I have an Alienware 15 R3 that i use mostly for gaming and wanted to get rid of the original 1 TB had drive and replace it with a ssd so it would be faster. While I was looking for an ssd I saw the Samsung 870 Evo 2 TB for around $150. I also noticed the speeds were really low compared to a NVMe m.2 ssd so I went looking for an adapter for NVMe m.2 to sata and found an adapter for $30. I picked the WD_Black SN850X 1TB for my ssd. after looking a the cost it was about 150 dollars for all of the items on Amazon. Sorry for the paragraph but I wanted to know should I sick with the ssd and would the adapter slow down the speed of the m.2 drive also would the m.2 drive need a heat sink so it wouldn’t over heat.

Hi All Good day, I am looking at a new NVMe SSD recently and notice recent SSD is getting faster and hotter, some even come with huge heatsink attached for better cooling. For starts, below are my specs. AMD Ryzen 1600 2x 8GB Corsair 3200MHz Asrock AB350 ITX GTX1070 Adata SX8200 Pro 2TB My next SSD plan is Adata Gammix S70 2TB So, my questions is: 1. Does the new NVMe SSD needs good cooling? Since I am using this Adata SX8200, it never goes beyond 70C. 2. Is the M.2 NVMe Extension cable any good? Performance drop or any other issue? 3. Does PCIE3.0 extension cable able to support PCIE4.0 in the future if I am to upgrade my system to PCIE4.0 capable? Thank you all for your kind replies.

Hello all, I just finished building two identical pc’s for my brother and a friend of mine. For starters both systems started up differently which was strange. The RAM they bought is the same (T-Force Delta R) but ones rgb lit up and the other did not. I can’t even go into the rgb settings because ASRock Polychrome syncing system doesn’t even pick them up even after a manual flash! Also Team Group discontinued their independent rgb system which was called Blitz. Are these a bad set of sticks? Any Alternatives to ASRock polychrome? Is there an old download for Blitz anywhere? After boot we installed all the necessary drives required for each system and I found that downloading onto the nvme m.2 drive (WD SN550 500gb) was very slow (downloading Cold War on battle.net 130gb). At first I thought it was our internet, then maybe the cord, then maybe the jack but all test well. After further investigation I found that the write speeds were terrible and inconsistent. So did I do something wrong? Is it battle.net? Is there a driver? Please lmk what you guys/gals think!

Hey, I have questions regarding m.2 ssd, My HP Pavilion laptop (15-bc406tx) has m.2 slot, manual doesn't specify which type of slot is it. But in the manual, they show support for m.2 SATA sdd 128 Gb plus support for Intel optane memory of 16 Gb Pcie gen 3x2. My Questions are: Does that mean, my laptop support M.2 nvme ssd's, as it supports Intel optane memory of 16 Gb Pcie gen 3x2; cause they haven't mentioned m.2 nvme ssd in manual. Also which Gen of Pcie is it? 3x2 or 3x4? What if it supports M.2 Nvme Sdd's with Gen 3x2, what happens if we put 3x4 in it? is it recommended? Stated(in manual) M.2 SATA ssd low, can we add 1Tb ssd instead of 128Gb? Thank You!

New build, Asus ROG Strix Z690-G motherboard and 13700k. Storage is 2TB Kingston KC3000 NVMe m.2 SSD. It's the only drive in the system and has no data on it. PSU is 850W. I cannot get either the BIOS nor the Windows setup (Windows 11 Home 64-bit) to recognize this drive in the m2-1 slot. In the chipset m2 slots it's listed in BIOS in EZmode under "Storage Information: RAID:" but not under boot tab or NVMe devices and I can't find anything else about it in BIOS, nor is it detected by Windows setup. I tried putting the drive in a different computer, it still was not initially recognized in the BIOS, but was listed in Disk Manager and I was able to initialize it as GBT and create a single volume formatted as NTFS. Putting it back in the new computer, it was still not recognized by BIOS or Windows setup. Windows is still not yet installed on the new computer so I can't use Disk Manager or other Windows tools. I am unable to boot into Windows as the computer has no drive except for the Windows installation USB. I've tried enabling and disabling CSM, and am running current BIOS version (2103). I've reverted to previous BIOS version, and again updated to current version. I'm at a loss of what to do next. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have an issue where I cannot see my m.2 anywhere but this screen in the bios. Can't load windows, and it doesn't appear anywhere else. This is the second slot and second chip I have tried this with. I didn't set it to anything this is just how it appears when I start it up. Thanks for the help.

Looking to do a itx build and considering the ASUS z690i board and read a few articles about the M.2 stacking issue. Apparently the heatsinks come into play when both M.2's are installed and the cover plate doesn't allow for a proper fit, has a bend in it and causes a bow. One article mentioned removing the heatsinks and reinstalling new ones. I want to pair the board with 2, either a Samsung 980 Pro or the newer 990 Pro. Has anyone tried this and if so any problems with fitment? Another article said that a single sided board would fit best instead of a double sided board. Would the Samsung's be considered a double sided board? Any other information pertaining to this would be helpful. Thx

Hello, I have laptop MSI GE62VR, it has i7 6700hq that has 16 lanes and gtx 1060 3gb (desktop gare) GPU. I have added m.2 ssd (samsung 960 evo) and according to MSI specs it uses 4 lanes. CPU is cappable of running in 1x16, 2x8, 1x8+2x4 lanes modes according to intel site. I wonder when I added SSD I just forced it from 1x16 to 1x8+2x4 mode and probably "cut" some GPU lanes. Can it lower GPU performance? laptop spec and CPU spec https://www.msi.com/Laptop/GE62VR-6RF-Apache-Pro.html#hero-overview https://ark.intel.com/products/88967/Intel-Core-i7-6700HQ-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_50-GHz

Hey, I have few questions. 1) I was looking in Ryzen CPU a while back and i don't know exactly how many PCIe lanes it has ... Maybe 24 PCIe lanes (16 Gen3 lanes from the cpu and 8 Gen2 lanes from the chipset of x370 mobo ? 2) How many PCIe lanes does M.2 NVMe SSD takes in M.2 slot and which Gen ? /////////// Because i was kinda wondering since im trying to build computer, like graphics will requier x16 lanes and from and that's ok... but from then on idk for M.2 NVMe SSD, if it will requier 2 pcie lanes (Gen2) or 4 pcie lanes as gen3 ....

Hi everyone, finished my new PC build and I would like to have the fastest boot to win10, approximately 22 seconds which isn't bad but I think the system could be faster, there is one drive Samsung 960 Evo M.2 NVMe 250 GB more than 160 GB is FREE. so any kind of help would be wonderful, also if you like recommending a Youtube video wich has a clear steps to do faster boot times that will also work. Thanks in advance

Hi all... I'm planning to get a new system using AMD Ryzen Gen3, Can I use 2 different M.2 SDD (M.2 NVME as primary (Windows) and M.2 SATA as secondary (Game) storage). Or do I have to use both NVME or both SATA. Thanks Bomberman00

Guys I need to upgrade my acer nitro 5. I want to add a ssd to it. I ordered a m.2 sata ssd. I did more research and found out that my laptop have a m.2 NVMe slot. Will that be a problem? Should I cancel my order and buy an m.2 NVMe ssd instead?

Guys I bought a m.2 NVMe 256 gig ssd. I just installed it in my acer nitro 5. But the drive is not detected under computer management>Disk management. Will it be because of crapy ssd? I guess I have installed it correctly but I was unable to tighten the screw holding the ssd tight cause I dont had proper tools. Sill I have placed it securely and ssd is not in some unstable position and is not shaking when pressure is applied over it. Is it a software issue or hardware issue or my crappy installation?

So I have a 970 Evo that has a write and read speed up to about 2500 mb/s. And a sata ssd with a read/write of about 500 mb/s I want to use the 500gb 970 Evo for data and the 250gb sata ssd as boot drive. Will it make a big difference in boot time? Or will it bottleneck my 970 or Evo or CPU?!?!?! ? Yeah idk.. does anyone have experience with this?

I ask this question because my performance drop is abnormally high. I connected the eGPU to the laptop using Thunderbolt3 via Razer Core x and Nvme M.2 via ADT-Link R43SG and printed it on an external monitor. Compared to when RTX 2080 was connected to the desktop, the TB3 method brought me 32.71% performance loss, and the M.2 method brought me 29.83% performance loss. My intuition assumes that my laptop is limiting the performance of the eGPU.

I am currently buying parts for my skyreach 4 mini and am looking for a decent NVME SSD. I stumbled upon the Patriot VPN100 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME however the motherboard has 2 nvme slots one on the front and one in the back. I intend to use the one on the back as it will make adding more storage easier in the future. The SSD comes with a heatsync which will not fit behind the motherboard and between the case. Will the thermals for the drive be fine without the heatsync.

Ok I think I’m the first one to do this. I Fried my my m.2 SATA when cloning it to my new M.2 NVMe. How you ask, well it’s complicated. So after getting a new laptop and finding out that the ssd m.2 wasn’t the super fast NVMe I decided to upgrade. The problem was I wanted to clone instead of a fresh install windows, however being New Zealand where it’s tech backwards getting hold of a m.2 NVMe external enclosure (m key) In store for less than 150 dollars was impossible. (You can get them on amazon or al! Express for less than 20 dollars.) and i didn’t want to wait for the postman. but I did find a m.2 SATA (b key)enclosure for 30 dollars. So new plan buy new super fast m.2 NVMe, remove slow m.2 SATA and place in external enclosure. Fit new blank m.2 NVMe to laptop and boot laptop from external m.2. So far so good laptop work on m.2 in external, winning!! Download macrium reflect and clone!!! macrium reflect has encountered a serious problem while cloning the 3rd Partition, blah blah blah. Laptop crashes so unplug reset and try again! This time I see the 1st and 2nd partitions are already cloned so a just drag the 3rd and 4th over. And clone! “ it’s been on 36% for like 20 mins now, humm!! (taps random key shakes mice) f**k it’s frozen!”. I try everything and eventually I unplug external enclosure. Dam it now the m.2 SATA and all my data is lost. Doesn’t matter what l do the laptop will not detect it and the led instead of flashing it’s just constantly on! Have I lost all my data by frying my m.2 SATA??? Help me please.

only 2 usb ports get power, keyboard lights up but pressing keys has got no effect, can't go to bios because I need to either press F2 or delete to set up the nvme as bootdrive. If using 2.5" ssd and/or hdd, the system works fine (OS is currently in the 2.5"ssd). It happens on both m.2 sockets. The drive is the 1TB SN550 (WD), brand new. No other drives were on the system when the nvme was installed. Does anyone know what is going on ? Specs: (I know the system is not balanced, getting stuff as I go) X570 E Gaming ; R5 3600 , Vengeance RGB Pro 4x8GB 3600MHz C16 ; Asus Dual RX580 4GB

Soo, I would like to know what type of m.2 my MSI Z370A PRO supports, if its NVME or standard. My mobo says that its m.2 slot is a Turbo M.2 Slot and I've seen in a different thread about turbo m.2 that it is just a different way of saying M.2 NVME... Soo, what does it support? Standard M.2 or NVME?

So my mom got a new macbook and i was just going to use her old one, except its kinda slow, I'm assuming because of performance degradation of the hard drive that has been in it for several years. So basically want to get a newer M.2 SSD and replace the old one, and also install windows on it instead. However at the time it looks like apple doesn't like third party SSD's so I wouldn't be able use bootcamp to dual boot Windows and Mac OS, since I wouldn't be able to get into the Mac OS. I've never rally messed around with Windows licensing or really installing Windows, let alone on a mac. So would there be any way of doing this without actually having the Mac OS?

I am trying to update my bios on my MSI x370 gaming pro carbon, in an attempt to try and get my nvme to show up, but I cant get the M-Flash to detect the new bios file. The USB is detected and i made sure the usb is formatted to FAT32 but still nothing. The current bios on the board is E7A32AMS V2.BO and the bios I am trying to put on it is 7A32V1NU. I have been going about this for a couple hours now with 0 progress i would greatly appreciate any help.
