So I was casually listening to some music on my M50X's, which just hit 4 years of non-stop use (still in perfect condition though), and all of a sudden I felt like someone tapped on my left earcup, from the outside. I thought it was my partner, but I immediately turned around to find no one there I used to run these through a Scarlett 2i2, which just had its last breath this December, so I got an iD4 from Audient. All is working perfectly, and still is, but could it have been a popped capacitor? Do they even have capacitors inside? Judging from some quick searches they don't, but I can imagine they would. Or what else could it be? Does anyone have any experience with this, should I try to open them up, or just ignore and hope that they continue to live on as before?

Hi, I'm kind of new to high end audio gear, and I'm trying to upgrade from my M50x, I was wondering if the HD 6XX would be a significant upgrade and if so, would I need an amp to run them? I'm looking for the most clarity in all the ranges(lows-mids-highs), On some review I saw that the HD 6XX as less bass then the M50x, but I allready find that there is not much bass in the M50x. Is there any other headphones that do the low end beautifuly without giving up on clarity of the others ranges (mids and highs)? Thanks!

I usually use my Sennheiser HD58X with my FiiO K3, but sometimes I just wanna enjoy some bass heavy musik and in that department the 58X are a bit lacking imo, perfect for everything else though! Since the M50X have quite the harsh treble I tried making them sound a bit warmer and add some base on top of it. The bass will be far to heavy for audiophile listening, but if you just wanna have a fun time listening to music thats what I came up with. If anyone has recommendations for improving my EQ, please tell me so! I use the FiiO K3 with bass and gain switch enabled + PC Equalizer APO:

A couple of hours ago I was using my headphones (Audio Technica M50x), I unplugged them so I could use them on my drum kit, and when I plugged them into the same port again the max volume felt like about half of what it used to be. I plugged it into a different computer and the max volume level was at the normal level of ear shattering on it. I tried re-installing drivers, restarting, safe mode, disabling enhancements, and maxing out the mixer with no luck, any Idea whats going on?

So my ATH-M50x headphones are crackling/buzzing when i´m playing games on my computer, i just got these headphones and before these i had the Sony wireless headset and had no problems. They don´t buzz when i´m not playing games but as soon as i start up like Battlefield 1 and many other games it just starts buzzing. Does anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it.

Hi! I am new to the forums, actually signing up for this issue! I will soon be getting around 260$ maybe up to 310$ as a maximum, unsure as of now. I have looked at headphones online, having the m50x's catch my eyes many times, but then I go here, and see they're.. Not the first option, lol. What I am 'rocking' now is an Astro a40 TR setup, with the Mixamp Pro TR. A very 'gamery' based headphone, but pretty high end on at least the console gaming spectrum of things. Now times have changed, I have joined the PC side of things, and well, I like music a lot more! I want to dedicate more to it! So now that I explained what I have, I'll explain what I want. As a general rule of what I listen to, I a lot of times go to MrSuicideSheep's YouTube channel, and listen to basically everything there. Minus that, I listen to a lot of rock like the band Our Last Night, Bring Me The Horizon rarely, but that kind of music, Red, EDEN, that's the kind of genre I'm aiming toward. I do not know ANYTHING on DAC's or AMP's. So if I get headphones that are harder to run, I will not have any clue of what to get with it. That's also why I mentioned I have that Mixamp TR, because I am unsure if it will work as a decent amp or not. Now, what I would like for my 'gaming' PC setup is something with the antlion modmic 4.0, so we will need to include that into the price. That's about 55$ down. What I would like is I'm hearing open back is better every time, and my environment is good for it, so if my genre of music fits to gain those benefits, it would be preferred, but not required. With my budget, I just want to have some advice on what I should look into for my general audio setup. I am not interested in earbuds, or speakers. Just over ear headphones, and whatever I would need to have them sound the best I can with my budget, being AMP's or DAC's or anything inbetween. A last note, if that Mixamp is like terrible for whatever reason, the onboard I could use would come from the motherboard with Crystal Sound 2. The Asus X99-PRO/USB 3.1. This is a link to it. http://pcpartpicker.com/product/kWX2FT/asus-motherboard-x99prousb31 Thanks for absolutely any advice, and also as my first forum post, I did build this computer from the inspiration of this YouTube channel when I was 16. I'm 17 now, and hope to eventually get that dream setup before college, so thank you LinusTechTips community!

Hi I bought a pair of m50x and I would like to know if its possible to have surround sound for gaming because I have the razer Kraken chroma 7.1 and its sounds like they are much better for gaming. with my m50x I cant tell where is the enemy... makes me angry

So during casual browsing I realized audio was coming through both my M50Xs and my laptops speakers, trying to resolve it I've had no luck and now the audio quality has become terrible, no idea what's causing it and it's rather frustrating, drivers are updated. Any suggestions?

Hey guys! Thought you'd all get a kick out of a little video we put together turning the M50x into open back cans. The results aren't going to win any style awards, though it doesn't look terrible either. Soundwise it works pretty well actually. I have trouble describing the sound change. A little less muddy, perhaps? I say if you own a pair you don't use and enjoy a little arts and crafts project it's certainly a fun way to see how changing the earcups impacts sounds. Or just watch and enjoy as we destroy these 160 dollar cans (This video really has nothing to do with Antlion other than our social media guy wanted to do it and ... well, what the hell, we had a spare pair lying around collecting dust!)

So, the piece on the ear-cup hinge that stops rotation beyond a certain point on my ATH-M50x has broken. The headphones are way out of warranty. Are the any recommendations as to where to send the headphones for repair? Thanks, in advance

Hi, so recently I've worked my way up to be able to afford the famous Audio Technica ATH-M50X headphones which I've been eyeing up for years because of MKBHD. But, I've been thinking about whether these headphones are for me, becuase I feel as if I have a very small use case to utilise the max of these headphones, especially for the £120 pricetag. My use case for headphones/audio devices: Music - Spotify & YouTube Casual listening - YouTube, movies etc Desirable headphone features: Collapsable/Foldable - Both at the cups and and the band, the M50X does this the best at least from what I've seen Full-sized, ear-fitting cups - Oval-shaped cups such as on the M50X so my entire ear is more or less covered Comfortable headband - I use headphones for 4-7 hours a day so having a comfortable headband which doesn't hurt my head after a long time is a must Comfortable earcups - Soft earcups which don't make my ears hurt after a long time Removable cable High audo quality sound stage - I want to hear it all and in spectacular quality I feel like there's a pair of headphones out there that has all these above features and fits into my use case which can sway me away from the M50X. But, assuming the M50X is the best most suitable headphones that fit my criteria, is it a worthy investment?

So it’s no secret that my original purchase of the M50x was mildly controversial, and actually looking back now, I can see why. I was a young gun back then, with little to no knowledge about the audiophile’s world, and was tempted by the prettiness of the headphones. However, since making my original review of the M50x, I am not afraid to give it a second bout and truly write down on paper how it feels to use it. You can read my original review here, however the original review now means nothing due to this revisiting of the headphones. Note that, because of this revisiting of the ATH-M50x, the old review is now deprecated, but will remain up for the sake of transparency from how I used to feel about the headphones, and in contrast with present day. I have since been able to experience a number of Hi-Fi products including the Tin T2, FiiO FH5, and most notably my vintage 1993 pair of Sennheiser HD 580 Precision headphones. All of which beat the M50x’s shallow sound signature in some way. Without beating around the bush too much longer, I have returned to give the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x a second review and am officially U-turning them, and revisiting my previous thoughts about these headphones from a now well-oiled pair of ears after experiencing genuinely high-fidelity audio for myself. The format of this revisit will follow the formatting of all my previous audio reviews for the sake of keeping things as mirrored as possible, and to give me an opportunity to review my previous opinions without having to actually use the M50x for an extended period of time ever again. If you’ve read my original review, you will know I previously praised the M50x for their sound quality. Well, fast forward to today and they’re absolute trash. Highs The highs are literally nowhere to be found. Treble is very absent, and if EQ’d enough, become super sibilant and hissy. The highs are easily the weakest part of the headphones, as they lack any bit of punch and power. The highs excite none, and in fact have about the same excitement as stepping in a pile of shit, and actually the highs sound like the drivers have dog feces inside them anyway so it’s not too harsh of a comparison. Mids The mids are also extremely weak and absent, and just seemed like they called in sick to work, forever. Mids are completely flat and quiet, even with the volume cranked. You would find better mids in a pair of $5 Walmart headphones with an excessively V-shaped sound signature. The M50x just does not have any strength in the mids at all. Lows If there’s anything that can redeem the M50x, it is the lows. They’re actually there unlike the mids and highs. Unfortunately, they’re about as clear as if you stuck peanut butter and cotton balls into your ears before you put these headphones on. They are extremely muddy and lack any real clarity, and on top of that don’t even produce very much boom. They are underwhelming to the highest degree. The lows on paper were supposed to be the chosen one, but just like Anakin Skywalker, these can frankly die in a fire. No, these will not be resurrected into Darth Vader. While I admit I might have been a little too explicit, I can no longer keep it a secret that I absolutely hate these headphones now after experiencing greener pastures. The M50x just has a rancid sound signature to them, and I frankly don’t understand what demographic would want these as daily drivers. You could argue that the tonality in the low end could be geared towards people who are into hip-hop and rock, but even then, the lows are so muddy that you’re not going to enjoy your music at all. Add to that that the M50x are super leaning into the low-end, it’s not even going to be good for mastering and mixing music productions. These headphones for $150 are just not worth the money, no matter how convenient they are in terms of other features I had bought them for in my original review. No, I will never be using these headphones ever again, no I don’t intend to give them any further chances, no I do not enjoy the hideous sound signature, but yes I will voluntarily send them to landfill free of charge. I should probably finish by saying that despite how much of a sore jerk I'm being to these headphones, and how I have held no punches, I genuinely don't find these good headphones anymore especially for the price. The sound quality just does not match up to anything else I have used since then.

Hey, I've looked through my options, in my country DT 770 is only available in 250 Ohm and is like +50$ from the M50x so I'm not interested in buying it +an amp, the K371 is also about 40$ more, and K361 isn't available. I'm gonna use them for everything basically, gaming, job online meetings/chatting, listening to music, etc. I know they are bassy, I don't mind them being bassy as long as the vocals are clear, I've tried some bassy headphones (like beats) where the vocals are muddy and undetailed, I could barely hear the words and that's it, does the M50x have this problem? I'm also gonna buy HM5 angled along with other couple of pads to test them out so I can fix the comfort problem. With the right pads, are the M50x good for general use? And do they suffer from the vocals sounding muddy and barely hearable like other bassy headphones? Thanks!

So my long time fave's, Audio Technica's ATH-M50x headphones have broke beyond repair and i am in the market for a new set of headphones. while i love the M50x's i want to branch out into other brands. my budget stands at around $250 and i'm looking for something that is wireless (APT-x is preferable) has good sound quality (around the level of the M50x, but not too picky on the flatness of the sound) and battery life and is at least as portable as my M50x's. I have no brand preference, right now i'm just trying to get general suggestions. P.S. Velour ear pads are preferred but not a deal breaker.

Hi I am from germany and recently bought a "BAL-M50x" bluetooth-adapter from america (you can't get them elsewhere in germany). But the problem is that i hear random clicking/beeping/crackeling noises when the adapter is on. Is the adapter brocken? (That would be very bad, since i would have to send it back to america ...) Or could it be some interference with other electronics? (and why is it so loud and noticeable) (or what could it be that is sending so much electromagnetic radiation?) For information: -I used an Galaxy s7 edge -I will try it with other devices and tell you what happend Thanks (and sry for my bad english) Edit: I tried it with my pc ... same problem I seams to have to do with the adapter itself since i get these noises only wenn the adapter is getting information (sound) from the device. I also get the noises ervery secound when the adapter is in pairing-mode. I will try to isolate the headphones from the adapter itself (maybe some aluminium foil ...) Ok. That did't help ...

Hey guys, for some reason when I connect my Audio Technica M50X's directly into my computer's headphone jack connector, the audio doesn't feed into my headphones. They are perfectly fine when I connect them to my phone. Do I need a DAC or something to make it work?

Hi guys, So I decided to start getting into audio a while ago and after reading probably every review on Head Hifi, watching every video on YT and comparing a bunch of highly recommended headphones I decided I could not go wrong with the DT-770 Pro 80 Ohm for my budget (100-150 US$). I got the headphones two days ago and paired it up with the Micca OriGen G2. I have to say I am not sure I like them. Note: I'm coming from listening 40$ in-ears (Sennheiser CX300 II Precision). I'm not fluent in terms like lows, mids, etc. but it feels like they lack bass, which is what people were raving about the most. The rest is fine, vocals are clear and the treble isn't as bad/fatiguing to me as some claimed it to be. Are the DT-770s just not for me sound signature wise? Do I need to learn to appreciate them? Is there something else I'm missing? I'm not really obsessed with having a lot of bass but it does have to be present and punchy. More importantly, can I do better for 100-150 US$? I'm aware of others like the M50X or Crossfade MX-100 but I'm not sure how they would compare. The things people were raving about with the DT-770 that attracted me are good: "sound stage for closed headphones", bass, comfort! (I listen to music for long periods of time and wear glasses), just overall good sound. I can get anything they sell here: https://www.bax-shop.nl, it's in Dutch tho, look under hoofdtelefoons. I want to be able to use my headphones at library, so ideally they should be closed or semi-closed (although so far even the DT-770 seems to be leaking quite some sound for being closed. Still if you feel that open headphones like the T20RP or DT-990 (I can get my hands on the 600 Ohm) would be better for me, I am willing to consider it. The Massdrop K7XX and Massdrop HD6XX were on my list in terms of open headphones but I'm not up for the wait and higher price + shipping right now. If you've stuck with me so far, I hope you can give me some advice.

Hi all I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions for headphones for portable use around the $100 range? I'm mainly going to be gaming with these so soundstage is a great plus. They don't need to be super accurate, but definitely on the fun side. I'm primarily looking at the M40X as the M50X were way too closed in for my tastes but I really want to know what other alternative headphones are out there that fit my budget. Also they need to be portable enough that I can toss them into my bag without taking up too much space!! If I need to sacrifice some SQ for build quality I don't mind. I'm currently using Fostex T50RP MK3s but they're just too bulky to carry around all the time but sound and work fantastic. I've also got AKG K553s and while the soundstage is amazing, they're just too bass light for fun and I always have trouble getting them to seal properly on my head, especially on the go. Plus attached ridiculous cable makes them not very portable friendly. I know there are the Takstar Pro82s available but I'm just not sure of their durability against the M40X. If I had the budget I would love to get a pair of Sennheiser Momentums but they're just too much out of my budget and I need some headphones that I won't feel too bad throwing them around. I've got Fidelio X2s I use at home and ideally I would absolutely love to have something that has similar sound signature, but probably next to impossible to get in a closed back set, especially on something portable and around $100. Also I can't stand on-ear headphones if my above collection was any indication haha I appreciate any help or input!!

Looking for a wireless replacement for my M50x. I've noticed the Steelseries 840 but I'm weary of sound quality. How are bt headphones for latency? These headphones would mainly be used on my desktop where I game a lot so latency would be important (Steelseries use some proprietary thing which may/may not be good). Anyone got any recommendations for a m50x replacement (so similar sound sig) but wireless and low latency? I'm in the UK and ideally working with a budget around £200, but can go up to £250. Suggestions around £300 are fine since I may be able to get them on sale. Thanks.

I currently own a pair of AKG K52's and am thinking of picking up a pair of m50x's on black friday is it worth the upgrade i saw in a comparison that they better with freq. response and such but is it truly worth up grading to
