My legion 5 17imh05h has an extra unused m.2 slot. A few other models of legion 5 have been documented to work well with 2nd m.2. I tested size with my existing m.2 and I think it fits well? There is no shielding though, is this fine? (note I might not have fully screwed in) I would like to put a 2tb singlesided NVME 2280 M.2 SSD in it. I want one that isnt too thick because I might get a framework 16 next. What brands are good for gaming? Good speed and reliability, I do not want lost save data. Ideally one purchasable on amazon.ca as I am Canadian and need it soon(have prime). I don't want to be without this computer for long but really want to avoid opening and closing it a bunch of times as I don't want to strip screws and risk breaking the clips. Thank you!

Currently I am running a gigabyte z390 m gaming motherboard. I have had a sabrent m.2 installed in the m2p slot in my motherboard and it has worked since I've owned it. Now I've installed a Samsung 970 evo plus in the m2q slot in my motherboard. It should be able to run a pcie m.2 in that slot as I only have one sata cord plugged in and it's plugged into SATA 5. I believe the sata slots that mess with things are SATA 1 and SATA 2. Anyways does anyone know why this is happening. The Samsung 970 evo plus does not even show up in my bios. I saw things about activating that slot but I could not find anything related to it in the bios. Any help would be appreciated and thank you in advance for any time that you spend helping me out! I added the Manuel down below Sincerely, Yodog5243mb_manual_z390-m-gaming_v1_e (1).pdf

So I am looking into getting more storage for my laptop (HP spectre 15" 2019, with these external ports) and I'm trying to decide between a more 'mainstream' solution in just an external SSD or if I should get an M.2 SSD and enclosure. I mainly want to put games on it from steam/epic games store in order to free up more room on my internal SSD (i.e. leave the SSD on my desk to play games and have storage free internally for when I take my laptop with me for classes). I'm not super familiar with all of the different names and how everything works, but this is kinda what I was thinking when I say external enclosure (not sure how common these are). I had also seen some that had built in docks that I thought I could use with my second monitor - Sabrent USB 3.2 Type-C Tool-Free Enclosure for M.2 PCIe NVMe and SATA SSDs - this is the ssd w/ hub, but I'd rather avoid Kickstarter The other option would be something like this from Best Buy or Amazon or something - Samsung - T7 500GB External USB 3.2 Gen 2 Portable Solid State Drive Those are just examples to show what I was talking about, so I am VERY open to different suggestions about it just trying not to break the bank on it lol. I was also thinking it could be possible to replace my laptops 500gb SSD with a 1TB one and put the old one in the enclosure. I've never done anything like this so any advice/recommendations would be amazing, thanks!!

This is a peculiar problem I have run into. I searched but couldn't find so had to make a post here. The m.2 SSD shows in the boot list as it's serial number CT500P1SSD8 (image attached) But when I go into the Advanced Drive Configuration the M.2 shows as Empty (image attached) I ran a compatibility test here https://www.crucial.in/ssd/eol_p1/ct500p1ssd8 and that says that it is compatible. What do I do?

Hey, I have questions regarding m.2 ssd, My HP Pavilion laptop (15-bc406tx) has m.2 slot, manual doesn't specify which type of slot is it. But in the manual, they show support for m.2 SATA sdd 128 Gb plus support for Intel optane memory of 16 Gb Pcie gen 3x2. My Questions are: Does that mean, my laptop support M.2 nvme ssd's, as it supports Intel optane memory of 16 Gb Pcie gen 3x2; cause they haven't mentioned m.2 nvme ssd in manual. Also which Gen of Pcie is it? 3x2 or 3x4? What if it supports M.2 Nvme Sdd's with Gen 3x2, what happens if we put 3x4 in it? is it recommended? Stated(in manual) M.2 SATA ssd low, can we add 1Tb ssd instead of 128Gb? Thank You!

Summary APACER/Zadak has announced the world's first consumer-grade PCIe 5.0 NVMe M.2 SSD, which are capable of up to 13,000MB/sec (13GB/sec) reads and up to 12,000MB/sec (12GB/sec) writes. The new APACER and Zadak PCIe Gen 5 NVMe SSDs are available in two versions: the standard APACER design, and then a ZADAK one (which looks virtually the same). Both of the new PCIe 5.0-ready SSDs support the latest NVMe 2.0 standard, with reads of up to 13GB/sec and writes of up to 12GB/sec on both drives. Quotes My thoughts Boy do these drives fly! I know for most real world use cases this is all but useless, but still cool tech nonetheless. One of those things you don't need, but definitely want. I'm quite impressed with the performance of my Gen4 NVMe SSD, and these drives offer more than double the speed I'm getting with mine (crazy stuff). I'm guessing when more drives like these hit the market, Gen4 drives will drop in price; which will be good for new buyers. No word on pricing for these drives yet, but I imagine they aren't going to be cheap. Phison's reference SSD reaches sequential read rates of over 12 GB/s in CrystalDiskMark and sequential write speeds of 10 GB/s. Phison's proof-of-concept SSD has a PCB and connector footprint incompatible with M.2 2280 slots. Hi guys looking for a little help , im having this weird lag issues with windows 10 which started about a week ago, and i have been trying to sort it since. So the machine is working fine and all of a sudden it lags, whilst that could be moving a window, playing a game, or on a skype call. Games jitter when it happens , camera goes on like a catch up lag mode, and everything else is like a slow snap when it kicks back to normal. I have only changed 1 thinking in the machine the last week or so since it started happening. I upgraded from a Ryzen 2600 to the 2700x (Checked the board can take it) , someone suggested to check my m.2 and this is where it got a little weird. So bellow is the m.2 ssd itself, its the sabrent 1tb rocket (i know its a cheaper brand). The image on the left with the high write speeds are the day i got it, new install of windows, snappy. Image on the right is the speeds today, reads seem better, writes have went all over the place ( i dont know if thats normal, but thought worth mentioning) Full machine specs are Windows 10 pro build 1909 Ryzen 7 2700x (no overclock / temps max at about 75) Cryrig m9a (single fan( Asrock b450m Pro4 motherboard (latest bios, updated this to 3.90 prior to cpu upgrade 16gb Corsair vengeance ddr4 (2400mhz dual channel kit 2x8gb) Nvidia 1070 evga sc (not overclocked) 1TB Samsung 7200rpm drive Connected i have - Hdmi - 29 Lg ultrawide -Display port - 24 inch benq - usb 3 - Mionix mechanical keyboard, with usb hub (2 usb cables) -The logitech g502 is connected directly to this -Usb 3 - western digital external hard drive -Ubs 3 - Skull candy usb headset -Ethernet to powerline for internet - Usb 3 hub (3 usb 3 ports and card reader, nothing ever really conencted ) Nothing else connected altho i sometimes use a usb audio adapter, and my phone Webroot and malware bytes found nothing, all windows updates are done. The pc boots with only a handful of things enabled. Im at a loss. I tried to record a gameplay video and stream on twitch and it was just so laggy, dropping frames. Didnt do that a week or so ago.

Hello everyone, I just upgraded my system with new M.2 SSD (nvme 250gb Samsung evo plus) and i was able to install windows 10 x64 on it and after installation everything was running smooth. Also while installing windows on M.2 SSD I physically removed all my other storage device from motherboard (sata ssd and hdd). Then i restarted my pc and i got a error blue screen so i did hard restart (from cabinet button) and went into bios to see if my motherboard is detecting the M.2 SSD or not. My board recognizes the M.2 storage in "Onboard device configuration" and also in boot selection menu (the one which comes when you press F8). The strange part is that my boot order is showing only my WD HDD with Windows manager written with it and when i tried to configure boot options from motherboard bios options i can only see my Sata SSD and Sata HDD, i can't find the option to choose M.2 as my primary boot device. I tried everything which i knew and now i have no clues what to do. Note - I never installed windows on my HDD, i used to have windows on my ssd which i completely formatted after installing OS on M.2 and now it's being used as storage device. I am able to boot windows and able to use my PC when i choose M.2 from boot selection menu (by pressing F8 on bios) screen. Please help me because i want to use M.2 as my primary boot as it is super fast and makes my life easy while using my PC. It is so frustrating to always go to bios and select the M.2 from there and then boot. Any help is highly appreciated. Hello I was just looking to get help with the installation of my M.2 SSD. Now I don't mean hardware-wise because I already did that in the motherboard is detecting the SSD I'm trying to install Windows 7 on the SSD. The SSD is an Intel SSD 6 in the motherboard is in Asus x99a. I've followed several tutorials online on the set up but have had zero luck and I was just looking if someone could help me on a one-on-one basis. Thanks! -BobQ

Hello! Recently I have been recording a few clips of PUBG. I play at a 2k resolution and wanted to record at that as well (2k60fps). When I record in 1080P I can really knock up my bitrate but when I record in 2k on Nvidia Shadowplay is limited to 50mbps bitrate. It seems like I have some sort of memory bottleneck, one where i need faster memory in order to knock up my video quality. If I upgrade my memory from a SATA SSD to an M.2 drive for video recording (not storage) would I see an improvement in my bitrate and video quality?

Hello! I'm putting a new MOBO/CPU/RAM combo in a desktop, and I'm going with this combo at Newegg. https://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.3482619 What I'm trying to figure out is, does the M.2 slot support PCIe drive speeds, or is it just another SATA III M.2? And if it does support PCIe speeds, what's a relatively inexpensive but not terrible M.2 PCIe drive I can look at for installing just my OS (Windows 10) on?

Hey guys, So recently I got an gaming laptop for college (I miss my Desktop back home, but I needed something portable) and I've been having some issues with installing a new Intel 6 series M.2 128GB SSD. I wanted to set it up as a boot drive for Windows and as a small library for a couple of my favorite steam games, but after plugging it into the M.2 Slot, I can't find it anywhere on my computer. I checked for it in "This PC" Since it isn't formatted yet I also checked in disk management, but still it was nowhere to be found. I've tried reinstalling the drive a few times to see if the contacts were misaligned, but my SSD is still not coming up on my pc. Does anyone know why this is happening, and what I could do to fix it? Thanks

Since this is my first time posting here I'll give a little intro. I'm a game designer who loves creating worlds and the number 3. Moving on. I built my current rig by watching a ton of LTT videos back in 2015, so I've been a fan for a little while. The only thing in the computer that wasn't brand new was the SSD the OS was installed on. Here are her specs: Asus X-99 Deluxe i7-5930k @ 4.1GHz HyperX Predator 16 GB DDR4 EVGA GTX 970 SSC Corsair Force 3 120GB SSD (Boot Drive and Unreal Engine 4 among a few other programs) WD Black 2TB HDD (Storage) Rosewill 1200W (Overkill, I know) Well, since my SSD is down to around 5GB free space, I decided to order a 256GB WD Black Gen3x4 NVMe SSD to replace the Corsair Force. I don't remember where, but I read that you can't use an NVMe m.2 SSD as a boot drive, even though it says "Build the ideal PC with dual storage from WD: PCIe SSD+HDD" on the m.2 SSD box. So I would assume that it will work as a boot drive. My main concern is getting the information from the current SATA drive onto the m.2 drive, since I also read somewhere that it is not possible because of the differences of the interface or something along those lines. I'm going to connect the new drive to the dedicated vertical m.2 slot on the mobo instead of using the PCIe adapter that came with the X-99 Deluxe because, correct me if I'm wrong, that produces better results due to being interfaced directly through the CPU as opposed to routing through the PCIe lanes? So, my question is how do I upgrade from my current SSD boot drive to the m.2 while keeping everything intact? Should I go the route of cloning software? If so, can you recommend a good one? Or is there another method like disconnecting the current SSD and using my backup drive to "restore" the system to the new SSD? Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks, MP3

Hi, I built my first PC a few months ago and it all went fine but now I am building a PC for my brother but I have problem. The PC was working fine with an M.2 SSD then I added a SATA SSD and still fine but when I went to add 2 HDD's in RAID 1 it completly stopped detecting the M.2. I have tried switching SATA controller modes back to AHCI I have tried disconnecting the other 3 devices but nothing seems to work the SATA SSD and the 2 HDDS work fine but I cant get into windows as that was on the M.2 which stopped working. I would appreciate any help. Thank you I CAN GET INTO BIOS BUT THE M.2 ISNT DETECTED SPECS: ASUS X99 STRIX MOBO I7 6800K 2 X WD BLACK 2TB HDDS 1 X SAMSUNG 950 PRO 256GB M.2 1 X SAMSUNG 850 PRO 512GB SSD ASUS STRIX OC 1070 32GB x CORSAIR DDR4 VENGANCE 3000 CORSAIR HX850I

I have MSI Z97 Gaming 3 and want to buy Intel® SSD 540s Series (120GB, M.2 80mm SATA 6Gb/s, 16nm, TLC) I know that there are few different types of M.2, the question is - do M.2 on my MB support M.2 on this SSD ?
-
So I've build my PC a few months ago and for the storage I am using 256gb M.2 SSD and 2TB SATA HDD. A few years ago my brother bought his Acer laptop and now he is into his "extreme gaming era" and of course he complains about his FPS on PUBG (Player Unknown Battlegrounds) and he SOLIDLY CLAIMS that his FPS would be much higher if he had his PUBG installed on an M.2 SSD drive instead of running it from the HDD (he has the same M.2 port on his laptop like mine (I've seen it)). Question1: Since I have my Windows installed on my M.2 SSD and he has his own Windows installed on his HDD, will his computer freak out from knowing that there are two Windowses? Question2: If I give my brother my M.2 SSD to install his PUBG to only check if the FPS would be much better, will I have ANYKIND of problems with booting up my PC after I take it back? For Question2 - I think the BIOS boot order would play a major role, because it depends on which drive is set to boot first (although I am not very sure) I probably know what's gonna happen, but lets be sure... #TooLazyToGoogleBecauseILikeSocialnteraction Thanks, guys!
