setting on CHESS game to pump up the temperature, it raised up to 70C and the wifi magically connected. Tho, still a bit slow. Later it worked great. As fast as the temperature dropped to 50 or below, the wifi randomly disconnects.... Do you have any ideas how I can try the theory out even deeper? - Another idea is the location. Maybe it sees that my computer is in another country and thats why it doesn't want to connect? but that would be weird. Again, it sometimes connects and sometimes doesn't. (Most of the time it doesn't) Before I noticed it only after sleep. Now I notice it not only after sleep. Write your ideas or experience. Maybe you could help out my life and make it less tragic. Hello people of the internet. Let's cut to the chase. I need some recommendation. I am currently using Lenovo Thinkpad E431 (Upgraded to 8 GB of RAM and SSD), and I have a plan to switch to Apple's macbook lineup. But I can't decide which macbook should I buy? I am a university student. And I spend most of my day doing coding (web, java, also android studio), teaching, doing assignments, and sometimes editing photos in my free time. With that said, which macbook lineup should I buy? But, keep in mind I don't have a lot of money in my pocket. My plan is to get Macbook Pro mid-2012 (MD101) or Macbook Air 2014, which in my country both have relatively the same price. Or should I just keep using my Lenovo Thinkpad? Hi so i was hoping i could get some advice on this subject. Im wondering whether to buy a Macbook Air 13'' (baseline model with 8 gigs of ram and 256 gigs of storage) or buying the Macbook Pro 13'' (baseline model with 8 gigs of ram and 256 gigs of storage). Im a student so i suppose the Air would be better for portability, but im willing to compromise on portability if the performance difference is really big. Price is not a concern, as there's only a 14 bucks in difference where i live. I will be doing some CAD work and a lot of photoshop since im attending a technology high school, but most of the time i will just be using Word and Excel and stuff like that. One thing to taek into account though is, that i like the aesthetics of the Air a bit better, but performance is my main concern. TL;DR: is there a big performance gap between the basline model Air and Pro.
