Alright so for an entire week i was struggling with my computer ever since i have installed this new M2 SSD, Its samsung 990 pro m2 ssd , at my first 3 fresh installs of windows this SSD was my C windows installed drive, Reason why i kept installing new OS beacuse windows kept getting corrupt, at some point i have figured it out that my PSU fan was dead, So upon fixing the dead PSU fan i tough everything was working in order, i have installed the OS on my 860 SSD pro instead, Upon installing every game on M2 SSD to stress check it it fails after some time, it happens when im playing a game or simply downloading a game, The games i have played was definetly stressing both CPU and GPU , games such as BF2042, Cyberpunk 2077 and MW2 2022 I should also mention that my PSU looked rough when i took it apart and inspected it, its an Coolermaster PSU forgot the exact name of it but it came out around 2018 so i was using this PSU for almoust 5 years (which most PSU lifes are 5 years) So my question is -Is it possible for an failing psu to only dissconnect one hard drive? Beacuse if PSU simply cannot fail a single drive that would mean i got unlucky with an faulty M2 SSD. This entire thing feels off beacuse a psu shouldn't fail a singluar hardrive but at the same time why would Samsung magician and CMD tell me that this drive is working totally fine? My specs are: I5 12400 Asus B660M-K4 Gigabyte 3060 16 GB Ram one stack 3 SSD's (one m2) 650w PSU Edit: The reason why i know that Steam isn't failing is beacuse right after the game crashed i tried to simply copy and paste a random file within the drive and the drive became unresponsive to a point where samsung magician din't even recognize it.

Fellas, I have following build. i7 6700k GB Z170X Gaming 3 24GB DDR4 RAM (single channel, read more below) Boot: 1TB Samsung 980 NVME M2 SSD disk (OS) Storage 1TB HGST mSATA HDD+8TB HGST SATA HDD Corsair RM750 EVGA 1060 6GB Peripherals connected: Asus wifi 6 card A USB Hub with all four ports occupied. Problems I face: BOOT TIME - It is slow to the epic proportions. Almost 2 minutes. Earlier I was using SATA SSD, the boot time was not so bad, it was about 15-20 seconds I guess. Ever since I upgraded to NVME M2. SSD, it has been a nightmare. I checked the Samsung SSD using magician software, performed benchmarks on it, checked for errors and even ran a speed test - results were as expected. Health is 100%, Read speeds were 2700MB and write speeds were around 2200-2000. I updated BIOS, drivers, disabled services, cleaned drives, increased paging memory, cleared cache and registry cleanup. Nothing! No results. I installed latest Chipset, ME drivers along with Intel RST drivers and updating all sorts of interface drivers that may be causing issues, Nothing! I am about to revert back to SATA SSD and return this drive. But for what? I already spent hours configuring it for my the use. This cannot be due to excessive storage devices - I just have two more extra occupied SATA slots. Nor it can be a power withdrawal issue - I have gold certified Corsair PSU powering up the PC. The only thing left is a clean re-install which is a nightmare for me - I have got so many plugins configured after painstaking calibration, so many hidden settings I played around with just to arrive for something as generic as natural background noise suppression on the mic. I am not looking at this option right now obviously, since if I switch back to SATA SSD, it works fine. So OS is clean as a slate. RAM Stays as Single Channel, won't boot in Dual Channel mode. As if the boot times weren't already aching enough, the system cannot POST in dual channel configuration - I scoured the BIOS - did best to play with all sorts of settings and test things- but nothing worked so far. And I am running on a single channel setup of 16GB Crucial DDR4 2400 and a Kingston Hyperx (the initial RAM I had which I got RMA'd and reinstalled) I guess clocked at 3200 MHz. I know that is a terrible combo, and severe underutilization of HyperX's frequency but hey things worked - in good speed and system did not breach 20GB RAM until I played MS Simulator along with chrome opened with 10-12 odd tabs. And this situation is a rarity for me, I usually work edit, create videos and documentation, besides coding via Visual studio and few other IDEs.. For my work, it is optimum. But guess, fate is playing around me like a kid with a creepy doll in a house with creaking floors! I usually consider myself a good troubleshooter but alas, I am at my wit's end here. I am about to give up on it, cry in a corner and live with the fact that I am a walking meme who's being laughed upon his friends saying "He has a 1TB M2 SSD and a boot time of 2 minutes"

Hello, My trouble is not specific to a specify SKU or definite storage medium but more broadly about the position and deflection typically found in installing NVMe drives (prior to installing the mount/stand-off screw) Assuming one is without the proper pitch screw and/or standoff provided with their motherboard (for brevity, assume a prebuilt and you lose the screw when installing/replacing a drive) and has no immediate replacement available, is it all that terrible to utilize the drive; and if so, what really drives the need to fully secure the drive besides the obvious? For context: the drive is properly fastened and is deflected slightly (10 or fifteen degrees seems standard), so long as there is full contact with the motherboard connection, could you expect the drive to function properly and without damage? For some time, or is it unpredictable? Thanks, if the question is unclear I'm happy to elaborate

I got a samsung m2ssd 250gb and wanted to move my storage from my 2tb wd hdd drive(used less than 250gb of space) the hdd drive is from a prebuilt hp which i took out, i cloned my storage onto my ssd but i cant get the two drives to boot simultaneously nor does the m2 ssd boot alone. What should i do?

Hi all, Corsair P1 is on backorder and I read that it really isn’t that great for gaming anyways. If I wanted to go for a solid M2 SSD, would any of these be a better choice? I was looking at both an Intel 660p and a WD Blue. Are these both good options for gaming, and if so, which would be better? I prioritize price and temps above other factors since I’m looking mainly for storage from which to boot my games from.

Hi ,I'm a gamer , I love Call of Duty ,Rainbow Six Siege and many other games ,but I dont know to much about performance and this kind of stuff , That's why I'm here asking u guys ,the thing is i want to get another ssd for my PC, I already have the M.2 960 evo 256gb with the OS and some game installed on it ,i want to buy another ssd to separate the OS from the installed games ,I think will be good to my PC performance , I accept comments about this!! If I'm ok I need you guys to help me to choose between the M.2 970 evo and the ssd 860 evo , my motherboard have 2 M.2 slots so I'm not worry about slots. My question is: Is M.2 better than regular SSD to have the installed games on it, I will have better performance with the M.2 or with the SSD? I hope you guys understand me ,thanks

Hi guys, I am building a new computer and decided to use two Samsung Evo 860 M2 SSD's. The processor is Ryzen 5 2600x and the Motherboard is MSI B450 Gaming pro carbon. I've put the 250 GB M2 in slot 2_1, its showing up and booting well and good but the other 500 GB M2 on slot 2_2 is not being detected. I've not connected any HDD via sata currently. Is this a board limitation or something else ? please help. On reversing the positions the 500 GB M2 SSD shows up in bios but the 250 GB one is not detected. The motherboard states that using 2_1 slot disables SATA 5,6 (no problems) and using 2_2 slot disables all the PCIe except the main 3.0 for graphics card.

I heard its used as a heat spreader, I didnt know. Would this have any effect on my ssd? I know this is dumb but I didnt know about this until a couple days ago.IF you were wondering what m2 ssd I have its the Crucial P1 3D NAND NVMe M.2

Hey guys, I got a new M2 SSD as I needed some space for games and video rendering. The installation turned out to be a nightmare for me, lost 3 years data I'm using a X399 board (MSI Gaming pro carbon AC) with Threadripper 2950x, I had a 2TB Seagate SSD with my OS installed and another 1 TB SATA HDD. After I installed my M2 onto my PC, it was not showing up in the drives (though detected in Device Manager). Thought I need to enable bios settings to enable M2 and followed steps in this MSI official video for X399 : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MClnWJ9mws The video showed BIOS settings to enable "Windows 10 WHQL Support" and change SATA mode to "Raid" from AHCI. Little did I know doing this needs me to re-install my OS (as it involved deleting arrays and creating new array). I ended up re-installing my Windows 10 in my new M2 SSD. But, post OS installation, my SSD and SATA HDD are not getting detected. I installed Raidxpert2 tool and found out my new M2 SSD is being red-flagged with type as "LEGACY". I have options to Create new arrays with my other SSD and SATA HDD. Now I have the below questions: 1) Why is my M2 SSD red-flagged with type as "LEGACY", What went wrong here? 2) Creating new array from Raidxpert2 is giving an option to select array type as Volume(JBOD), RAID0, RAID1, which one should I choose? My primary use is gaming and video encoding/rendering. If I choose Raid0/Raid1, its allowing a min of 2 drives to be selected and mixing SSD with SATA HDD isn't an optimal way right? 3) Do I really need SATA mode as RAID for M2 SSD to work with X399 ? Which one among RAID/AHCI would yield more performance? 4) Since, I started my win10 installation fresh, please let me know if there's a better way to format my drives and use them all together. I'm planning to add more M2 SSD's in the future and would ideally want a smoother onboarding. PS: I have UEFI enabled in BIOS as well. Hi I have a question about my build I currently have . I have an i5 6600k overclocked cpu and I have installed Windows in my Samsung 950 PRO NVMe M.2 SSD . I am feeling that my cpu is slowing me down sometimes . Is this possible or should I look for a different problem?

Hi Everyone, Question: I am trying to figure out if running an M2 disk on this motherboard as OS drive will give noticable performance increase over the other options available to this card. Currently running OS on a Samsung 840 EVO on a Sata 3 port. I wonder if using the M2 port as a OS/system drive will make me load faster into Windows and have a more quick & snappy experience running windows on an M2. Since using this M2 slot on this motherboard takes away two Sata 3 slots I naturally want to compare this towards running 2xSSD in RAID 0 on the Sata 3 slots. I got the following word from MSI Support regarding the max speed of the M2 port. " The M.2 SSD can only run in PCIE GEN2 X2 speed on the MB even if it is PCIe3.0 x4 (最高32Gb/s) NVMe 1.1 device.Thanks! " Doing some quick research on the PCIE GEN2 X2 speed I found that it is limited to 1000 MB/s (8Gb/s) and that it theoretically allow a max speed of 600Mb in consequitve read / write speeds. This is as far as I know not any better then the SSD that I am currently running on my SATA 3 port as my OS disk? I'm new to M2 SSD's and Raid 0 but tech savvy otherwise so I appreciate help in getting up to par with running M2 SSD's or SSD's in Raid 0 as it performes to real world usage. Thanks for your help.

Hey, I'm in the process of researching my upgrade to Skylake, and I'm thinking of adding an M.2 SSD, as the board I'm thinking of getting (MSI Z170A SLI Plus) has it's own M.2 slot, however, I'm going to be running my current graphics cards in Crossfire (2x Radeon HD 7770's, not much but they do the job). I'm under the impression that my chosen cpu, the i7 6700k, only has 16 PCIe lanes available, however I've heard around various forums that the chipset supports an additional 20 lanes or something of the sort? Could you guys give me a hand in figuring out if using an M.2 SSD is going to take up some of the CPU's 16 lanes, and reduce the bandwidth the cards are running at, or is it going to use some mystical lanes that are provided by the motherboard? If it will cause me to lose bandwidth on the GPUs, I'd rather just stick to my current drives, as one of my main motives for upgrading was to have my GPUs working better (they're currently working at PCIe 2.0 x16 and x4, and hopefully after the upgrade they'll be running at PCIe 3.0 x8 and x8).
