Unfortunately, I'm a Mac gamer. I'm not really a hard-core "gamer", I maybe play trough 1-2 games per year. App Store currently has a fantastic discount here in Sweden with about 70% discount some AAA-titles. I enjoy games like Life is Strange, Grand Theft Auto, LEGO Star Wars, Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, The Sims. Do you think any of the games on the screen shot below would be interesting to me? I know I watched PewDiePie play Resident Evil Village and really enjoyed him playing it, though I'm a bit unsure if I would have to patience the beat the bosses (I like games that progress relatively straight forward). I played the Resident Evil 4 Demo though and it was fun.

I love collecting console games, retro, modern, etc. However I have a few concerns and am curious about possible improvements to the set up. You can see the wires, they're decently organized, but not fantastically plus the sheer quantity of them makes it hard to manage. Any ideas on how I can better manage/hide these cables, even if I should make a change in the shelf/stand I have a lot of retro consoles and a major concern of mine is that these electrical components are very old and because of that I don't trust them to be hooked up to power without my supervision. Currently I use a very large power strip which has a switch that I turn off whenever I'm not home and using a console in the set up. Is there a better way to go about this? Is there a better way to store the controllers, especially the wired ones? I worry that the wires are degrading as I wrap them around themselves and have noticed that they start to twist and take that shape permanently. I like things to appear fairly neat and be easy to get in and out. Any ideas? My original Xbox and Xbox One S need new feet however I haven't been able to really find any, someone know where I can find some? Is there anyway to protect my purchase in the case of a fire? Perhaps I could convert the physical library to digital in some cases and continue to use the discs for as long as they're available? I'm also looking for possible improvements to my desk set up and am curious if any of you guys have any ideas. I don't want to purchase a new desk as this one was quite expensive, but it has some size constraints and I was considering a few possibilities. A second Apple Studio Display. I always had duel monitors when I was a PC person, I've since switched to Apple Silicon for the time being. I love my Apple Studio Display, but I'm considering purchasing another identical model. The one concern is crowding my desk. I'd like to maintain what I call a messy minimalistic approach, there is also the concern of making my one wire set up a two wire set up for hooking up one of my Macs and reducing easy access to them. I'd like the server to be more hidden, but it runs Linux Mint so not everything is accessible in the terminal. I do tend to do most things via the terminal allowing SSH to be a great solution for most of the time. Is there perhaps some remote monitoring applications (free of charge preferably and not requiring an online account) that I could employ to maintain desktop access when required without needing an additional legacy monitor? I use the server to host my Valheim and Minecraft server. Should I adjust the storage of the lots of retro computers and parts I have? I use these for repairing/maintaining retro machines and am working on making some videos in regards to the equipment I have. I'm really hoping to minimize the cluttered look. Notes about the photos: I keep my RGB strip, Time Machine m.2 and usb dongle on the back of my Apple Studio Display, I've also recently added a USB SuperDrive (don't worry I didn't buy it new as that would be a total rip off). I have two Macs in vertical stands, one is my main machine an M1 Pro 14" and the other is an old Intel Mac from 2019 that I use only for Windows and playing some games that are only available on Windows. I use the shelving and platform to my right when facing my monitor to repair machines and stop tools and some software. The beige shelf stores more hardware and to the left of me in the photo is another hardware shelf. The legacy monitor is for my server and I'd love to retire and discontinue daily use, keeping it around only as a spare. Looking forward to your guy's recommendations.

I accidentally clicked on a suspicious link on my mac, but after checking everything i couldn't find anything suspicious like the cpu usage being too high and any new windows opening up. The only problem is i wasn't able to read the usage monitor thingy on the mac bc the names were just too complicated. Could there still be a virus? Is there anything in the usage monitor thingy that i should look out for?

I have my Gigabyte M27U connected to my 16" MacBook Pro 2021 with a single USB-C cable carrying display, keyboard/mouse passthrough, and ~18W passthrough charging. At seemingly random times (I cannot figure out a pattern, sometimes within minutes of plugging it in, sometimes after hours), one of two things happens: 1) The M27U will go black, however it does not disconnect. The charging/keyboard/mouse passthrough still works and I can still move the mouse over to that area, I just can't see it. So the computer thinks there is still a second display. 2) The connection completely cuts out and disconnected everything, then reconnects on its own and is back up and running shortly after. This happened with the original and the replacement Newegg sent me after I complained about this issue, so I don't think it's a broken unit. This is extremely disappointing because I love the monitor otherwise. Here is some troubleshooting I have tried: - This issue still happens when the USB-C cable is connected to any port on the laptop. - This issue doesn't happen when I use any other type of display connector (HDMI, DisplayPort). - When I connect video separately and just use USB-C for keyboard/mouse/charging, the USB-C connection still cuts out randomly but video does not. - It does not seem like this issue happens when connected to a windows computer, although there is no way to confirm this for sure (I just had it connected for a while and it didn't happen). I cannot update the firmware because it seems like that requires the OSD sidekick, which exists for the M27Q and the M28U on Gigabyte's site but not the M27U?? Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this and if there is anything I can do about it? And if not, do you think the same problem would happen with the M28U? I am thinking about switching it out for that one.

Summary The Fedora Asahi SIG and the Asahi Linux project have announced the release of Fedora Asahi Remix 39, the new flagship Linux distribution for Apple Silicon Macs, supporting the majority of M1 and M2 Macs. Quotes My thoughts In three short years, the vast majority of Apple Silicon Macs have gone from being completely unable to run Linux to having a distribution with a polished experience that many x86 machines would love to have. It's likely to be a game-changer in the sense of raising the bar for what is expected for a high quality desktop Linux experience on every platform, and much of the work done for Fedora Asahi Remix paves the way for a much more useful desktop Linux experience on ARM with other machines in the future (such as the Lenovo ThinkPad X13s). I have a MacBook Pro 2015 which functions well but with a broken display. Now I want to purchase a Mac mini. Can I use the headless MBP as the input device (keyboard, trackpad) to the Mac mini? If possible I don’t really want the MBP to run at least not to the OS level.

Hello Gents, What is the best option, software to use for Remote Connection from a Win11 to a Mac Mini, where my friend can share his video and audio as well since we are working on a song? Teamviewer has limitations, and only video works, when he plays something in Logic Pro, the audio doesn't come out. Thank you

I have a Mac with M1 Max running macOS Sonoma. When I run AI Image Generators (like Stable Diffusion) locally on my machine using software like Joyfusion from the Mac App Store, I noticed that the GPU is always using all it's power, while the CPU and the Neural Engine always is barely in use. I'm curious, I thought the Neural Engine was for AI stuff, not the GPU?

Mac Inside: Literally. M2 Mac Mini inside Windows gaming PC
Avaviel posted a topic in Cases and Mods
Please note I'm in planning stage right now. Nothing has been purchased. Or designed. Budget (including currency): n/a / $400ish Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: iMessage, Halo, gulper.com Other details: https://valid.x86.fr/jgwh1z Corsair 4000D Big question for TLDR: Take out mainboard/use 3D printed case or put in aluminum Mac mini box into PC. I'm not really sure if this would go builds help, or the Mac forum or case mods. Thinking about it... case mods. The PC is already built, the new thing is adding the Mac. When MAC address started being filmed, I started watching it. I had android phones, and I had Windows PC. I’ve been on android since the iPhone 3G. But watching Mac Address, it made me wonder if some of the Mac things could possibly maybe work for my style. Also, my mom uses an iPhone. And it’s much easier to help her out, if I use the same thing that she does. Now, here I am, I own the iPhone 14 Pro Max (why, yes, I DID buy it four months before the 15 came out,) An iPad Pro 11 inch, Apple Pencil, Apple Watch. However, each of those have been bought on some sort of sale. For example, with the phone, I mailed them a $150 refurbished pixel phone to get the $1000 dollars off. For the iPad it was purchased at the military Exchange. No tax! $200 off! The watch is an Apple Watch 8, purchased open box at Best Buy. There are some features that I want to try out, having the whole ecosystem together. For example, how well does voice to text act on a desktop Apple device? Siri? What about iMessage? All of the things I’ve seen online about running any of those inside a Windows box, involves much complexity, or, I could dual boot. But I would end up spending so much time. Or, I would end up needing to spend over $1000 on PC hardware to get the same kind of performance that this will have, and I don’t even want anything really special , added to that, you have the pain of setting up hackentosh. (A note, I tried to spell that out, using the voice to text on my iPhone, this whole thing is being typed that way, and it kept on one to say Anything besides that word.) The M2 Mac Mini can be found for around $400 or a bit less used. It's set up as a desktop. I have three monitors. That made me wonder, why not put one on top of my PC? Or INSIDE my PC? So, I’ve been looking at expanding this Apple Empire That has been growing. I have a triple monitor set up and I would like to use various smart KVM software to manage that. But the ultimate goal of all of this is to install the motherboard or the whole box of and M2 Mac mini into my Windows PC. I’m leaning towards simply putting the box into my computer and calling it there. However, I think it could be neat to do as many of these things internally and cleanly as I can. Maybe 3d print a case for the Mac mini board to go into? It’s small enough that it could be placed many spots. My day job is CAD work, and I have 3d printers. For monitor, I'm thinking that I will have a monitor that is devoted to the Mac. Another option, I’m wondering about virtual inputs... I really need to look into that. Or just remote into it. Power: this is going to be one of the fun parts. I found that it seems to be simple 12V: Fairy simple to add those Wires to the 12 V Rails on a power supply? Part of this would be upgrading my 750W to a 1000W PSU I think, to be safe. I would set The Mac to turn on it receives power. Also, I’ll try to figure out what button that ties to it, need the pinout of those. A failsafe would be simply A button at the back. Networking might be a little bit difficult? But I think what I’ll actually do is put a LAN cable coupling at one of the PCI slots. Same with other cables. KVM. Hopefully going software. I’ll most likely also have a few USB extensions specifically for pcie slots? I wonder if they have PCIUSB hubs, but the part that plugs into the computer is a dummy And only uses power from the slot. But then, it accepts USB-C and splits that out. The Mac mainboard -
It’s really annoying that in the Mac App Store there’s no filter to hide search results containing a subscription. I want a perpetual license. Yes I understand that reoccurring revenue is important from a business perspective, but still. Is there a Face Swap software for Mac with a perpetual license? I want to import two images and replace the face in image 1 with the face from image 2.

I recently received a mac mini with an i7 8700B and was curious if anyone had any experience with running proxmox on it. It's not a big deal as it won't be my main server and will just be running my VPN and one minecraft server so I could technically just install ubuntu but it would make things easier if I could use proxmox

Hi everyone, To give you a bit of a background; I'm a music producer looking for a pc case that would fit in with the rest of my rack mounted gear. Among many other advantages, a rack mounted pc case would allow people like me to: 1) Put my case in a soundproofed rack cabinet if I didn't want to see it - and most importantly hear it, and; 2) If it wasn't a loud system, have my case sit neatly in a rackmount where it could be within reach, looking nicer, and allowing for better cable management to peripherals such as keyboards and all, while; 3) Avoiding the big no-no of putting your pc on the floor (just don't like it) At this point in time, it feels like my only options are: 1) Pull a Linus, and custom make my own case. This would take up quite a bit of resources, time, and effort to achieve. Might also be expensive? 2) Buy a sever case. Technically, yes, this isn't a problem; but I was surprised at the lack of options. It seems like the very few available options are made for industrial purposes (doi). Server cases just seem dull, and kind of take away from the fun and excitement that can go into building your own PC. I was looking for a rack mounted case, that is based around the same production goals of most modern tower cases that you can get today: - Relatively quiet should I choose to keep it within the same room (Be Quiet cases as reference?) - Relatively modern and elegant in design, form, and function - Won't have as many compatibility issues with new motherboards and components (I'm sure this isn't a problem with server racks. I think what I'm trying to communicate is modern cases available today are kind of more consumer based and user-friendly.) I was hoping I'd find a more elegant solution. Something I can display in all of it's RGB glory. Or a stealthier - but still sexy - design for those who might choose to mount the case in a sound proofed cabinet. I have a feeling there's a market for this kind of product. I'm positive there are people like me who are looking for a similar solution; I've read about there attempts or frustrations in forums. There seems to be a gap in the market for this kind of solution. I was wondering why no one picked up on it. It's definitely something that the pro-audio industry would definitely benefit from. This article shows a landslide towards PC based systems for audio in a survey conducted in 2016 and 2019. https://www.pro-tools-expert.com/home-page/2019/2/7/pro-tools-users-abandoning-apple-mac-for-microsoft-windows-new-poll-shows-alarming-results I also believe gamers could get in on rack mounted cases since there are tons of options to display them nicely.

I'm heading to Uni in August, and I have been struggling over picking a computer for ages. I don't necessarily need anything too strong since I'm planning to go into business, so just a spreadsheet machine should work, but my love for gaming has made my decision much harder. My decision is somewhere between either: Razer Blade 16 with prob a 4070 or 4060 15" M2 Mackbook Air + Steam Deck for games While both Razer and Apple offer student discounts, a Macbook Air and Steam Deck combination is still cheaper than a Blade 16 with a 4070, and about the same as a blade 16 with a 4060. I've seen recently steam advertising both Cyberpunk 2077 and Hogwarts Legacy as Steam Deck Compatible (which I have trouble believing) but made me wonder just how capable the Steam Deck is. I don't play a lot of intense games, with the exception of Cyberpunk, RDR2, and hopefully Starfield when it comes out, and around 97% of my library is in steam, though I would be rather upset if I had a Steam Deck, and still had to wait until break to play Starfield because it isn't capable. On the other hand, the advantage of the Mac over the Blade 16 is obviously how well it integrates with my iPhone and iPad (which I also have for school). I'm also aware that the Nvidia Mobile GPU's don't often perform nearly as well as their Standalone counterparts. I am having a very hard time deciding between the two, but with the Deck's on the Steam Summer sale, I thought I'd get some other people's opinions, and possilby grab a good discount. So if you were in my shoes, which one would you choose? (Maybe in two years when I move off campus and have a bit more space I'd consider bringing my tower PC with me, but I just don't see it fitting in a dorm)

Is there any good way to take the input from a microphone and change it in real time and output the modified audio into OBS for streaming on macOS? I have a 3D-puppet that I control in real time and need to also change my voice. Free is preferred but I'm willing to pay up to 10 USD. If I can control it via the Elgato Steam Deck MK.2 (turn the effect on/off) it also a bonus, but not a must. (MBP M1 Max).

Read this, then delete before posting So if this is in the wrong thread, recently remember I had an account and I'm desperately need help with an issue at the university I work at. Anyway the issues we are having are with some AppleTV we have in a couple classrooms for our instructors to use. In total there is only 4 of them, we have 1 4th generation, 2 3rd generation, and 1 2nd generation. On campus we recently finished an project that "upgraded" our internet/wifi. Now my problem comes in, once the upgrade was complete only one of the appletv's is able to airplay/screening mirror (the 4th generation) the other 3 did not, they are hard wired for internet. Any suggestions? I have tried factory reset and restoring and nothing is working. Are the 2nd generation and 3rd generation just too old at this point or is there something I'm not trying. The three that are not working are connecting to the internet. Any suggestions, I've been working on this all week, (when I can get into the room), and have not been getting anywhere on this. I'm a pc guy.. For topics related to the recent LMG controversies, please use an existing thread rather than starting a new thread. New threads discussing these issues may be merged, locked or removed without warning.

I can play GTA: San Andreas with a PS4 controller on my iPhone. I can install and play the iOS-version of GTA: San Andreas on my M1 Mac from the Mac App Store. But how do I use the PS4 controller with iOS games on my M1 Mac? I can activate a "controller simulation" feature from the app menu, but it wants to use the keyboard and trackpad. The controller is connected via Bluetooth, and when I press the PS-button my Mac shows a folder with games. Anyone with a M1 Mac that can use a PS4 controller to run iOS games from the Mac App Store?

So I realize that the new macOS was announced over 2 months ago but I feel the need to still write this... I feel we need to recognize the 2015-2017 12-inch MacBook as the laptop that paved the way for future Apple M series laptops. This MacBook model was and still is one of the thinnest and lightest models Apple ever made. While most would call me crazy the butterfly keyboard (Which was introduced with this laptop in 2015) is still a very nice keyboard especially if you don't like a lot of travel (and assuming yours didn't break). The best way I can describe it is like clicky buttons. The 12-inch MacBook also had a beautiful 1440p retina display which still looks great to this day (Compared to my friend's school Chromebooks this baby rocks!). Most judged this machine for its poor performance and terrible butterfly keyboard. Honestly, I think this laptop was ahead of its time in terms of performance. Most had low-end Intel M-Series Processors and the high-end ones had Intel i5 and i7 processors. The 12-inch MacBook has no fan meaning that a non-optimized x86 Intel chip would run very hot and thermal throttle. Another thing people didn't like was the port selection. This machine had one and yes ONLY one USB-C port (Non-Thunderbolt capable) and one headphone jack. While some people didn't like this at the time, this is how most laptops are nowadays with a limited port selection and you usually need to carry around a dongle. But considering these things I still look back at this laptop as ahead of its time. While the butterfly keyboard didn't work out in the end, it still was an interesting design that allowed laptops to get thinner. If this laptop had received the M1 or M2 chip the performance would have been way better I think. And while in 2015 one Type-C port was unacceptable on a laptop, today it's not surprising to see a laptop with only a couple of ports. The last version of this Macbook (That being the 2017 one...) is not going to be supported in macOS Sonoma. I really wish Apple would bring back this design with something like an M1. But they won't since the 13-inch MacBook AIR now has the M1/M2 chips and took a lot of the good from this machine and fixed all the issues so really the new 13-inch MacBook AIR is the new 12-inch MacBook. For everyone wondering yes I am writing this on my 2017 12-inch MacBook with i5 processor (So yea I might be biased). Thank You for reading this and I hope everyone will remember the 2015-2017 12-inch MacBook.

Apple’s M2 Ultra powered Mac Pro is the final step in their Apple Silicon transition. But without GPU support or meaningful expansion, is it worth nearly double the price of a comparable Mac Studio?

Does anyone have any info about benchmarks on ML workloads, such as widely used model (i'm mostly interested in LLMs) inference speed for different configurations? What would be CPU inference speed on something like Xeon-W 2400? Or threadripper? Assuming any of those has comparable amount of memory to possible maxed-out M2 ultra config. How it compares against 2x or 4x 3090s/4090s? How all above compares against maxed out M1/M2 mac studio? How all above will cope with loading 30 (or even 60-70) billion parameter models? How they will work with 4-int/8-int/16-float models? And diffent inference engines (huggingface transformers/vLLM/auto-GPTQ/llama-cpp/GGLM) Aren't M1/M2 macs are actual secret ML monsters with their huge unified memory? And taking into account price of 3090/4090, M1/M2 macs can actually be a cost-effective (!) measure for this task. Here are my calculations : If I get 4x 4090, assuming each cost 1600 bucks, it's 6400. I will get 96 gigs of v-ram. And it's gpu's alone, not even talking about rest of the system. And inference speed might suffer a bit if I have to run model in distributed mode (I gotta do it even if I load llama-2 70b in int-4, for instance) If I configure m2-ultra mac to have 76 GPU cores and 192 gigs of unified memory, it will cost me .... 6600 dollars. For a bit more than 2 times of gpu-accessible ram. I need benchmarks. Does anyone have any? Mac's looking more cost-effective than PC is peak clown-world. And the funniest part, it might be a reality.

Hello to all participants of the LTT forum. First of all, sorry in advance for my English, as I'm not a native speaker. I have a technical conundrum that I wish you could help me with or provide any ideas. I have a .cdr file created by Disk Utility in 2012, which should be some kind of .iso in terms of format, and according to Finder, it's a "Master DVD/CD-R Image." This file is password-protected, and I never manage to guess the password. Every time I clean up and organize my backup disks, I come across it, and the curiosity comes back to me. I am certain that I created it (back then, I was obsessed with Fabri Fibra - an Italian rapper - and indeed, the file is named fibra.cdr). It is probably just an ISO image of a concert DVD (as it weighs around 4.5 GB) that I may have encrypted to share via Torrent or something similar. I forget what I had for lunch, let alone things from 11 years ago. I am too curious to find out what's inside and I cannot remeber for the life of me. I would even pay to have it opened, as long as it's done locally via TeamViewer - VNC. Since I have no idea what's in it, I don't feel comfortable sending it to someone. Do you have any ideas or can you point me in the right direction? I'm on Mac but have access to a very low spec laptop Windows PC if needed. Thanks to all, and have a great summer!

For context, I have a 2019 16" MacBook Pro that my company provided me (This is VERY important because it means I don't have administrator access nor I can take the computer to an Apple Retailer) and it is the second laptop they've given me that experiences this issue. This doesn't start happening until I've finished installing all my work tools (I think this is relevant because I suspect it is one of the tools causing this issue). I can't be too specific because many of the tools I use are in-house tools made by our company or clients however, I'd like to know if there is a way I can determine what process is causing this failure by reading the logs. Worth noting, in my project we have a shared 13" MacBook pro with the exact same Ventura 13.4.1 MacOS version and running without this issue, and as far as I know no one else in my company has reported this issue (I asked on Slack on our Mac users group). To be clear, this error is somewhat harmless at the moment (I only get this GPU panic error after I take my MacBook back from Deep Sleep (AKA close it and don't open it again until I'm back at the office the next day). It's not much of an issue at the moment but I have seen posts online that report the laptop will literally black screen and shut down while being used and I'm afraid it could evolve into that. The company will gift me this laptop once it's retired in a few months, so I'd really like to fix this issue if possible. Specs: CPU: 2,6 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7 Graphics: AMD Radeon Pro 5300M 4 GB Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB Memory: 16 GB 2667 MHz DDR4 OS Version: MacOS Ventura 13.4.1 I'm not well versed with MacOS as I've always been a Windows user, so I'm not entirely sure on how to navigate the logs and troubleshoot, which is why I'm turning to the community for help. What we've tried so far (with the SD guys): -Format and reinstall MacOS straight up from the latest version (So no MacOS updates performed) -Disable Auto GPU switching -Disable Enable Power Nap -Enable Power Nap on Always -Put hard disks to sleep whenever possible in all configurations -Run a health check of the hardware (turned out all OK) Panic Report: "bug_type" : "210", "build" : "Bridge OS 7.5 (20P5060)", "crashReporterKey" : "c0dec0dec0dec0dec0dec0dec0dec0dec0de0001", "date" : "2023-07-08 03:07:57.78 +0000", "incident" : "A3F13EE1-CD26-4348-AAE9-64119A94C6FE", "kernel" : "Darwin Kernel Version 22.5.0: Thu Jun 8 17:10:34 PDT 2023; root:xnu-8796.121.3~5\/RELEASE_ARM64_T8010", "macOSOtherString" : " ** In Memory Panic Stackshot Succeeded ** Bytes Traced 678057 (Uncompressed 1713504) ** ", "macOSPanicFlags" : "0xc", "macOSPanicString" : "panic(cpu 2 caller 0xffffff7fa1557747): GPU Panic: [3:0:0][PPLIB] Failed Power Play Resume.
